In the late 1950s, tenor man Hank Mobley was part of the groundbreaking hard-bop bands of Art Blakey and Horace Silver. In the early 1960s, he became a Blue Note tenor-sax perennial known for his fluid and soulful improvisations across simple originals, blues, and ballads on superb blowing-session albums such as Soul Station and Workout. But Mobley became more ambitious as time went on, and by the time he recorded this 1967 album, his composing and arranging was considerably more complex, diverse, and challenging, especially rhythmically. Recording with a fine septet including Lee Morgan, Cedar Walton, little-known avant guitarist Sonny Greenwich (a far cry from Grant Green), and a particularly active and inspired Billy Higgins, Mobley shows a slightly more angular, freer approach here than on his earlier dates, though still well within the hard-bop mainstream. --Marc Greilsamer

Customer Reviews:
Great soundtrack!.......2006-04-04
I am going to go against the grain here and say that the second disc is better. I love the dance hits, and they are great in the show, but the second disc is the one that brings back memories of specific scenes from that season. I would have given it five stars, but there should have been more tracks.
Happy I got It, but..........2005-10-03
This album was probably worth it, if only for "The Sound of Violence" by Cassius. Still can't get it out of my head, a month later. The second disk is fairly good, with Sneaker Pimps' surly new vocalist, BSS's Lover's Spit (first song of theirs I ever heard, back when the episode came out!), the Soundtrack of Our Lives Song is great, too. The first disk isn't quite up to par with the previous seasons songs, though Get Some Lovin is great.
All in all, a good album...but I'm still waiting for some mega album to be released, something more along the lines of the season 4 soundtrack...which had a good mix of everything. The music in this show has turned me on to so many incredible bands over the past few years....yes. There should really be a large compilation cd of more music from all the seasons.
Pretty much the ultimate Queer as Folk sdtk.......2005-08-17
One disc of continuous club mixes, and one disc of the more moody tracks used for the emotional moments in the show. Disc 1 only does it half right though. We get a couple of long versions, Kristine W (10:41), the Roc Project (the rare tiesto mix!!!) (6:36) and Gioia (the rare junior mix!!!) (8:15), but the rest of the tracks last under 5 minutes-and 30 minutes of disc space goes unused!!! This was a moment to shine, to give us 8 plus minutes of each of these dance songs in a continuous, 1 hour mix!!! Oh well...you'll have to pick up Club Babylon for that. And although this is TWO discs worth of music---disc 2 is only 32 minutes long!!!
I'm in the minority of a minority!.......2005-07-06
Am I the only one out there who loves the second CD in this set?! Apparently so! I think it's terrific for not being so "on the nose" as the obvious disco cuts of the first CD. "Loretta Young Silks" by the new male lead vocalist of the Sneaker Pimps is sumptuous! That the fist dance disc is great is a given, but if you like gay troubadors like Daniel Cartier, then you'll love the "come down" disc after dancing to the first one!
Head down to the dance floor.......2004-12-20
This is a great cd, it contains some of the hottest club anthems around, but the problem is that it only has eight songs on the first cd. The second cd, in my opinion, is disposable. I wouldn't go as far as to say that this cd is better than the second season. Although, it does have better songs, like Ono's "Walking On Thin Ice" and the Tiesto mix of "Never Past Tense." Overall, I would have given it a five star rating if it weren't for the useless second cd and because the first cd is too short.

