Dizzy Gillespie claimed that "Fats could eat up a piano"--one of the clearest expressions of the great Waller's talent ever uttered by another master. But what's frustrating for all pianists about Waller was said by Fats himself in the middle of a vast piano solo that sounded as if he had four hands and two pianos going at once: "It's so easy when you knows how!" To add credence, the great Art Tatum declared "Fats ... that's where we all came from." To add credence listeners can experience, it's difficult to find a musician who cut as many records as Waller did in his short life of 39 years. Handful of Keys boasts previously unrecorded selections like "Stop Beatin' 'Round The Mulberry Bush," "My Best Wishes," and "What's the Matter with You," all of them masterfully performed. The biggest surprise here is "St. Louis Blues" done as a solo, in contrast to the early duet in March 1930 with Bennie Payne, then a member of Cab Calloway's orchestra. The solo version can render you unconscious because of both its stride and its luminous optimism. Fats's stride piano invokes a stomp and howl at (or with) anyone who can play so much piano and transmit such happiness through the music alone. The clever asides and burlesques of the rather simple-minded numbers RCA Victor forced him to record, of course, add to the hilarity, but the stupefyingly glorious wonder of Waller's technique and imagination are joyous. Handful of Keys is a keeper for all fans, be they Traditional, Bop, R&B, Rock, or whatever the present state of Jazz connotes. Fats is the cat who gave us many of the foundation stones of all jazz. --Daniel Bartlett Jr.

Album Description
Germany's Helloween are undeniably one of the most influential heavy metal bands to emerge from Europe during the 1980s. By taking the harmonies and structure of classic bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and infusing them with the urgency and energy of the growing thrash metal movement, Helloween created something unique and truly embody the essence of 'power metal'. The band remains a strong force today, as proven on this new double CD, Keeper Of The Seven Keys: The Legacy World Tour 2005-2006 Live on 3 Continents. Captured live in Sao Paulo, March 25th, 2006 during their latest global trek, this release is a must for any fan of fantastic Heavy Metal.
Customer Reviews:
great live album by a great band.......2007-04-04
This album sounds great,the song "the king for a 1000 years" its amazing live(yeah 13 minutes with 17 seconds) the track list is magnificent and no question why did they choose brazil,brazilian audience has a lot of energy,they make you feel there all through the album...good job helloween!
Excellent performance by an excellent band.......2007-03-01
Helloween has allways been a great melodic metal band; 1 year ago they released the "Keeper Legacy" album, in my opinion one of their best (if not their very best). This Live album couldn't come out in a better time; For those who like this band, you dont have to think about getting it. The performance was great, the sound quality simply terrific and the track selection almost perfect (excpet for some songs that you really come to miss). I had the chance to see one of the shows of this tour in Europe, and when I heard this for the first time, I almost thought that the guys were playing in front of me again. And dont miss the tracks of the past "Keeper" album performed by Andy Deris and with the sound quality of these days. A great experience for a metal fan. I seriously doubt that you can go wrong with this.
Amazing live album!!!.......2007-02-27
One of the best Live metal albums ever. Helloween are amazing, great set list, amazing sound, great vox a perfect concert!!! The energy from the crowd that this band draws is also unparalled.
Happy Happy Helloween oh oh oh oh.......2007-02-22
This album shows just how powerful Helloween sounds when they play live specially in front of an amazing crowd like Sao Paulo. If you close your eyes and listen to this record you can feel being part of the audience. One thing I dont like so much about this record, is that some songs are over 10 minutes , when they could easily could have chosen to play some shorter songs, but they decided to play mostly songs from the Keeper of the Keys albums. Best treat....I Want Out...just listen to the crowd!

The furious fusion of Garaj Mahal.......2005-10-19
Garaj has been blessing my brain for some time now. What makes them so great? The parts; Fareed Haque on guitar is blazingly fast but always has swing, Kai Eckhardt on the bottom with the fattest tone, Alan Hertz with his supple and elastic drums that can snap a song into pure greatness, Eric Levy on keys, soulful.
But the whole is more than the sum; Garaj Mahal has a furiousness to their playing that brings to mind an express train. Their sound can dominate the synapses like no other band.
A perfect enthno-jazz CD.......2003-12-10
The talents of Garaj mahal are enough to entertain anyone who enjoys the funkier variations of jazz, but this CD features a very special guest: Zakir Hussain on tablas! He adds such a mystical, trancendental quality to the complex rhythms of the band. The best things about electric jazz and global percussion are found on this disc!!!

R_Garcia's igloomag.com REVIEW :: .......2006-01-31
R_Garcia's igloomag.com REVIEW ::
(01.30.06) Not usually known for post-jazz-rock musings, Miami electronic label Merck has boldly leant its soapbox to a tremendously talented group of instrumental experimentalists from Minneapolis known as Lateduster. Since their formation in 1999, Lateduster has undergone some minor line-up and name changes before finally settling down as Andrew Broder, Martin Dash, JG Everest, and Bryan Olson -- each a multi-instrumental contributor to these so-called Easy Pieces.
At first listen, Lateduster displays some obvious similarities to other modern instrumental groups (Jaga Jazzist/Tortoise). However, this band offers a unique and refreshing sense of freedom in their compositions, shifting gears from the electronically-treated jamming of album opener "Shaker/Flicker" to the hauntingly introverted piano of "Keno." "Sonata" takes us on a disjointed and cinematic ride through the twilight urban landscape before "Hospital no.32" treats our psychic bed spins -- all the while "Love Theme" is there waiting to gently massage our tired feet after a hard day's listen.
The complexity of the music on Easy Pieces is balanced rather beautifully by the palatability of the sounds contained within. The electric pianos are as warm as a mother's hum, the drums -- flat and crisp as a tortilla for the rest of the band to fill in and overflow from. It is a bountiful feast of tones and moods with bits of jazzy guitar poking out here and there. Easy Pieces, much like the cover art accompanying it, is a work of both natural and geometric shapes; perfect in imperfection.
The best chill music ever!!!.......2006-01-09
The best way to describe Lateduster is a jazz-electronica instrumental with melancholy undertones, a nice blend. I put this on all the time, it puts you in a good mood. Great to have in the backround for doing work or just something to fall asleep to... Overall excellent music in any occasion. Highly recommended.

I like this group live. You can download their earlier concerts free and legally from www.furthurnet.org and get even finer pieces of their work. (Legal because they and many others have a taping policy that allows people to tape the concerts.)
This is excellent music
A good time for all.......2003-12-10
This is probably the most accessible of Garaj Mahal's three live releases. Recorded at the Boulevard Cafe in Chicago, this album oozes with the sweat and spirituality of a live performance. Call and response funk, Zappa-like brain-jazz, "The Chicken", and a stirring take on our National Anthem make this CD a great introduction to this band.

Customer Reviews:
"Live In Berln" rocks!.......2000-09-28
Chris Bennett has always been one of my favorite artists and this CD really shows her off at her best in a "live" setting. Those of us who attend her live concerts here in the L.A. area know her as a dynamic and talented singer,pianist and composer. "Live In Berlin" really showcases her energy and beautiful voice. The sax parts by Armando Castagnoli are gorgeous - what a great CD!!
