Throughout the 1980s, "We are the Scorpions!" was lead vocalist Klaus Meine's concert-opening battle cry, energizing and readying the faithful in sold-out stadiums for a Teutonic onslaught of vital, sometimes plodding, eardrum-splitting rock anthems. In short, the arena-rock monsters were never a picnic-under-the-stars kind of band ... until Moment of Glory. The new millennium brings the Scorpions full circle, melding in-your-face party anthems like "Rock You Like a Hurricane" (now called "Hurricane 2000") and "Big City Nights" into fully orchestrated concoctions featuring the Berlin Philharmoniker. Where the grandiose likes of "Wind of Change" and "Still Loving You" are obvious choices for such a pairing, and indeed, work well, the "Deadly Sting Suite," with almost unrecognizable instrumental versions of "He's a Woman, She's a Man" and "Dynamite," will likely catch the unknowing fan of classic Scorps off guard. Both Deep Purple and Metallica have used full orchestras to accent their songs with mixed results, and the same goes for the Scorps. There's a fine line between wine-and-cheese classical fare and whiney and cheesy metal. Here the Scorpions teeter, if often gracefully, on that line. --Katherine Turman

4 out of 5 stars Got me hooked on Scorpions.......2007-04-12

I absolutely love the marriage of rock and symphony here. It's gorgeous. The Scorpions take already amazing songs and pump them up an extra notch. A long time ago I heard "Still Loving You" on the radio, not knowing who sung it. It took me years to finally discover the Scorpions. I own two different versions of "Still Loving You," and I far prefer this one to the original. It gives me this yearning inside. The only thing I don't like about this album is the guest vocalists. I love Klaus Meine. He adds an ethereal element to the music, and with the guest vocals, it takes away from the beauty, in my opinion. But don't let that deter you from getting this, because it is so worth it. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" is amazing! It's all amazing!

5 out of 5 stars Moment of Glory.......2007-04-01

With metal music it is always louder is better and this album found one of the coolest ways to make metal louder. Combining the Scorpions with a the Philharmonic creates one of the coolest sounding albums I have ever heard.

5 out of 5 stars [].......2007-03-14

i dont own this album but i have heard the songs off of it and i think their all great and performed well. and also as a side note since i read alot of comments about the guest vocals on "big city nights" but no mention of who: it is Ray Wilson best known for replacing Phill Collins in Genesis and recording the classic Calling all Stations

1 out of 5 stars dynamite!.......2002-10-21

Just when you think the scorpions couldn't do worst...they prove you wrong!
Even Metallica's s&m is better...close but still.
I am sure that it was a great experience to live, for the band and the audience, because that type of event is always unique and can bring strong emotions-unless you have a dumb..s sitting next to you, drinkin' beer and screaming every five minutes Dynamiiiiiiite!!-but on cd...for me it doesn't do it,but it probably is a treasure for those who were there.
Now, I'm not gonna start the debat with DEEP PURPLE and the LSO(1999) but I was there at the Royal Albert Hall and that's why I can understand the concept and the thrill of holding the recording of such concerts...but still DEEP PURPLE 's symphonic album features something that neither Scorpions or Metallica holds...and this is an ORIGINAL PIECE OF MUSIC CREATED FOR A GROUP AND A ORCHESTRA!

5 out of 5 stars Truly a Moment of Glory for the Scorpions!.......2002-07-31

AWESOME is how I would sum up this CD. From the moment I first heard it, I knew I HAD to have it. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!

      Product Description

A 29-track, 78-minute Tornadoes extravaganza! For the first time, all of the full-length single mixes are on CD and in the best sound ever. In addition to the band's singles and choice '60s and '90s album tracks (with some of the '60s material engineered by Frank Zappa), the band's newest recordings ("Bottom Feeder" and "The Cruncher") carry on The Tornadoes' tradition of powerful instrumental work. Five unreleased live recordings from the "Zappanale 15" festival in 2004, including a piledriving version of Zappa's own "Grunion Run," show that the band continues to spread their worldwide acclaim.

        5 out of 5 stars Great collaboration.......2007-04-24

Maybe someone in Pennsylvania is selling bootleg copies. I own the original vinyl as well as the CD and the sound quality on both is excellent. The combination of Michael's great songs with the musicianship of Crossfire (a band which wowed everyone at Montreux)is simply outstanding. If you would like a short version of a "Best of Michael Franks" performed by outstanding musicians, this album is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars The best of Michael Franks.......2007-01-21

I used to own this album on vinyl, and was delighted to find that it has been released on CD. The Crossfire band is a perfect fit for Franks, creating a warm and smooth atmosphere around this collection of his top songs. This is smooth jazz from long before the term came into regular use, and a very recommendable experience for Michael Franks fans and others who like smooth, high quality jazz in a live setting.

4 out of 5 stars Hey, I was there :-).......2006-11-16

This album was recorded in Australia, oh so many years back, and I was fortunate enough to be sitting about 10 feet away from Michael Franks and Crossfire (an amazing Sydney-based jazz fusion band who often accompanied visiting musical royalty)during one of the gigs at which some of the tracks were recorded. Jim Kelly, the guitarist, is pretty near my favourite guitarist of all time and the whole band cooked on that night. Sadly, Crossfire disbanded many years back but Jim is teaching music in the Southern Cross University, Lismore, NSW, Australia and maintains a prolific output of music with various projects he is involved in.

