Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

5 out of 5 stars a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

5 out of 5 stars Love It!!.......2007-06-14

I love this CD. It is perfect for bed time no matter what the age. Had the hardest time finding it other places. I have young family members who listened to this when they were babies and now I found it for my own children!

5 out of 5 stars A bond that will last forever.......2006-03-21

I remember receiving this CD from my sister when my first child was born. I would sit in the rocker with her and sing each song to her as she looked up in amazement. My favorite is "If I Didn't Have You to Wake Up To." My children, now 7 and 10, still occasionally ask me to sing a lullaby to them for fun. This song is always my first choice. Other than one song which feels a little bit intense, maybe even scary (my daughter would cry whenever it played, with tears running down her face), all the songs are pleasant, and fun to sing if you like singing. I have given it as gifts to several of my family and friends when they have their first child. It is a timeless piece. Great music, especially if you like female vocals! The variety of artists keeps it fresh...forever.

5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2005-02-24

We purchased this in summer of 2004 when our daughter was 1 1/2.
We, the parents, fell in love with it right away. Such a refreshing change, and all new songs to us. Now our little girl is over two, and has to hear it before bed each night. Track two, Child of Mine, is our special song, and instantly brings calm and cuddles to an otherwise stressful time of day. I can't imagine a time in the future when I won't love this CD. I will likely take it to my retirement home -- everybody needs a little lullaby once in a while -- not just the kids.

5 out of 5 stars Treasure!.......2004-10-21

I received this CD as a gift 11 years ago when my daughter was born. She listened to it every night for the first five years of her life. It comforted her and soothed her to sleep! Today she pulls it out and remembers the times we laid together and sang the songs until she couldnt keep her eyes open anymore. It evokes wonderful memories for both of us. I would buy this CD again and again and would recommended it any mother! It's truly a treasure!

5 out of 5 stars preschool teacher.......2004-10-08

This is the best naptime cd I had ever heard. It is so beautiful and touching. The lyrics will make you cry and put the children right to sleep. I wish they would come out with another cd like this. Sometimes we forget that celebrities are real people with families. This is a nice reminder of that. This is a must have for any parent, child care worker or anyone who loves children.

5 out of 5 stars The Young Lions.......2007-03-16

The prelude to greatness... before the elements went on to glorious heights, there were already a tight, progressive, positive band, with two powerhouse vocalists. One thing that is not mentioned much when commentary is made about the best band of the 70s is that they celebrated their African roots without a second thought.

Tracks like Mighty Mighty, Drum Song, Caribou, along with the spiritual overtones of songs like devotion exuded not only an awareness on their part of who they were, but they celebrated it without regard. This progressiveness continued up into the 80s and after a brief hiatus, continued into the 90s and recently with the wonderful release 'Illumination'.

Their legacy needs to be preserved by our young and held up as an example of what great music should be modeled after. Now with all that said, this album/CD is a delight to listen to even today. Thank God these old gems were preserved! Real music has become a novelty today.
Like Mr. White says, this music is Eternal.

5 out of 5 stars Baddest Band in the Land.......2005-10-22

I was a Teenager when this Album was released on "Vinyl" (for those of you from the CD Age ask your Grandparents). Back then I loved every Song on the Album, and that love stands pat today as Earth, Wind & Fire's Music from those days Song just as Beautiful Today as it did then, and there'll never be another Band like them. I have every E.W.F. Album made in the 70"s on CD now. Some of the best purchases I ever made.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT WE HAVE IS A BRAND NEW SOUND!.......2004-09-08

Whoa! Even with the enlightening evolution of EW&F's fourth release, Head To The Sky, nobody could have seen this coming. This album is nothing short of bold and brilliant. It is an all-out assault on several musical genres, as well as the full emergence of a newly refined and crystalized EW&F sound.

"Mighty Mighty" is an eyebrow-raising funk experience in under 3 minutes, that boldly uplifts those of African descent, completes with fierce guitar licks, a snaky bassline, and confident vocals that all overflow with attitude. I hope that soundproof booth wasn't made of glass, because Phillip Bailey certainly would have shattered it. Other immediate standouts are the arm-waving anthem "Devotion", the much too funky "Kalimba Story" and the wordless "Drum Song" and "Caribou". You must love "Tee Nine Chee Bit" for it's lowdown Ohio Players-like feel. An album like this could have very easily taken a wrong turn, but the fact is that this one doesn't. It is random perfection. The only possible thing you could criticize is the somewhat lazy sounding vocals on "Caribou", and still this is overshadowed by the fact that you can't get this sound anywhere else.

