Another strange, but wonderful outting from Les!.......2006-02-04

As most already know, it is very hard to catagorize Les Baxter, and this cd twofer is no exception.
While the first of the (2) albums on this disc shows his orchestral flair, with a bit of the "exotica" sound most people assoicate him with, the second is a total plunge into folk music with very little or none of "that" sound apparent at all.
Each album on it's own rates a "5", but when put together on 1 disc, they suffer a tad simply because the mood of each is so totally different.
Les Baxter fans will overcome this and enjoy the disc anyway, especially since his genius is ignored by the record labels who would prefer to make big, fast money with "celebrities" instead of smaller, but steady money with "artists" like him who still command a loyal following. Thank God there are places like Oldies/Collectibles who still seem to value talent over cash!
