Album Description

Shanice, formerly Shanice Wilson, is a Grammy nominated artist with #1 singles and gold albums to her credit. Boasting a five octave voice, it's good to know she's back on the music scene after a five year hiatus. She brings a more adult flavor to this new set of sexy songs. "Every Woman Dreams", is a solid blend that ranges from funky, uptempo grooves that feed the sexual palate, to beautiful full bodied ballads.

4 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT.......2007-01-09

THE FIRST 2 TO 3 SONGS ON THE CD I REALLY DIDN'T CARE ABOUT, OR SHALL I SAY I WASN'T FEELING IT. BUT THE REST I REALLY LIKE SHE GET TO THE POINT OF LETTING EVERYONE KNOW SHE LOVES HER MAN AND NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT AWAY. I GIVE THIS ON 4 STARS

5 out of 5 stars every woman dreams.......2006-11-18

really like this one cannot wait for her to put her next album out

3 out of 5 stars Shanice's Happiness.......2006-08-27

I'm not sure I can find words to describe how much I love Shanice's voice. Her voice is amazing, beautiful, rich and striking. If I was a record company owner, I would sign her under mostly any condition she wanted. That's how much I enjoy her voice. I have been a fan of hers her a very long time, and I've been anticipating her return for quite some time. "Every Woman Dreams" is her comeback album, after a 8-9 year absence from the music industry.

The first time I listened to "Every Woman Dreams", I was not impressed: I must not have given it a good enough listen because it is definitely a solid album. Anyone who listened to this LP would know that Shanice is a devoted wife and mother, and she REALLY loves her family. This album was basically written with them in mind. Shanice did write the material on this album, afterall. Although she wrote some nice words, her lyrics were at their pinnacle when Babyface wrote them. Coincidently, the song I liked least on this record was the one that was released first: the title track. I cannot get into that song. The production is almost unlistenable, Shanice sounds selfish and superficial, and the lyrics are corny. She's talking about how a woman needs to find a man who will buy her Gucci bags and diamond rings. "So Sexy" is a nice dance track. I like the production. The lyrics were alright, but this track overall is an album highlight. The most outstanding song on this album is by far "Forever Like A Rose". Most people who own this album are drawn to it, and I am no exception. Shanice sings this song with such passion and such strong emotion that whoever listens to it can just feel her and what she's attempting to convey. "Chocolate" and "Joy" are clearly about her husband, comedian Flex. "Chocolate" was an overall weak song, with weak instrumentation and corny lyrics, but "Joy" is quite the opposite. This is such a nice song, written just for the love of her life. Her voice is exercised greatly on this track. Speaking of which, Shanice covers Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" for a second time. She first did this song on her album, "Inner Child". On her more current rendition of "Loving You", her voice sounds more mature and her adlibs are a little different. She did a nice job, again.

I enjoyed this album overall. Shanice is one of the most underrated artists in the music industry. I hope that one day she becomes just as exposed at her contemporaries, because vocally, she can give them ALL a run for their money!

3 out of 5 stars Could Have Been Alot Better........2006-08-03

Im A Big Fan Of Shanice, But This Album Could Have Stayed On The Shelf. With This New Album Her Voice Has Matured Drastically More Powerful And Amazing Than Ever. But This Album Was Too Mushy For Me, Most Of The Songs We Less Than Mediocre,The Lyrics Were Tire Some, And The Production Was Wack. The Only Songs I Like Are Everywoman Dreams,So Sexy, And Take Care Of You. Shanice Didn't Use Her Voice To Her Full Capabalities On This Album, I Miss The Long Drawn Out Notes, And Belting Like She Did On Tracks Like Turndownthelights,The Way You Love Me, Etc. Also The Album Was Not Even Promoted.

3 out of 5 stars A True Disappointment.......2006-04-25

I was rather disappointment in this CD. I mean, its okay! Nothing special at all. I was expecting something.... more. Since Shanice was gone for so long, I thought she was going to "bring it." Instead the entire CD was "I'm so happy I got a man." The entire CD. Song after song, was the same thing. I forced myself to listen to the entire CD, hoping that she would be able to talk about something else. So, my advise is, borrow the CD from a friend.

You can hear the love and passion that Daryl Coley has for the LORD... This CD will bless your heart and cause you to have a closer walk with our Savior Jesus Christ...

