By this 1997 recording, John McLaughlin seemed far from the searing drive and intergalactic quest for Nirvana of his Mahavishnu Orchestra. But was he? Less youthfully optimistic, sure. At its heart, this music projects both mature contemplation and foreboding intensity. McLaughlin remains, undoubtedly, a giant master of supercharged single-note runs. His compositions' structures still emphasize braided interaction among the players, which his outfit here achieves to startling effect. Drummer Dennis Chambers is crucial. His shifting pace, color, and emphasis are charged with an astonishing authority and reserves of muscularity. That permits the band to dart and charge at one moment, then pause to float. In the open spaces, hornman Gary Thomas is at his anxious best, while keyboard giant Jim Beard grooves delightedly. --Peter Monaghan

John Rutter Collection.......2007-02-19
This CD is one of several that features Rutter directing his own choir. It has a good cross section of the John Rutter compositions, and is a good starting place for someone who has not heard Rutter's music before. I think you will be "hooked" if you really love choral music.
Typically gorgeous Rutter.......2005-12-20
I love John Rutter's music. Especially the "For the Beauty of the Earth" that is on this CD. Rutter is not the most inventive or varied composer of modern music, but if you have a taste for traditional choral writing with some angelic children's chorus singing, then you will probably share my enjoyment of Rutter's writing. Unfortunately I cannot give this CD 5 stars when it seems there is a drum set tapping annoyingly away on several of the songs. I do not understand this at all and am bothered by it every time I listen to those songs. It's a shame, because otherwise I love the music, and think it is lushly written, and simply but beautifully performed. I would highly suggest listening to sample track 3 before purchasing -- you can hear what sounds like a ride-cymbal right at the very end of the sample. This sound occurs in several of the songs on this recording.
Wonderful!.......2005-12-03
I am a huge John Rutter fan. The lilting melodies, the poignant lyrics and the lush orchestrations make his music not only accessable but also uplifting. This compilation, although drawing from many other previous recordings, is a great composite of his wirk. The sound is exquisite. Even if you own other recordings of this music, this is worthwhile.
To sample Rutter's best music, this is the one........2005-06-30
I purchased this CD as an introduction to the music of John Rutter and went on to purchase many more of his compositions. Still, this remains my favorite collection. It is choral music at its absolute finest. Far from "just church music", this CD has songs of faith, a few Christmas carols, a Celtic song for lovers, and even a child's tune or two. While most of the pieces are peaceful, warm, and thought-provoking, a few are up-tempo and lively. In my opinion, it is a perfectly balanced collection in which one song flows beautifully into the next with no sense of a jarring change of pace. If you have any interest in choral music, begin with the best...John Rutter... and this superb arrangement. Highly recommended.
The Best.......2005-04-29
The John Rutter Collection in my opinion is one of the finest and most perfect works I've ever heard. The Cambridge Singers demonstrates the best vocal discipline and style of any vocal group in the world.

Customer Reviews:
Introducing the Greatest Voice of All Time.......2007-03-13
A new generation of music lovers deserves to know, understand and appreciate the greatness of Mario Lanza. Five decades after his passing, millions of lovers of "grand voices" still are held in awe by the power, passion and beauty of his voice.
This selection of recordings has a number of fine selections that give a small "flavor" of his fantastic talent and skills. It is a good beginning for someone who wants to know "The American Caruso."
The Greatest Tenor of the 20th Century........2007-01-21
In a professional career that lasted just a bit over ten years Mario Lanza created more memorable recordings, broadcasts, concert perfomances and feature films than any other major vocalist in the classical and pop-jazz music genre. He was a man blessed with arguably the finest tenor voice in recorded music. Fans of Caruso, Pavarotti, Jan Peerce, Placido Domingo or Careras may argue that their tenor interpreted a particular aria better than anyone else but few if any can argue against the sheer beauty, power and emotion of Mario Lanza. He achieved worldwide success too fast and his penchant for the good life: wine, women and good food got the best of him in the end. It is so sad, when one contemplates Lanza's short but brilliant career and what might have been, that he was gone at age 38, an age when some tenors are just beginning to hit their stride. This album is a fine overview of some of his most memorable heavy classics as well as lighter operetta standards and showcases his voice so well. Nearly fifty years have transpired since his untimely death in 1959 and there is yet to appear on the scene a tenor with the power, charisma or sheer beauty of Lanza's voice. I highly recommend this album to the Lanza novice or those just starting their Opera CD collections.
