Nestor Torres is a young composer and flute player with a '70s-style, synth-heavy, Latin light-jazz sound. The musicianship is slickly professional and the tracks are well recorded. There is some authentic percussion playing heard here and there, so why have the producers opted for programmed trap drums throughout? Torres seems like he really wants to get something across and gets some good licks in. He is obviously a capable flautist with a secure technique and he has interesting ideas. However, the overall impression given on this album is that Torres is either playing to an audience that prefers their clavés and montunos predigested or has seriously underestimated how much of the real thing they can take. Listeners who enjoy soft jazz and mainstream Latin pop will eat this up, but fans of the real deal should look elsewhere. With Marc Antoine, Richard Bona, Kim Waters, and Dave Samuels. --Christina Roden

I listen to this almost every morning over a cup of coffee and a journal and Bible; There doesn't seem to be a better way of starting the day. Torres' music does not interfere or become annoying as you do other things, but sometimes I do find myself just sitting back from the books and revelling in the sheer beauty of the compositions. I also recommend Humberto Ramirez' "Aspects" (latin-jazz trumpet)and Editus' "Calles y Vientos" (jazz/classical violin-guitar-percussion) VERY highly!!

Conocía a Nestor Torres el 21 de julio en el Festival de Jazz y Ribbs en Columbus Ohio junto a Kenny G; no lo conocía y compré el album Treasures of Heart y quedé fascinado. Lo escucho todos los dias y más la pieza Treasures of heart que transporta a uno a las nostalgias de infancia, la distancia, y recuerdos de ayer. I love wind instruments and this cd renews my love for the sound. Music is truly the food of life. It is so restful yet vibrant. A must have. Remids me of his performance at the St. Lucia jazz festival in 5/99. Keep up the good work, we need cds like this to continue to live in today's world. PEACE.

I attended a live concert by Nestor Torres at Kennesaw State University on 8/22/99 where he performed several cuts from "Treasures of the Heart". He had the audience in his hand for the entire concert (outdoor venue), as well as dancing in the aisles!

      "Treasures of the Heart" is one of favorite CD's by Mary Beth Carlson. The music on the CD consists of familiar melodies with themes of enduring love.

      The title track "Treasures of the Heart" is a beautiful original composition by Mary Beth. It's a tune that you will find you want to listen to over and over again. I feel that it is one of the most beautiful of the numerous songs Mary Beth has composed over the years.

      My personal favorite of the songs on the CD is "Could I Have This Dance (For the Rest of My Life) / Tales From the Vienna Woods". It is a beautiful combination of a waltz from today and the Strauss Waltz. When Mary Beth moves into "Tales From the Vienna Woods" you will most certainly be looking for a waltz partner.

      One of the most beautiful songs in recent years has been "The Prayer" (originally sung by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli). Mary Beth combines this beautiful piece with the very beautiful "Looking Through Your Eyes" which was written by Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster and is from the movie "Quest For Camelot". The combination of these two songs makes for a most memorable musical piece.

      Another beautiful combination of songs consists of two songs from some years ago. But the combination of "Ebb Tide / Blue Moon" will bring back great memories to most everyone.

      There are many other great pieces on this wonderful collection of music.       Surely this must be the finest collection of songs in Enlgish from operettas and early 20th century musicals available anywhere. Marilyn Hill Smith is in fine voice and is admirably partnered by baritone Peter Morrison. This two CD collection is truly a 'treasure.' It belongs in the collection of any English speaking lover of operetta.
