5 out of 5 stars Simba's Pride Sountrack Sounds Great.......2007-01-19

This CD is the soundtrack of one of the best Disney Sequels to date. Fans of the movie will love to listen to the familiar songs repeatedly. The songs on this cd are entertaining and heartwarming and set to beautiful music.

4 out of 5 stars Mmm..........2006-01-05

I think all the songs in this soundtrack are worth listening to, but this soundtrack is not so good as "Return to Pride Rock". Because many good songs were not in this soundtrack, such as "Song For the Children" "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "I Want to See the Moon". Well, I don't like this soundtrack, but I appreciate the cover of this soundtrack was cute. So I rate it 4 stars! ^_^

4 out of 5 stars No King size ensemble, but the Lion's of Pride Rock deliver.......2005-10-22

This is a Soundtrack that is very well assembled. From the opening number, "He Lives in You", until the final number, "Love Will Find A Way".
The opening track would rival the original Lion King's opener in "Circle of Life". It is very well constructed and gives you shivers of how well it is sung.
On a high from the first track, the soundtrack only gets better with the utterly brilliant "We Are One." A perfectly crafted pop/ballad tune that has significant meaning in the movie. Simba and Nala sing it in a duet and their voices blend perfectly together in the sombre backing music. FANTASTIC!!! But, after 2 songs, you think can this album get any better? The answer is yes, yes it can get alot better, and i is about to.
Track 3 delivers the soundtracks finest moment in Rafiki's number, "Upendi". This is a fun, well lyriced song with a party/love feel to it. Upendi means love, and that's what the song is about. There is a Jamaican feel to it, which makes it my personal favourite on the album. Absolutely brilliant!!!!
Track 4 "One Of Us" is sung in the movie when Simba banishes Kovu from Pride Rock. It is a song about shame, and is sung by many people who have one or two lines each. The voices blend perfectly together above a schitzophrenic sounding background music. This is great to, but not as good as the first 3. It is however, worthy of its place on the soundtrack.
"My Lullaby" is the only villian song in the movie and obviously on the album. It is an unusual sounding song, with Kira's awkward voice overshadowing an ordinary sounding background music. There is no real chorus and the song itself, feels scattered. This song is my least favourite on the album.
"Love Will Find Away" is track number 6, and is the final original song on the album. It is a ballad about love, with Nala and Kovu's voices blending well above a soft, sweet backing. The chorus and indeed the song, is a traditional ballad that sounds sweet. It is a good track.
The other 2 tracks (Track 7 & 8) round off the album. They are covers of "We Are One" and "Love Will Find Away", however, they have nothing on the originals, sung by the cast. they give a different aspect to the originals though, and they don't sound too bad. These two round off a terrific album.

However, there is a criticism. The album only contains 8 tracks, and even then, the final 2 tracks are tacked on the end as covers of 2 songs already included on the album. This is disappointing, surely they could have included another 1 or 2 songs not included in the movie, or perhaps include instrumental tracks. This is my only criticism, which I consider is a big one, which is why I'm giving it a 4.

4 out of 5 stars Somewhat Lacking, But A few Songs Make It Happen.......2005-07-28

The Score to 1998's Lion King DTV Somewhat unecessary sequel is, surprisingly, not that bad. The opening number "He Lives in You", borrowed from the stage show, certainly not a rousing showstopper ala the "Circle of Life", may be only suffecient enough, but it's made up for in such songs as "Upendi", a touching duet between farther and daughter harking back to the post Elephant Graveyard exchange between Mufasa and a young Simba in the original. "One of Us" is an important song in advancing the plot of the film, but rarely anything else, while "Love Will Find A Way" is somewhat of an improvement on the Classic, yet fairly undistinguished "Can You Fell The Love Tonight". The latter however, sounded much prettier! It's "My Lullaby" however, a delicious "Villans Planning Song", that makes the score all the more worthwhile. Just as "Be Prepared" did in the original, "Lullaby" does for SP, offering us a purely Evil song, with witty, clever, even daring, lyrics that can't help but put a smile on your face. What other childrens musical carries such lyrics as "The Sound of Simba's Dying Gasp/ His Daughter squealing In My Grasp/ His Lioness' Mournfull Cry/ That's My Lullaby". Great Stuff.

