A spectacular follow-up to Volume One in this instrumental series featuring 15 songs that have never been on a U.S. CD before. But this set isn't just for collectors, but also for listeners. All recordings have been digitally mastered from the original master tapes & are in True Stereo wherever possible. Includes a full 8-page booklet with detailed liner notes on each song.

    3 out of 5 stars A Slight Innacuracy.......2007-06-13

The version of "Nadia's Theme" (Theme from The Young and the Restless) isn't actually the one you're expecting. I believe it's actually the original arrangement made for "Bless the Beasts and the Children". So what later became the Young and the Restless theme (the one that was a hit) still remains unreleased on CD.

Hopefully, we can see that version on a future release. Maybe they could get "Little Ballerina Blue" on one while they're at it.

    Still, some great stuff here.

The purchase went as we had hoped. The delievry was as promised, and the quality of the product equal too, or above our expectations.

3 out of 5 stars Not totally an instrumental.......2006-03-10

I was excited to find this album. I bought it but was horrified to find a loud vocal on the first track. The rest of the music is all instrumental but this one track simply JARS you when it plays. Very disappointing!

5 out of 5 stars Another Collection You Wonr Find Anywhere else.......2003-05-06

Well, ERIC records has done it again.

Continuing their unique practice of giving us both well known hits and impossible to find rarities, Eric presents Volume 2 of "Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals". This one is, in my opinion, even better than the first.

First off, the sound quality of this disk is ASTOUNDING. ERIC has gotten the various reissue departments to provide them with absolute first generation mono and stereo masters and this CD proves it. The aural quality is breathtaking. The fact that Orchestral music is so beautifully suited for true stereo playback is exhibited here, as a whopping 15 of the 20 tracks are True Stereo and sound magnificent.

There are, of course, the big soundtrack hits here, like 'The Day The Rains Came" "Rocky", "Ben Casey", "Theme from The Apartment", and " Nadias Theme". All top 30 and well remembered. However, for this 43 year old fan, it was the some of the lessor known tracks, in particulatr the 1963 Colpix low level charter "Theme From The Long Ships" that really makes this collection the gem that it is. Outstanding tracks include "Theme From The Sundowners" , "The Dark At The Top of The Stairs" and "I Will Follow Him" , all tracks that will suddenly sound familiar again after first listen.

Therein lies the BEST part of this collection. When you put this on your player, you will be treated to a nostalgic feast,
a time when the magic of Orchestral music still ruled the charts, and existed in all our homes. And you'll certainly remember most of these once you hear them, which is the fun part!!

There arent enough great things I can say about this collection AND its sister CD "Hard To Find pop Instrumentals- Part 2" I personally liked this volume better, but if you dont have either yet, give yourself a musical treat, and some REAL listening enjoyment and pick these up...

Its listening the way it used to be.

    5 out of 5 stars Perfect.......2007-03-19

99 out of 100 people dont know who these people are, i'm glad i do. Get out of the city has the most casually catchy guitar riff i may have ever heard. There is a slight meloncholy that runs throughout the album, like a beauitful girl alone in her apartment looking out the window at the city below, thinking about life. I am taking a guess that's why they named it apartment life. To write 12 songs expressing 12 sides to a single topic, pretty cool.

3 out of 5 stars good but not great.......2006-10-29

This is breezy, over produced pop power/pop music. The singer has a unique voice which does make the songs sound interesting but it also casts a similar sound for all of the songs.

One thing this is not is an extention of "Fountains of Wayne".

This is a good cd with a lot of quality songs. Most of the tunes have an upbeat, happy vibe.

My favorite song is "Baker" since it is the most distinguishable song. It is slow tempo with a very beautiful horn riff that practically serves as the chorus. "Ba Ba Ba" is the hardest rocker and has almost a Car's feel to it. Very new wavish!

"The Best thing" "I've got a feeling" "This is the day" and "I get the message" are highlights.

This is a good work but cannot be considered a masterpiece. Every song is a 3 minute, wispy, breezy song with the French-accented lyrics.

When I first got it I did listeneto it a lot but I have not placed it into my cd player in a about 4-5 years.

When a greatest hits compilation comes out, it will be worth getting.

2 out of 5 stars These reviews have me puzzled..........2006-08-13

I was a big fand of Schlesinger/Fountains of Wayne, so when this CD first came out (on Atlantic Records, at the time) I was really eager to hear this CD. Needless to say, I really found this monotoned loungish-pop record to be a total disappointment. I had difficulty even getting through the entire disc in one sitting! One word comes to mind: dull. Not recommended!

