About the Artist
Harmoniously Wail seamlessly blends an eclectic array of styles - Django Reinhardt inspired jazz, Eastern European gypsy swing, American jazz standards, and contemporary folk - to create their own distinctive sound.
It's Jethro Burns' fault, says Harmonious Wail founder and leader Sims Delaney-Potthoff of the band's unique, enticing style of mandolin-heavy gypsy-jazz. For seven years Sims studied with Burns, the legendary jazz mandolinist, laying the foundation for Harmonious Wail's acoustic string sound. He furthered his studies at Boston's Berklee College of Music, honing his skills while immersing himself in the gypsy music of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli (Sam Bush, Dan Hicks, Lester Young, David Grisman, and Louis Armstrong are also on his list of musical heroes). He founded Harmonious Wail in 1987.
Vocalist Maggie Delaney-Potthoff is a captivating performer. Equally at home scatting over a bebop tune, soaring on a solo, or blending with the Wail's tight vocal harmonies, she delivers both powerhouse tunes and ballads with confidence and ease. Her sensual, sinuous movements (a product of her background in dance and theatre) and her use of a cardboard box as a drum (played with brushes) add to the charm she exudes onstage.
Supplying style and proficiency on guitar and lending vocal support with his marvelous harmonies, Tom Waselchuk contributes a contagious passion for music to Harmonious Wail. He also brings with him 23 years of professional musical experience
much of it spent in the company of mandolinist Sims Delaney-Potthoff. Their friendship and musical collaborations date back to 1979 when they co-led the Stone Oak Bluegrass Band. In 1986, the two founded the Full Count Jazz Band, a sextet that performed regularly in Madison's premier jazz clubs as well as showcases such as the Isthmus Jazz Festival. And in 2001, Tom once again teams with Sims to lend their longtime camaraderie to Harmonious Wail.
John Mesoloras' powerful, rock steady and energetic stand-up bass playing lays the foundation for the Wail's groove. The Chicago native, who sites Ray Brown, Dave Holland, Charlie Haden, Edgar Meyer as musical influences, moved to Wisconsin in 1993. A versatile bassist who performs on both the electric and double bass, John has played in a variety of settings including the Madison Jazz Orchestra, The Beloit-Janesville Symphony, The Ray Rideout Quartet (Hard Bop Jazz), and Lisa G. and Montage (R&B Soul). John has also performed abroad, including the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands.
Product Description
You'll be smiling from the moment this CD starts to play. The swinging beat is infectious, and the overall feel is that of a bunch of friends who truly enjoy playing music together. It is strangely reminiscent of Frank Zappa's celebrated and just as jazzy "Mother of Invention." If this CD doesn't set your toe to tapping and a smile on your face, you should probably get medication.--Cheryl Scott, Folk and Acousic Music Exchange

Hey all the way.....we run everyday.......2007-05-28
Served 4 years in the Army and it brings back so many memories from basic training,AIT and perm duty station.Very motivating....especially if you remember that last two miles and you heard the cadence "Going home.." somehow it gave an additional "umph" to continue and not fall out of the run.
"Double-Time!!"
Does it's job.......2007-01-09
Put it on my MP3 player for running. It did the job, keeping me at a steady pace. I highly recommend it. It was motivating and often funny. What would be my ideal? Cadence set to motivating music with a steady pace and no dips or pauses.
Airborne!.......2006-04-07
Brings back sureal memories. Made me want to find some old friends. Great for running. You can almost feel like you're there again.
Run to Cadence W the U.S. Army Airborne.......2006-04-07
This CD is a great for working out. It reminds me of m "glory" days while at airborne school and motivates me to work harder. Its provides an almost surreal experience as you can visualize running in formation four abreast.

