About the Artist
Third Inversion is a jazz quartet comprised of guitar, piano, drums, and bass.

Tyra Neftzger, the group's founder and guitarist, is also the composer and arranger of the tracks on Psalmthing Blue. Tyra also released a Christmas CD in 2003 with several of his friends (Tyra & Co.) on which he arranged traditional Christmas music with a Latin-jazz feel.

Product Description
A collection of original jazz-blues instrumentals with musical influences that can be traced to Cole Porter, George Gershwin and even Frederic Chopin. The format of the odd-numbered tracks is a traditional jazz/blues style, with variations in time signature and composition that sets each one apart from the others. Acoustic interludes connect the pieces to form a smooth transition from one musical concept into the next. Psalmthing Blue is something different for those who enjoy jazz.

Psalmthing Blue,Psalmthing Blue,Fields of Gold,Instrumental Jazz Blues somewhat reminiscent of Guaraldi. Sometimes playful... sometimes mysterious... sometimes funky.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great for Gifts.......2005-05-24

I bought this CD based on the recommendations listed here and I have not been disappointed. I've loaned this CD to several friends who aren't familiar with jazz and it has received favorable responses from everyone. So if you're looking for a CD to introduce someone to jazz this would be a great start. The musical structure is blues, but the harmonies stay true to jazz without watering it down. Nice gift idea.

4 out of 5 stars Listen your stress away..........2005-02-05

Because I'm a writer, I enjoy music without lyrics so that I can listen while I work. This CD has a very relaxing feel to it and it keeps me from feeling stressed while I'm concentrating. It's a nice recording if you're looking for jazz without blaring trumpets (which I like - but not when I'm writing) or for something to just sit back and enjoy while you drink your Saturday morning coffee. I agree that the melodies are nice and that the group plays with cohesiveness.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Instrumental.......2005-01-24

I am a huge fan of instrumental music - especially jazz music. I heard "Blues Number 40" on the radio when I was driving in my car and was reminded a little of Guarldi's work - maybe the pianist is influenced by his style. I bought the CD and have been listening to it over and over because of the nice melodies, transitions, and the beautiful flow from one tune to the next.

While the music is great, I confess that I'm a fan of good liner notes (what jazz fan isn't?) and these were nicely done. Nice artistry all around!

4 out of 5 stars Blues with great color.......2004-12-16

This CD is nicely done and it gives wonderful color to the blues. While the songs stay true to the blues structure, they are creatively done in different time signatures. At least one is in ¾ and there's one in something like 8/15... but the song is so well done that you can hardly tell - it just flows.

The interludes connect each piece so there are no sudden changes in tone. Wonderful melodies convey the true circuit of emotion we associate with jazz. Highly recommended for jazz fans who love blues or instrumentals.

5 out of 5 stars Not Flashy. Simply Beautiful........2004-12-15

While I don't personally know the arranger I do know great music. I heard a cut from this CD on WBLZ in Birmingham and that was enough for me to run out and buy the CD. This is a wonderful and moving collection of instrumentals that I found relaxing as well as inspiring. While the songs are all blues, they take the listener on a journey through different emotions from despair to hope . Not flashy. Simply beautiful.
