One of the pioneers of contemporary jazz, Chuck Mangione has been missing in action as a recording artist since 1989. "I didn't listen to music," says the flugelhornist. "I laid down, I read paperback books, I watched sports, and I went fishing." In 1994, Mangione did begin performing again, but The Feeling's Back (Chesky) is his first recording as leader since his self-imposed hiatus. Recorded in New York's St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the album finds Mangione performing his own Brazilian-jazz compositions as well as the songs of famed Brazilian composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Toninho Horta, and Dori Caymmi.

The feeling is not back with this cd. It's rather a new feeling. It's obvious Chuck only did this album to showcase his flugelhorn playing, otherwise there would be more drums and guitars. This is a smoother soulful album, and is nice to listen to. But when I'm really in the mood for listening to music, I need a loud energetic album to fufill my needs! If you like mello latin jazz, then this is the album for you. If you like the old Chuck Mangione, then this album is not for you.
There are some highlights of this album, like the opener. And there are some cool things about this cd, like the appearence of old time buddy, Gerry Niewood, but for overall listening enjoyement, this was a bust!!!!!!!!

I had the pleasure of first hearing this music live. The day after the concert I purchased the CD. It is very mellow and beautiful music.

This music is the only thing you will need at the end of a tense day.

Chuck Lost the Feeling.......1999-06-21

This album represents Chuck at his ultimate low point. The songs represent a latin-based, mellow, depressing tone, which is contrary to his initial works. His trumpet playing is rather weak and cannot be heard in any abundance throughout any of the tracks. He plays a variation of an old song, Consuelo's Love Theme, but apparently drags it out to fill up space on the CD. The album is appropriate to help a listener fall asleep or in a depressive episode. None of his original band members take part in this release, and there is no resemblance to his earlier works.

Chuck Lost the Evening of Magic Feeling :(.......1999-06-18

This CD was very disappointing and belongs in the elevator. Chuck, stop kidding yourself, release your double-CD, Evening of Magic, Live at the Hollywood Bowl album. You should re-unite with James Bradley Jr, Charles Meeks, and Chris Vadol and release your feelings in an upbeat "Children of Sanchez" type album. I am hoping that he doesn't play this crap during his upcoming concert in Tarrytown, NY. BELLAVIA!

Album Description

25 years after this show debuted on Broadway, the two original stars - Richard Kiley (Man of La Mancha) and Leslie Uggams (Hallelujah, Baby) - join a talented cast of newcomers to record the score! The album also restores the original orchestrations - long thought lost - and recreates the thrilling sound of Broadway shows in the 1960s.

Also featured are Broadway stars Priscilla Lopez (A Chorus Line), Ron Raines (Days of Our Lives) and Brenda Silas-Moore (Freeway Dreams), among others.

Take a chance on this incredible score!.......2004-07-22

I'm glad I did, as it definitely now resides in my top ten favorite Broadway scores. It's an extremely variable score, from wildly comic to powerfully beautiful, and that may have affected the show's run, but it works great on your CD player.
Don't be afraid to change the order of the songs either. I start off with 2,3, then 1, etc. In fact, the only song I didn't end up liking on the entire CD was "Many Young Men From Now".
When I read a review by someone, I'm always curious about other shows they've liked, or didn't like, to see how similar (or dissimilar!) our tastes are. Some scores I've enjoyed include: House of Flowers, Grass Harp, Saratoga, Camelot, Purlie, Dear World, Mata Hari, The Life, Avenue Q and Wicked.
Some I didn't like include Bajour, Subways Are For Sleeping, The Seussical, St. Louie Woman, Applause, Urinetown, Greenwillow, Big River, Sweet Charity and The Golden Apple.

Failed Broadway musical revived 25 years later........1999-06-05

This is a true oddity. HER FIRST ROMAN with book, music and lyrics by Ervin Drake is a show with some promise. The rhyming in some of the lyrics is clever, the premise of adapting Shaw's CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA to the musical stage a beguiling one. But this is amateurish from beginning to end. Not able to make up its mind whether it is drama, comedy or low comedy, it is none of these. Uggams is woefully miscast but Kiley does a wonderful job as Caesar. There are only two songs of merit - MANY YOUNG MEN FROM NOW (which should be in every gay cabaret singer's repertoire) and the rollicking I FELL IN WITH EVIL COMPANIONS. The rest range from mediocre to downright boring. Amazing that the original cast members and the producers liked it well enough to mount a cast album 25 years after the closing. Valuable to Broadway composers/lyricists in showing how NOT to write a show. This would have been ideal material for Lerner and Loewe, but sadly not for Mr. Drake.

I have been listening to the CD and wondering how I had never heard of them before. Their fresh, pure musical tone and lilting harmonies are perfection, leaving a person feeling clean and refreshed. A big five-star salute to Celtic glory!

Beautifully inspiring music!.......2001-05-19

"Walking Tune" is a beautiful work of art. The lovely tunes are perfect for background music in the office or relaxing around home. I particularly enjoy the flute and harp combination. The Celtic sound is delightfully performed and should inspire anyone with Irish roots. "Walking Tune" is a regular on my play list because the music is always so refreshing.

Uplifting and joyus music!.......2001-04-15

Once in awhile you'll find music that stays fresh and fun to listen to long after the CD is scratched and the case is cracked. Rosewynde's "Walking Tune" is such a CD.

They have chosen their pieces wisely. It has a wonderful blend of Celtic music but also some Folk and Traditional Jazz. Each song has been thoughtfully arranged for flute and harp by the duo. Though I've heard many of these pieces before, Rosewynde's arrangements were fresh and held many touches of creativity that just make your heart sing! This CD can be played as relaxing background music but should also be listened to closely for its beauty and musicianship.
