Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Skaff deserves wider recognition.......2006-03-14

Greg Skaff is a bluesbased bopplayer of world class that deserves a much wider recognition..he deserves 6 stars
for groove and feeling.Skaff spent some years playing in Stanley Turrentines group.I can hear that he is for sure influenced by Grant Green and but he plays more linear so there are other influences as well.. Wes Montgomery is one of course but Skaff swings in the same obvious way that Green did.Although Skaff plays very modern,,the blues is not far away..he has that "grease" in evrything he plays.
Mike Ledonne on B3 is just that perfect backup..Ledonne reminds quite a bit of Larry Goldings..but has a more boppish approach

Some higlights would be

Blues For Mr T... a shuffle dedicated to Stanley Turrentine,,one of the grooviest shuffle I ever heard

Isfahan...Ellingtons beautiful ballad..

Poundcake..Skaffs own funky tune

I am looking forward to more records by Skaff ...

Also contains a vocal-bass rendition of "It Don't Mean a Thing" and a few other rarely recorded Ellington tunes.
