About the Artist
Eccentric rock virtuoso Mike Keneally was born Dec. 20 1961 in Long Island. Largely self-taught, he plays guitar and keyboards, sings and composes and produces and does a lot of other things, all of which are fascinating to listen to and nearly impossible to describe. He played in Frank Zappa's last touring band and has appeared on a bunch of Zappa albums, has recorded or performed with XTC, Robert Fripp, Sting, Kevin Gilbert, Steve Vai, The Loud Family, Henry Kaiser, Michael Manring, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Andy Prieboy, The Persuasions and scads of others, and has been producing solo works since the early 90's.

Keneally's most recent solo album, "Nonkertompf," prompted these comments by David Fricke in Rolling Stone magazine: "I saw guitarist Mike Keneally play with Frank Zappa in the 1980s, nimbly negotiating the maestro's knotty charts, and I've watched Keneally cook hard with his twisted-fusion outfit, Beer For Dolphins. But none of it prepared me for the color and density of 'Nonkertompf,' a whirl of thirty-five instrumental miniatures, played by Keneally in their entirety and advertising not only his spicy fluency on the guitar but a flair for hot melodic sabotage rooted, yet not imprisoned, in Zappology. The music flies mad and fast, but what the hell? You have a whole century to digest it."

Keneally's other releases include 1992's "hat.", 1994's "Boil That Dust Speck," 1996's "Half Alive In Hollywood" and 1997's "Sluggo!". 1995 brought the left-field classic "The Mistakes," which found Keneally teamed with Henry Kaiser, Andy West and Prairie Prince to scintillating effect. A number of things involving Keneally have been nominated for Grammies, and some of them have won. His music invokes such rabid fan response that a group of Keneally enthusiasts from around the world joined together in San Diego during the summer of 2000 to present "Nonkerstock," their own fan-produced-and-promoted tribute to all things Keneally, culminating in a performance by Keneally and his eight-piece band, Beer For Dolphins.

This band will be issuing its new album "Dancing" in late September of this year. About Keneally and Beer For Dolphins, Matt Resnicoff wrote in Time Out New York: "This band, with such a peculiar genius leading it, is a thing to savor."

Product Description
The first Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins album in three years, "Dancing" is well worth the wait. Mike has invited his finely tuned eight-member unit into the studio to lay down nearly 80 minutes of the most adventurous, yet heartfelt, MK/BFD music ever.

Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I have not stopped playing this cd. It is just great! It makes any trip in my car most enjoyable Happy I bought it!

5 out of 5 stars Mamma Mia Musical CD.......2007-03-21

This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!

4 out of 5 stars JUST GREAT MUSIC.......2007-03-08

I RECENTLY SAW THE SHOW MAMMA MIA IN LAS VEGAS. ALWAYS LIKES THE MUSIC OF ABBA, AND THOUGH THE PLOT WAS THIN, THE MUSIC WAS WELL PERFORMED. IN THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, THE ENGLISH ACCENTS WERE A BIT MUCH, BUT THE SONGS WERE GREAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ABBA.

5 out of 5 stars Mamma Mia.......2007-01-29

Every time I hear the music and songs it brings back memories of seeing the Broadway Show

1 out of 5 stars Not good at all.......2007-01-09

This is not what we wanted. The British accents throw it was off. We just saw it in NY and this is not what we were looking for.

If film and music fans sometimes wonder why soundtracks are often little more than pastiches of past pop hits and chart flavors of the moment, it's largely due to the blockbuster success of releases like this collection from 1987's surprise Patrcik Swayze/Jennifer Grey romantic hit. The film's retro-romantic concerns came shrewdly wrapped in a (largely manufactured) dance craze conceit tailor-made for such pop chestnuts as the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," the Zodiacs' "Stay," and the Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night." Mickey and Sylvia once again argued that "Love Is Strange"--if not quite as strained as Swayze's own attempt at balladry, "She's Like the Wind." Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes" showcased the former Raspberries leader to good effect, but the real soundtrack sweepstakes winner here was the Jennifer Warnes/Bill Medley duet "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." That performance not only won the Best Original Song Oscar the following year, but became one of the era's most performed songs and a ubiquitous radio staple. --Jerry McCulley

The Vestron film DIRTY DANCING is already twenty years old,in the aspect of production. August 14 marks the twentieth anniversary of its theatrical release. This CD features at least most of the material from the two soundtrack albums, including MORE DIRTY DANCING. The most memorable track,of course,is the Bill Medley/Jennifer Warnes duet (I'VE HAD THE)TIME OF MY LIFE. For more information, chack my review of the DIRTY DANCING soundtrack CD.

