Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Having worked with the likes of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, session man Bill Wolfer convinced both stars to return the favor when he recorded this electro-soul rarity for Solar's Constellation label in 1982. Now available for the first time on CD including his electro version of The Temptations' classic, 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' (bonus track) and illustrated booklet containing extensive interview with the man. 2002.

Album Details
Many of the Songs on this Compilation, Despite Being Standards, were Unknown to Montez, but Most were Perfected in Just a Few Takes. Songs which Would Seem Alien to his Vocal Style Became his Trademark. In Total, Chris Montez Recorded Four Albums for A&m Records Between 1966 and '69. There is a Large Helping of Standards, from the Day and Much Earlier, Played in a Rhythmic Lounge-jazz Bossa Style by Seasoned West Coast Studio Musicians. Handclaps were De Rigeur, and as Laid Back as Chris's Vocals. The Blend of Styles was New, and the A&m Recording Quality Excellent, Still Sounding Fresh Today.

A Bit Pricey but Worth It.......2006-09-24
I listened to Chris Montez's A&M LP's back in the 60's when they were selling in the stores but I had borrowed the records and had not bought them for myself. I bought two of his hit singles and still play them but missed some of the other songs in the original albums.
In addition to Chris's smooth vocals I enjoy the musical arrangements and backing vocals equally as much and some of the live performances retain a vibrant quality not often found in other " Live " performances.
In recent years when I became equipped for ( legal ) music downloads from popular download sites I was surprised that Chris Montez early Monogram recordings were available but not the songs he did for A&M. When I found this CD available I felt it was just a bit pricey but I did want to hear those songs and own them for myself on CD. I am often reluctant on buying compilation or re-issue CDs if they are not from the original label as you dont know if you will really get the original " Hit " version of the song that you remember or what the actual source was for making the CD you are buying. As far as I can tell the tracks featured in this CD are indeed the very same as featured on the original A&M Singles and LP Albums. The sound levels and quality may vary slightly from track to track indicating various sources may have been used in this compilation. If you want this music however, to me, it was well worth purchasing although I am still going to keep my eyes open for the original albums at flea markets, tag sales etc. For now however, I believe this CD is as close as you are going to get to having those original A&M Albums and this is close enough for me. The Hit Singles are in this one and some of the best Album Tracks as well. I would suggest buying this CD while they are still available.
Thanks, Polidor ( UK ) / Eclipse for making this compilation available.

Call Me Al.......2006-03-11
Nice album, well-produced, but in my opinion not nearly as good as his album "Play". Production quality as usual is excellent, but not as much a winner as Play. If you don't have any of his stuff, I recommend starting with Play first -- a truly awesome album. He's so... professional!
Truly a gifted bass player and songwriter.......2005-05-16
I love the tone and timbre that Alain Caron evokes from his basses. A funkier version of Jaco, he continues to create beautiful music and completely enjoyable jazz albums.
I own "Play", "Rhythm and Jazz", some Uzeb, and the album he did with Ecay and Lockwood - but I always come back to this cd as my favorite Caron. Check out the inventive line he lays down on "4 & 6", and you'll see why he's regarded as one of the greatest!
Great production always accompanies a Caron album. And his unparalleled bass-playing and imagination create another dimension that makes this type of jazz so much more interesting to listen intently to.
I'm thrilled to have come across this great bass talent. Call Me Awestruck.
I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:
Music quality = 8.6/10; Performance = 9.4/10; Production = 9.5/10; CD length = 10/10.
Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 9.1 ("4-1/2 stars")

Takes me back to the good old days!.......2006-08-01
This Album was one of my all time favorites growing up. My dad belonged to Columbia AND Capital Record clubs and purchased this album. I loved it! What a great collection of songs. His voice and style were so unique and romantic. I WISH it were available from Amazon in CD format so I could buy it. My personal favorites were "The More I See You" and "Another You" but they were all really good. So nostalgic. I think of him and his songs often wishing I could play them once more. For now, I have my dad's album and visit it in my imagination only. I hope Amazon gets it soon! Singer/Songwriter from Tucson, AZ
Good, but just average........2004-07-16
This is pretty decent. It has a Brazillian swagger to it, and it makes me think of riding the If You Could Fly ride at Disney World with all those pictures of the Mexican Beaches, and the girls in the bikinis. The 2 classic songs are "The More I See You", and my favorite "Call Me". There are some good covers here like Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon", and Bruce Channel's "Hey Baby", and "Little White Lies". I feel why this album didn't do any other damage was because Herb Alpert was starting to decline as far as any hit material, and after his "Whipped Cream" album he became more of a producer, and this was his first time producing another person's album. I feel that it was also because of the long drawn out period between this, and his hit "Let's Dance" back in 62 that people forgot who he was. In a sense it also helped out Alpert with his last major hit 2 years later with "This Guy's In Love With You". However, this album is pretty much average. Nothing really new to write home about.
Great Nastalgic Memory on CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-02
I remember this album a lot from my childhood. My dad always had it playin along with Baja Marimba Band records. I find Chris Montez's jazz/pop albums better than his early rock and roll roots. Every four albums he made for A and M records was great, and sounded the same, which was good. This album, Time After Time, and Foolin' Around are classics. Watch What Happens is a horrible though. Montez didn't want to do this style music, but producer Herb Alpert forced him into it after he got screwed with a record shares from his Let's Dance single. This remaster is a surprise. Now if they'd only made remastered Baja Marimba Band albums!