On the whole, somewhat lacking, but a few songs make it happen!

To answer your question: no, there's no "Hakuna Matata" here. (Did you really expect one to accompany this straight-to-video sequel?) But that's alright. Ladysmith Black Mambozo (on two tracks), Angelique Kidjo (who contributes the album's best original song, "We Are One"), and a duet between Kenny Lattimore and Heather Headley account for the starpower here, and all are strong. But the real essence of this collection is the African-flavored pop of tracks like "I Want to See the Moon," on which both your children and yourself might be introduced to some great new sounds. (There's a great, if slower than you'll be accustomed to, version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," too.) As both a soundtrack and an introduction to an entire sound, Simba's Favorites is a success. --Randy Silver

4 out of 5 stars One of my favourite soundtrack, but why there was no score of the movie?.......2006-03-31

When I watched the movie, I found that the music in it was very enchanted, every song in this movie was so fit for every plot, especially the songs "We Are One" "One of Us" and "Love Will Find A Way". There're also some beautiful songs which weren't from the movie, they felt like African music. I love "Song for the Children" and "She Believes in You". The scores of the movie were wonderful too, especilly which came up when Kovu and Kiara escaped from the river full of crocodiles. But I was very, very, very pity that there was no score in this soundtrack! Why? The soundtrack of "Bambi-2" was like this, only a little scores in it! Can Disney do better in the soundtracks?

5 out of 5 stars Lion King 2 Rocks! I now found the cd!!!!.......2004-03-13

I've never been much of a fan of the Lion King until I saw it on Broadway. Ever since then I watch the movies all the time. It is my Favourite movie and I really love it. I've been looking for this cd since October 2004. So imagine when I found it here. I was in tears!!! I have:
original #1
LK 1 1/2
#1 special edition
Orig. 1997 Broadway
I'll have to buy this one
Lion King is the best EVER! My fave songs on this cd are We are One and He lives in you. I have about 5-? fave songs in all from LK!!

5 out of 5 stars So moving and so cool!.......2004-01-29

I LOVE the songs from Simba's Pride! Even though I don't own the CD, I love the songs. My favourite one has got to be We Are One. I love it. it is really moving. I made up my own version of it! when I was writing a fanfiction, with new characters, the mother, Sarsha, was explaining to her son, named after the great king Mohatu that he doesn't have to change the way he is to be king, he can be himself. this is how it goes.

As You go through life
You'll see
There is so much
That we don't understand
And the only thinng we know
Is things don't always go
The way we planned

But you'll see everday
That we'll never turn away
When it seems all your dreams come undone
We wil stand by your side filled with hope and filled with pride
We are one

Can I still just be me
Even though I'm the king
Do I have to change?
Do I have to change my ways
What would my friends say
Would I still be the same?

You can still just be you
WE are one just us two
You don't have to change a thing
The best of kings stay how they are
But deep inside your heart
You will find when you see
We are one

We are one you and I
We are like the earth an dsky
One family under the sun
All the wisdom you lead
All the corage that you need
You will find when you see
We are one

like it? I didn't at first. but now i do. I love the lion king movies so much it still makes me cry when i watch it... and the thing that makes me like them so much are the songs, but fave will always be We are One, nobody can ever meak a better song then that. never.

5 out of 5 stars A CD For Children And Adults Of All Ages!.......2000-03-01

A while back my friend told me about this CD. I wasn't too intrested because I don't like listening to most childrens tapes unless I'm going to enjoy listening to them on long rides in the car. She popped her tape in and and I absolutely LOVED the songs! They are intended for children but I've found adults love to listen to them too! The songs don't have a fast beat to them nor a slow beat pretty much in-between. Definitely a road trip winner! BUY IT! You won't regret it! :)

4 out of 5 stars I am a HUGE Simba's Pride fan and this soundtrack ROCKS!.......1999-07-26

Really cool songs, although "My Lullaby" and "One of Us" could've used more work. I LOVE "Love Will Find A Way" and "We Are One"! Liz Callaway has such a great voice! I agree with the person who said they wished "Warthog Rhapsody" was on this CD. (They called it "Warthog Philosophy" but it's really called "Warthog Rhapsody".) Great CD, you'll love it! Go and buy it right now!