5 out of 5 stars A closer walk with thee.......2004-01-22

On this particular cd, Daryl embraces us with very soft and sweet melodies that provides a more intimate relationship with God. It also presents yet another avenue of hope, peace, and assurance for the hungry believers of the word of God. This is definitely a cd that should never accumulate dust.

4 out of 5 stars Another strong set from Daryl!.......2001-07-17

This is a great album if for no other reason than the inclusion of the fantastic Kirk Franklin contribution "To Live Is Christ," a powerful song that features simply Daryl and a piano. But there's SO much more here!

"Blessed Assurance," "Try Me Once Again," "You Are My Melody," and "He That Dwelleth" are all masterpieces. The only song that is questionable is "God Is My Strength." It's not a bad song by any means; it just doesn't quite match the caliber of the other cuts. In addition, production values are not up to the usual standard, dulling the full potential of each song with a somewhat flat sound.

Atypical production values (for Daryl) aside, this album is an absolute TREASURE for Daryl Coley fans, as well as for anyone that digs light-jazz flavored gospel. Enjoy!!

From queen of the jingle to diva behind R&B's jazziest pop, Patti Austin, even in the winter of her career, is in possession of one of the clearest voices in contemporary pop music. Ostensibly a vehicle to interpret some of her favorite tunes from a mixed bag of traditions, Street of Dreams finds Austin proudly showing mentor Dinah Washington's imprint on smooth and seemingly effortless renditions of standards such as "The Look of Love," "Someone to Watch Over Me," and "I Only Have Eyes for You." While some of the newer material loses potency due to unfortunate sanitized and synthesized leanings, the aforementioned trio, along with the superlative slow-jazz title cut, rings out with nearly peerless class and flavor. She's still got it. --Paige La Grone

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars STREET OF DREAMS . . .PATTI AUSTIN EMBRACES OLD & NEW WITH CLASS (As Always)!!!.......2006-05-27

Trademark diversity in place, Patti Austin, vocalist extraordinaire starts set off with a generous re-thinking of the otherwise bland "The Look of Love". (Bacharach and David never had it soooo good!) She even helps breathe some life into the old standard "Street of Dreams", the title cut, but when "A Candle" (new song) takes off it is clear that we have yet another Patti Austin treat for the old mixed tape or CD burn. When Austin starts off singing: "...There's a sadness here inside my heart ..." we know it's "gonna be special". Singer, words, melody, and production are well-matched on this tune . . . music so so good . . . !

Her lovely serenading on "Someone To Watch Over Me" makes the listener sort'a long for an entire Austin-Gershwin recording, so sweet the marriage of melody, lyric, and voice.

Leave it to Austin to remind us so stylishly why "I Only Have Eyes For You" is a standard. Members of Colour Me Badd lend harmonies! Incredibly ROMANTIC; lush.

"For Once in My Life" takes on a new face with an uptempo, funky arrangment that soars into a scat menage sweeter than any so-called "jazz vocals" I've heard so far this year!

When Patti sings the much-recorded "Calling You", walls come down, curtains pull back, a new layer revealed . . . the desperation of the lyric becomes a siren song to lost loves.

Could "Waiting For You" be the singer's most subtly poignant vocals ever? "Beautiful" seems even an understatement when describing the wonders at work on this gem, and don't be fooled by the laid-back approach on Boz Scaggs' "Look What You've Done To Me". Several listens later you'll be getting something new from the song - just like this great Patti Austin album, which respects the old by blessing it ... anew!

4 out of 5 stars Street of Dreams..........2005-10-21

I must admit, I wasn't ready for the interpretation(s) that are contained on this album. At first, I was a little disappointed, then I listened to the album again, and again. It was 18 years between "Every Home should have One" and "Street of Dreams". Ms. Austin still has it (in droves!). I must hand it to her, she handles the material very well! Four stars!!

5 out of 5 stars Patti Houston the Singing Muse.......2005-09-02

Patti Houston is an angel in earthly disguise and certainly the CD "The Street of Dreams" is all about Patti Houston's inspiration from her mentor Ella Fitzgerald. Do not misunderstand me, I did not say that Patti Houston was imitating Ella, but what I did imply is that Ella and Patti have been blessed by the same spiritual muse, which is superbly done on the CD "The Street of Dreams". There is a pleasant and beautiful blend in Patti Houston's vocalization of the old and the new, but is the one original Patti Houston the muse of her own heart in singing vocalizations like
The Look of Love, Street of Dreams, til there was you, rain rain rain, performances done from the pure spirit of Patti Houston that wonderfully overpowers the listener with musical ecstasy. Spend the money on the album "The Street of Dreams" at any price, you will not regret it.