Album Description

Set against the decadent glamour and escalating danger of revolution-eve Cuba, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights re-imagines the 1987 film phenomenon from an exciting new perspective. Havana Nights tells a timeless story of a young woman's discovery of love, sensuality and independence - but with a sizzling style and rhythm all its own. In planning this new chapter in a beloved franchise, Artisan Entertainment and Miramax Films have put together a team of creative dynamos from the worlds of film, music and dance. Among them: maverick independent producer Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting); executive producer Sarah Green (Frida); Academy Award. winning screenwriter Ron Bass (Rain Man, My Best Friend's Wedding); director Guy Ferland; screenwriter Pamela Gray (A Walk on the Moon); choreographer Joanne Jansen; music industry legend Clive Davis, whose hot J Records imprint will release the soundtrack; acclaimed actor Diego Luna, a rising star following his performance in the sexy sensation Y Tu Mama Tambiin; and, in what promises to be a breakout role, gifted young actress Romola Garai (recently seen in Nicholas Nickleby). The resulting film is certain to give audiences - from newcomers to those who cherish the first Dirty Dancing - the time of their lives, and then some!

5 out of 5 stars Dirty Dancing - Havan Nights Soundtrack.......2007-04-07

Purchased for my daughter and myself after seeing the film. It is a lively mix of sultry, sensual salsa music which gets the feet moving and the singing and body going too! Exciting! Motivating! Fun! Not just for latin music lovers but for people who love life and enjoy being ALIVE!!!!!
Right up there with Otmar Liebert with Nouveau Flamenco and The Gypsy Kings to get the juices flowing and the body grooving to the music! We love it!

2 out of 5 stars not good.......2007-03-13

These songs are cheesy and not even close to good latin dance music

5 out of 5 stars Let the rhythm take you away.......2007-03-08

Was your foot tapping as your watched the movie? Even if you didn't like the film buy this CD and let the lating rhythm take you away.

5 out of 5 stars Havana Nights.......2007-02-08

I did not care for the movie Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights but the soundtrack is AMAZING. It has everything from slow dancing to fast step dancing type of music. I would tell anyone who loves Latin music that this soundtrack is a must have.

4 out of 5 stars Very Impressive.......2007-01-27

I was very impressed with this CD. When I watched the Havana Nights, the thing that captivated me was the MUSIC. This soundtrack had all of the best songs from the movie in it! My favorites:

-Dance Like This
-Satellite (both versions)

But it is hard to pick favorites, because all the songs are good. If you found yourself wanting to get up and dance when you heard the music in this movie - DEFINITELY buy the soundtrack. It'll be a great addition to any collection.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Second Offering.......2007-06-25

It's not often I purchase an album where all the songs stand out, but this second release from Eisbrecher really comes out kicking all the way to the end.

The guitars come over a lot heavier in this mix yet still compliment the synth sequences. The end result is a real deep and bone crunching track list.

Vocally, Alexx performs excellently providing the necessary front-man style needed for this genre of music. And let's face it, vocals sound more powerful and meaningful when sung in German.

Eisbrecher have hit the mark with this CD, something Rammstein should have done but fell short of with their Rosenrot release.

4 out of 5 stars Good sophmore album..........2007-05-13

I've been following Eisbrecher for a while now and their a great band. Their trip rock is outstandin!!! Their new album Antikorper follows in the foot steps of their first one. Very good electronica with hard riffs. Good stuff!!! The only difference was that their music got alot harder. At first i was dissapointed and thought they sounded alot more like Rammstein...Which is not bad but still..Eisbrecher always sounded alot different. But as i listend to it more and more it seperated itself and was truly a good album...If you like a good electronic rock album with good singing ....get this album and their first...

5 out of 5 stars Rammstein Who????.......2007-05-04

This is my first Eisbrecher CD since Rammstein. All I have to say is, WOW!!! It's some of the BEST industrial heavy metal I have heard in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time. It's good people, VERY GOOD!!

4 out of 5 stars Very Nice.......2007-05-03

A very solid album with plenty of good songs. The second half of the CD gets better, with more variety in the sound, and there are a few really outstanding tracks like Vergissmeinnicht and Ohne Dich.

4 out of 5 stars Couldnt wait for the 2nd album,.......2007-04-07

I loved their first disc and this one follows right along with it. Nice follow up album.

