Album Description

Quality music at a great price, this collection features 20 tracks including 'How Deep Is The Ocean', 'No Strings', 'Puttin' On The Ritz' & 'Heatwave'. The Swingles have, unusually, incorporated electric keyboards, horns and drums into their usually acappella approach, resulting in some thoroughly modern interpretations of Berlin's classics. Castle Pulse. 2003.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for me........2006-05-04

I LOVE the Swingle Singers. The first time I heard them sing Bach back in the 60's I was driving a car and I was so blown away that I had to pull off the road. And I LOVE Irving Berlin's music; his message is simple and direct and tuneful. And therein lies the rub. To me, the jazz vocal styles, the contemporary harmonies and the whimsical utterances of the Swingle Singers go together with Irving Berlin's music like oil and water; they just don't mix. The words and melodies are those of Irving Berlin but the end result isn't Irving Berlin. Admittedly this is one man's opinion, and others might take great pleasure in the Swingle Singers' unfailing virtuosity and inventiveness. But if you anticipate the straighforward tunes and emotional directness in Berlin's music, you are apt to be disappointed.

2 out of 5 stars Single vs. Album.......2005-03-26

I got this when it came out and I recently got the album. I don't recommend these songs even if you have the whole album. I found Mission and Steel Rain to be better songs. They are more like Soundgarden than these two singles. On my computer (Pentium II) the video was 1/5th of the screen size. Any Soundgarden fan should get the whole Euphoria Morning side project instead.

5 out of 5 stars When I'm Down...............2004-05-30

Don't let Amazons review throw you off, When I'm down IS on Euphoria Morning, so unless you are a die-hard Chris Cornell fan and need to have everything that he has produced, this single is not unique in anyway, great songs but they all appear on the full studio album. It gets five stars because the album gets five stars.

3 out of 5 stars Can't Change Me Import Sinngle.......2000-08-18

The first single from Chris Cornell's solo debut "Euphoria Morning", Can't Change Me, has a strange mix of instrumentation provided by Chris' band, Eleven. Laid over the twangy blend is Chris' signature deep brooding vocals which all Soundgarden fans will appreciate. Fluttergirl is a demo version of the albums Beatle-esque second track. This version is mostly Chris and an acoustic guitar. Cornell says that this was meant to be a singers record. On special tracks like this, his voice really gets to shine. It is very much a must have for any fan of Cornells' music. Nowhere But You is one of those non-songs, simply a deep, dark, cold acoustic guitar plucking a repeated rhythm with Chris' spacy vocals somehere in the background barely heard. Theres not a lot of melody in it but quite a bit of substance. The guitar part doesn't really sound like a real song, but by the end you will find yourself nodding right along.

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2001-12-07

This is a wonderful jazz album. Johanne has a gorgeous voice, and it is shown off to perfection on these songs. Her "Air Mail Special" shows how well she can scat in the Ella tradition. Excellent! Her cover of the Jobim classic "Agua De Beber" is also spectacular. The gorgeous ballads like "Angel Eyes" and the beautiful Brazilian song "The Island", have never sounded better. Every song on this album is great, and I hope we get another album from her soon.

    4 out of 5 stars a welcomed jazz newcomer.......2001-05-22

Great versions of standard songs. A few surprises (the Joni Mitchell-Mingus songs) but Johanne Blouin is best when covering well-known ballads such as " Angel eyes " or" You don't know what love is". The very well-known musicians do an OK job but could have supported her more in this first jazz venture. A singer one should pay attention to.

4 out of 5 stars Great voice, classy, jazzy, sexy !.......2001-01-13

Johanne Blouin is a pop artist who turned to be a really good jazz singer. Her voice is very classy. You will love this album. There's a lot of classic songs on this album. They are really well interpreted. Her version of Agua De Beber and her version of Air Mail Special are great. She will become really popular I think. It's a good CD to put when you have a dinner with friends, her voice is relax and sweat !

Awright BFFers, if you've been looking for a good Single from the Boys, this one is it! DCYP is cut short as it is the radio edit, Army has the cuss words and is normal length. Missing the War is decent, but it sounds like Ben has a cold in it. But the coup de gracie is this: Song for the Dumped. If you have been looking for the version that they perform on stage, this one is it! It has a hilarious intro, all the way through piano scratching bass scratching and drum hitting! Check out this CD ya'll

Being the true Jay-Z fan that I am, I'm able to accurately judge when he is and when he isn't dropping hot music. I have nothing against commercial songs when they are done properly. Jay-Z is one of the few who can do it with class but he chose not to on this song. This track is bubble-gum pop to the fullest. "I Just Wanna Love You" was dope commercial hip-hop, "Do it Again" was dope commercial hip-hop but this isn't. The problem obviously isn't the lyrics because Jay can craft clever and witty lyrics all of the time and his flow is untouchable. The problem lies in the poppish beat. The Neptunes provide for a softy and mushy beat that only Jay-Z's female fans can enjoy. Maybe some of the younger Jay fans liked this song too. Older fans like myself can't appreciate this song. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 is because Jay does have nice flow on the song and the "What More Can I Say" b-side is hot. Jay needs to stop making singles like this. He has dope tracks on his albums but singles like this are the reason why some people perceive him as wack. Make a single for "Threat" or something because "Change Clothes" is the only track that I have to skip on the Black Album. I can't feel that song at all and I'm sure other real Jay fans agree.

5 out of 5 stars If you like Slow, you'll like that one........2003-07-01

Another good release of this guitar master and great composer, I've been following the Kotzen's career for the last 4 years and I enjoyed every release of him. This is a very strong effort, with nylon guitars, crunch guitars, soul and pop inspired and some rock on it, not talking of the be-bop jazz track, "Unity" that's truly amazing. It starts with a rock tune, "Forever One", then it quickly passes to a pop inspired, "Get A Life", following to a nylon tune, "Change" the track-title. It quickly turns again to soul and pop inspired tunes. "High" is one of my favorites, and "Am I Dreamin" is truly amazing!! "Shine" is an acoustic version from the original Mr. Big song from "Actual Size", the band's last work. The fusion of rock, funk and rap in "Fast Money Fast Cars" is not like most of the tunes that we usually hear on midia mainstream. IT REALLY WORKS!! It also could be a soundtrack of some kind of movie like "The Fast and The Furious" for example, it's amazing! Then turns to jazz be-bop with "Unity" and ends up with an instrumental one, "Out Take". If you like music and like Kotzen, you'll gonna like Change. But if you only like old Kotzen releases like Fever Dream, Electric Joy, or guitar virtuosos and hard rock, you'll probably hate this one. But get it anyway, man, it's music of greatest quality!!! I can't stop hear it!

4 out of 5 stars Seems that Richie did it again.......2003-05-13

I saw the songs sample on Richie's web site, it seems that Richie is coming with another killing cd. Let's wait and see what happens.