3 out of 5 stars Not all are worthy of her voice. . . . .......2005-07-25

Recently had a yen for Patti Austin, who I just adore. I've had the great pleasure of seeing her live a couple of times in New York and she is definitely one of the most versatile (and underappreciated) secret weapons in the recording industry. This album is the usual hodge-podge from Austin, laden with songs and arrangements that are very uneven and not always worthy of her great stylistic gifts. But take a listen to her tasty poppish update of the Brasilian pop-jazz standard "The Look of Love," the swooning, swinging big-band version of "Street of Dreams" and then the lush, heartbreaking ballad "Waiting for You" and you'll realize what's so special about Patti Austin--why her fans are so faithful. You might not want to pay full price for this CD, but I'd say the three aforementioned tunes make it a worthwhile purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Patti Austin "Street of Dreams".......2004-10-04

I first bought this album on tape znd wore the tape to shreds. The Look of Love what a perfect rendition, its far better than the original. My Favorite is Calling You .... Patti Austin delivers everytime.. I probably need to purchase an extra copy of this as I know I will wear it out....Enjoy.....

This is a great cd , IF you only want some interviews and additional history on Prince and his music. I don't know What another reviewer was thinking when he started comparing the background music on this cd to actual Prince songs when it sounds Nothing like Prince and besides it's all instrumental. NO New or Unreleased songs here!Like I said hardcore fans ONLY>

1 out of 5 stars Don't be scammed, there's only talking here, no music by Prince.......2005-09-14

Here's a quote from the CD case: "This is a spoken word product and contains no original music by the artist. It is not authorized by the artist, his record company or management."
The tracks might have a few seconds of Prince speaking from a interview and then a woman starts talking about Prince's career/life ups and downs. Every track is like that. If you want to hear someone talk about Prince and give you their opinion about his career and life then this CD is for you. If you want to hear music that only Prince can create then do not buy this.

Hopefully Prince will release a new album soon and again make the world a better place.

4 out of 5 stars Maximum?.......2004-12-16

1. Introduction - Nice speech including sample from alicia keys at hall of fame
2. Minneapolis Boy - nice funk number, sounds a little like Get Wild from Exodus
3. Breakthrough - uses emancipation drum beats. definitely groundbreaking like the combination of When Doves Cry n Kiss mixed
4. Purple Reign - This ballad has the full NPG orchestra. Inside the booklet, it even state that Prince sang with 8 different types of voices
5. The Prince Of Remote Control - The most crappy song here...even Tony M could rap better
6. Trouble At The Dream Factory - Bridge over troubled water type of song....very "Still Would Stand all Time" type of ballad, except sang in falsetto
7. Dark Times - Rework of Sign of the Times with brave lyrics
8. On The Way Back Down - This should be the first single !! This is his most expilcit song since 1998's mad sex...contains samples of Poom Poom
9. Neither Diamonds Nor Pearls - Its a Jazzy song about Chaka n Rosie as they are the opposite of both Diamond n Pearl
10. Outcast - very depressing song...it should be included in the Black Album
11. Musicologist - this instrumental outro is completely elegantly wasted

4 out of 5 stars Decent.......2007-04-27

You have to be a LLS fan to know of his work. This is a good 80's style relaxing blend of pop and "smooth" jazz. You will not hear this on the local radios which is a shame. Since the individual albums are out of print this is a reasonable deal.

5 out of 5 stars 2 decent albums together = 1 great album.......2002-04-25

Combining two of Smith's harder to find records, you get a double dose of his sweeping keyboard runs anfd fusion-defining work. When Smith opts to try and convert 70s club tracks into 70s fusion tracks, the effect is a little underwhelming, but his ballads and mid-tempo tunes are unmatched in their original time period. Grooving is balanced with a healthy dose of heart and passionate playing. Good chill-out stuff, and the origins of (good) smooth jazz.