Easy listening.......2006-02-27
I have always liked Mario Lanza and the album is wonderful and relaxing.
Lanza of the joyous voice!.......2005-07-14
This album has some really splendid songs, and yes, it's a good introduction to the King of the high last notes. I grew up with one of Lanza's albums and more or less learned to sing by singing along with his wonderful warm voice. What good energy he had... and too bad he died so young (sigh). It certainly lifts my spirits to listen to his music again and I hope anyone reading this will take a chance and get to know him too.
Not bad as an introduction to Lanza.......2001-11-13
I recommend this collection as a good starting point for those interested in this extraordinary tenor. It's not a complete representation of the man by any stretch of the imagination, but it includes a handful of unforgettable recordings that will make newcomers to Lanza sit up in astonishment.
Highlights include the immortal Serenade & Golden Days from The Student Prince, Beloved (from the film version of the Student Prince, and arguably Lanza's best English-language love song), Because You're Mine, If I Loved You, and the stirring Addio Alla Madre from Cavalleria Rusticana. If love songs seem a little over-represented at the expense of arias and (notably) Italian & Neapolitan Songs, then blame BMG for their habitual neglect of Lanza's more serious side. In any event, this is essentially a one-CD version of the three-CD set, The Mario Lanza Collection. All of the renditions are the same as on the earlier CD, as are the sound sources. With the exception of The Student Prince Serenade, most of the selections here have never sounded better.
Be aware, however, that several of the arias are in fact retakes of more familiar versions. Vesti La Giubba, for instance, is an alternate take from Lanza's May 1950 session, and although the tenor is in great voice, the orchestra lets him down on the climactic phrase by moving on before he has finished his High A on the word "infranto". The Flower Song is even more unrestrained than the familiar take - great fun, but not the kind of recording you'd want newcomers to Lanza to hear! (Lanza never quite "nailed" this aria, but his heart was in the right place.) La Donna E Mobile is the familiar 1950 version in the first half, but is replaced by an inferior retake in the second half, followed by an edited-in High B ending (on "pensier") from the original recording!
The only truly bad recording is the inexplicably popular With A Song In My Heart. Lanza is unfocused, and strains his way throughout the piece. Yours Is My Heart Alone is somewhat better, but is easily surpassed by the tenor's 1956 recording with the conductor Henri Rene (and currently unavailable on CD).
The "Greatest Hits" are here: the million-selling Be My Love, Loveliest Night of The Year and the aforementioned Because You're Mine. I have to confess to an aversion to the first two - Lanza was often a far better singer than these recordings suggest - but most fans, I'm sure, will continue to cherish them. Besides, what tenor since Lanza has ever sung Be My Love without straining his way through the wretched thing and then fudging the High C at the end? Lanza made it his own, and to be fair to the song, it is actually a very difficult piece to pull off, as Messrs Domingo, Carreras and Leech will no doubt attest. But that was also one of Lanza's most under-appreciated strengths - he made everything sound so easy. Listeners accustomed to the laborious efforts of most present-day tenors will be astounded by the freshness, ease, and sheer bravado of these performances.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

As the line in the opening track, "The Peanut Vendor", says: "Fifty million monkeys can't be wrong." And back in 1971, the purchasers of this debut LP (originally The King's Singers: By Appointment) found overwhelming proof in its vinyl grooves that a refreshingly new quality product was on the market. Soon the unlikely lads known as The King's Singers were all over television screens in the company of the likes of Val Doonican, Shirley Bassey, and Nana Mouskouri--also, of course, performing bucketloads of serious repertoire in concerts. For those who rushed to buy the original, this re-release is a real trip down memory lane, the excellent sound enhanced by the extra detail and color in the CD transfer (though, please note, there's less than 35 minutes of music). "Cherry Ripe," "Scarborough Fair," and Bacharach's "Wives and Lovers" are here, along with lots more, performed with that familiar mix of vocal perfection and effortless poise and complemented by the discreet contribution of the Gordon Langford Trio. --Andrew Green
Customer Reviews:
King's Singers Debut.......2007-01-12
I am a real fan of the King's Singers, and this album was very well received. I loved it. Recommend it to anyone.