Album Description

It's rare that you get to sing the songs of Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Rogers and Hart, Jimmy Van Heusen and all the other great writers on this album without walking away feeling totally fulfilled - that's just how I feel. With arrangements by the great Sammy Nestico and with the wonderful musician we have on this album it just doesn't get much better than that. Singing music that was born and bred in America gives us all a great insight into a musical legacy that will carry on forever. I feel very honored to have had a small part in it. This album is dedicated in loving memory to my friend and mentor, Sammy Cahn.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD You May Not Have Heard Of.......2005-10-03

This is a find. Big band sound, great voice, superb renditions and equally superb arrangements. Treat yourself to Mr. Stallone's upbeat, wonderful treatments on favorites such as Day In Day Out, I Wish I Was In Love Again and more. This CD should be a best seller and I became aware of it be reading reviews on Amazon.

Treat yourself to a wail of of a CD. It will get your mojo going.

5 out of 5 stars Frank Stallone is no ..."Sly".......2005-09-01

Frank Stallone has taken some old standards and given them a new and graceful touch. Doe's he "mimic" a little of "Frank"... or Bobby "D" ... of course.... and what singer of any quality hasn't. But Frank does do something special. I don't know where he has been over the years.. or where he picked up his training, but he has a most pleasant voice and he treats the lyrics the way the composer intended them to be. I don't know if his "big brother" Sly had anything to do with his orchestrations or promotion but even if he did, it was a venture worth taking. It is sad that one with such talent has not had the exposure he deserves. Where has he been in recent years? Why hasn't the music world been privy to his talent on a larger scale! He deserves far more recognition than what has been available.
Keep on singin' Frank....Your audience will grow until you are more appreciated... and then you will have "Arrived"
Good luck Frank Stallone.... you deserve the very best.

5 out of 5 stars This swings baby!.......2005-01-30

I wrote produced and created a Modern Swing/Standards radio show which was syndicated nationally. I know the players, I will submit to you that this is one of the best examples of excellent singing, arrangements, and song selection I've seen. Anyone who claims that Stallone is any less than a highly talented singer, doesn't know a damn thing, some may call themselves jazz fans, but they wouldn't know jazz if it hit them in the butt. For the idiot who claims Frank is jumping on a fad. LISTEN UP. This album was recorded in 1990, and recently re-released. In fact my CD is titled "Day in Day Out". As the other gentlemen so well stated, there are some of you who likely have a preconceived notion or predjudice due to the name Stallone. Shut up already, if Frankie Laine, Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra, and Billy Eckstine had great things to say about Stallone's singing, who needs your take?

5 out of 5 stars Love, Love, LOVED it!.......2004-09-09

I am a musician in a band that plays vocal jazz. I buy and own thousands of CDs of vocalists singing songs from the pool of songs often called the Great American Songbook. Often I just buy a CD to hear different versions of the classics and to get ideas of "new" songs for us to perform. I was BLOWN away by this CD. What I find amazing is some of the reviews that did not like the vocals. I think they were fantastic! His voice, phrasing, attitude and style all won me over. This IS my favorite male vocalist right now. If you want an artist who sings today the way it was done "yesterday"... Frank is the man.

5 out of 5 stars A great recording of the standards - and a "sleeper" of 2003.......2003-12-28

Had I not read a brief, yet positive, review of "In Love In Vain" in one of the Seattle papers earlier this year, I daresay I would never have known about this release, much less have even considered buying it. Fortunately, I did find out about it, and was pleasantly surprised by what I heard.

I'm sure that I am not in the age group where the music industry markets the standards as sung by Sinatra, Martin, et al. Or, this classic music is recorded by a "flavor of the month" pop idol and then marketed to my age group. That said, I do listen to this genre quite a bit, and so, I was eager to hear Mr. Stallone's interpretations would sound. From the first track, I was instantly hooked.

