About the Artist
Sam Levine is known for his tender and heartfelt renditions of contemporary hits. Sam has been featured in live performances with such superstars as Whitney Houston and Al Jarreau, has recorded with Michael McDonald, The Neville Brothers, and Amy Grant, and has contributed musically to such motion picture soundtracks as Honeymoon in Vegas and Sweet Dreams. He currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife, Lee, and their children, Sybil and Reed.

An unreleased version of "Nice 'N' Easy" and "If You Are But A Dream" (never-before commercially available on CD) complement the collection. Also included is "Try A Little Tenderness" made famous by Otis Redding and covered by Michael Buble.

"The Voice" is simply at his best on this CD. You'll find some lesser known hits here like "At Love Last Love" that will become your favorites. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who appreciates a time when singers could sing and songs had melodies.

Sinatra. I need to ask you for forgivness. I used to think you and your kind of music are so outdated, dead and buried. Ever since I got into Buble's standards album, a whole new world was opened to me. Amazing, how the mind and heart work. I feel like I had been deaf to this music all those years.

This is a beautiful album, a feast for your ear, heart and soul. Don't miss this gem.

I would choose....Magical sounds as only "The Chairman Of The Board"
can deliver. Music from his Capital record years.....When a revival

Andre Rieu brings a warmth and pop-like aire to his music.Here he plays popular music with a classical orchestra and adds his special ingredients to it ie:humor (musical jokes for the serious listener),fun,light-heartedness.It's a band of very talented musicians having alot of fun as is evident in the playing and especially if you've seen them in concert.I can "hear" the smiles on their not serious faces by their style of playing...less staccato and with more feeling.Andre and company swing and dance through every track climaxing on Ravel's Bolero from the movie "10".

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

It's a credit to James Darren that he can record an album that so clearly owes a great debt to Frank Sinatra yet still sounds fresh. The former early-'60s teen idol is best known these days as Vic Fontaine, a virtual Rat Pack-type crooner who appears on the holodeck of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and these swinging standards were all performed on that show. (He thus follows in the footsteps of Next Generation's Brent Spiner, who recorded a Sinatra-esque album in 1991 entitled Ol' Yellow Eyes Is Back.) Darren, whose voice is a closer match to Tony Bennett's than to Sinatra's, is supported by an excellent orchestra, a cast of A-list arrangers including Alan Broadbent, Sammy Nestico, and Marty Paich, and a top-to-bottom collection of great songs. DS9 fans would do well to grab this right away, as would all fans of this timeless style of singing. --David Horiuchi

I know some reviews are ripping into this cd because it's not as good as Sinatra. That's not the point of this cd. This cd is for the Deep Space: Nine fans who miss the show. Listening to the songs, I think back to the episode and what the characters were doing during that music. A great collection of songs from the show plus a few others from that era.

A great gift for the DS9 fan in your life.

I loved the character of Vic Fontaine! I think it was brilliant to have a crooner assist the DS9 crew as they dealt with the Dominion War. Putting that aside, though, this CD reminded me of a delicious blend of Tony Bennett and Mel Torme! I love crooners and "The Best is Yet to Come" is my favourite song of all time. Darren does an excellent job with the song, infusing it with his smooth upbeat style. I am glad that James Darren is making a bit of a comeback through DS9. In some ways, this is a great lesson for ST fans: to make a better future, we do need to enjoy and learn from the past. These songs are fresh, new and hopeful. A great CD for these war-torn times.

    Straight from the Heart has been my introduction to Patrice Rushen. I fist read about her in a Prince fansite. So, curiousity took the best of me and I listened to a few audios in the web. At that point, I decided to search for any of her CDs that I could find. This is the only CD I found in a brick-and-mortar store. Patrice is so talented in many genres like funk, R&B, and jazz. The sweet and silky voice she has is very relaxing and has this aura of confidence.

    One of the most flawless albums of the 80s, Patrice Rushen branches out every which way to make an artistic statement, and passes with flying colors on every count. 80s disco (Forget Me Nots, Breakout!), sensuous balladry (Remind Me, Where There Is Love) and the jazzy instrumental "Number One" tie together for an intoxicating experience that will likely remain fresh 50 years from now.

