Wow Ernestine is one of the few singers of her age where her voice has gotten better...time has made this voice smoother just like silk. Ernestine this is simply a stunning recording a small combo and that glorious voice !!! what more could we ask for!!!!EXCEPT bring on the next release from Hoghnote...come on guys record this amazing LADY AGAIN!!!!and again.

If you love hot musicians with a singer that lives all her songs and can transport you there with passion and an Extraordinare Voice, then DO NOT MISS THIS GREAT SET!! "Sunny Side Of The Street" is brilliant and the definitive version of this classic and when this lady sings the blues it will be unlike anything you have heard before. "Nightlife" is the definitive version of this standard and has never sounded quite this great, "So Long" is down and dirty funky blues and "Bargain Day" is the ultimate blues performance! Masterpiece is what becomes of the title song "Love Makes The Changes" as Ernestine turns this Michel Legrande classic inside out!! Sample the songs and you will see what I mean if you love the classic vocalists and this one is the best!! Enjoy!!!!

This CD shows little of the power and soul we have come to expect from Ernestine. The glowing rewiew notwithstanding, there are far better outings in the EA catalogue. Check them out instead.

Words cannot begin to describe what a magical musical experience this classic work is! Ernestine Anderson has been recording since the fifties and her voice is like fine wine it just seems to get better with age!! This is without a doubt one of the greatest albums ever of a great singer with a small and cooking bunch of musicians who sound incredibly inspired by this Legendary Lady who should find Grammy calling this time around!!On the opening "Wonder Why", it is clear that this is going to be a set that features Jazz Singing as fine as it can possibly get!!!Another standard is given a definitive reading and "Nightlife (Ain't No Good Life)" is deeply soulful. Soft and sensual is "It's Easy To Remember" then comes the ride of a lifetime with an infectious take on the classic "On The Sunny Side Of The Street" which is given a masterful treatment by Ernestine that is unforgettable. Next is down and dirty funky blues and "So Long" and "Bargain Day" are both epic blues masterpieces that you will play over and over and wonder why this great singer isn't a household name. "This Time The Dream's On Me" is light and breezy and another totally amazing vocal as it is so refreshing and soft. Next Ernestine is light and breezy as only she can be and introduces her extraordinary group in the soulful romp "Everybody Eat's When They Come To My House" and proves that she is the hostess supreme! A masterful "Love Makes The Changes" becomes a riveting real life experience as Ernestine turns this Michel LeGrande classic inside out and is incredibly brilliant. Ernestine goes so deep inside this song that it becomes an anthem about lost love that compares to no other. "Pieces Of Dreams" is another Michel LeGrande classic that is completely haunting and a classic beauty that is breathtakingly beautiful. Closing this awesome collection is "The Party's Over" and Ernestine makes another classic all her own. This is a great singer who is incomparable and at her absolute peak. Mr. Cole's seriously sensual interpretation of lyrics and impeccable vocal styling allow him to get way down into your "soul". He gives "The Right to Love" deeper meaning, "A Sinner Kissed an Angel" new life, "Just the Way you Are" a swinging vocal rendition and absolutely makes all of the songs on this cd "his own". "Like a Quiet Storm", (which is his composition), with its subtle placement of words is beautiful. Kinda makes a gal wish she was the one with that "warm Brazilian flair" and he was singing this tune for her alone. Thank you Freddy for another fantastic cd.

Freddy Cole is sure to become a classic in the world of Jazz with this CD that speaks of the nature of love as in "Love Makes the Changes" and the importance of brotherly solidarity in the song "Brother Where are You". Cole's clean vocal phasing is coupled with the likes of Cedar Walton and Grover Washington, Jr. resulting in a CD that is both contemporary and classic.

Fabulous instrumentation and arrangements plus the voice of Freddy. This is one of those albums that always improves my mood when I play even the first few seconds of a track. Several of the songs such as Brother, Where Are You? come across as an interesting change of pace after the smoothness of Love Makes the Changes and On My Way To You. But the whole is definitely smooth in a vibrant way.

This CD is as refreshing as the mist of a voice spoken in the cold. All selections are crisp as the pink blossoms on the tree amid the frozen environs (the CD cover). It is Freddy at his best, along with the guest musicians. With this CD playing in the background, you can get your work done, or work on your groove!