D.I.: "I don' know, but I think I might--!"
YOU: "I don' know, but I think I might!"
D.I.: "Jump from an aircraft while in flight!"
YOU: "Jump from an aircraft while in flight!"
RUN TO CADENCE provides an interesting, exhilarating way to hear how Airborne trainees spend time:
"Run me now, run me now, run me some more, hey!"
This recording is a creative, exciting, diverse array of clever cadence calls; many are sheer genius, potential material for #1-selling Country, Rock, Hip-Hop, Blues, R&B or Rap tunes. More on this later.
The PURPOSE of RUN TO CADENCE, originally produced on cassette in 1979 and now on CD, was TO PROVIDE A DOCUMENTARY of the various types of cadence calls or "Jodie Calls" heard during U. S. Army Airborne training operations, taped at Ft. Benning, Georgia. It perfectly fulfills its mission, providing a record for posterity while bringing honor to itself, to those responsible for producing it, and to those whose voices are heard on it.
The fact that the real-life soldiers on the recording were chided a number of times for not sounding off (not unlike software developers and office workers need to be, who neglect their families and their physical health to spend 20+ hours a week playing video games, surfing the Internet and overeating) illustrates rather strongly that this was not some orchestrated and slick marketing attempt focused on generating sales. It was produced as a simple snippet of sounds with military, cultural and historical significance.
Soldiers will be chided for not sounding off, even if they broke every eardrum within the maximum range of a 155mm Howitzer. Drill sergeants have to get in your face no matter what. They have to break soldiers down, you understand, then build them up the right way -- the military way. Their survival and yours depends on that.
RUN TO CADENCE give a precise, colorful, realistic glimpse into the preparation of our elite Airborne troops, much the same as the first portion of the Stanley Kubrick film "Full Metal Jacket" (available here at Amazon.com) with the outstanding R. Lee Ermey playing the role of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.
The intended audience is anyone interested in military history or drill sergeants singing calls. While this field production is not meant to inspire you, it's GREAT for running at a rhythmic pace and going the distance with your mind on the rhyming, not on the running. Ladies, order RUN TO CADENCE today, bring it to your next aerobics, Tae-Boe® or StairMaster® class for a real treat. Start slow, pick it up, double time! Keep in mind that the best motivation comes from within the self -- if you think inspiration comes from somewhere out here, you may as well just have another SuperSized McMeal, yes, indeed.
Let's face it, there's nothing like a good drill instructor (D.I.) yelling in your ear from time to time -- especially for you slackers in the back like Private Pyle. Enjoy it, smile and have a good time counting your blessings because the D.I. will not be yelling at you personally. RUN TO CADENCE is a cross-sectional variety of dozens of cadence calls featuring several D.I.s. That's really it in a nutshell the size of a watermelon.
Earlier I alluded to the potential for great hit song lyrics found in military cadence calls. In fact, I'm surprised that no musical artist has caught on to this yet, and I humbly predict and do hereby sincerely prophesy that within a few months of this writing, someone will, in one of the popular musical formats, feature cadence calls in a song, and, mark my words, the song will rise to the top echelon of the charts. Here's one example, suitable for a great Country song:
"Coonskin And Alligator Hide!"
"Make a pair of jump boots, just the right size!"
"Shine `em up, lace `em up, put `em on your feet!"
"Spit shined jump boots can't be beat!"
I can personally attest to the legitimacy of this documentary as accurately described in the RUN TO CADENCE liner notes. As an announcer and broadcast professional, I am quite familiar with the methods used to record and produce this vital slice of Americana and also witnessed first-hand the type of training runs used in its creation. The Airborne had already been at Ft. Benning for nearly 20 years when, in the early 1960s, my father was chosen to assist in laying the groundwork for the start up the 11TH AIR ASSUALT DIVISION (TEST), oh, the good old days!
Yes, you're right, very good, the 11TH AAD is the same unit featured in "We Were Soldiers Once", the Mel Gibson movie on DVD and VHS available here at Amazon.com.
The 11TH AAD was formed to develop battlefield strategies for use of troops with helicopters. On days when the folks would shop at the Commissary, my brother Robert and I would sit below magnolia, oak and pine trees, watching the Airborne trainees learn the ropes on the jump towers across the street. The D.I.s would bring their troops past and RUN TO CADENCE.
Lots of troops were there, including Airborne wanna-bees, Special Forces "Green Berets", Advanced Infantry Training group and of course the regular infantry, known for sporting that blue shield with the white sword FOLLOW ME patch.
For these and many more reasons, this production of RUN TO CADENCE gets the highest possible Five-Star rating. It is absolutely the best. And now, it's YOUR turn. Check out this fantastic array of actual troops running to cadence. With RUN TO CADENCE from Amazon.com, you can't go wrong.