A pretty good place to start with Lonnie, and at the price they're selling it, you really can't go wrong.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Breakneck Baritone.......2004-08-03

A lot of baritone sax-led recordings add a higher register woodwind or brass instrument to the front line to make the recording a little brighter. On this quartet recording, Pepper Adams proves that the baritone sax can front a piano/bass/drums rhythm section without the overall tone sliding into murkiness. Dexter Gordon's "Dexter Rides Again" opens the recording and on it Pepper Adams demonstrates how the allegedly cumbersome baritone sax can be just as versatile and bright-sounding as the other, lighter members of the saxophone family. Bassist George Mraz takes the first of several solos that are scattered thoughout this program. Most bassists only get a solo or two as a sideman, so it's a testament to Mraz melodic skills that he is called upon so many times to step up to the front on this recording. "Urban Dreams", a Pepper Adams composition, is a slow ballad that conjures images of dark streets, wet from recent rains and bathed in lamplight. Things occasionally get tense, but everything smooths out in the end.

"Three Little Words" starts off with a roar, then unexpectly falls into a loose loping swing featuring a short solo from Mraz. before drummer Billy Hart and Adams start trading fours in doubletime. After that, Hart rockets this number at breakneck speed. This is Hart's feature on the recording and he proves himself to be a highly kinetic drummer. The standard, "Time Is On My Hands", is taken at midtempo and features nicely melodic solos from pianist Jimmy Rowles and bassist Mraz. As Adams comes in with his solo he quotes from the song "Witchcraft" so effectively you'd think that was the song they were playing all along.

On Sonny Rollins' "Pent Up House" Adams proves how quick and responsive the baritone sax can be in the right hands. Except for the times when he plumbs the depths of the baritone's range Adam's solo sounds as though it were being played on a raspy tenor sax. Even at the quick tempo, there's no sluggishness from the baritone sax. "Trentino", another Adams original, changes from style to style, from ballad, to a walking bass swing, to a subdued bossa nova. It gives the listener a little bit of everything before the recording ends. A very satisfying recording and a must-have for all students and admirers of the baritone sax.

5 out of 5 stars Great Poetry and Jazz Composition.......2007-05-17

The previous reviewer unfortunately does not know the difference between folk music and Jazz. Sundiata mixes spoken word with some great jazz and vocals. Even when there is no music the cadence of his delivery is jazz. Space: A Monologue is like an Eric Dolphy sax solo in poetic form. Sundiata is more than just a great poet, he is a great performer of poetry. This is a great CD!

2 out of 5 stars Okay, but not a strong purchase.......2000-07-09

I think Sekou Sundiata is a great poet, and I think his attempts to meld poetry with music are brave. However, it's not a very entertaining record, and I haven't listened to it more than a few times, and only spotty-like at best. The folk-ish mood of the record isn't my style, and I can't safely recommend it to anyone who's into a lot of slam poetry or "Slam" the movie. It's more of a folk music record with poems on top of it, much like Carl Hancock Rux' weak record ("Rux Revue") is a blues/folk record with poems thrown on top of it.

If poets want to attract people to poetry, don't approach it from the stance that what you're doing hasn't been done "quite this way before", so much as "it might be different, but will people I'd like to reach dig it?"

I like his poetry, and found his monologue grand. But the stuff with music (the rest of the CD) just sits there on my shelf.

4 out of 5 stars Finding Gold in "The Blue Oneness of Sekou".......2000-05-10

I heard just one song off this cd on my local public radio station and it was enough for me to jot it down and seek it out. Very lyrical, very deep, very intimate, very political, very real. One of my two favorites, "Days Going By in Broken English" addresses with great wit the cultural changes going on just out of the corner of our collective eye. The sensuality of "A Kiss in Deep Time" touched me in a special place...and that's all I'll say about that. Sekou succesfully combines spoken word w/ Jazz. A great CD, looking forward to his latest.

5 out of 5 stars so good.......2000-03-06

i heard him read and i knew i needed to find out more about him. i bought this cd and was no less impressed. he's way more than just ani's teacher. his understanding of how the sound of words and their meaning work together is incredible. he is truly amazing. i'm buying the new one too.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most talented voices........1999-04-17

One of best in my collection, where's the next cd,been waiting for it ever since.

5 out of 5 stars And Urban Reality.......2000-11-16

The Network is down the the Core! They know, beautifully, what music will do for us. One listen to "I Surrender All" will convince you that surrender is the best choice -- for music that does wonderful things for our hearts. This is great music.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is great. It adds'70s smooth jazz with a '90s touch........1999-07-26

Ron Brown and company does a superior job of incorporating the '70s smooth jazz sound with a '90s style of play. In addition, he does an equally great performance of incorporating bebop with "smooth rap" on the track "All About Jazz". And if thats not enough, "Smiles for Miles" is modern advent-garde at its finest. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this release (Urban Dreams) is "off the hook". I highly reccommend adding it to your collection.
