About the Artist
San Diego-born and based composer Doug Robinson announces his brand new solo CD, SitJazzDown. Chronologically, this is the followup to Robinson's 1998 release, Plays Well With Others, featuring Mike Stern and John Patitucci, which is also available at through Amazon.com. But if Plays Well With Others explored the "yin" side of the composer, SitJazzDown explores the more aggressive "yang" side of his talent.

Product Description
This is dynamic, melodic jazz featuring performances from an amazing cast of all-stars. At the root of it all are multi-instrumentalist Doug Robinson's smart and sassy compositions. Though it's far from derivative, you'll find energy similar to the work of Flim and the BBs, Pat Metheny, Weather Report, Michel Colombier and the late Don Grolnick's classic album, Hearts and Numbers.

SitJazzDown features knockout performances by drummer Peter Erskine (Weather Report, Steely Dan), bassist Dave Carpenter (Dave Grusin), saxophonist Bob Sheppard (Rickie Lee Jones) and guitarists Mike Miller and Peter Sprague (Chick Corea). Throughout it all, Doug Robinson is featured on piano, Hammond B3, vibes and, on the final track, a drum duel with Erskine.

Recorded at Sony Music by Grammy-nominated engineer Rich Breen.

5 out of 5 stars Your best CD so far.......2001-12-23

Your new CD is fantastic! It's been a thrill to experience the musical evolution of your music, with each collection becoming more adventurous and unique. SitJazzdown is the crowning achievement of them all. Can't wait to hear what you do next-- Contratulations!

5 out of 5 stars I love this CD!.......2001-11-14

I have listened to this CD for hours, literally, and IMHO it is one of the finest examples of modern jazz I have heard.

The things I dig the most are: the incredible compositional variety--the tunes move between introspective ballads, butt-movin' funkiness and magnificent symphonic jazz/rock--and the breathtaking mastery of all the players. The band Doug Robinson has assembled here features guys who are among the very best musicians on the planet. It's almost scary how well they listen to and play off of each other.

The guitarist, Mike Miller, is absolutely brilliant--tone to die for, harmonic sophistication, and killer technique. He is my new guitar hero.

Doug Robinson's keys are the foundation to these tunes, and i LOVE his outside, dissonant stabs, always tasty, as they create interesting tensions.

Huge congrats to Doug. This is a truly classic musical statement, one that deserves to be widely heard.
