About the Artist
Janine Alondres is a recording artist who focuses on smooth jazz and contemporary jazz standards. Ms. Alondres, who resides in New York City, was born and raised in San Francisco, California to parents from the island of Oahu in Hawaii. In November 2002, she released her full-length debut CD, "dreams do come true", receiving positive reviews and accolades: "I met Janine when she asked me to play harmonica on her CD, [sic] I only play on projects I believe in so I had a lot of questions...she sent me a rough copy of her record and [ I ] was floored by both her voice and the unique and refreshing approach to these timeless American Jazz Classics. Her interpretations and phrasing along with top notch arranging and orchestrating made this a project I am [was] proud to be part of. Kudos to Janine on a captivating debut." Ms. Alondres will embark upon a tour commencing in New York City during the fall of 2002 and continuing through the winter of 2003 in support of her debut CD. Her first four performances will be held at Danny's Skylight Room in New York City. Her debut performances coincides with the availability of the CD on Ms.Ms. Alondres will also promote her CD locally in a-typical venues, and will continue to perform at charity events throughout the Northeast, and eventually embark upon a tour to the West Coast and Hawaii.

Ms. Alondres' achievements have included performing at San Francisco's premier showroom, The Plush Room, former New York City venue, Eighty-Eight's, and Danny's Skylight Room in New York. She has been invited to sing the "Star Spangled Banner" at a number of professional sports venues for teams such as the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Lakers and the California Angels. Ms. Alondres has also performed at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York for a corporate event, and has been a special guest performer at various charity fundraisers.

Ms. Alondres studied Opera at California State University, Long Beach, where she became interested in jazz standards. While at Cal-State, she was a member of the University choir, which was under the direction of Frank Pooler who discovered The Carpenters. In 1992, Ms. Alondres came to New York to follow her musical dreams. She studied at the Eugene O'Neil Theatre Center in Waterford, Connecticut, where she had the privilege of studying with well-respected performers such as Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson and Anne Francine. Ms. Alondres is inspired by a number of female artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Schurr, Dionne Warwick, Lena Horne, Barbra Streisand, Ann Hampton Callaway, Diana Krall, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and Nancy Wilson.

Smooth As Silk!.......2003-04-08

This is an absolutely beautiful sounding CD. Janine Alondres has a magnificent voice, and you will be enthralled at every song. This music can calm you, relax you, and help you 'step away' from your hectic, busy day. Janine Alondres is truly a talent to be noticed. She is definitely up there with some of the great female talents, such as Barbra Streisand, Diana Krall, Diane Shurr. This CD goes great with a cool beverage, be it champagne, or sparkling water,with a slice of lime. And of course, together with a starlit night it is perfection. (But in NYC reality, I've put this CD on my walkman, and within just a few NYC busy/noisy blocks (streets), among the heavy traffic, I felt like I was in a peaceful oasis. You can't top that!

Jazz Fusion Guitar Virtuoso.......2003-03-03

Steve Gordon has put together a very solid album of primarily instrumental tracks that showcase both his technical virtuosity on the electric guitar and his amazing sense of melodic themes that he develops throughout this album. Displaying his versatility throughout, he builds songs using smooth jazz themes, yet brings an intensity more prevalent in rock, as he scales the dynamics of these songs up and down, almost as if making love to his guitar. From George Benson to Jeff Beck...he covers a lot of styles, sometimes in the context of a single song, yet it all fits together seamlessly. The final track, while somewhat out of character compared to the rest of the material, is a nice blues/rock song reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Track 4 (Visions Within) is a standout instrumental ballad. You won't be disappointed in this cd if you are jazz/fusion lover.
