Customer Reviews:
The Bottom Line..........2007-04-01
All the finest ingredients of rock, country, blues, and jazz blended into a down-home gumbo as only The (original) Marshall Tucker Band could do it! The remastered series sounds superb audibly, and the packaging is beautifully restored- complete with historic photos and interesting liner notes. The Marshall Tucker Band remastered recordings of the original band- "Self Titled" through "Tenth"- are well worth the investment.
Oldie but a Goodie.......2007-03-08
Just couldn't get the song "Heard It In A Love Song" out of my head so had to buy this.
The band excells in this album-my favorite is the flute player. I had the pleasure of hearing them live and they were rockin'.
Tell It To The Devil.......2006-10-14
This is such a great MTB album. They were a great band and this really highlights how good they were. Even though there are only 7 tracks (a bonus track not counted) they were all great. Not a very long album but most of their albums were like this so there is no difference. I like all the songs here. Fly Like An Eagle is one of my favorites. MTB rocks so go get this album.
MTB's Artistic Comeback Continues.......2005-04-19
The Marshall Tucker Band continue their artistic comeback (following the mediocre SEARCHIN' FOR A RAINBOW) with CAROLINA DREAMS. Most of the songs are great, and even with a few clunkers present, I would have no qualms about asking a pretty girl for a dance to this one, even if she wasn't part of the "in crowd." If you love the Allman Brothers Band, the Outlaws, or Lynyrd Skynyrd, you'll love this one.
Commercial peak; artistic valley.......2004-09-21
This appears to be such a great album, with its handsome cover and clever title. I bought the Marshall Tucker albums back in seventies on LP's and always thought that Caroline Dreams was one of the best, until I really listened to it. Carefully listening to this one, and comparing it to others, it is one of Marshall Tucker's weaker efforts.
Like most Marshall Tucker albums, the original album was fairly short at 37 minutes. This new release includes a bonus track, a 4 minute live version of Silverado, so this CD is 41 minutes long. When you have a CD that is that short, every track had better be great.
There are only two really great songs, Heard it in A Love Song and Never Trust a Stranger. Desert Skies and Fly Like an Eagle are merely just good songs. Tell It To the Devil and Life in a Song are only fair. The one long number, I Should Have Never Started Loving You, is repititious and just grates on too long. It would have been much better cut in half (and I love long songs).
It is good to see that the whole Marshall Tucker catalog is being remastered and re-issued. The first CD releases, the sound was flat. And then, they were completely unavailable for some time.
About a year or so ago, someone was selling all of Marshall Tucker's master tapes on ebay. They had the masters to all the studio recordings plus hundreds of hours of live material. But, they did not own the lisence to this material, so you couldn't produce to the material until you worked out a lisencing agreement.
The group's bassist, Tommy Caldwell, died in 1980. The group broke up in 1983, with the leader, Toy Caldwell, going off an doing a solo act for some time. He died in 1993. The lead singer, Doug Gray, created a whole new Marshall Tucker Band, that played country and gospel music. I did not like what I have heard from the new band.

Consumate Candian Brass.......2000-08-12
This is another great Canadian Brass retrospective. It is a varied and very listenable cross section of their recordings as of 1988. The selections extend from Bach to ragtime and Gershwin, and just about everything in between. Many of the selections are not usual brass fare, but are given the special, superb Canadian Brass treatment.
absolutely great.......2000-08-05
this is a great cd, theres no two ways about it. i got this as a gift from my mother(both of us being trumpet players, we love brass stuff) and wore out my first copy. the range of music is wonderful, from classical to jazz and even gershwin, it has it all. a great cd to read by. it inspired me to buy the sheet music( its as much fun to play as to listen to). a fantastic addition to any music cllection.

Customer Reviews:
Historic Ragtime.......2001-03-31
Charles Thompson was a contemporary of Jelly Roll Morton and James P. Johnson, and was one of the leading figues of the second generation of St. Louis ragtime pianists.
This album, made up of live recordings from the early 1960s, finds Thompson in reasonable form, playing some of his best known pieces plus a few standards. His powers had declined a little from his 1948-49 American Music recordings, but he was still able to play in an entertaining fashion. Many of the performances are rather short, but these are historic recordings by a little known but important figue in ragtime.
Delmark is to be commended for this release: let's hope they re-issue the rest of the Euphonic back catalogue. Anyone interested in ragtime and early jazz should consider buying this CD.

Album Description
A Classic Marshall Tucker Album Newly Remastered
The title Greetings From South Carolina is a bit of a misnomer, as it was really the end of an era for MTB. It was their final record for Warner Bros. and it also signaled the end of the original phase of the group, with Toy Caldwell and other founding members leaving the fold after its release. Greetings is the most country-influenced of all of MTB's albums, full of band-written tunes in both the wistful and the rollicking modes.
Customer Reviews:
A Solid Release.......2007-04-22
A very solid release- the last one with the classic line-up. This albums boasts a more country-flavored edge to it overall, but remains classic Tucker. Worth having in one's collection.
Country Music sounding.......2007-02-02
Not their best work. Vocals are way out front, and the tunes sound like your average country band. Last tune on CD resembles the old MT sound with Toy playing more solo guitar.

