I have always been a big Joe Walsh fan even pre-Eagles and I think the James Gang Rides again was and is a terrific rock album. Flashback time. Sleep all day out all night - I know what you're doin'.

4 out of 5 stars Enter Joe Walsh.......2006-11-10

The big album for the James Gang.Yes I own an original of this album too.The cover art,Guys on harleys with long hair says it all. With Walsh on guitar the songs start out hard driving (acid) rock which fills your soul and slowly tapers off to a softer ballad type ending. This album ROCKS!

3 out of 5 stars Not a big fan of Joe Walsh, but...........2006-01-29

I don't really care much for his work with the Eagles or the song Rocky Mountain Way, but at least Walsh pulled something decent together with the James Gang. Note that I say "decent" not "stellar". Out of the album's nine tracks, I enjoy four. Funk #49 is best, followed by the surprisingly tender ballad Tend My Garden and the epic Ashes the Rain & I. Also good is the Bomber, complete with Hendrix-esque guitar pyrotechnics. HOWEVER, this album does have several weak points, be it
dull, thankfully brief instrumental Asshton Park (Walsh isn't really much of a guitarist in my mind), the equally dull Woman and Garden Gate. Then there's the overly-Countrified There I Go Again, and a poor attempt at philosophy which is Thanks. "Yes to the guy up there...No to the guy down there..." Whoa, that looks like it could've been written by someone's five-year-old son after his first day of Sunday School. Maybe you should check out a compilation by these guys, as most contain Funk #49, Tend My Garden & Ashes the Rain and I.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME SEQUEL.......2006-01-13

Joe Walsh, I tell you, he just jams on this album. And I'll be honest with you folks, The Bomber is enough to give this album 5 stars right there, he just plays that guitar like it's a rapture. Woman jams too, I just feel as though when they made this album, they were just having one hell of a good time and the jam session is so pure. The classic Funk 49, always good, still Funk 48 is better from the prior album but this will do. Overall, get this album for your listening pleasures, you deserve it.

It's good to hear some of the old Statler songs - brings back memories

5 out of 5 stars Good work! Better Than "the Best" !.......2003-06-24

"Rides Again" should appeal to broader country audience than "The Best of the Statlers". RA is very well produced and done in a solid Nashville Sound/mellow country tradition. Like "the Best", all 11 tracks made the Billboard charts, this batch between 1976 and 1980. This reviewer loved "How to Be a Country Star" which is a tribute to several icons in the field. "Silver Medals and Sweet Memories" is a heartfelt tribute to a dad who never returned from WW2 and I actually used "Your Picture In the Papers" as background for a Toastmasters speech! What's not to like? Statler fans who don't own this one can safely buy it. The curious should be brave and at least click on some of the audio samples. If "Rides Again" won't make you a fan, nothing else will. This is still the original 4 from Staunton, VA; Harold, Phil, Don and the late Lew DeWitt with that trademarked tight harmony. I believe Lew's health problems led to his leaving the group shortly after the time frame that "Rides Again" brackets.

i remember being stuck in the car with my step-father and mother listing to country music. when i heard David Allen-Coe for the first time i felt omg this guy can sing and enjoyed it. i been looking for more albums of his and this one album is jam pack with some of the hardest song of his to find. if you like good country music are just plan damn good music i say buy this album you wont regert it. David Allen-Coe made me like country music i think he can turn anyone on to it.

5 out of 5 stars Classic albums from a troubled man.......2005-04-13

When these albums were recorded in 1976 and 1977, David was going through difficult times in his personal life. As so often happens with singer-songwriters in such situations, these problems affected the content of his music but not its quality. In many ways, these are the kind of albums you would expect David to record.

In Longhaired redneck, the title track to the first album in this twofer, David complains about all the DJ's who won't play his music because he's an outlaw and doesn't fit their idea of what country music is about. In two other songs (Revenge, Living on the run), David sings about murder. Much more cheerful is Family reunion, a song with a touch of bluegrass (rare for David) in which David reminisces about playing music with the family. But that song provides a rare dose of cheer among the many sad, dark or bitter songs to be found on these two albums.

Perhaps the strangest song is Dakota the dancing bear. I don't know what the inspiration for this song about hippies, rednecks, heroin and a dancing bear was, but it will outrage some people while others will find it very funny. Some aspects of the song are funny, but having heard (some years ago) about the plight of real dancing bears, I think David could have written a funnier song without the bear.

Perhaps the best-known song here is Willie Waylon and me, in which David put himself in some illustrious company including the Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, the Byrds and the Eagles as well as Waylon and Willie.

