Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars lee press on going down hill!!!.......2003-05-16

Their first album was fantastic, the second was good, and this one attains mediocrity.

This one is just not as fun as the previous two. In my mind, they have gone from one of the best bands out there to just another swing band. Except, of course, their obsession with death... And sometimes it gets a little too much. The song "dark side" is one such example. I think Lee has been reading a little too much of Edgar Allen Poe or something like that!

There are a few good songs, however. Like their remake of "Ghostriders in the Sky"!

4 out of 5 stars a caffeinated sonic tonic!.......2001-11-30

Aren't there certain things that bring out your dark side? Sure there are! Maybe we can't cover all of them here, but playing Liar's Dice, for instance, causes me to transform from my usual mild demeanor into the ol' Prince of Darkness (I even have a special T-shirt for this sort of thing).

OK, I digress somewhat in that Lee Press-on and The Nails have captured the essence of evil manic fun in this romping CD. From the energized opening of Devil Drums forward, this CD rocks and smolders with a hellish blend of swing, jazz, and rock. Even the take on Ghost Riders in the Sky sounds clean and fresh. I especially love Shadowman (my one true friend) and Hat Back Boogie, two cuts that keep looping round my brain.

If you are looking for sonically perfect (e.g., later Pink Floyd) or accessible rock (e.g. top 40 corporate fluff), just say no. But if you want to liven up your next gathering by stimulating your friends auditory nerves with a caffeinated sonic tonic, this is your CD!

Why not just Enjoy Yourself!

4 out of 5 stars Alot of fun.......2001-10-02

I have had a friend or two tell me how great they are, and I've heard a few tracks from "Jump Swing from Hell," but until I saw LPN live I just didn't catch the vision-I honestly have not had this much fun at a concert in years. Lee is hilarious (a friend described him as a "little cartoon villain") and very entertaining to watch-and the other band members do their part too-the trumpet player ended up running out into the audience and jumping up on a low wall to do a solo, and all the members (even backups) were singing and dancing along to every song. No, they're not perfect, but these guys are just ALOT of fun. If you can't get into it, that's ok-more for the rest of us :) I bought this CD at the show-and it was just like bringing the concert home with me. Definitely worth it (and all the merchandise sales that night were donated to the Red Cross)-if you can, go see them & be prepared to let your hair down and have fun. If you can't, try this CD and you can get a taste of what you're missing :)

5 out of 5 stars Look at that gorgeous face..........2001-07-26

Not only the best CD LPN has ever recorded (so far), but the best CD that ANYONE has ever recorded. Yes, this is the single greatest piece of recorded music known to man. Not only that, but this CD cures polio and counteracts flesh-eating viruses. It's also perfectly round for ease of use in your CD player. I'm not just saying this because it's my band. It's all completely true.
