Product Description
Dave Liebman’s New Vista is an extraordinary adventure. That, though, is what we have come to expect from Liebman, one of contemporary music’s true innovators. Although having just passed the half-century mark (Dave was born in 1946, in Brooklyn, NY), Lieb is playing with an intensity pulsing with youthful energies.

In the aptly titled New Vista, arguably Dave’s most accessible project to date, the inspiration comes in large part from Brazil. This, though, is not the bossa nova of your father -- or mother. Indeed, it’s an electro-Amazonian voyage into an exotic and rhythmically charged geo-musical hyperspace, a magical realm in which myth and dream dance with joyous abandon.

Abetting Liebman in fleshing out his Brazilian vision is the working group which has been with the soprano saxophonist since 1991. In fact, this is their seventh recording together. Comprised of guitarist Vic Juris, keyboardist Phil Markowitz, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Jamey Haddad, the Dave Liebman Group is a rarity these days, a band that has managed to stay together and therefore grow.

Indeed, these veterans of the hyperactive New York scene seem to "hear" and "see" with all five senses. With an ESP-like empathy refined through five years of focused research and development, Liebman’s band is an exemplar of musical simpatico. Solos and ensembles flow seamlessly from a common yet inspired source. Adding rhythmic ebullience is Cafe, the wonderful Brazilian percussionist whose accents and colors percolate throughout.

1 out of 5 stars Sounds like a cheap plastic toy.......2007-06-20

I have these DVD's and I can tell you that they will not be a huge part of my baby's development. I received them as a gift from someone that thinks that all you need to do is plunk your child in front of a TV all day without giving the baby any attention. You can see why these DVD's are popular at Day Care Centers or what I like to call, "Concentration camps for baby's with lazy parents", because they know that they can sit their kid/baby in front of the TV and let them turn into a thoughtless zombie while they listen to Baby Einstein totally ruin classics by Bach and DeBussy by playing the music with very cheap midi keyboards. I can get better quality music by whistling Dixie with a mouth-full of saltine crackers.

Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.

4 out of 5 stars would make you sleepy.........2007-06-15

its a good product with very fine music and my toddler realizes that it is sleep time, if I play it. he goes to bed and sleeps after a couple songs. I have trouble in some songs are some months.. dont know why.

4 out of 5 stars Kid's Music.......2007-06-08

I bought this CD for my grandniece, but after listening to it, I determined that no one would ever play this for her except me. I would have kept it for myself but I have the grown-up versions of each of the classical masterpieces on this CD. So, I ended up returning it for a full refund. If you want your kids to be exposed to classicl music, it's a great buy. But if you don't think they will get to listen to it, don't waste your time.

Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics

1 out of 5 stars Not soothing.......2007-06-07

These synthesizer versions of classical songs get really old, really fast. Worse yet, the songs are sometimes not soothing at all, especially the very first song. The song seems to get particularly loud and uptempo, which is precisely what you don't expect in a lullaby. Please listen to the sample of the first song at least before you buy.

4 out of 5 stars Great for bedtime, but wish it were a real piano.......2007-06-01

This CD worked great to put my daughter to sleep while I rocked her in my arms, and I enjoyed the choices of songs and the arrangements. However, I would have preferred that real instruments were used.

I love all of the Baby Einstein DVD's, so the music CD has been just as good as the DVD's. I play it all the time when my son is in the car and it seems to calm him and keep his attention. I even listen to it in the car when my son is not with me. It is relaxing and soothing. I definitely recommend the CD's for the car.

5 out of 5 stars Listen for a Moment.......2004-01-23

As is often the case with my albums, this is one of Elwood's earliest efforts. He is something of a mystery to me a s a person because he has always been removed as a performer, and has almost no presence on the web. But he is another of the New Age's guitar masters. He isn't an adventurer like Bensusan, but he is a finely controled fingerstyle musicion who demenstrated considerable skill within the boundaries of the traditional.

While traditional in terms of musicality, Ellwood is not bound into a particular tradition - he plays 'Ellwood' instead of Celtic or Basque, or any other sub-genre. While he uses ensembles, he generally takes the lead role, unlike John Doan, who will sometimes completely disappear from a piece of music. As in Holly's Song, where he shares the stage with both a flute and continuo instruments, he still rides over the texture of the other instruments. Since Ellwood has a very engaging style, this is nothing to complain about.

Stylistically, expect fairly slow tempo music with complex melodies and arpeggiation. There are usually accompanying instruments. The entire effect is quite rich, with a tendenciy to the contemplative. This album tends to get sorted to the back of my heap, where it is regularly rediscovered with a great deal of delight and a conscious reminder to myself to track down more of Ellwood's music, and settly down with a good book and a companionable cat.

4 out of 5 stars Thrown For A Loop.......2003-06-24

Heard this CD before I found out about the Joseph Diamond. He brings a totally different style to smooth jazz. This guy has a latin flavor to his keyboards that is hard to explain. I like it a lot and have already purchased his newest CD. I rate this CD very highly because it jumps off the beaten path and the adventure begins from there. Many customers like to stay on the safe side and won't take chances. I am different. You will not have to take a chance on this CD. I have done that for you. I recommend this CD

5 out of 5 stars A Favorite CD I come back to again and again.......2002-06-15

Take the sophisticated feel of New York Jazz, blend it with some hot latin grooves and you begin to understand the distinctive sounds created by Joesph Diamond.

How can a guy who grew up in Liberty, New York have so much salsa in his blood?

From the first track you will hear Latin Jazz Piano as it should be done. This CD quickly became a favorite and has stayed at the top of my personal music chart for a number of months.

Drummer Vince Cherico keeps the latin jazz feel moving forward. Leo Traversa on bass adds a solid foundation to the mix. A host of other talented artists contribute to achieve a sound that you don't just hear, you feel.

