Editorial Reviews
Product Description
This is Ledisi's second project and it is described as a modern blend of Classic Jazz and Neo-Soul.
Features such artists as:Pete Escovedo(Concord Records), The Braxton Brothers (Peak Records) and also pianist and creator of "The Jazz Piano Theory Book," Mark Levine.
But do not think it's all jazz because it's not. This album features D'Angelo's Brown Sugar blended with Stanley Turrentine's Sugar. That song alone gives you the vibe of this album.
For those who love Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington, Jill Scott and D'Angelo will enjoy the way Ledisi and her co-producer Sundra "Sun" Manning created new classic jazz songs and put a modern touch to the standards to fit the young and old listeners.
This album satisfies both R&B fans as well as breathing life into the music of jazz. Feeling Orange But sometimes Blue is a innovative refreshing album.

Supreme Queen of nu-jazz /soul.......2007-06-03
Question....what do you get when you take aretha franklin, patti labelle, chaka khan, gladys knight, nina simone, dorinda clark and kim burrell mix them all in a blender? Baby you get the best thing that's happening in music today, and her name is ledisi. There is no comparison of young female singers today who can walk the walk and sing it like this young lady can. What do you like jazz? She can sing it. You say you like a little soul with pure gospel vibrations. She can sing that too,and with conviction. When it comes to vocalists of today Ledisi has no peers on the microphone. This new orleans born...oakland/san francisco raised woman can scat like ella, and belt out a tune that will make your mouth drop. Ledisi is not a singer. She is as we used to say back in the day a sangahh!!!!!!!
Latin Ledisi is Marvelous.......2007-05-05
I just listened to this again this morning. Her tune, Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue, is so great. I love her lyrics, her scatting/percussion on the outro, the horns--everything. This song is one of my all-time favorites.
Awesome .......2006-07-27
THIS CD IS LEGENDARY IN MY BOOK!!!! From the first cut which makes you headbob emmensly to Sentimental Mood which is almost a religious experience due to her vocal power this album defies belief!! If you don't own it I AM VERY SORRY FOR YOU. Please catch her live their is no other perfomer that I have seen that gives that kind of performance. Energy and vocal power that you wouldn't believe!!! I see her everytime she is the near the DC vacinity so trust me you will not be disappointed.
Recaptures the spirit of true soul music..........2006-01-25
While there are some modern singers who can still produce quality soul, (D'Angelo, Lauryn Hill notably) Ledisi is in a class of her own when it comes to bringing back that old school flavor to contemporary music. She has a very powerful voice and fantastic pitch; she always hits the sweet spot. Her command is incredible and she can do things with her voice which brings to mind such phenoms as Bobby McFerrin, although she sings entirely different music. Ledisi gives modern music hope, and with luck she can be sucessful; the music industry needs her now more than ever.
Her live is even better !!.......2005-02-23
After I bought her 2 albums, she came to Washington DC and performed in Blues Alley. That was a hot night !! She really melt me !!
Her voice is penetrating, soothing yet energetic. Soulful and Jazzy style sometimes with R&B moves. Good for every moment in a day. You will not regrate if you buy this album !!