Mr. Stallone presents each of these songs the way they were intended to be sung when they were originally written. His vocals are solid and evoke all of power and energy of these songs. "One For My Baby" is my personal favorite on this CD; it is a solid, heart-tugging ballad, and Mr. Stallone's vocals surely do emphasize the emotion at the core of this song. With the combination of the outstanding arrangements by the Sammy Nestico Orchestra, he truly transports the listener back to the era of smoky showrooms, cocktails, and big band sound.

One of the mistakes that musicians make when re-recording these classics - or covering any other great song, for that matter - is to over-sing or adding those annoying vocal flourishes. I guess it is meant to "update" the sound, or make it the musician's own. Mr. Stallone doesn't do that here. One gets the sense that he does respect these songs and is not under any illusions that he needs to modernize them.

Obviously, "In Love In Vain" would draw comparisons to the two "Great American Songbook" CD's released by Rod Stewart this year. Having been one who has actually listened to all three of these discs, I can safely state that Mr. Stallone created a far better CD that easily outpaces the combined Rod Stewart efforts. In part, this statement is based on my belief that Mr. Stewart does not have the voice that translates well to these discs. Plus, the overproduction, slick packaging, and questionable duets of the Stewart discs make these standards too "sugary" and otherwise of inferior quality. By staying true to the original arrangements and minimal production, Mr. Stallone could easily make a case as the only one to carry this music to future generations. The endorsement from the great Tony Bennett only solidifies this claim.

Mr. Stallone unfairly takes a lot of flak from critics who accuse him of riding Sylvester's coattails. There is no question that Frank Stallone is an accomplished musician, and perhaps with "In Love In Vain", I think that he has finally found a niche where he can break out from the shadows and have a great deal of success. This is one of the great "sleeper" CD's of the year, and deserves to be heard by music fans of all ages and tastes. I hope that Mr. Stallone can collaborate with the Sammy Nestico Orchestra again and release another album of these great standards sometime soon.

      5 out of 5 stars He's so smooth he's almost not singing..........2004-05-09

That's how one of my friends summed up the wonderful, butter-smooth voice of T. B. Ferster, the lead singer of the Atlanta-based Donkey. Donkey was known early on as a lounge band, and this is their first album, from that period, which includes a trombone and a saxophone (as well as drums and guitar) in the five man line-up, and gives the band a rather unique sound. As fans all over the South know, Donkey is at their best performing live, and on Slick Night Out, a live album recorded at Atlanta's The Point, they're truly in their element.

There's not a bad song on this album, but some of the stand outs are Sweet Vermouth ("There she is, the one that broke me down ... and here we stand, separated by three words / three words like 'I love you.'"), Baby Mae ("Come on and touch my secret space / yeah, what about that secret spot / that spot's so hot it could start a lot in this smoky room..."), It Was Forever ("It was forever, even though I wasn't sure / I thought forever would be just like the brochure..."), Bottle on the Mantle ("I didn't go looking for a fight / I relaxed too hard last night / now I'm laying here / not again"), and Last Dance.

Donkey's songs all tell a story of one sort or another, and really draw you in. This is one of my favorite albums, and I've gotten a lot of my friends hooked too. The unique character of the songs, Ferster's magnificent voice, and the unique sound makes Donkey like no other band. I highly recommend this album!

4 out of 5 stars Unique retro swing.......2003-09-19

This is yet another retro swing band, but a special one. The big difference here is the lead singer's voice, which is very fluid, soulful, jazzy... just really good. This is a live album so you also get to hear him blab his hipster talk between songs. Not sure I understand what all the lyrics are about yet; sometimes the guy seems to be singing about a whole lot of stuff.

      But it's pretty decent.

      5 out of 5 stars 93 Million Miles, must have for a Refused/Tinc fan.......2003-09-27

Well what can you expect from Dennis and the Refused/Tinc group? This is a really good cd, it's music style is somewhere between Tinc and Refused. The lyrics are of course great, and the music is heavy and catchy.

5 out of 5 stars good cd, good lyrics.......2003-09-22
