Classic R&B!.......2006-02-10

This LP (at the time, I didn't have a CD player!) was on my turntable non-stop at the time. And I made cassette dubs of it also to play in the car rides (which sometimes drove my mom crazy, as it wasn't so much her type of music!). I was so thrilled when I first saw the 45 of "Wait for Me" in the local record store, as I KNEW it had to be "the 2 girls from the Sugar Babes"!!

This album is late 80's/early 90's R&B and new-jack swing at its best, with a "pop feel/appeal" to it! Stacye Irvin and Kimiko Whitaker threw down with those ad-libs! They were the first "contemporary" R&B artists that I remember hearing who used the ad-libs as such an integral part of their delivery of the melody! They employ this approach in a variety of mediums, from the sassy swing of "Come and Get It" to the heavenly hush of "Lover's Paradise" and the yearning desire of "Every Word" (my personal favorite at the time).

The midtempo, Janet Jackson-esque "Wait for Me" was the first single - and it reached the top -40 of the Billboard R&B chart in the summer of 1990, aided by a colorful video (Yes, it was low-budget, but still charming!). Unfortunately, the follow-up, the funky "R.U. Available," totally bombed. The lyrics to it and the arrangement by Chuckii Booker were both unique and satiating, but it somehow didn't fit into the "in" R&B sound of the time. I really wish MCA had given at least one more song from the album a shot after that, but it wasn't to be. It's interesting to note that "Lover's Paradise" was co-written by a very successful R&B chanteuse of the time, Karyn "Superwoman" White!

I was very pleased to read in a 1992 Billboard article that Kimiko would be releasing a solo album on Tabu Records that year - but it never was released! I did, however, notice her name on the credits of "vocal co-production" on Salt-N-Pepa's single from that year, "Start Me Up"! But I've not seen mention of her or Stacye ever since! Would love to know what they're doing now! They surely brought a lot of joy into my youth. And I think, despite the fact that their names are not widely known, that they did influence a few other artists in the genre who came after them!

I highly recommend this CD!

Steady 90s soul.......2005-06-05

This is a 90s record and of course you hear that, but nevertheless it is a steady soul recoord- well sung and with good productions by e.g. Chuckii Booker and Vahn Goh. Try "Wait for me".

Love These Girls.......2004-01-01

These girls got me through my first heartbreak!! Their song, "It Just Aint Right" is still a good song to listen to after a bad breakup. It helped me bounce right back (LoL). I'm married now, so songs like "Lover's Paradise" and "I've Been Waiting" are more appropriate! Either way, this album is a gem! Every song has wonderful lyrics and their voices blend perfectly. The used to be called the "Sugarbabes" and they had a third member...they looked just like an 80's version of Destiny's Child..it's amazing!Enjoy this cd!

EARLY 90'S R&B.......2003-09-14

STACYE AND KIMIKO used to apart of girl group THE SUGAR BABES in the late 80's. They returned as a duo with the cd "PARADISE". the first single "WAIT FOR ME" easily rivals anything JANET JACKSON was putting out at that time. Ironically the girls work with CHUCKII BOOKER(who was touring with JACKSON) on this release. The groovy "R U AVAILABLE" and sexy "COME AND GET IT" find the girls more than reliable at holding their own. They dont have the strongest voices but they do have good range and could easily rival BRANDY or ASHANTI. Good 90's r&b from a duo who should have gotten more recognition.

One of the kings of the New Jack slow jam.......2007-01-16

Why Christopher Williams is not more well known than he is is a complete mystery. Not only does he have a great voice and undeniably romantic sentiment, he also has a plethora of killer connections (he's a nephew of legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, a cousin of Al B. Sure!, and he dated Halle Berry). This debut album proudly proclaims that "this is the year of Christopher Williams" and it was hardly overstating itself. All songs are good or great, particularly "Promises, Promises."

Brutha Can Throw Down.......2006-09-03

This was the first recording of many for Christopher and it was a great First release, the best thing about this cd is that the songs are timeless(mainly the quiet storm type of tracks) The fact is he can sing, and sing very well which makes this recording one for the collection, or your just missing out. This is a must have, so get it, you won't regret it.

Sweet Memories...........2006-07-06

I was fortunate to find this cd again on Ebay in excellent condition for 9.99. I cannot believe how much it is going for now that it is no longer in print. In any event, Christopher is the man for this style of music. I am having hours of enjoyment listening to it. Songs with such passion as Christopher's is missing in the music world today; sad but true. Christopher Williams brings back those sweet memories when the songs were smooth and deeply passionate. Good work, Christopher. This one is a gem, indeed.

Still Burning!.......2004-12-06

I started keeping this CD in my bedroom, away from the rest of my collection because people keep trying to take it home with them. They all remember this burner! The entire CD is hot enough to melt the polar ice caps! Chris had an amazing debut. I still remember seeing him on tour with Stephanie Mills in the early 90's! At show, he threw his wash cloth at me and I caught it! Ha! Ha! I didn't mind the sweat at all! Talk about a smoking show! Anyway, I have to keep him under lock and key and checking the prices here, I see why! I got lucky and found the CD at a warehouse for $5.99 about 5 years ago and what a bargain it was... Solid, solid..complete effort!