This album crosses pop, funk, gospel, jazz, R&B and African music barriers full-stride without missing a step. It's also saturated with musical, vocal, spiritual and commercial prowess without being preachy. How can you even call yourself an Earth, Wind & Fire fan without owning this musical goldmine???!!! Even the bonus tracks are really bonus. Get it while the gettin' is good, my mellow.

5 out of 5 stars It sounds like they had fun recording this one!.......2003-10-31

Of course Earth Wind and Fire have tons of hits, spanning a couple decades, but the gems on this release are the non-single tracks. While both hits "Mighty Mighty" and "Devotion" are great, this CD is simply full of music from beginning to end that is funky, soulful, and fun. The title track "Open Our Eyes" is a wonderful gospel song, and the minor hit "Feeling Blue" is a great ballad which you may remember, but the highlights are the added tracks including the funky "Fair But So Uncool" and the gospel inspired soul in "Ain't No Harm to Moan". You will love the improvised jamming in "Drum Song" and the African inspired "Kalimba Story".

This is a wonderful collection of music and you can tell they had a lot of fun recording it. The music sounds fresh and alive, which is remarkable considering it has been nearly 30 years since it was recorded. A great and underrated release from one of the most talented recording groups of all time.

5 out of 5 stars The Price Club.......2005-04-28

"I am here," said Leontyne Price when interviewed as she opened the new Metropolitan Opera with Samuel Barber's underrated ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, "and you will know that I am the best and will hear me. The color of my skin or the kink of my hair or the spread of my mouth has nothing to do with what you are listening to." Back in the 1960s Price was one of the greatest divas in all of opera, and it wasn't just her voice but her magnificent stage presence, combined with her social activism. All of the above come into play in this collection of secular songs and ditties, some of them traditional plantation chanties and others, art songs and a scattering of pop music. And some of them, like Gershwin's "Summertime," cross the ever-permeable boundaries between Broadway and classical. These recordings were made at different times in Price's career, and her voice, while always angelic, has different shadings and reaches a different range of timbre in each separate recording date, but there is no question that, as time goes by, she is able to impart a richness of life experience noticeably absent from some of her earlier work.

"Ave Maria" sounds heavenly no matter which way you slice it, and as for "I Wonder As I Wander," it brings tears to your eyes. If you have a heart that's beating you will be moved by this rendition. "Ein feste Burg" is pretty strong, but Price seems more comfortable with the traditional spirituals, though perhaps it is the slightly off-kilter sounds of the Ambrosian Singers (what a name) who back her up on many of these tracks, that detract slightly from the experience. Compare "Lead Kindly Light" for a clear sense of what constitutes authority vs. what is a wee bit overproduced. If you had this compilation, and perhaps one of Leontyne Price's Christmas albums, you could attain nirvana any time you wanted to, just flip a switch and close your eyes, let her lift you up on wings of song.

    5 out of 5 stars A living legend.......2005-03-10

Leontyne Price (still alive) and already passing into immortality amongst vocal artists, both classical and popular. Leontyne Price stands at the pinnacle of her classical art, but those who only know her work in La Forza del destino or the Verdi Requiem are in for a heart rending treat with this album where Leontyne Price goes home to her roots in Mississippi and gives an unabashed account of the classic spirituals she sang as a young woman. Like John Mc Cormacks rendering of Irish songs there is a personal longing and devotion expressed here that reveals a side of the artist not known in the bulk of their "classical" repetoire. A sense of going home like Citizen Kane's rosebud, or as Dorothy Gale observes at the end of the Wizard of Oz "everything I could ever have wanted was right in my own backyard "

1 out of 5 stars not your daddy's old timey spiritual.......2004-06-23

Agreed this is a good cd for a beautiful voice, but this is not, repeat not, for someone who wants to hear that old-timey religious fervor that you think of when you've been to a Black Baptist hand-clapping, standing, swaying, and singing service.