1 out of 5 stars Muffled recording taped in the audience.......2006-06-27

When I got this CD, I was very disappointed. This is not a professional recording, but rather one taped by someone in the audience. The sound is muffled instead of being crisp. And the backup group obviously was not very familiar with the songs. They would go off on solos, and never complete them because they got lost in the riff and ran out of time before the vocal was supposed to return... In addition, the CD was not playable on my computer, so I could not put it on my iPod...

        5 out of 5 stars I loved it.......2003-07-01

A long time ago I lived with my then boyfriend . he had a lot of tapes. No cd's back then ;-)
We were always listening to a live concert of someone I did not know, but I always remembered that they said here is Michael franks with crossfire.
Years later (I broke up with the guy) i discovered Michael franks had a lot of albums, so I bought one and it was great, but i still wanted the one with crossfire. The atmosphere the timing, those together.it sounded so good, and given the fact that i have very nice memories with this music.
It had a big impact on me. so i give it 5 stars.

Gashed Senses & Crossfire was not an album that I liked all that much to begin with. I was expecting it to sound more like TNI and was disapointed. This was because during this time of my life I had a very set way of what music should sound like. Now with a more mature mindset I truly appreciate this album for what it is. The book-let is a joke, the cover art looks cheap, the font looks like public domain and there is like absolutely no information inside. It is totally blank and I have no idea why Third Mind Records made this inane decision. No Limit, Digital Tension Dementia are the main tracks on this very well produced and recorded album.

              3 out of 5 stars decent, but..........2005-02-11

Tracks like "No Limit", "Bloodsport" and possibly others show hints of what would come with FLA, but as a whole this album hasn't aged as well as their later efforts. The dated production and a few uninspired tracks keep this from being an "essential" album. Try Tactical Neural Implant, Caustic Grip, or even Civilization instead.

3 out of 5 stars still under Puppy influence?.......2001-04-29

In my opinion, this album is the first good FLA album, the earlier being or much too short('Disorder')or poorly made ('State of Mind'). It is a good album, which marks could have marked the beginning of a style but marked the end actually, since Michael Balch left the band, was replaced by Rhys Fulber and the band began a harder style with 'Caustic Grip' or a more danceable one with 'Tactican Neural Implant'. It seems to me that Leeb's music was still under his influence from his earlier band, the great Skinny Puppy; and that's not a negative criticism, since I would compare it to such a good album such as SP's 'Cleanse Fold and Manipulate'; However, I consider FLA a less inspired band than Skinny puppy; Leeb's voice lacks the interesting dramatic nuances of Ogre's voice, and his songs are more boring and monotonous; 'Gashed Senses and Crossfire' has some industrial hits ('No Limit', 'Digital Tension Dementia'), some would-be hits ('Big Money', a song that Nitzer Ebb's fans could like a lot), some instrumental songs full of sampled voices ('Prayer', 'Sedation'); I would remark the interesting similarities of 'Hypocrisy' with Front 242's 'Sacrifice'; both are good, anyway. My favourite trach here is 'Shutdown', 'cos I think it creates a menacing atmosphere. This is maybe not the best FLA album, but it is the best in combining quality and spontaneity, since I think earlier works lacked the first, and later ones lacked the second.

              5 out of 5 stars Old School Industrial-The Best!.......2001-01-07

I purchased this CD in the late 80's. On the original Wax Trax CD Label. As the band grew so did there talent. "Gashed Senses & Crossfire" Is very basic compared to the "new" industrial scene. If you like Front 242 or KMFDM or even Nitzer Ebb. You will enjoy this heavy sampled mixture of pure industrial talent. Newbies: DONT PASS THIS BAD BOY UP!

5 out of 5 stars Cool tribute CD. SRV would like it........2005-04-12

This is a great CD. I don't have it but just listing to the samples is good. My favorite song by SRV is "Cold Shot" and I think that Steve Stevens does an excellent job on it. Also "Couldn't Stand the Weather" with Scott Hill on it sounds just like SRV. In "House is Rockin" the piano solo is rockin.

4 out of 5 stars "An SRV Tribute Album that Lives Up to It's Name".......2004-01-12

This 11-track tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan is a great collection which includes awesome cover versions of songs from his four studio albums: Texas Flood (1983), Couldn't Stand the Weather (1984), Soul to Soul (1985), and In Step (1989).
The standouts include blazing renditions of "Couldn't Stand the Weather", "Pride & Joy", "Tightrope", and the Hendrix-like instrumental "Say What!" Any fan of Stevie Ray's music will surely enjoy this unique tribute to the late guitarist.

              4 out of 5 stars great tribute.......2000-09-03

LIKE ANY TRIBUTE CD THERE IS ALWAYS SOME KIND OF ANTICIPATION OF THE QUALITY OF THE SONGS AND ARTISTS WHO ARE PLAYING ON THIS CD,WELL THERE IS PLENTY OF BOTH. THE GREAT SONGS ARE "SAT WHAT" BY WALTER TROUT AND "RIVERIA PARADISE" BY STANLEY JORDAN.