There are many other great songs here including Greener than the grass we laid on (a song that Tammy Wynette has covered), A sense of humor (attacking reporters who treat him unfairly) and The house we've been calling home (about a man with three wives).

The more you listen to this album - or study the lyrics in the accompanying booklet - the stranger it gets. While it is often dark and moody, this album has much to offer to those who are looking for songs with a difference. There are plenty here.

5 out of 5 stars cult in scandinavia.......2004-01-19

In the early 80's when Mr Coe was not that well treated in the States. He developed a cult in Sweden and its viking neighbour countrys. I hold most us his early stuff as holy as any other epic rock and country stuff as Stones "Sticky fingers" or Cash "follsom prison". Longhaired redneck tells the fatal drama of fame, drugs and revenge. Songs like "spotlight" and "on the run" should be as mutch classics as "willin " by little feat or "poncho and lefty" by Townes van Zandt. Buy this one if you realy care about music and experince the magic of music, THANKS David i wish the rides never stop.

5 out of 5 stars FINALLY.......2003-11-04

David Allen Coe Rides Again is an amazing record. I remember my dad playing it over and over again when I was younger, and I managed to save the original record from his collection. Unfortunately it has a skip right in the middle of Under Rachael's Wings. Now I can buy it on CD and listen to it forever- skip free !! For anyone who has never heard this record, you need to immediately get it. I enjoy all kinds of music and this record is right up there with Big Star, Velvet Underground, Merle Haggard, Beatles, Hank SR. - anything. If you like great poetry, this is for you .

From the 2001 Blue Collar Comedy Tour and the movie and soundtrack that followed to the "Blue Collar TV" series, the combination of countrified comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy, and Ron White has been a sensation, the most successful and popular comedy gathering in years. Now the concert film's sequel, Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again, has its soundtrack companion.

2 out of 5 stars blah.......2006-11-14

its the same old boring and unfunny jokes it always was. in my opinion it wasn't funny at all. i'm gonna get crap for it but i just thought it was stupid. larry the cable guy is the worst comedian ever. same goes for bill. the only one on the tour that wasn't over rated was ron. ron white owns. so yeah i gave it 2 stars for ron. but this totally not worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Movie On Cd.......2005-10-19

All this is is the film on CD. It's about equally funny, besides the missing physical humor. Here's the tracks:
Bill Engvall
1. Intro
2. Differences Between Men & Women-5/5-What makes this funny is that it's true. The "chess set joke & the touch means go, push means no" thing are hilarious.
3. Spending Time Together-5/5-The GED joke is one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time.
4. Here's Your Sign-4/5-It's OK. Not the best "here's your sign".

Ron White
5. Intro
6. The Chinese Space Program and Other Musings on Life-5/5-Ron White is my favorite comedian on this tour. The jokes about his grandpa and viagra; and his hatred of thanksgiving are the funniest.
7. I Just Got Married-5/5-"I wouldn't camp out for five days if I was...camping." 'Nuff said.
8. Sluggo-4/5-I love the last joke; My dog ran away for like ten hours and when he came back, just to piss him off. I took him for a walk."

Jeff Foxworthy
9. Intro
10. TV and Its Side Effects-5/5-The side effects part is very funny.
11. Oreo Generation-5/5-Interesting views on the similarities between both the youth and the elderly.
12. Courtesy Sniff-5/5-Very funny.

Larry the Cable Guy
13. Intro
14. Vasectomies, Fat Girls, and Monopoly Money-5/5-Inbred, white trash humor? Brilliant!
15. The New Nascar-4/5-The nascar jokes aren't as great as they were last time, but the joke about his grandpa and ugly flight attendants are good.
16. My Family Is Weird-5/5-The second hand chew quip is good; the jokes about his girlfriend and him are good. Pretty damn funny.

17. Encore
18. I Believe-5/5-The lady screaming "Larry I Love you" is great. This whole thing is hilarious.

5 out of 5 stars More Of the Same.......2005-04-04

This is pretty much like the first one, only our blue collar boys are in a different order. Very surprisingly, Jeff Foxworty is not at his best, doing jokes about how some medecines have side effects worse than what the medeine cures. I coulda told ya that, Jeff! But I'm comparing Jeff Foxworthy to all of his earlier stuff, which is kind of unfair, because his earlier stuff was so perfect. The rest of the album is spectacular. "I Believe" was saved for the end for a very good reason (It's hilarious!) So, if you liked the first one (In other words, if you are alive), you won't be disappointed with the Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again.