Customer Reviews:
If you are looking for a kick as$ techno cd this is it........2004-12-21
Yes they do talk about their travels and their "hectic" rock and roll start-like schedules. Yes it is annoying and you do tend to skip over it and hit the forward button. Yes, no one wants to hear german conversations about steak and what to do at an afterparty etc etc. However, when these two are on they are so on!
The energy that both bring to the turntables is second to none. I am a big Richie Hawtin fan and I have most of his cd's. I have seen him many times and I truly believe that besides his decks fx and 909 cd (which is a great cd) this is one of the best cd's that you would find out him out there. Which is truly representative of what he sounds like at peak time hours at a party.
If you have never been or will never be in a techno club get this cd. The idea of recording everything that happens at a party, although well meant, it doesn't really come across well. But damn can these two throw down at a party, I have seen them both play together here in Toronto. Just this past summer actually and this is really a good representation of what they sound like. Very energetic, pumping techno. Lots of electro influenced sounds, some distorted vocals, but overalll the cd is just a very good collection of pumping energetic peak time party techno. You wont find any obscure IDM or brooding type of music, this is all out forward assault to get you dancing-- to tekno musik.
fav. tracks are
the swayzak track is just beutiful
and most of the ending tracks are great, the german talking samples are awesome and just add authenticity to what true techno sounds like.
basically from track 8 to the end of the cd the full on assault doesn't stop.
this was one of my favourite cd's. Not becuse of the annoying vocal samples of afterparty cracked out thoughts of these two dj's but the music is just so overwhelmingly infectious. That is if you like techno ofcourse.
an inteligente CD deserve more than five stars.......2004-10-27
all i got to say on this review is richie hawtin is the man, they aren't cd's like this is pure mind ideas. is so good that's the way to mix minimal techno richie way to go man keep using your brain just like that. that is a nice way to use it jaja i hope you read this. and i'll be waiting for another one mix of you so hit us hit your crowd. later bro
DJ JNO huge fan. BOGOTA,COLOMBIA
half wrong or half right????.......2004-02-22
although richie is clearly god, i feel as though i should warn you about this album: he opens it in fine form, plays wicked tracks (with the only possible exception being 'dirty' - house anthem!! what?? although, not a bad remix). if you are not paying attention to the track numbers, you will notice at some point that the music suddenly begins to get sketchy - and then more sketchy, and then... oh, it's sven. sorry to the fans, and admittedly, i don't know anything about him outside this album, but it doesn't blend well at all! he is a talented dj, no question, but i think if you are buying the album because you love richie, reconsider it - he would understand.
........2003-11-04
an interesting if slightly unrewarding release from messrs Hawtin and Vath. As with many techno releases these days there is a genuine lack of entertainment value alongside some well selected tracks. The dialogue snippets grate after a while however, in fairness they do add a unique touch. There is on the other hand little excuse for "safe" mixing.
Put your head down to the bass unit and enter another realm.......2003-08-20
When I purchased this album I didn't know what it would be like, I've heard of Richie Hawtin but I never was able to find his albums anywhere. When I purchased this I was excited and eager to listen to an album of Richie Hawtin's, I must admit the album is different and unique because I never really listened to Techno/Trance of this nature. I am more accustomed to Paul Oakenfold, Christopher Lawrence, DJ Keoki, DaRude, and Paul Van Dyk. This album though has opened new passages for me to be a little more open minded when it comes to Electronica of every Kind. This album was well worth the purchase and I reccomend it to all

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

Customer Reviews:
Better than expected........2006-12-11
There's no one--I'll say it again: no one, period--who improvises more creatively than Hank Mobley, 1954-1963. Anything from this period gets played every day in my collection: it's music of inexhaustible lyricism and unforced beauty--more palatable than a constant diet of any other saxophonist I can think of. Beginning as early as 1964 Hank begins to buckle--to the pressures from Blue Note for not selling records, to the pressures of peers, who were either running funk-wild over boogaloo beats or churning out the same Dorian mode tunes over and over again. Neither approach treated Hank kindly, who couldn't "sell out" even when he tried to. Sound was his medium, his instrument, his voice--not his gimmick.
This session has more of the old Mobley than I would have expected and, moreover, is not mired in soul cliches or faux modal freedom. But the proceedings get dull in a hurry, as though a listless Mobley senses it's about over, short of a last few, mostly unfortunate, attempts to gain the ears of listeners in the late sixties and beyond. Pick it up only if you're determined to fill in all of the chapters of the rise and fall of a natural-born singer on the instrument, perhaps the most inventive yet purest aesthete the blues has ever known.
Very Good CD.......2000-12-06
Anything with Hank Mobley, Cedar Walton, Lee Morgan, and Billy Higgins has to be a classic. Except for Boss Bossa, every tune is a standout.
Third Season Only Gets A Third Star.......2000-07-25
This is a mediocre Hank Mobley CD to say the least. Mobley's late 50s Blue Note albums are solid hard bop affairs, and his early 60s albums for the label are classics. But after 1963, the albums are hit or miss. The problems with "The Third Season" can be summed up in the first track, "An Aperitif." After a creative theme, Lee Morgan plays an uncharacteristically uninspired trumpet solo, and Sonny Greenwich, when he's not trying to catch up to the song's tempo, is playing some pretty boring licks. Thankfully, Mobley and Cedar Walton are in fine form, and they help save the recording. Since this is a limited edition CD, many people will want to pick it up quickly. But if you're new to Mobley's music, start with "Soul Station" or "Workout."

NYC SKA IS GREATEST........2006-03-23
Cannot believe that there has passed almost a decade since the release of "Open Season," and it is still at par with any Ska production of 2006. This CD is simply brilliant. Among all steller tracks, my favorite is "Lieutenant." This song itself worths checking this cd out, it has every vibe that NYC ska offers, from the killer Ruggiero's organ to the smoother Django's voice, not to mention the chilling Hillyard's tenor. If you never discovered the beauty of Lieutenant, better pick this CD up! NYC SKA is the best.
A CLASSIC IN BOTH SKA AND MUSIC.......1999-10-14
It's hard to sum up all the accolades I'd like to splurge out; to be perfectly blunt, this album (as well as their follow-up, Back With a New Batch) is one that defines modern (and even traditional) ska and proves that even in the bland banality of the '90s, originality and genius is still alive. Jeff "Django" Baker is a mastermind, and Vic Ruggiero is one of the most amazing musicians to come around ever in popular music (and, trust me, i've heard a lot of music)!