5 out of 5 stars Immaculate Vocals of Leontyne Price.......2003-12-31

IMMACULATE, SUPERB vocal range and style! There's no other words that can complement Miss Leontyne Price's vocal arrangements. Miss Price's voice is strong, and shrills very nicely to the instruments played on many songs listed on this double CD which is a joy to treasure; every song listed are songs I was raised to hearing and singing. Miss Price is the reason why many of these songs remain in popularity and presently used. Miss Leontyne Price has been incredible in many of her past performances. This is my fourth CD of Miss Price and I am glad to own this particular CD forever and ever. Many thanks to the executors who found this remarkable album and upgraded it to a CD format! **Angi**

4 out of 5 stars Great Gospel Stuff.......2001-04-12

This is a great CD. The only problem I have with it is that on some of the selections there is a boy's choir screaming in the background, and this takes away (a bit) from her performance. That said, her best selections are those that are either unaccompanied or those where her voice is not buried. Songs that strike me are - His Name So Sweet, He's Got The Whole World, Were You There, I Wonder as I Wander, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and my all time favourite Summertime. Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars Rock n' roll with rocking soul.......2006-01-12

The BMG 2004 reissue of "Private Eyes" brings out the sharpness in what is already one of Hall and Oates' most important albums. There's not a clunker in any of the 11 original songs and two remixes, from the title track to the 12-inch version of "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)."

The sound reproduction, cleaner than either the original RCA CD or 1996 BMG reissue, also lets listeners hear how the duo tried to balance technology and sound effects with live instrumentation, never letting one take over the other. Even when the song is almost all computer and synth -- "I Can't Go For That" -- it's done with such balance that it still sounds perfect a quarter century later. You can hear Daryl and John coming into their own as songwriters and producers.

The reissue also gives the band's fans a chance to hear lost gems sounding better than ever -- especially "Looking For a Good Sign" and "Unguarded Minute." They can also debate the merits of the original "Your Imagination" version vs. its 12-inch remix. While the pounding, heavily-electronic remix was the basis for the single and MTV versions of the song, the album mix (with its acoustic drums and cymbals) wins out on sheer quality.

Also dig Ken Sharp's liner notes, which give listeners an interesting window into the duo's working dynamic, especially from Neil Kernon, their co-producer here and on "H2O."

It's hard to improve on a classic, but BMG does so here.

3 out of 5 stars Been wondering about the U.S. remasters vs. the expensive Japanese K2 RM's?.......2005-08-06

Well, here's your answer: The Japanese win. Hands down. Big time.

To start off, I compared the album tracks of the 2004 U.S. remastered versions of VOICES, H20 & BIG BAM BOOM against the limited edition, Japanese, K2 remastered, album mini-LP-sleeve replication versions of the same titles. Then I compared the bonus track remixes on each U.S. remaster to their counterparts on the Japanese-only 12-INCH COLLECTION, VOLUMES 1 & 2.

The comparisons were performed using two Sony XA7 decks run via identical Acoustic Zen coax cables to a Camelot Uther DAC. Those of you who know your gear know that this is about as good as it gets under $25,000.

I cannot attest if the difference between the two remastering results are a result of:

1.) The K2 process being more robust than whatever mastering equipment was used (at Sony Studios in NYC) for the U.S. versions
2.) Whether the Japanese utilized source material closer to the original masters than the U.S. versions, or
3.) If the Japanese engineering was just better, or they took more time & care, than their U.S. counterparts.

Whatever the case may be, the K2 albums, and the two Japanese remix Collections, blow the U.S. versions out of the building. There is more of everything: More gain, bigger soundstage, more definition and, oh yeah, baby, more bottom end. The remixes on the U.S. versions are adequate; on the Japanese COLLECTION CD's, they THUNDER.

The three U.S. titles have nine additional remix tracks. All of these tracks appear on the two Japanese COLLECTION titles. All of the sonic accolades I attributed to the individual K2 album remasters apply to these two CDs also.

The bottom line? If you're a fan of the band, you have the cash and some above-average gear, the K2's and the dual-remix CD's are the ticket. While the entire RCA H&O catalog is available on the limited edition K2's (with the nice mini-LP sleeves), there would be some serious moolah required to acquire the full set. I consider the 3 titles mentioned here to be their best overall work from that period, so I opted for just those.

I'm currently piling thru all of the "Hits" packages from recent years to determine which has the best audio. It will be interesting to run the 2004 "Ultimate" set against the new "Essential" package.

5 out of 5 stars Best Album from the Dynamic Duo!.......2004-08-19

This album just pips Voices to the top spot of my fav Hall & Oates' albums. Why? It sounds more consistent overall although Voices has some superior individual songs.