    5 out of 5 stars Remarkable music.......2005-01-07

Absolutely remarkable album - one of the first I have heard in a long, long time that I loved from the very first listen (was inspired to purchase it after catching a brief snatch of 'Thinking of you" at the end of Shallow Hal). Each and every piece is a classic, amazing that IVY haven't received more airplay over here (Ireland)

5 out of 5 stars pleasing sounds found here.......2004-12-22

What saddens me about being a fan of this type of pop music is that I live in the US and I'll never be able to hear any of my favorite bands on the radio. In fact the only time I've heard Ivy outside of my place and my car was while I was waiting for my girlfriend who was shopping at some boutique, (this did make me question my choice of music, but only for a fleeting second). In Apartment life, the sweet sound of Dominique's voice flows seamlessly over the wonderfully created pop songs with an air of indifference. Ivy ranks up there with Saint Etienne, and Belle and Sebastian as my favorite pop groups, and this CD is a good one to get if you're at all interested in their wonderful sound. Maybe one day the relentless teen pop that comes streaming towards me from the tv and the radio will one day ebb in a moment of bliss as people realize that there are other facets of pop music out there. Until then, I'll just bide my time and listen to my Ivy at home and in the car; and when it's played as I patiently wait in the boutiques, I'll smile and tap my shoe.

5 out of 5 stars Endearing Collection of Montovani Film Music.......2006-09-28

This is a very good collection of Montovani film music. These recording are so soothing and pleasing to the ear. Most impressive are Montovani's versions of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is incredibly beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Movies and Mantovani Make Magnificent Musical Memories. .......2005-04-18

In this year in which fans celebrate Mantovani's 100th birthday, another excellent British compilation of some of the great maestro's original recordings has been released. The tracks on this CD come predominantly from Mantovani's 1957 bestselling LP, Film Encores, his 1959 Film Encores Volume 2, and his 1967 LP entitled "Mantovani/Hollywood." Up until now, the six tracks from the Hollywood LP have been the most difficult to find on CD in locations other than Japan, and it includes Monty's exciting arrangements of the themes from Zorba the Greek, the Magnficent Seven, Lawrence of Arabia, and You Only Live Twice. While these alone are worth the CD price, the remaining selections comprise the very best of Mantovani's film music library, including Unchained Melody (now better known as the theme from the movie "Ghost"), April Love, the theme from The Apartment, and Charlie Chaplin's Limelight. Attentive Mantovani fans will hear the inclusion of a less heard variation of the "golden hit" Moon River in which the maestro replaced the trumpet solo with the soprano sax in a later recording of this forever popular number. Sooner or later, and we hope sooner, everything recorded by the original orchestra led by the incomparable Mantovani will appear on CD. That is a just and fitting tribute to the most popular light orchestra leader in the 20th Century whose music will live on and will be heard to delight fans all over the world in the 21st.

5 out of 5 stars More artistic then metal, but rightly executed..........2006-01-16

This album is by far one of the most fun album's I have in my collection now. Granted, I was expecting something a little heavier, but it seemed like they just decided to do what felt right to them this time around and had a ton of fun with it. It completely satisfied my ears through and through.

It's just one of those albums where you are just kinda down in the dumps and you want something to cheer you up but don't want to look weird driving down the street listening to Weird Al or something, so you keep your street cred. and throw in your "Music For The Massive" CD.

I highly recommend it, if you have an expandable mind outside of just pure metal and can appreciate the artistic value of using instruments aside from the typical low distortion guitar and blast beats on the drums. Guaranteed to put you in a good mood!

2 out of 5 stars Drawn by the radio.......2005-08-28

I was moved to buy the album by their amazing song, "Give Me More" which is a fun and energetic swing song. When the CD arrived, I played the whole thing and didn't like it very much...then I played it again...and still I didn't like it.

Nothing aside from the first song seems to be at all catchy. All I remember now is that I didn't like much of it at all.

I'd suggest somehow hearing the whole album before you buy it yourself (unless you don't mind paying the hefty $3 used prices) in case you don't end up liking it. Your tastes might be different than mine...

      4 out of 5 stars A giant step forward.......2005-03-15

This CD really surprised me when I hesitantly approached it. After being disappointed by Hallucinating, Music for the Massive really struck me as a huge creative step for the band. Extremely eclectic and surprisingly fun (even funny), Music for the Massive shows Apartment 26 branching out into numerous musical realms and shows that they can write songs that don't all sound the same (see Hallucinating) while still keeping it heavy.

1 out of 5 stars Absolute poppy garbage!.......2005-02-12

Apartment 26 showed a great deal of promise with their previous album. They revealed a blend of industrial, techno, and electronica that was at times dramatic and at other times pensive and thought provoking. This new release lacks the punch, originality, and entertainment value of the first, instead trading for radio friendly poppy/hip hop style trash. If you are looking for a rehash of what you hear on the radio over and over again buy this album. If you were a fan of the first don't bother with this one.

