Magical. Mystical. Mesmerizing........2002-10-11
While I love the early Blossom Dearie records for their simplicity, sophistication and wit, I also love this. "Ladies Who Lunch" takes you through a moonlit garden of bifurcating paths, ending in a tar pit of dinosaurs that she's nonetheless upbeat about. Incredible.
The second track (Bluzette? I'm sorry I'm writing from an internet cafe in Hong Kong) starts out soft 'n sad 'n gentle and ends up rocking. How does she do it? She belts the final lines like a disco diva.
On all the numbers the background muzik is right on. No, this is not just Blossom and a piano, although I love that. It's a bigger-yet-quieter production.
I've listened to this album 1000 times already.

We anticipated this release for a long time. I must say that despite the previous review, this CD is a beautiful work, and the next chapter in the music of Blossom Dearie. Apprehensive about buying? Don't worry the Blossom Dearie we all know and love sounds the same, she has just expanded her body of work, so whether u like the Verve releases or the Daffodil releases, you are sure to like this!

Tired Blossom.......2000-12-06
Blossom's Verve and Capitol records are among my favorite, but Blossom's performance, and the arrangements of the songs on this CD are tired and lack spark-despite the Brazilian influences. The version of Wave is deadly-all 7 minutes of it. The cover of this CD speaks for itself. Blossom looks tired and the music reflects this mood. Come on, Blossom, wake up and give 'em the ooh-la-la. For now, stick with vintage Blossom.
Best Yet!.......2000-05-15
I have collected Blossom's recordings since the early 70s, and this is the best of them all. A program that is sophisticated and warm, terrific songwriters, and great orchestrations with a Latin flavor. If you've been meaning to try a Blossom Dearie recording, or perhaps haven't "gotten" what she's all about, this is the one to get.

Love It, Lyle Lovett.......2006-10-07
How many times have I listened to the first five songs? About three gazillion.
She's completely redone "Ladies Who Lunch" in a way that's right up there with Elaine Stritch's version. Fancy that!
And she builds up the intensity on "Bluesette" until she's rocking the house and all the other passengers on New York's F train are bopping in their seats as the tune leaks out of my i-pod.
Finally, "Lies of Handsome Men" is now my theme song.
I verify that I am over the age of 13.