At the heart of it all is Joseph Diamond creating a perfect blend of rhythm, groove and melody that you'll find yourself humming later in the day.

I challenge you to get into your car, turn on "Not Your Typical New Yorker", and not start feeling better about life in just a few minutes.

5 out of 5 stars You had better be careful with this one!.......2001-07-26

This is a MUST-GET C.D. I have never had the pleasure of listening to a more subtle sounding album than when I first heard this one. If you are having a rough day, I suggest that you pop this baby in, hit the highway, and let it take you on a journey to a world of music appreciation!!

5 out of 5 stars UNBELIVABLE RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2000-10-04

Joseph Diamond is in a word FANTASTIC! His tunes are gorgeous, his playing is fiery and the record is so well produced it's just beautiful!! The music is complex but he makes it an effortless listen. This is THE Latin Jazz record. Period. He is so serious it's ridiculous. From first cut to last boyfriend is making BIG TIME MUSIC. If you are a fan of Latin Jazz and killer playing look no further.

5 out of 5 stars Ranks amongst the Finest, of Bill Laswells prolific albums.........2004-04-29

Bill laswell (the brains & Producer behind this Cd), has such a prolific output, and resurrects his various projects (Praxis, Material, Sacred system)every so often, that keeping track of them all is a daunting prospect. And coupled with the fact, that although Laswell has made many truly exceptional albums, there's also a fair amount of irrelevant albums to his name. Fortunately this is the former, but for what appears to be a `one-off' release, most people may be unaware of its existence, which is where this review comes in....

"Babylon Sync" performed by Laswell, is the sort of Dub-derived, space-funk, that earmarked both Laswell & Jah Wobble as accomplished multi-instrumentalists, heavy on bass guitar and organ with a minimal percussive rhythm underpinning the whole thing, it feels more akin to the slow cerebral world music / Ambient Dub voyages that Laswell/Wobble took us to, on their masterful "A Dub Transmission" album. Yet the following track "X-Zibit-I" following a similar path, but thanks to the inclusion of the "Sacred System" collective handling this track, the tempo is increased slightly, less focus on bass guitar is evident, and the prominent introduction of the `Tabla' instrument steers this far more into a fully focused almost meditative `Indian Percussion' track, that is as much beautifully textured instrumentation, as it is spiritually rhythmic in an almost trance like way, and it'll take a very cynical listener to not (at the very least) acknowledge the sheer skill of the instrumentalists performing here.

Possibly in a effort to give a range of diversity, and provide a rest bite from the contemplative speed of the previous tracks, "Praxis" drop the significant change of pace with the Experimental/ Avant-Garde Breakbeat / Hip-Hop of "Flux and Reflux" that proves to be a marvellous change of pace, with energetic Breakbeats speeding thorough, tight drum patterns, with a enthusiastically dominant turntable scratch routine layered over the whole track. The change in mood and track layout feel inspired, and sharply captures the listeners attention, the moment the track bursts into action. "Praxis" have long since impressed all with their unrestrained virtuosity and this track more than justifies such claims.

Quite possibly the most beautiful track on the album (and that's really saying something), is the incorporation of the flamenco guitar on the stunning "Nicky Skopelitis" performed "Sacrament", its inclusion here is unquestionably both utterly brilliant, but passionate in a way that only the flamenco guitar can be. It's a very slow moving track (almost ambient in its restraint), and becomes punctuated with bursts of subtle flamenco guitar, and its implementation so natural, that you have to wonder why more varied genres of music are missing its inclusion. Track #8 "Psyche", takes the temple with the Tabla percussion tracks early on in the album and completely runs away with it, with "Suphala's" Tabla arrangements so good, and so furiously paced and complex that not only is the Tabla work here comparable to someone like Tabla Virtuoso "Trilok Gurtu". This World Fusion & India level of percussion is a completely jaw Dropping in its own right, that it's just crying out for an album containing this musicians work. Lastly the "James Blood Ulmer" track "Momentarily" closes the album out perfectly, after the pervious tracks forays into, Funk, Experimental Rock, Avant-garde, this feels more conventional in its approach, being a sublime cocktail of Jazz-Fusion & Dub-rock, it's a curiously refined track after listening to the more avant-garde nature of some of the other tracks, but no less accomplished and beautifully played, and brings the album to a more than truly satisfying close.

If you can find this album, then I implore you to do so, the fact that your reading this review, more than likely means your either a Bill Laswell fan (or a fan of one of his many Side-projects), and probably have a fair idea of what to expect, and are more concerned as to 'How good the album is??'. Well, the simple answer is "Yes" is really is deserving of 5 stars and is as worthy as his best work, but.....it should be noted that this feels more like a sampler for his various projects and thus the album doesn't set with one mood throughout the album and refine it, instead it jumps from Tabla Percussion to Experimental Rock, skittering Breakbeats with Scratching the next, and if the idea of such stylistic jumps in musical genres all sounds a bit much, your probably better off given this one a miss. But if such minor quibbles are irrelevant and you do have a truly eclectic ear (and to be honest, if you're a Laswell, Wobble & Co fan, it's more than likely) than providing you can find a copy, this ranks with their finest releases.

4 out of 5 stars Very Creative and Organic Concepts in Drum & Bass.......2003-01-06

I was in the electronic section in the store when I ran across this cd and was attracted to it for no reason so I bought it blindly. Overall a great mix of dynamics that bleeds global genres with drum & bass to create a very richly textured cd. James Blood Ulmer is a-m-a-z-i-n-g as with most of the talent. I like the fact that these artists weren't afraid of things like Rock and blues mixing. Approach this cd with an open mind and I guarentee it will grow on you.

        Album Description