      5 out of 5 stars Very awesom/Very different.......2004-12-31

Thsi whole Cd is veryyyyy awesome.Especially track 2....88. They also kick @ss in concert too. If your wantin something different and not sounds the same as every other band....GET THIS ALBUM!!!

5 out of 5 stars If you like the Funk and a good vibe, you NEED this CD.......2007-04-11

"You Make me Feel" (Track #3 on this CD) is playing as I type this review, and I feel bad for anyone who hasn't heard this album. Huge rays of sunshine are blasting through my speakers, and I can hear Prince and Stevie Wonder and Sly & The Family Stone calling out, begging all the world to enjoy the hot funk and jazz vibe of this unrecognized masterpiece.

Please, buy this album and share it with someone you love. You'll never forget the day.

5 out of 5 stars More than Funk, its great music.......2005-04-17

I followed DAG when they were together to several live performances and they were fantastic live and I really miss seeing them, that being said, I would like to say that this CD is great. I still listen to it often. There is nothing like it on the radio today. It is fun and funky and written and performed very well. Listen for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Dag is slippin.......2004-08-09

Yeah and then they slipped right off the map.
This one was not as good as the first for quite a few reasons.
First of all the songs lost a lot of that devotion that you could feel in the first release, seemed to me like Dag wanted to drop this one on the masses for the simple sake of keeping the band alive.
Unfortunately that's not how funk works, maybe pop rock, but not funk.
The thrill is gone and there are only 2-3 songs that are even worth your time on this disk, although I must having seen them play this set live was a completely different experience they had the whole house jumpin and shakin, but the disk just doesn't capture that groove.
It's kinda like a flat jerry curl on a China man, you just kinda sit there thinkin... "what the...?"
The thick bass is still there and the keyboards have gotten a bit better but the guitarist seems to have polished his pick ups and the vocalist comes through with a bit more polish.
Well some would think this was a good thing but for those of us that dig the Junkyard funk this one just kinda dissapoints.

World Spinnin, Shine and Supercollider are worth a listen, the rest probably won't hold your attention for to long though.

4 out of 5 stars Original, which makes it good.......2003-08-17

I saw this band live once, and they are very good. Although, I'm not sure they still exist, this is album that I thoroughly appreciated because it was something new and different.

5 out of 5 stars Please don't dismiss this positive review-have an open mind.......2003-05-05

I'm a professional jazz guitarist. I love this cd. I wouldn't call DAG funk, although they're definitely funk influenced. I understand why funk purists wouldn't like it...I'd say Dag was more influenced by disco than James Brown or George Clinton. They basically sound a lot like some Prince. The lyrics on the album don't make sense; in a lot of ways this music might be too campy for some people's taste, so unless you have a very open mind stay away. To criticize Dag for being white is racist, ignorant and stupid. First of all, from what I can tell from a picture of the band there are black members as well as white. Secondly, I really don't think they're trying to prove anything about race. Thirdly, though I love alot of black musicians, as an experienced musician and someone who owns over 2000 records and is familiar with about 1000 others, I know very well at this point that being black is hardly a requirement for making good music, regardless of the style. However, if I thought that the goal of these musicians was to sound black, in any way, I would find it offensive. In defensive the poor guitarist, I think he's GREAT! He's got wonderful sound and he really swings...the keyboard sounds amazing too.
I love this prince and I like this album better than any of my prince cds, certainly not because it's more original, but because it's got AWESOME energy and dynamics, it's VERY elaborate, the arrangements are very tight and the whole band is in the pocket all the way through. This band is undeniably good, despite what some musical bigots think.

3 out of 5 stars How can you resist wanting to hear new songs from MMO'H?.......2004-08-22

If you're a fan of MMO'H and always wanted her to make a follow-up to Miss America, then this album is for you, with some reservations. This soundtrack album was recorded on the cheap; the liner notes tell of Mary Margaret and friends (many of the same players from Miss America, including guitarist Rusty McCarthy) jamming free-form while the movie was projected on the wall. I wish I could have been there to see it!

There are a few songs here that are as good as anything that appeared on Miss America, especially Was You, Have You Gone (terrific, near-operatic wailing from Mary here), and the heartbreaking I Don't Care. Most other songs have the experimental feel of free-form jazz sessions, all of which are interesting and some are quite funny: in Scary Latin Love Song, MM "scats" lustily with a phony Spanish accent over a flamenco beat; on Chez Le Nez Suite she does more scatting but with a faux French accent; Never Came Back Again starts out as a bluesy romp, then MM dives mid-way through into vocal expressions that sound like she's imitating Elvis imitating Bjork (that's the best way I can describe it, anyway). The gorgeous Rain is all wordless vocalizations, and is one of the prettiest songs I've heard from her.

