Back on tour - first time in 10 years! .......2005-03-02
What a great album! "I didn't like like you very much when I met you, and now I like you even less". I revisited this Stuffies CD when I found out they're back on a US tour for spring 2005! Check out pollstar.com!
One of the Greats!.......2004-11-20
Listened to this again after about 10 years and found out AGAIN how much this is a classic. Every song is great and interesting in its own way. Can't believe more people aren't exploring things like this instead of the spoonfed crap out there now. Guess you had to be there and experience the time. This is a great album that does not come by that often. Please respect it!
Ah...the memories.......2004-03-04
This album brings back such memories. I remember being the only kid in 8th grade who had ever heard of The Wonder Stuff. I went to school with a bunch of geeks who preferred Madonna and Michael Jackson. I still quote Astley in the Noose whenever some 30-something friend starts swooning over Rick Astley ("Oh, he was sooooo cute!"). He hasn't got a use, but he's trying. If you like late 80s alternative Euro music with a sense of humor, check this out.
They Don't Make Music Like This Anymore[.].......2003-01-02
Song for song one of the Greatest Cds/albums ever made. Every song is great... I saw these guys several times in the late 80s and early 90s. It's a shame that they never hit it big here. Maybe that's a good thing. I listen to this cd and wonder why the radio [is] so badly these days. Maybe someday, one these ...bands that we hear so much on the radio will go back and listen to this album realize this is how you write pop music. Buy this Cd!! keep the legacy alive!! Long Live Miles Hunt!...

Addicting.......2004-02-14
Nicotine and Heroin have nothing on Holly McNarland. Most songs and artists require a few plays before you are hooked. Holly grabs you from the first note of that amazing voice. Her passion and emotions come through loud and clear and you know she gave a little piece of herself with every song. Your music collection will not be complete without this album.
Anything by Holly is worth her weight in gold!..........2002-12-10
I do not have this EP but I can assure anyone who has even listened to her...you will be really stunned at her power and passion! I saw her live a few years ago at the Lilith Fair and have been a fan ever since. I recommend BUYING EVERYTHING musically she has released! I just bought Home is Where My Feet Are and it was in one word - AWESOME! I haven't stopped listening to it and I would recommend any of her music to anyone! She's a diamond in the rough and just wait til the US audience wakes up to her...she's awesome and her music is everything and more! Wake up America...she is one of the best I have ever seen live and listened to!
Live Stuff is definitely worth it!.......2002-08-18
I've never seen Holly McNarland live even though she came to Ottawa recently, but "Live Stuff" is a brief example of how amazing Holly is live! Her voice can be powerful one minute and calm the next but it's always beautiful. This EP is worth it for her cover of "In the Air Tonight" alone. Hopefully Holly will gain more mainstream success in the United States soon!

The Rare 'Oul Stuff--a compilation of B-sides and key album tracks recorded by Shane MacGowan with post-Pogues backing band the Popes and spanning the years 1994 to 1998--is unlikely to enhance the singer's public profile, but only because it doesn't contain any of the songs that temperance-favoring laymen are likely to remember. Thus, there's no sign of the minor hits "My Way," "Haunted," or "That Woman's Got Me Drinking" but, perversely, certain noncharting A-sides are included. The best of these is the cinematically scored "You're the One" (cowritten with Michael Kamen), a duet with Maire Brennan which juxtaposes the Clannad singer's windswept, virginal vocal sensuality with Macgowan's Gainsbourg-esque cragginess--an unlikely artistic match. On the other hand, "Christmas Lullaby" is just dismal. Elsewhere, fans of fornication-flavored vocabulary, rebel songs (the historical "Roddy McCorley" and the more controversial "Paddy Public Enemy Number One," a tribute to deceased Irish Republican Dominic McGlinchey), blazing tin whistles, and banjos can't go wrong--even if the version of "Danny Boy" is a case of too much Shane. --Kevin Maidment
Album Description
21 track UK compilation of singles and more includes 'You're The One' featuring the stunning vocals of Naire Brennan, taken from the film 'Circle Of Friends' & the more traditional 'Danny Boy'. 2001.

