Elizabeth Mitchell is a smidge less locked into the no-frills folkie formula on You Are My Sunshine than on her debut, You Are My Flower. In fact, if you subtract the A-list collaborators (and, OK, the dulcimers, mandolins, and human beat boxes), Mitchell starts to look a lot like the female Dan Zanes. The same rootsy sensibility rules both artists' recordings, as does a reverence for tried-and-true folk tunes ("Good Night Irene," "Skip to My Lou") and clean production. More significantly, slivers of Zane-like adventurousness shine through here: "Alphabet Dub" set the ABCs to a reggae beat; "Hey Bo Diddley" tips its hat to the rock & roll pioneer; and the kids are called in to spice up "Crawdad." Counting kids' artists who are genuinely cool still requires fewer than 10 fingers, but with Flower and Sunshine, Mitchell proves she's among the elite. --Tammy La Gorce

I started singing You Are My Sunshine to my son when he was born(07-29-06) so I thought I should get a cd with the song on it and this version is the best. I keep it in the car mainly and when he starts getting a little fussy I pop in the cd song number 9 and he quiets right down and falls asleep. Its a godsend.

I heard this song on the series finale of Queer As Folk and I thought it was fantastic. On the cd I purchased this version is unnumbered and the last track. Elizabeth is a fantastic folk artist and as President and CEO for the reactivated Cashbox Magazine I am looking for her to move forward in her career.

This CD is a refreshing acoustic departure from a world full of computer-generated tunes and cheesy children's music. Great classics for families with not too much instrumentation and plenty of human voice.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

One of the talented musical arrangers is Ray Conniff, hands down in my opinion. This collection proves that in these selections of songs popular in the early 1970s. I especially enjoyed his renditions of Dueling Voices and the theme from 2001:A Space Odyssey! A nice two fer set of Conniff's best!

If you like the 1970s sound of Ray Conniff then "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" is the one to get. It's Ray's BEST and MOST POLISHED album from the seventies. "Peaceful" and "The Right Thing To Do" are two of my favorite tracks. You also might find "Dueling Voices" quite good if you can somehow get yourself to stop thinking about the movie "Deliverance"- oink. Percy Faith's "Corazon/My Love" cd is a nice companion to this cd with many of the same songs covered.
Although Conniff's "Laughter in the Rain" album has an impressive track listing for the connoisseur of easy listening seventies music, the quality just isn't there, and consequently is unbearable to my ears.
Conniff's "I Can See Clearly Now" cd is a close second in quality to "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", and definitely worth pursuing.

At a time where almost all of Ray Conniff's CD collections earn very high ratings, this "two-fer" is an obvious "Five." These are some of Ray's most memorable and mellow seventies and eighties offerings, and well deserving of the true fan's attention and investment.

As Cyrus' new website proclaims, sweet and soulful, describe not only the man, but also this CD. This is a very accessible, enjoyable and innovative CD. Cyrus' arrangements of such classics as Precious Lord and You are My Sunshine are soulful, playful and invigorated. His original works on the CD, including Lighthearted Intelligence and Flipper, are inspired and technically astounding. This CD will be sure to bring a little sunshine to your day.

With special emphasis on the variety presented in this collection, this album has a broadness of scope that will appeal to anyone who appreciates the magic of the human voice.
McCormack was perhaps the most popular entertainer in the world during his career, comparable with the superstars of today, only richer in the currency of his day.
Though purists may have criticized his shift to the popular venue as opportunism, and perhaps desertion of his training in the classical tradtions, he was simply presenting what people wanted to hear. Whether he set a pattern of career management followed by modern entertainers or was simply happiest when the accolades flowed over him matters not. The talent and richness are his legacy to us.
His range and vocal dexterity are well illustrated and represented by this larger than usual collection, and anyone with a particular favorite tune in his rather loose genre will likely find it here.
After a journey through this collection, listeners may well gain another special melody or two for addition to their personal list of "best ever" songs and singers.
Although it may be considered a bit foolish, some will choose this album for only one or two tracks. Some call that trait wasteful, but when a jewel of performance is played again and again, the teardrop may fall once more, and the heart will thrill yet again.
This album will please many musical palates, even those who claim no special fondness for "Irish Tenors."

Perhaps I should start by admitting a bias: Many years ago, lying on Boston's grassy Esplanade by the Charles River on warm summer nights, I learned what a symphony orchestra should sound like, with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. Those concerts were free; these seven compact discs are not--not quite. But for any lover of light classical music, they are certainly one of the best buys available. The orchestra (essentially the Boston Symphony) is one of the world's greatest; the music, from Smoke Gets in Your Eyes to the Goyescas Intermezzo and Ride of the Valkyries is instantly enjoyable and permanently valuable; the conductor is at the same time genial and exacting, convinced that any music you play, no matter how frivolous, deserves the best you can give it. --Joe McLellan

Now, if you are a music-lover, and you like The Boston Pops & Arthur Fiedler. You should get it as soon as posible.

Definitly one of my favorite classical CD's....has a bit of everything, and it's all extremely well played and recognizable. I never go on car trips without it with me. If you buy only one classic CD (set), THIS IS IT!

When you think of classical music, Boston Pops and all-around-good listening...only one name rose above the rest ~ Arthur Fiedler! Not only did he have the best arrangements...but kept up with the times...everything from The Beatles, Gershwin, Henry Mancini, Carmichael, Stevie Wonder, Kern and Raksin...the list could go on...Fiedler brought classical into another dimension, before only the adults were the fans...with his imagination and personality...looked into the hearts of young Americans...and yes, you guessed it...won them over!

This CD is living proof...take a group of popular standards...Richard Hayman (arranger) and the rest will fall into place...Fiedler and the Pops give each tune life, exciting and beautiful melodies prevail...never before had such popularity with concerts and appearances, combining classical with tunes of today existed...but with the waving of his wan a new standard was born.

This recording is 1956 to 1974 performances...the entire 18 track selections are outstanding...leaving a rich legacy for all to enjoy now and years to come...this album is a rarity with you the music-lover in mind.