2 out of 5 stars Break Out Your Glowsticks and Lollypops.......2007-07-09

You think that the passing of four years would have a world-class DJ evolving? Even a little? Well, think again. The Politics of Dancing, Vol. 1 was released in 2001, and this second volume demonstrates no clear progression in Paul Van Dyk as a DJ. He still choses to feature as many short anthem tracks as possible on each disc with the ever present "bubblegum" trance overtones. Conjures up images of a time when it was cool to wave glowsticks around at a club or rave.

Paul Van Dyk is great spinning live, but the majority of his commercial compilations leave a lot to be desired.

Both discs get 2/5 stars.

3 out of 5 stars Music to interpretive dance to.......2007-06-30

The only dancing this inspires me to do is dance over to my stereo to put in a different CD. I stopped listening to him after Out There and Back and I see that haven't missed much in the last several years. I admit there might be a couple of toe-tappers in here somewhere but I've lost my patience, you're better off buying something...I don't know, good, like Markus Schulz's Miami '06 or anything put out by Armin van Buuren in the last two years. Into the trash with you! Goodbye five dollars.

4 out of 5 stars PVD Does it Again!.......2007-02-06

This CD is wonderful! Disk one is amazing, there is so much variety in the tracks and they just get better as the disk goes on. I didn't think disk two was as good as disk one, but overall, the CD was definately worth the price!

5 out of 5 stars I'll Sleep When I'm Dead book review.......2007-05-20

Very interesting. It gives some good details into the life of Warren zevon, showing the things that tortured, but created the artist. You learn alot about the man.

4 out of 5 stars Reading the book? Buying the reissues? Don't overlook "Bad Luck Streak...".......2007-05-07

Tracing Warren Zevon's career from his self-titled "first" album, to this one, you can certainly see some slippage. "Warren Zevon" represented the fruits of several years of writing songs in obscurity -- great songs, as it turned out. "Excitable Boy" didn't have as many good songs, but it had enough, and it was zesty and captured its moment, bringing the pugilistic spirit of Norman Mailer, Hunter S. Thompson or Ernest Hemingway into rock for the first time. "Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School" is actually a better album than "Excitable Boy," but at the time it came out it was treated like a disappointment. Musically, it is as sophisticated as "Warren Zevon." The string interludes are actually quite beautiful. The sad ballads "Empty Handed Heart" and "Bed of Coals" are quite affecting and artful. "Gorilla You're a Desperado" and "Play it All Night Long" are two of his funniest lyrics, and the title tune is efficient and cinematic in its depiction of a loser running out of luck in an unlikely place. "Bill Lee," about a maverick baseball player of the 1970s, is a brief song in three parts, a perfect little profile in music and words. The two weakest songs are "Jungle Work," which strikes me as a rehash of the great "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner," and "Jeannie Needs a Shooter," which is supposedly a collaboration with Bruce Springsteen (but I don't believe it.) But they are listenable -- you don't skip them. I love the final track, "Wild Age," a hard-rocking meditation on the fear parents have that their kids might go bad and never come back. Can't help but think he was worrying about himself as well as his kids, because as we know, he was trying and failing to deal with his alcoholism at this time.

Like "Excitable Boy" and a few of his other albums, this one is full of guest musicians, rock royalty of the late 70s. The best of them are Linda Ronstadt, a lovely duet partner on "Empty Handed Heart" and part of the background chorus on "Bed of Coal," and David Lindley, who fires up several songs here with his broad-gauge slide guitar.

This is a record that will grow on you. It doesn't fulfill the promise of that first album (the one with "Poor Pitiful Me" and "Desperados Under the Eaves," but it's his attempt to get back there, and when it works, it's fine.

4 out of 5 stars Play them all night long!.......2005-03-05

This album did not spawn many hits as 1978's EXCITABLE BOY did. On the cover we see the late Warren Zevon, who died of lung cancer in 2003,standing inside of a dancing studio filled with beautiful female students. The only memorable song is PLAY IT ALL NIGHT LONG,which would appear on the compilation,THE BEST OF WARREN ZEVON-A QUIET NORMAL LIFE. The lyrics are pretty much silly("Grandpa pissed his pants again,he don't give a damn."). How about "Grandpa's doing sister Sally,Grandma's dying of cancer now."? Isn't that silly? PIALN is a ode to Lynyrd Skynyrd and their signature song SWEET HOME ALABAMA. Another lyric from the song is "play that dead band's song". Three LS members were killed in a plane crash in the seventies. The other songs are cool.