BUY THIS RECORD!!!.......2005-08-10
Hey guys, if you are looking at this review , it means that you are potentially interested in picking up "Rare Oul' Stuff" by the inimitable Shane MacGowan. Let me save you the debate...BUY IT!!! Shane MacGowan is one of the true geniuses of our time. This album is a perfect jumping on spot for a new fan of Shane's solo and post-Pogues work as it contains tracks from both of his previous solo records and some harder to find stuff. Stand out tunes include "Aisling" and "Paddy Public Enemy No. 1." "You're the One" is a really tender ballad and one of Shane's duets which are always great tunes chock full of heart. "The Song With No Name" is a love tune that should be a wedding standard on par with "Annie's SOng" or "Grow Old With Me". Who doesn't understand when Shane says "...and now I pray for a single kiss from her to be lashed and crucified..." WOW! But lest you think that the spitting, drinking, swaggering MacGowan has gone soft, "Rock and Roll Paddy" should about knock your socks off with a rockin' melody and some pretty risque lyrics. Give this record a spin, I promise it will hang out in your player for a long time. It's still in mine.
Pogue to Pope.......2002-01-17
If you're a fool for the Pogues but have been disappointed with Shane MacGowan's 2 solo albums since HELL'S DITCH, this one might be worth the extra moola. It's basically a 21-track singles collection featuring his best songs off THE SNAKE & CROCK OF GOLD, which isn't a bad idea since both albums have their share of duds.
Hard-core fans will delight in some endearing B-side covers like, "Danny Boy" & Neil Diamond's "Cracklin' Rosie" of all things. It also features "You're the One", his duet with Naire Brennan off the "Circle of Friends". Another incentive to fork over the dough is "Rake at the Gates of Hell" a rarity from STAIGHT TO HELL, Shane's acting debut(if you want to call it that).
So, splurge. You won't miss the money and who knows how long it will be before a Pogues re-union album.

Canadian Holly McNarland is living testimony that good things come in small packages. On Stuff , the diminutive waif sings like a woman three times her size, belting out a brand of full-bodied rock and pop that seems to contain experience well beyond her 23 years. But then that's McNarland's style. Sporting tattoos, facial piercings and coiffed with a short, mottled cap of jet black hair, she might have stepped right out of some goth night spot in downtown Toronto. And, judging by more than a few of her song verses, she might just have gone through the kind of experiences she sings about. But while Stuff often touches on the rougher side of interpersonal, often sexual, relationships, it balances its coarseness with delicacy and maturity. --Nick Heil

" If you cared at all you'd put me down ".......2005-06-14
Amazing razor sharp lyrics and the perfect songs make this my favorite female rock cd of all time. Absolutely playable from beginning to end without any bullsh*t filler songs to be found.
My favorite tracks are UFO, Porno mouth, Elmo, I won't stay, Numb and Coward (in that order). Mystery song is sexy, something to strip to lol*
I saw Holly at Commodore two years ago and she is every bit as good live. Check her out if you have the chance. I recommend this cd, it's the best.
Joey Santiago!!!.......2005-01-08
i really like the pixies, surfer rosa was amazing and so was come on pilgram and doolittle. and then they broke up Black Francis became Frank Black and Kim Deal played with The Breeders. Well Joey Santiago played with Frank Black a little bit, but he also is the guitarist on this album. playing guitar on Holly McNarland's Stuff.
I enjoy this album Holly is a great signer, lyrics are okay, some of the best pixies inspired canadian pop. also check out Matthew Good Band both are from Vancouver.
I remember "Numb" and "Elmo" and "Coward" being well played singles in Canada at the time of this albums release, pick it up... but don't pay too much i got mine for $3
In My CD Player for the First Time.......2004-07-28
Usually, when I get a CD, I put it in and immediately start pushing the scan button to hear everything. Most often, I end up getting to the last track and removing the CD because nothing grabbed me. But with this disk, I put it in earlier and am on track 7 without scanning. I want to hear every song. It's very nice. She is pleasing to hear and some of the lyrics are already starting to jump out at me, which is refreshing. She has sort of a Cranberries meets Ani Difranco sound, but both of their best qualities, not the stuff that makes me not buy some of their stuff. She does b*tch rock with a vengance and turns around and tells sadness beautifully. I'm impressed.
Ferocious rock n' roll from a versatile prodigy........2003-02-23
Alanis Morissette may have gotten the attention, but Holly McNarland is the real deal -- angry yet rousing rock with feminist leanings.
On Stuff, her debut, McNarland bursts out firing on all sixes: "Numb"'s kinetic acoustic guitar propels the album into high-energy right out; "Elmo", despite its cutesy title, is a bleeding-throat, guitar-screeching banshee of a rock tune; and "The Box" is probably the catchiest, most rocking tune ever written about a yeast infection. But McNarland is far from a one-trick pony: "Water" is a lovely power ballad mourning the passing of a relationship, and McNarland's crooning vocal on the verses shows her to be much more versatile a singer than Morissette; "Coward" is a subtle and introspective mid-tempo number; "Mystery Song"'s keyboard-laden soundscape almost traipses Single Gun Theory territory, and "U.F.O." finds McNarland visiting a sweet range in her voice that would have fit comfortably on a Letters to Cleo album.
It would take McNarland years to follow this debut, but what a debut it was. Ignore the dumb cover and album title and dig into one of the fiercest and catchiest albums to have come out of Canada in the '90s.
Holy Holly!.......2002-08-18
One of the best female rock discs out there! A Canadian artist shadowed by Alanis Morissette. The voice is truthful and haunting. My favourites off this album are I Won't Stay, Numb, Coward, Porno Mouth to name a few. Any fan of women rockers should not be disappointed by this album.