4 out of 5 stars Welcome back, boys..........2004-11-25

The Blue Collar boys, Bill Engvall, Ron White, Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy reunite in a sequel to the surprise hit from last year. The format is basically the same -- 15-20 minutes of stand-up from each of them, then they come together at the end.

It's not quite catching the same lightning in a bottle that they did the first time, but it's still a lot of fun. As before, several of them use routines they've done on their solo albums, but even when you've ehard the jokes before, there's still a different twist, a different punchline, a different delivery every now and then that keeps it from getting stagnant.

The important thing, which is so evident for "I Believe" at the end, is that these are four guys who genuinely love what they're doing, and it shows, and it's infectious. This CD is a bit more explicit than the first one, and parents should probably think twice before playing Ron or Larry's routines, but for the most part, fans of the original will really enjoy this one.

2 out of 5 stars mediocre.......2004-10-04

Being a lover of both country music and Dean Martin, this album was a natural choice. Dean Martin doing county music sounds like a great marriage. To add fuel to this theory, I remember seeing him do an amazing song in a Western movie which may have been Rio Bravo. Eventually, however, I quickly found out why the two albums on this disc were out-of-print. The song choices are good and Dean's voice is as velvety as ever. The problem lies in the production and treatment. All songs are filled with the thick backdrop of a cheesy 1960's symphony orchestra. I'm not sure if it hasn't aged well or always sounded corny. I think that had Dean stripped the arrangements down (or recorded it ten years earlier or later), it might have become a classic. Instead, this disc is the reissue of two albums that probably should have stayed out-of-print. If you go into this album as a die hard Dino fan, you'll probably like it more than if you jump into it as a county and western enthusiast. Get this if you're as curious as I was to actually hear Dino sing county, but avoid it if you can.

5 out of 5 stars COUNTRY DINO.......2003-03-01

I must confess that i am not a so called country music fanatic. However, those two back to back 1963 lps reunited are just what i needed to start my exploration.Perhaps it is the laidback DINO attitude that contributed to my enjoyment, but the singer was a natural for the genre and the classics like I'M SO LONESOME I SHOULD CRY,I WALK THE LINE and HEY GOOD LOOKIN are given first class treatment. My feeling was: let's try a country cd for a change, and unexpectedly i was pleased with the results.Maybe you are like me and thought you wouldn't buy a country cd of your life.Well, this could also do the trick for you like it did with me.With the recent réédition of the whole REPRISE catalogue,DEAN MARTIN is bound to gain many new fans.Let's hope so!

5 out of 5 stars COUNTRY COOL.......2003-02-20

Country music never sounded so good. Dino adds his touch to these great country standards. I always loved these songs but not being a real big country music fan I now get to appreciate them even more .

4 out of 5 stars quite a set of pipes.......2007-02-05

When the initial Storyville release, "Bluest Eyes" came out, we were absolutely floored by one of the best blues-rock albums ever, and that was due not only to the distinctive and unique great set of pipes that Malford Milligan has and uses, but also to the material on the album, that effectively showcased his wide emotive range. The bar, thus, has been set a bit high, due to that release, and every other release that follows, will be measured by it. Having said that personal opinion, EVERY release that has Milligan on it is a pleasure to listen to (see that Double Trouble album a few years back that has him on it, along with a host of others). The guy is truly a terrific talent, and brings a soulful rendition to the blues and rock he so obviously enjoys. There's that touch of Otis Redding, Sam Carr, even the Wicked Pickett and a young Paul Rodgers in what he does...and it's great to hear. I am enjoying this album. The horns are a nice touch. The backbeat is solid. Yet I can't give it five stars because it does not measure up to Bluest Eyes. He will reach that plateau again...and it's only a matter of time. But until he does, whatever else he give us, will certainly be enjoyed...

5 out of 5 stars What You Need To Know.......2006-12-06

Rides Again... is the debut CD of The Malford Milligan Band. Malford is a world-class blues/soul singer, based out of Austin, Texas. The songs chosen for this release all lean heavily toward a classic soul sound, including songs written by Freddie King, Otis Redding, and Muddy Waters. The veteran Austin bluesman first found national acclaim as the lead singer for the renowned Austin band Storyville. They recorded three very successful CDs before they went their separate ways. He was voted "Best Male Vocalist of the Decade" by the Austin Chronicle. Texas Monthly Magazine said that "(He) may be the next great soul singer...his tenor resonance and barking delivery invite comparisons with Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, and when he's onstage you can't take your eyes off him!!!" Originally issued on a local Austin record label -- now available nationally for the first time.