Customer Reviews:
The vinyl version is better.......2006-02-19
This is the film version, and it is inferior to the original album release. Often times, soundtrack releases differed from their film versions because composers could tweak passages here and there and get a relaxex, dedicated recording, away from the harsh deadlines of film making. The result was often glorious, as was the case for Jerry Goldsmith's Patton.
Add the famous George C. Scott speeches as prologue and epilogue and you have a classic. But only on vinyl. The vinyl version has better audio quality and is a better performance. It is a shame we are stuck with this dubbed version, which ironically is available on the Patton DVD as well.
Do some research!.......2006-01-14
This is a great CD for collectors. This is the ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK to the film. These arrangements are the ones that were ACTUALLY USED in the film, NOT the ones that were on the album with the speeches. So, if you are looking for the opening and closing speeches, you won't find them here.
Why?
Because there are actually THREE different versions of the score for this FANTASTIC film.
There was another version conducted by Jerry Goldsmith in 1997.
And.... there was ANOTHER one that was recorded in 1970. THAT is the one with the speeches. As far as I know, it has NEVER been released on CD. Hopefully, at some point, someone will see fit to release that version. Personally, I feel those are the best arrangements of the music used in the film. Or, better yet, make a special edition using all 3 versions.
So, you should be HAPPY to have THIS version as well.
By the way, I believe this info is in the liner notes of this CD.
Missed oportunity!.......2006-01-06
While I can appreciate that this release is a very competent recreation of the musical content of the original vinyl, I too was totally dismayed at the absence of Patton's speeches(as delivered by George C Scott) which are virtually inseparable from the music for anyone who owned the original vinyl release. All of which subsequently leaves this release a rather hollow experience.
Two classic scores!.......2005-11-22
This cd includes Frank DeVol's score for the Robert Aldrich classic, "Flight of the Phoenix"; an exciting score for an equally exciting movie. Goldsmith's justifiably famous score for Patton features the original recordings, including the haunting "echoplexed" trumpets. Also, the previous reviewer's one-star rating is rather inexplicable considering this is FILM SCORE release. Why would soundbites from the film be included? Bizarre. All-in-all a great package and a limited edition (only 3,000 copies). Get yours while you can - you won't be disappointed!
Missing the Best .......2005-06-25
This album does not have Patton's opening speech or the closing "All Glory is Fleeting" speech. It misses the two most important segments of the original soundtrack.

Worth the Money.......2007-03-08
If you enjoy running to cadence, this is a good buy, They are easy to understand and help get you pumped up for a good run. The cadences don't flow from one to the next as smoothly as I would like but still rythmic. A good buy.
Motivated.......2007-01-30
This CD kept me motivated while running, but it could have been a little more upbeat.
Good CD to run to........2006-08-20
Like the first CD, but the mixing is much better quality. I don't remember having to adjust step to keep up with the rhythm. The cadences are not as good on this, but if you don't mind the lack of creativity and rhyming ability of a few of the drill sergeants, go for it. Overall, another great CD to run with.
Gets the job done.......2005-07-20
I bought this to prepare myself for joining the army. This CD has a very upbeat pace that was difficult to follow at first, but after a few weeks i can get two miles done in 15 minutes. This CD is not for the faint of heart. If you are joining up and need to get in shape fast then use this. It helped me score am 89 on my PT score for the run and that was after not running for 2 months.
GREAT.......2003-08-22
THIS IS A KICK*SS CD. THE RANGERS CD IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MARINES BUY THIS ONE YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Album Description
Don Felder has been a member of The Eagles ever since their third album. Airborne is his only solo album. It was originally issued on LP in 1983 on Asylum Records. It features guest performances by Timothy B. Schmit, Jeff Lorber, Joe Vitale, Kenny Loggins, Dave Mason & Michael Murphy. Wounded Bird. 2002.
Customer Reviews:
Good, but not his best.......2007-01-06
His best work is on the Heavy Metal sound track.
Not like an eagles album.......2006-01-04
If you have listened to a lot of eagles stuff, you'll notice a couple things. A. Don Felder is a HELL of a guitarists, and B. his vocals are mostly in the harmonies.
Airborne still has that really good guitar. But the guitar does not cut this album, after the first two minutes you'll realize that you really didn't care that there is great guitar. Felders underproduced sometimes pitchy vocals are somewhat annoying.
The album is produced awfully and things simply aren't mixed well. There are no stand out songs and evrything sounds the same. There is a lot of synthetic instruments playing so the album is pretty dated.
The album has it's moments, and I feel that most eagles fans would like adding this sick rarity almost inaccessible CD to you're collection, but this disc sounds nothing like the eagles and really has no point.
Typical Don Felder.......2003-03-22
That's right it's typical Don Felder! Which of course means it's great! This entire album has the same flavor as one of the coolest rock songs ever. Don's big contribution to the Heavy Metal soundtrack "Heavy Metal(Takin' A Ride)" It truly reflects in such songs as " Bad Girls" which most Mtv fanatics from the Eighties would know the video featured Cheech Marin of Cheech and Chong fame. Then there's the song "Never Surrender" which also features Kenny Loggins on vocals which makes the song sound very commercial but it's one of those that you'll continually hum just out of the blue. Most of the album has this flavor to it. I played the heck out of this tape when I had it and wore it out. Now it's on cd and I recommend it to anyone who collects cds. It's a must have!

Album Description
Composer/flutist Gary Schocker´s Airborne is a CD representing both a fine composer and a brilliant flutist. The Philadelphia Inquirer says of Gary Schocker, ``What sets his performance apart from others is the directness of the playing ... Schocker uses the flute to communicate his own enthusiasm and considerable insights.´´