5 out of 5 stars Warren Zevon's Third Great Album In A Row.......2004-08-01

BAD LUCK STREAK IN DANCING SCHOOL is Warren Zevon's third great album in a row. Zevon had gone clean and sober for the first time when this CD was recorded, and it didn't dull his sense of humor one bit. On the title track, he examined his bad habits in a sarcastic manner which anyone with ANY addiction (drugs, alcohol, tobacco, food, caffeine) can understand, while "Jungle Work" humorously describes mercenary violence in a way that inspired me to do what I need to in order to remind myself that "carb" stands for the names of four politicians who support such actions (Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Bush). The other songs are all great, too, and you should pick up this CD.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Zevon Album.......2004-06-01

A couple of years ago, some friends and I were talking about the top 3 albums we would want if we were stranded on a desert island (with power, of course). My #1 choice would be "Bad Luck..." Zevon's classical training shines here, colliding with his off-the-wall lyrics, resulting in perfection.

4 out of 5 stars Bellydance Superstars Moves You.......2007-04-04

Enjoyed this group of belly dance numbers very much. I personally prefer more instrumentals, but, hey, nothing is perfect. The music is energetic and does get you moving. I give it a solid four stars

5 out of 5 stars Bellydance Superstars .......2007-01-15

If you are a dancer you need the Superstars CDs. Good mixed discs, you get a taste of a lot of different artists without looking for 12 discs and you don't need to read Arabic. Pretty fast tracks, warm up with something slower, I like Arabic Lounge set.

5 out of 5 stars Good usable material.......2007-01-12

Excellent contemporary bellydance music, most very usable. The only problem is its popularity.

Egyptian-style and American-Cabaret dancers would probably get the most out of it.

5 out of 5 stars Do you want to dance your feet off??? .......2006-10-18

This is the CD to do just that! Dance, dance and more dance. Exhilirating music from the best of Middle Eastern popular belly dancing music. Very light, very enjoyable, perfect for any party mix. Authentic, yet diversified. Ideal for parties, long drives, getting your housework done in a good mood, and just for the simple pleasure of the lively Arabic beat. Love this CD.

2 out of 5 stars Dollars and (common) cents........2007-06-12

I'm going to rate this CD based on a $1 per song cost to total cost for the entire CD (Apple and Rhapsody charge $1 per song).
The Kink's CDs really put a person in a 'State of Confusion'. I have yet to find a CD collection with all of the Kink-essential songs on it. This CD is bad because it doesn't have all of the essential songs, AND to top it off two of the songs are LIVE versions. What a rip off!
The essential songs are: Come Dancing, Catch Me Now I'm Falling, Lola, You Really Got Me, All Day and All of the Night, Destroyer, and Around the Dial (if I'm missing any, please let me know).
So, you have to pay $14 to buy the CD on Amazon, but you are only getting $3 worth of original, great songs (Come Dancing, Catch Me Now I'm Falling and Destroyer). You can buy the songs Destroyer, Around the Dial and Catch Me Now I'm Falling for $1 each on iTunes. (Unfortunately, iTunes and Rhapsody don't currently sell the other essential songs I've listed.)
Ray Davies is really making it hard for us to get all of his best songs in one place, but by doing so, I'm sure he's making a heap of money from us all.
Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Forget to Dance.......2007-03-16

When I was in high school, I loved the hard-edged sound of the Kinks, the Who, etc. Much later, the Don't Forget to Dance video really touched me for some reason.

I noticed that most Kinks collection lack this masterpiece. Now, it is my all-time favorite Kinks song. Although I still love the more hard-edged songs by them and Lola which defies description, I plan to buy this collection to have Don't Forget to Dance along with many other fine songs.

5 out of 5 stars My high school students gave up rap for this!.......2006-11-05

I had forgotten just how much fun the Kinks were, then I purchased the CD for the song Come Dancing and had no idea that I would know all the other songs on the CD. My 14-18 year old art students pick this CD over rap and current artists to listen to whiile creating art works. It is just plain old fun!

4 out of 5 stars they always delivered the goods.......2006-08-22

The 70's-80's Kink era was considered the weaker material but when you listen to this compilation, they still put out lots of quality material.

Their sound and approach changed a bit, they obviously went more commercial, and they lacked some of their original identity yet these are still great songs. 30 years later, this was not a weak era and they put out a lot more good stuff then most other bands.

Rock and Roll fantasy, Detroyer, Celluloid Heroes, Don't forger to dance, Superman are all killer songs.

I would like to see one day when they get a boxed set w/You Really Got me era, Lola era and their hard rocking Destroyer era.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST.......2006-03-16

I REMEMBER LISTENING AND SINGING TO THE KINKS AS A 10 YEAR OLD CHILD. GREAT CD. RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY.
