In her 2004 debut jazz CD, Deborah Latz takes ten jazz standards and weaves them into an odyssey of love - the story of a woman falling in love, out of love and moving Toward Love again. Assembling an outstanding group of musicians, including veteran drummer Jimmy Wormworth, Timo Elliston on piano, Ben Sher of Tudo Bem on guitar and Bob Bowen on bass, Deborah has created arrangements that move from haunting and ethereal to sharp and up-tempo. An Amazing Debut CD -- Go Toward Love Posthaste!.......2005-02-22

I have listened to this CD about 12 times now, and I've got to say that it just keeps getting better and better. Deborah Latz has so much humanness in her approach to the material -- a sense of joy and perspective that is unique and refreshing. Her phrasing perfectly captures/expresses her philosophy and spunk. Her combo is excellent as well -- great individual and ensemble playing. Did I mention how fun she is to listen to? The beauty and control of her voice? I would much prefer to listen to her than Jane Monheit, Diana Krall, Tierney Sutton, or Patricia Barber. Their approach does not make my heart smile, or my spirit soar. Deborah Latz's Toward Love is a truly remarkable debut album, expressing a rare authenticity and spirit. I can't recommend this CD highly enough, and I look forward to Latz's next endeavor. (By the way, the quality of the engineering and recording is excellent as well.)

Toward Love is a beautifully rendered album of songs about falling in and out of love from the sublime to the painful. Deborah Latz's vocal abilities are stunning and she attacks every song and turns in a fresh and delightful album. It wonderful to listen to the careful way she turns a phrase and makes every song her own. She feels every song from deep within her soul and will bring up your own memories of love. This is a fantastic album that should be required listening for anyone who loves music. Buy it for yourself and someone you love!