Side One of the original LP (till Did It In A Minute) consists of the stronger hit material while Side Two has the more experimental tunes. Still, the quality never drops and in Unguarded Minute and Your Imagination, the duo has a couple of excellent overlooked gems. The original album when it first came out challenged me to accept a different Hall & Oates, notably in I Can't Go For That, with its weird mix of soul, rock and Indian vocal stylings (No-oh-oh)! But it grew on me and has now become my favourite Hall & Oates song of all time!

The bonus tracks on this CD are interesting to listen to (altho' not essential) and together with the liner notes and remastered sound, makes this purchase a no-brainer. Now if only BMG would consider releasing Rock 'N Soul Part 1 with the extended versions of Say It Isn't So and Adult Education!

5 out of 5 stars Only For Private Ears..........2004-07-24

People over the world, alle teenagers over the world; DON'T LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM ... IF ... you're a today's music fan and love all the trash that's coming to you via radio and tv stations. Go on with your life and stay away from this one because you'll never understand this album.
Ik vividly can remember the day I heard I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) for the first time. Good soul music and it was from WHITE guys. Private Eyes sounds like Kiss On My List part 2 and that's a good thing. This album was everything the world expected to be after Voices (1980 album from Hall & Oates). All the songs are very good and uplifting the album to a very clear state. The songs are crisply remastered and sound better than the first CD release. My personal favourites; Did It In A Minute, Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) and Looking For A Good Sign. But the rest of the songs are following directly. What a top class album. Highly recommendend for music fans.

    5 out of 5 stars A classic remastered--and it's about time!.......2004-05-23

This album is one of H&O's best, with smooth Motown harmonies and lots of bracing G.E. Smith guitar licks. The (long-overdue) remastering job makes the sound sparkle. Though the bonus tracks (12" remixes) are forgettable and dispensible, "Private Eyes" is the duo's best album.

    Album Description

This newly remastered reissue marks a welcome return to the catalog of the first volume of the classic 4-CD collection that was formerly available on the CRI label. The works recorded on this disc span the first six years of what Harry Partch (1901-1974), slightly tongue-in-cheek, called the "third period" of his creative life. They show him moving away from the obsession with "the intrinsic music of spoken words" that had characterized his earlier output (the vocal works of 1930-33 and 1941-45) and towards an instrumental idiom, predominantly percussive in nature. This path was to take him through the "music-dance drama" King Oedipus (1951)—-the culmination of his "spoken word" manner—to the "dance satire" The Bewitched (1954-55), in which his new percussive idiom manifests itself. The three works on this disc show Partch before, during, and after this period of transition. In their quiet, forlorn way, the Eleven Intrusions are among the most compelling and beautiful of Partch's works. The individual pieces were composed at various times between August 1949 and December 1950, and only later gathered together as a cycle. Nonetheless they form a unified whole, with a nucleus of eight songs framed by two instrumental preludes and an essentially instrumental postlude. Although foreshadowed by the dance sequences of King Oedipus, the Plectra and Percussion Dances (1952) are the first of Partch's major works to be wholly instrumental in conception. They stand in relation to Oedipus as a satyr play in relation to a Greek tragedy—hence the work's subtitle, "Satyr-Play Music for Dance Theater." He felt that after the prolonged period of composition and production of Oedipus it was "almost a necessity to give vent to feelings and ideas, whims and caprices, even nonsense, that seem to have no place in tragedy." The final work on this disc is Ulysses at the Edge, written at Partch's studio at Gate 5 in July 1955. Ulysses, which Partch describes as a "minor adventure in rhythm," is unique among his mature compositions in that, in its original form, it did not call for any of his own instruments. The version recorded here, for alto and baritone saxophones, Diamond Marimba, Boo, Cloud-Chamber Bowls, and speaking voice, is considered the third version of the piece.

4 out of 5 stars Now it's possible to get your Partch all in a row.......2006-02-20

Harry Partch is the quintissential mad genius of music--his image of music that was non-Eurocentric led to him devising his own tonal scale based on ancient Greek and Asian methods and then creating his own instruments. This series release of Partch music lets one organize his Partch tastes and get a real sense of his progress through time. This disc is superb for the Intrusions, ghostly little pieces that were my first introduction to this fine composer. I would also highly recommend volume 3, which has Barstow, one of my favorite Partch pieces.