    Patrice Rushen is a genious and this album Straight From The Heart is a must have classic. Of course the unforgettable Forget Me Nots is here but it seems as every song is unforgettable. From All We Need to the magnificent Remind Me to the incredible Where There Is Love, Patrice Rushen keeps the jams comin. And if you REALLY want to jam just put on that Number One, a very great instrumental that keeps you movin. Patrice Rushen was one of the greats that got lost in the shuffle even though her songs are easily recognizable. I'd advise anybody who loves great music to go get this album ASAP! You won't be disappointed trust me! Masterpiece

    I enjoyed this cd to the max! Just took me back to the days when I had the parachute pants, Jheri Curl (Which probably explains my baldness today!), and sported Vans (checkerboard shoes)! Patrice would come on and the block party would go nuts!!!

      Want to know what Eric Reed is all about, and what's in his heart, listen to "I'll Never Stop Loving You." If that's not enough, try "Flamenco Sketches" and understand why Miles would likely be proud.

      This is one of those cds that stands out. Wow! When I look at my whole collection of cds (3,000+) there are very few that really seem significant. Oh! there are one or two songs on a lot of these cds that I really like, but not 8 out of 10 songs that really appeal to me, like in this case.

      Eric is a hidden trasure! I just stumbled onto him. I have one other cd by Eric. It is not as good as this offering. He tried to improvise too much on the other cd.

      I am thrilled about odering more of Eric's work. He has a new one that is a tribute to his late father. It is solo piano and gospel. What a combination!

      Please buy Eric's cd "From My Heart".

      Eric Reed's performance and arrangements are both delicate and sumptuous, reflective and passionate. I haven't followed jazz for a few years, but this is the album to bring me back. He's a wonderful talent and a REAL pianist who is able to infuse classic jazz motifs with a contemporary sensibility. Wonderful!

      Eric Reed is one of the most gifted young pianists around, and this album proves it. His piano playing is both techinally masterful, yet also encorparates wonderful serentic and romantic moods during every song in the album. It is definately worth the buy. Reed's genius as an arranger should also be credited and applauded. Standouts of the album include the "Prelude in E minor" which incorporates Jobim's "How Insensitive" and Monk's classic ballad, "Round Midnight." This album is wonderful on all accounts and is not worth missing. Buy it!

      5 out of 5 stars A Joyous, Straight Ahead Blowin' Set.......2007-05-12

      I bought this c.d. before taking a road trip to Elko, Nv. and Salt Lake City, Ut on I-80 east. It is the perfect c.d. to drive 90 m.p.h. with.

      Recorded live in 2001 at the Blue Note in NYC but not released until more than 5 years later, this is a wonderful blowing session (coincidentally, like many old albums on the "Blue Note" label). Grady Tate sounds great, especially for a septuagenarian. His voice quality reminds me a lot of Lou Rawls', and he can still get to the notes he needs to get to with solidity.

      This is a set of uptunes, essentially. There is an infectiousness in the air that got to all the musicians involved. The solos sound great (especially pinaist Charlap's on "Little Black Samba", and trumpeter Drews' on "Everybody Loves My Baby"), and Mr. Tate sounds in great humor.

      My favorite on this set is "All Blues." After a chorus (I believe of Jon Hendricks' lyrics), the song morphs into Basie's "Every Day I Have the Blues" (also Hendricks' lyrics); then a 12-bar improv. that sounds like something Buddy Guy or Brownie McGhee might sing, over Miles' modal chords; then "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay"; then Grady's lament that he's lost everything (even his drugs!!), and not even Jay (Leonhardt, his bassist on this date) will be his friend; then a cool Leonhardt solo; and then a scat obligato that sounds like a helium balloon with the air let out. Cool, cool, cool.

      And the set ends with the hippest sounding "I Got the World On a String" I've ever heard.

      Grady Tate is a well-known jazz session drummer who became a vocalist relatively late in life, and is not particularly well known as such. He deserves more recognition. C.d.'s like this are a joy to the ears. RC