A few caveats for those who are thinking of buying this CD. If you are expecting a fully-formed "singles" type collection, you might be let down a little bit. The production quality is low, though the players obviously made the most of what they had to work with. Also, this CD is hard to find - the prices here on amazon are a bit high, but good luck finding it in a used record shop.

But anyone who loves Mary Margaret will definitely want this - just hearing her expressive, beautiful voice on some brand-new songs is a real delight. I just wonder if these sessions inspired her enough to want to make another studio album, the real follow-up to Miss America that I'm still waiting for ...

4 out of 5 stars If you liked Miss America, then you'll probably like this........2004-05-16

This is a soundtrack to a movie and as such had different requirements than just producing a set of songs that all fit as a coherent whole. But if you like the vocal stylings of Ms. O'Hara then get this CD. There are quite a few outstanding songs that equal the best found on Miss America. I bought the movie as well and didn't expect much of it. I was surprised, the movie is pretty funny and worth a rental. Problem is renting is out of the question unless you live in Toronto. It has practically no distribution that I could find outside of one DVD/CD store in Toronto.

This slightly altered version of Ivy's 1997 instant classic of savvy semi-lounge pop keeps its virtues--Dominique Durand's breathy vocals, the winsome tunefulness, its lyrics' meld of wistfulness and resoluteness. The changes come in a handful of reworkings that seem designed largely to make the tracks more suited to radio's demands; fans of the earlier versions might prefer them, but the cranked-up drums on "The Best Thing" and changes in "I've Got a Feeling"'s guitar line hardly hurt the songs' charm. Apartment Life remains one of the late '90s' finest melds of mainstream and indie sensibilities. --Rickey Wright

        Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Lush and listenable.......2005-07-20

A perfect CD for summer, a night out, or a rainy day.

Full of great songs highlighted by simple yet amazing rhythms and Dominique Durand's voice.

Ivy shine at the mid to uptempo stuff. The highlight track has got to be "I Get the Message", a three minute pop gem. Strengths are "The Best Thing", "You Don't Know Anything" and the summery mid tempo tracks "Quick Painless & Easy" and "I've Got A Feeling".

Some of the slower tracks don't work quite as well for me, still "Apartment Life" deserves a wider audience.

        5 out of 5 stars Undertow.......2003-04-11

I heard Undertow on one of the Ultra Chilled CDs. It is a gorgeous song....the perfect backdrop for a chick surfer movie!!!

        5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......2002-11-13

Ivy has become one of my favorite listens. This is really probably their best CD but Long Distance is also excellent. The biggest compliment I can pay this CD is that it has not left my car CD player for a long time. I've got lots of CD's to play and a very short attention span so staying on the platter is a major feat.

Apartment Life is less "cutesy" than Long Distance and while it is still basically pop music (whatever that means), there is a depth to it that transcends the obvious. Like clear warm water, the depth of the music is not apparent from its transparency. Ignore the fact that one song was used in "Something About Mary" - it just means that the producers of that movie found some good music.

While Guest Room still leaves me uninspired, I have to give my highest recommendation to this CD and to a slightly lesser degree Long Distance. While pop music is not normally raised to this level there are other examples, most notably to me Todd Rundgren's music, where it can achieve extraordinary heights by being that tune - or here tunes - that keep you moving through life.

        3 out of 5 stars A VERY NICE APARTMENT.......2001-10-20

Buoyant soft indie-rock glides smoothly under the lilting euro-lounge vocals of Dominique Durand, a 90s Claudine Longet-like spoken breath singer. "Apartment Life" sounds like a day in one's apartment staring out the window musing about the cat on the sill and the meaning of life. "Get Out Of The City" is a catchy pop melody hopefully escaping a stillborn psyche and "Back In Our Town" is a haunting three part vocal that adds an ominous tone to this otherwise breezy scene.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant sophomore effort.......2001-08-30

Hmmm, let's see, I think I played "The Best Thing" about 863 times soon after buying this album. That's the power of that song. One of the greatest opening tracks ever... But the whole album is filled with other excellent tracks - in fact the last four tracks are some of their BEST work, especially "Get Out Of The City". Many people new to Ivy may recognize "This Is The Day" from "There's Something About Mary" soundtrack. Ivy has always been able to shift gears and moods with songs almost effortlessy. One minute a song may make you bop around the room and the next have you contemplating a broken relationship. This band has has great hooks and melodies up the wazoo. Ivy knows a thing or two about classic pop song structure and the music world is all the better for it.