Be prepared. This is classical music you have not been prepared for. If you're already a fan of Partch, aren't you glad SOMEONE is getting all his amazing stuff together in one tightly knit package?

For old-school soul music lovers, the cd release of their first two albums (yes, there was a later album release also), was a long time coming! To once again hear "Stay Together Young Lovers", "Dry Your Eyes", "When You're Gone", etc., for the first time at digital quality level, ignites vivid memories of "red-light" basement "Par(ties)" so prevalent during the day. Make no mistake, the two late 60s Philly albums, along with a number of 45s released during that era (that although didn't get tons of airplay during the time, still command collector's prices) insured the group their place in late 60s East Coast soul legacy! These cds are availible, whereas the quest for the lps, good luck! Plenty of excellent songs on both cds. Philly classics! If they're not already in one's old-school soul music collection, how not? If/when, a Philadelphia area "Music Hall Of Fame"? Charter members! Both cds, 5 stars!

4 out of 5 stars Knowing It From A Summer's Day, Many Years Ago.......2004-05-28

*Dry Your Eyes*, the 1967 debut album from Philadelphia's Brenda & The Tabulations, is not the most stylistically innovative music of that brief period where the difficulties inherent in being the world's kindly manager appeared to be solving themselves and difficulties intrinsic to the US often evaporated instantaneously in a nimbus of "modernist" sentiment -- this is the sound of the period before the Detroit and Newark riots scarred civic sentiment, but in my estimation it is something like the distillation of the young working woman's attitudes towards life in the urban United States. Brenda Payton encapsulates the "ethos" of that era's clerk, teller, cashier or operator in love with the possibilities of the city: but if the romance seems a little expansive to the contemporary ear, perhaps it wasn't entirely a good idea to not heed such sentiments as these. A truly enduring cultural artifact.

    5 out of 5 stars A true hidden treasure.......2006-08-20

I bought this when i was a kid on vinyl, lost it,andthen it took years for it to finally come out on c.d. And let me tell you something guys: Have you ever had an album that you sung and new every word on every song on the album from start to finish? This is my album. From the first intro to the last fade out Ms. Russell puts her soul int the music. She takes you there. Makes you feel her love, her need, her human emotion. This is an artists artist. I have always said that she has always been under recognized for her talents, This is her best album. I know. I have all of them. It was just poorly marketed.

5 out of 5 stars One of her most obscure but gorgeous albums ........2006-02-17

As was the case with most of Brenda's other wonderful recordings, this superb album went nowhere when first released. Unfortunately, Brenda Russell is simply much too talented and sophisticated a singer/songwriter to compromise her music for the mainstream and as such has never gotten the recognition and respect due her. This remains one of her best but most underrated CDs--if you appreciate good, soul-stirring music don't miss out on this one.

5 out of 5 stars AT LONG LAST !.......2003-12-18

Oh my... I recall four years of searching Paris high and low for the vinyl LP of this, and the great listening experience after finally owning it (it cost me more way back then than the CD costs now, but, heck! was it worth the wait!)

Now you don't have to go to such lengths because someone had the excellent idea of issuing it on CD! (so far, only a short-lived Japanese CD had existed, circa 1990).

What can I say about Brenda Russell? She's AWESOME! You may not immediately appreciate her raspy voice and undermined singing, but she's most certainly one of the most gifted songwriters ever this side of World War II! And once you actually get into the depth of her lyrics and the unique atmosphere of her songs, you WILL be moved by her singing.

"Two Eyes" was a fantastic album, and sadly, like the rest of her records, was mostly ignored by the public. Could it be that Brenda is destined to forever be a "musician's musician"? I'd say she's just too talented to ever compromise with the musical trends and goes her own, brilliant way, unashamedly. So be it!

If you like the fusion of pop and jazz, Al Jarreau, Michael McDonald, Michael Franks and other similar artists, treat yourself to this CD, you won't regret it! And if ever you can get hold of a second-hand copy of "Soul Talkin'", don't miss it either... It was her best album EVER !

Her current album, "Paris Rain", is energizing and delightful; her 1979 self-titled debut already displayed amazing songwriting abilities; her rendition of Sting's "Fragile" on Kirk Whalum's superlative jazz album "Cache" is another masterpiece, and my favorite version of the song; and for the icing on the cake, dig the cool, cool version of her classic "Get Here" as featured in Dave Koz's "Dave Koz & Friends" Christmas album.

Brenda, you're fantastic. Keep it up!