I still like this album! .......2004-10-21

Christopher Williams was underrated when he started out with his first album. Much of the attention was more toward Bobby Brown, Keith Sweat and Al B Sure!, but Chris made a solid debut, with songs like Promises Promises, Sexy Sex, his superb remake of Always and Forever, and the smooth ballads that dominate the second half. The music was very well done for an R&B release. Though his second album got pushed back to 1992, he later faded a bit. But I still remember this debut a lot. I've noticed that he's been doing plays as of late, so he's still out there 15 years later, entertaining folks!

A Nice Time Capsule.......2006-04-30

If you want to know where House got its sound and how it all got started this CD is required listening. Original House is basically DISCO. Everyone who calls themselves DJs should have ANY AND ALL of Larry Levan's music available because without Him neither Paradise Garage NOR HOUSE music and it's many subgenres (GARAGE Music being one and owes its NAME to the legendary club)would have been what they were. His music selections were not just TOP 40 songs or the garrish POP MUSIC format that has infested modern music today.The songs were better yet the description of the Soul Of A Man. How many DJs TRULY do it like Larry Levan did? I doubt you will find any no matter how good these Djs out here are now there had to be one to pave the way for all the rest.Larry Levan was that one. Buy this CD if you don't have it!!!!

Classic Deep Disco Collection.......2005-11-19

Larry Levan snd Salsoul?? How much more can be said other than of corse this is classic by all means. If you're new to deep disco then this is a great place to start your collection. For those of u who already know this nothing more can be said. MUAHH

Worth the cost for "Make It Last Forever" Alone!!!!.......2005-03-25

This compilation is one of the VERY few that feature the full length version of Jocelyn Brown's Garage classic "Make It Last Forever." EVERYTIME I hear the first few bars of that song I go back to Paradise...and remember hearing the song while up on the roof watching the sun come up. I would always head toward the floor, because Larry would work this song...gonna make it last forever!!! An essential Larry Levan classic!!!!!!!!!!

No mixing!.......2003-09-11

Very good tracks, but didn't mix any of the great songs. A little dissappointed, but will keep the CD anyway. If your not looking for a mix then this CD will give you the enjoyment you need from a Great DJ like Larry Levan.

This CD is dedicated to greatest dj ever, the selection made by François Kevorkian is simply awesome and features some very rare grooves, you should have it already ;)

perfect for the Gershwin-minded jazz listener.......2007-06-12

Drawing from the Verve archives, "'S Paradise" is a quality collection of Gershwin music. Since most selections were recorded in the 1950's, this release will appeal to jazz purists. The primary genre here is straight jazz, played by smaller sized groups that seldom exceed the quintet. The overall mood is relaxed and cool. The musicians are first rate including Coleman Hawkins, Clifford Brown, Art Tatum, Bill Evans and so the list continues. Oscar Peterson's 'Strike Up The Band' is one of the more spirited retellings. Featuring each track's personnel and any significant background information, the liner notes are detailed. "'S Paradise" is part of "The Complete Gershwin Songbooks," a three disc box set. While the other discs feature vocal versions, all three discs are very worthwhile. "'S Paradise" is a quality disc for any listener who appreciates both jazz and the music of Gershwin.

This is a wonderful cd. Jared has a wonderful voice and really cool lyrics. This cd doesn't seem like the regular pop which lyrics don't mean a thing. These lyrics actually mean something and are sung by a wonderful voice!

This is a CD that every pop/r&b listener should get. I listened to Jared's CD all week and it's very refreshing to hear new real talent especially now a days. He is an awesome vocalist and his songs are quite deep. He should get a Grammy for this album!!!!!

One word, Incredible!.......2000-09-14

Wow! How often can you say that you have heard the best album ever? Not very often. I enjoy pop music from time to time. But over all it is not something I would listen to all the time. Until now. Jared Douglas's CD is something I have been listening to for the last week. I believe I have played only one to two other CDs all week. Now that is something I can not say about any other CD I have ever purchased.

This CD is a must get.

Listening to Jared's music is such a refreshing experience! Most of today's music is pointless and endless mumble jumble. With Jared you get lyrics that mean something and you can apply to your own life! In addition the music has a great feel to it. She has such a charming voice and is such a beautiful and friendly person. She does great live performances and if you love soul music, she is a must. This album was mainly recorded with Womak & Womak. It's smooth and honest and has a bit of Raeggae influence too (Ruby is from Jamaica). Beautiful songs and a heartfelt production.

Wow, Slim Man! That sexy vibe, that elegant style. On "Closer to Paradise" the Slim Man delivers elegant warmth and beauty of his original jazz-kissed, adult contemporary pop tunes. Retracing the simple formulas that made supperclub jazz and soulful R&B so radiantly romantic, Slim dips his melodies into a light pop coating. Every track is a buried treasure. Check out "When a Dream Comes True" and "Another Day, Another Night." Can't get enough of the Slim Man! Add it to your private collection along with "Jazzified", "End of the Rainbow," and "Secret Rendezvous" and just put the CD player on "random select." Wow.