5 out of 5 stars Still My Favorate John Stewart Album.......2006-02-24

I bought this album back it 1971 and loved every song. Wild Horse Road and Wild Horses are my all time favorite John Stewart songs. If you haven't heard these two songs, buy this cd, you won't be sorry. I'm so glad the the Lonesome Picker Rides Again has been released on cd. Now I can listen to it again without all the LP popping sounds. Some wonderful music you don't here everyday on the radio everyday.

5 out of 5 stars Wolves in the Kitchen.......2005-10-22

When Dave Guard left the Kingston Trio some 40+ years ago,an unknown singer-songwriter named John Stewart took his place. It didn't take long for diehard KT fans to realize John's gifts. Then in the late 60's John began performing at clubs in the Los Angeles area, like The Ice House,The Troubador and others. He penned such hits as California Bloodlines,Daydream Believer, and much later his biggest radio hit,Gold with Stevie Nicks. Lonesome Picker Rides Again had the great rockin' song,Wolves in the Kitchen.Great lyrics & beat. Many other songs on the album became cult favorites too,but Wolves remains one of my faves some 45 years later! If you know JS and his music, you know of what I speak,if you don't,buy this CD and Cannons In The Rain or the Phoenix Concert CD to get started on a great journey!

4 out of 5 stars Some excellent Stewart here.......2005-07-29

While many of us old people still smile when we hear the Kingston Trio, which John Stewart sang with after the departure of Dave Guard, I think most of us would admit his best work came after he left the Trio. The recent re-issuing of some of his early work will, hopefully, acquaint a new generation with one of our most unappreciated but best singer-songwriters. With roots in rock and folk, Stewart's music is poetry in the best sense of the word. His range includes melancholy (Wild Horse Road) to hard thumping (Wolves in the Kitchen). At this writing, sample tracks were not available (come on, Amazon! ;} ) but listeners who take a leap of blind faith and buy this CD or who otherwise manage to hear some of Stewart's music will discover there is a treasure trove of his work out there - I strongly recommend the Phoenix Concerts CD but there is no such thing as a weak John Stewart album.

4 out of 5 stars masterful and effortless.......2005-02-02

Nothing that John Stewart touches is "average." The guy doesn't have an average bone in his body. The Lonesome Picker Rides Again is another celebrated release to add to your collection of Americana. Time has been unable to tarnish the Lonesome Picker. The musicianship is masterful and effortless, and the lyrics are as relevant today as they were in 1971. And they will be just as valid 30-years from today.

`Just An Old Love Song' applauds uncontrollable teenagers. You may discover the end of life's road in `The Road Shines Bright.' If you're stuck in a dead-end job (or a dead-end life) try `Touch Of The Sun.' `Bolinas' is an idealized town which existed "when the world was spinning a song." John wrestles with commitment and freedom in `Freeway Pleasure.' `Little Road And A Stone To Roll' is a sunny relief from bumper-to-bumper traffic during the morning commute? And there's lovely girl that puts her heart before her head in `Crazy'. The Lonesome Picker holds its most moving and rewarding work until last. `Wild Horse Road' and `All The Brave Horses' are about the small and unrecognized heroic acts which each of us perform every day.

      5 out of 5 stars Satisfying collection.......2006-08-20

No one is better than Riders in Sky when it comes to cowboy music. This collection is full of standards, but has a few songs I hadn't heard before.

5 out of 5 stars Review for Riders In the Sky.......2001-07-14

If you like true western music then this is an album you need to get. It has the true "Western" music and is about the cowboy.Hey if you don't believe me, buy it and listen to some of the finest western music you will ever hear.

      Eddie Asberry

4 out of 5 stars that'll learn me to listen to samples first. . ........2001-04-24

I bought this CD hoping it would contain the type of cowboy songs you expect to hear around a campfire, when some leather-faced toughguy breaks out his geetar and sings about being lonely. In other words, I was hoping for something less . . . I dunno . . . dorky. It's not that these guys are bad musicians - just the opposite. But their prowess and tightness is almost too polished, and I simply wasn't prepared for these perky tunes. To my untrained ear this sounds like something from 30's radio programs and not from a true cowboy's heart. Heed my words: listen to the samples before buying this CD.

      Great harmonizing, though.

5 out of 5 stars the best riders in the sky.......2000-10-23

I own about 4 Riders in the Sky cd's and this is by far the best one. It is a great mix of fast, catchy traditional cowboy songs, and of slower ballads like "cool water." This is great music to sing along with, especially during a road trip.
