DAVE BRUBECK, WCPN 90.3 FM INTERVIEW, NOVEMBER 25, 2001
"I was amazed at how talented he is...he's the first one I met that young that was THAT talented."

Product Description
All Jazzed Up is a one of a kind CD. The Matt Savage Trio performs live at The Deertrees Theatre in Harrison, ME on August 19th, 2001. This CD is the first professional recording of the Trio in concert. It contains mostly original compositions by 9-year-old pianist/leader Matthew Savage, along with some jazz standards by the talented Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Billy Strayhorn. All Jazzed Up is receiving rave reviews, not just for its excellent music, but also for the incredible fact that its phenomenal pianist/composer is a mere child. Matthew's stunning talent combined with that of his adult, world class musician sidemen makes for an experience not to be missed. John Funkhouser plays awesome bass and Steve Silverstein brings it all home with his percussion. The only way to be more "blown away" by the results of their inspiration is to attend one of their performances in person. This CD marks the beginning of a new stage in Matthew's race to achieve. It is the CD that is being touted as the one to buy and hold on to as an early recording of one of jazz's up-and-coming greatest musicians. Matthew has been called the "Mozart" of jazz, a 9-year-old composer with lightning fast fingers and an unbelievable sense of the harmonies and theory of jazz.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT ! you don't know about Young Master Savage ? ? ?.......2004-04-23

OK, frankly I wouldn't have found this amazing individual / artist / creator / composer myself except for an amazing article in 12.03 WIRED mag, but it was a very fortunate thing that I picked up that issue. Although the article was mostly concerned with Matt's savantness and autism, it hinted at a unique musical talent without really conveying the power and poise behind the keyboard that feel and sound to FARRRRR exceed his age.

I am most impressed with the genuine fun and raw creativity that flow forth from this disc - all the rarer in an age of overproduced and polished output from all over the map.

Maybe he's an "old soul" who got an exceptional musical gift in exchange for coming back to earth; maybe he's the spirit of Thelonius Monk back after some time jamming with Davis & Coltrane & Mingus; maybe he is the "Jazz Mozart" for our age.

All that really matters is that you go [Now.] to savagerecords.com and order yourself a disc or two or three of these early works

A N D...

if you are fortunate enough to live anywhere NEAR one of the MST's live shows - go Go GO!!!

As if all of this wasn't enough; a portion of all the discs proceeds go to autism research.

P.S. - congrats to the boy on that National Geography Bee regional win; Go Matt Go @ Nationals

Anytime there is so much press and hub-bub about an artist it is often simply a function of the media interests or crafty management manipulating an unwary consumer need to have the latest "thing". This is NOT the case with Master Savage and his Trio... everything and anything you have heard about this wonderfully talented young man comes shining through on this disc, and for that matter all the other released materials. His capacity for improvisation is nothing short of amazing [think Thelonius Monk with a sense of humor] and his playing skills when the occasional standard comes to the play list only further shows that he is no fluke who can simply pick out a tune that strikes his fancy. Matt is a gifted and kind young man by all accounts who has benefited enormously from the modern efforts to provide early diagnosis and guidance for autistic persons; see the December 2003 issue of Wired magazine for a more detailed discussion. The liner notes, provided by mother Dianne are full of insight into not only the process of recording but the realities of living with a very special young man who is already well on his way to becoming a Jazz master - - - at age twelve ! ! ! "Keep on Groovin'" as Matt has said and go directly to savagerecords.com for a little savings if you choose... their storefront is clean and well organized, their shipping & customer service is top notch [thanks to Larry ["da' Man"] and if you ask REALLLLLLLLY nice they might even have some of the "out of print" discs if you go now Now NOW ! "One is Not Fun" almost made me choke on cookies and Soy Milk with it's humor...