JUST THE BEST!.......2006-02-11
I was giving this album by an old girlfriend of mine when it first came out and I still listen to it at least once a year. I don't remember the girl, but love the album. Flawless and timeless! I also saw them live and they blew me away!
Wonderful Album.......2001-10-13
Amazing, dense arrangements (including fiddle, mandolin, organs, harmonica and accordion, but always sticking to the rock/pop genre), clever and interesting songs. High-energy and highly recommended.
There is no point of going on if you don't own this!.......2001-01-20
This is the first recording of The Wonderstuff that I ever bought, and it was so amazing that I immediately went out and bought their two previous releases without a blink of the eye! This album is so good, it humbles and stuns the listener.Mission Drive has got to be one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard in my life, with Inertia following right behind it. Caught In My Shadow was the first song I ever heard, (actually I saw the video on 120 Minutes back in 1991), and I'll never forget where I was and how I was riveted to the TV! These guys are so talented, it's just a shame that they never received proper recognition here in the States.
Young americans, this one's for you.......2000-11-28
The wonder stuff known, if ever, for their early 90's single 'Dizzy'w/ Vic Reeves.'Never Loved Elvis' is thier 2nd album and their most colorful mixture of pop melodies, loud guitars, sneering lyrics, and touches of dance music, which is sometimes brilliant and sometimes banal, but never bad. Almost unknown in the U.S., but very promising in the U.K. a decade ago, with their basic, punk and new wave-inspired pop/rock, NLE was backed with handfull of top 10 singles like: 'Welcome to the cheap seats', 'Size of a cow', 'Caught in my shadow', all in the great tradition of "catchy & simple".Altogether, this one delivers the goods and making the days look much better. Not a must but very recommended.

One of the greatest CDs ever by one of the greatest bands.......2001-08-20
A great follow up to their first album (Eight Legged Groove Machine). It's a shame that this band never got that big in the US, but I had the pleasure and privilege of seeing these guys in the late eighties/early nineties. This one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Every song is catchy and not in a bad way. This release also has a couple of extras such as covers of "Gimme Some Truth" and the Young Rascals' "Get Together" which weren't released on the original album version but I beleive were released as singles during this time. No way to describe this cd except buy it. If you're sick of all of the music on the radio, this will bring you back to a time when music meant something.
ONE OF THE BEST BANDS.......2001-07-30
This band and this album are great - irresistable beat, truly hilarious lyrics and catchy rhythms. It has always amazed me that virtually no one knows them because they are really top notch. Kind of Elvis Costello, kind of the Jam.

Last will and testament of a great band.......2002-02-23
Popular opinion has it that this fourth and final Wonder Stuff record is supbar and easily ranks as the group's worst effort. I've always disagreed with this sentiment - and never moreso than I do now, some seven-plus years after its release. I think the lyrics are among the best that Miles penned while fronting The Wonder Suff, and the music is self-assured and confident. True, it's not as "fun" an album as some of their earlier work, but that was never the intent. It serves as the last will and testament of a truly great band. It commands respect and should be listened to with reverence. As Miles writes on "Sing the Absurd" - "I can reflect on the days when respect had nothing to do with behavior, and I can recall a day when we'd all laugh in the face of our failure." CFTMI is anything but a failure.

A true five star single 4 videos 2 hit songs 1 remix 1B-side.......2002-04-08
This single contains four tracks. Starting with Break Stuff, a hit song from Limp Bizkit's Significant Other album. Then there is an exclusive track called Crushed, which is a simple song, nothing special. The third song is Limp Bizkit's first hit Faith and the single ends with a remix of Counterfeit that sounds better than the original with a new melody backing Fred's vocals. Finally, there is a huge CD Extra when you put it into your CD ROM, four videos (Faith, Nookie, Re Arranged, and N2-Gether Now). The unfortunate thing about the videos first is that they are not full screen the lyrics are edited (no swears, no middle fingers like on MTV). There is an additional few seconds on each video from the originals on MTV, making this a true collector's item. Five star import all the way, one of the best imports in the world.
Break Stuff review (top song).......2001-03-02
WHAT CAN I SAY?????? Limp Bizkit u rule. This is the best rock song i have heard in my life. The lyrics are cool and so are the band. This is a song for everyone and is a good listen for any with a bad day at the office. This may be offensive like it says on the cover, but this makes the song. This track is wicked. There are so many good things to say about this track but there is not enough space to type them. Limp are the best.
Nice Single.......2000-06-11
This single is pretty hip. It has Faith, which appeared on Limp Bizkit's Three Dollar Bill, Y'all, Counterfeit, a song that also appeared on Three Dollar Bill, Y'all, appears in this Australian Break Stuff single, but mixed, and is now dubbed Counterfeit(Lethal Dose Mix), it has the album version of Break Stuff, the previously unreleased track, Crushed, and this great single has 4 music videos.4! It has the videos of Faith, Nookie, Re-arranged, and N2 Gether Now. This is a great single. Get It!

While I am no expert in this genre of music, I have not been able to stop listening to this CD ever since I got it. I found it to be energizing yet mellow. Soft and infectious. Poetic and smooth. Sensual. Funky yet subtle. This dude is amazing. Such creativity and originality. So incredibly talented. Trust me..you won't be disappointed!