Album Description
The brand-new album Carolina Christmas is The Marshall Tucker Band's way of sharing the holiday spirit with their fans. Recorded in the band's hometown of Spartanburg, SC, it brings together MTB members past and present for a down-home mix of holiday standards and new originals.
More than a collection of familiar Yuletide tunes, Carolina Christmas taps into the classic Marshall Tucker sound with its blend of acoustic balladry, up-tempo R&B, country-rock and free-flowing jazz. It's a Christmas gift with a genuine South Carolina flavor that only MTB could create.
Customer Reviews:
Carolina Christmas Delivers Good Vibes.......2005-12-18
In the liner notes Doug states that MTB had started talking about doing a Christmas CD in the early 70s... I've wanted them to do one for years too. I'm sure Tuckerhads everywhere have! Now we all get our wish... and it was certainly worth the wait. I know Christmas will have an extra special glow this year.
Doug gets the festivities rolling with White Christmas, sung in a traditional style but after the last chorus the band kinks it into jammin' overdrive. Very cool! Christmas in Carolina is a joyful celebration - just what you'd expect from Chris. His music always seems to lift your spirit and this original is no different. David Muse plays sax and horns and takes it over the top.
Doug's daughter, Gabrielle, sings vocals on I'll Be Home for Christmas. We were first introduced to her on the Gospel CD when she duetted with her Pops on His Eye Is On the Sparrow. She sounded like a songbird then and I'm glad she was given the reins on a song all to herself. She is one angelic singer! Cousin Clay Cook plays a perfectly subtle acoustic guitar. Brushes offer a sultry edge to a song that would have sounded perfectly at home on the radio in the 40's. This young lady has a voice like the classic torch singers from that era. I'm not sure what she's been doing since Gospel but she needs to release a CD of her own. Her voice is pure ear candy!
The boys give their Tucker treatment to Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. I think Tommy would be proud. For some reason this song brought him to mind... Could be that Jerry plays the sax on this one... or it could be Stuart's lead guitar, which sounds a lot like Toy... or mybe it's Paul Hornsby's keyboards. Whatever the case, it sounds like vintage Tucker, circa Together Forever era...
Clay delivers a perky rendition of Let Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Our favorite sound engineer, Keith Glenn, plays bells and does a mighty fine job! A soulful version of Silent Night is delivered full force by Chris with an equally powerful sax solo from David Muse. Chris takes lead again on Snowfall in Georgia - and once again it sounds like classic Tucker, from Paul Hornsby's piano to the nimble guitar work of Stuart and Chris. This song goes down as easy as warm cider on a cold winter's day.
My Christmas in Custody is a riot! BB's sense of humor shines on this one. Chris' harmonica and David's horns are the prefect accent. The jubilation rolls on with Jingle Bells. Family and friends all join in and it's obvious everyone is having fun. Doug takes a bluesy turn on Merry Christmas Baby and does it only the way he can... and Stuart once again is smokin' on the fret board. That new guitar has him sounding better then ever! And man, Paul Hornsby... so awesome to have on board for this ride!
And if something feels right about Leave the Christmas Lights On perhaps it's because it's a George McCorkle original. Doug and Chris sing it as a duet and they compliment each other perfectly. Like the season itself, this song brings warmth to the soul.
A spoken rendition of Twas the Night Before Christmas finishes the CD. Steve Keeter of Sevenmoore plays backing keyboards. It's a perfect bookend to this Carolina Christmas.
There's so many great Christmas songs I'd love to hear from MTB. For me, this is like that one Christmas gift you get to open on Chritmas Eve... Awesome, but you can't wait for more!
WOW! CHRISTMAS IN CAROLINA! FANTASTIC MTB.......2005-12-03
This is now my favorite Christmas cd. 1, If you dig the MTB? This is just great. 2, If you like the horn & flute playing of Tucker? You are going to love this. Doug Gray is on top of his game. Chris Hicks is superb. (I love ya Chris! Loved your stuff with the Outlaws as well, Stay right where you are) Doug's Daughter Gabrielle sings lead on "I'll be home for Christmas" She sings like an angel. Clay is back lending a hand. B.B. does a good little tune. One of the best tunes is a duet by Doug & Chris titled "Leave the Christmas lights on" What makes this tune special????? The co-writer of this song is Mr. George McCorkle! George even plays guitar on the track! I have Skynyrd's Christmas cd. I have 38 Specials Christmas cd. They can't even come close too this Marshall Tucker Carolina Christmas!! Buy this quick, Christmas is close! I could listen to this MTB cd in July. It's that GOOD! Happy Holidays to everyone.