Thirty years old: still terrific.......2003-02-02
We have loved this album for 30 years. We are so pleased it has been released on CD. It was originally part of a very small collection of gramophone records, and is now one of hundreds of CDs, but it is one we keep playing and playing.
The singing is flawless, the songs are wonderful and the arrangements are very clever. What more could you want?
It includes The Kings' Singers theme song, "What Kind of Things (do the Kings' Singers sing?)" which is a humorous description of the variety in their music and in their vocal ranges.
Other highlights are:
Summertime, which is quite close to the orignal sheet music, carefully arranged for 6 voices.
The folk song Scarborough Fair adheres quite closely to the Simon and Garfunkel arrangement, whereas The Oak and the Ash and Blow Away the Morning Dew are special creations for the group by Gordon Langford.
Time Was and The Green Leaves of Summer show the group's ability to create a wonderful mood through slow, soulful singing.
Highly recommended. Timeless music.
This is vintage King's Singers!.......2001-06-09
In the thirty or more years that the King's Singers have been going, they've released dozens of CDs. And as much as I adore some of their recent recordings, I still regard this first album as some of their best work.
This performance is both of a very high quality and is also a magnificent showcase of the variety of things the King's Singers sing. I doubt you would find many other recordings which contain works by Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, Bacharach as well as traditional folksongs from the British Isles and America - especially not recordings that are of such a high standard. The vocal harmonies are just delicious, and the Gordon Langford Trio also provides a brilliant accompaniment and gives songs like The Peanut Vendor, Shenandoah and Summertime a delightful relaxed feeling. Then there is also the lighthearted and whimsical What Kind of Things - a song all about what sort of music the King's Singers sing!
I was going to give this CD four stars rather than five (mainly because I hesitate to give top marks to anything ever - I know, I'm picky), but in the end I honestly couldn't think of anything which would justify taking a star away. It's worth all five!

Awesome.......2006-08-10
This is honestly one of the best CD's I have ever purchased.... Every song is different in it's own way. My favorite songs are February, and Streetcar.
I'm gonna keep it simple... GO BUY THIS CD RIGHT NOW!
ATFEH is KIND OF like The Early November, with screaming. They sound alittle like Before Yesterday, but much better in my opinion. So...um..what are ya waitin' for?
not quite ready for prime time........2006-05-09
someone get this band a producer and put them in a decent studio, please. the recording and mixing on this disc is flat-out atrocious. download a few tracks and hear for yourself.
'feburary' and '99 with an anchor' show promise.
otherwise it's taking back sunday meets hawthorn heights meets fallout boy meets .... you get the picture.
A very fresh and original take on the genre.......2006-04-07
After hearing the 30-second sample of "February," I immediately went and downloaded all the songs from this album. But then, I ordered a copy from Amazon because I felt that A Thorn For Every Heart certainly deserved my $10 for this excellent album.
On this album, the band sets themselves apart from the typical screamo pack, a scene that's not exactly brimming with talent or originality. They are very adept at blending emo, post-hardcore and even a smattering of thrash. To me, they sound up the alley of Armor for Sleep and Thursday (both of whom I love). There's not much punk influence here, which I think is a good thing -- the lyrics are more mature and thoughtful than pop-punk, and as far as I can tell there are no references to high school. The songs also have tempo changes, which is not seen often enough in screamo, but is welcome here.
What drew me in so strongly to "February" (which is the best song on the album and is simply brilliant) was the dual-vocal harmony in the chorus -- it's just amazing. Writing one set of lyrics with melody is hard enough, but these guys can double it up with great results, which shows how skilled they are as songwriters despite their young age. This song is so full of energy and genuine emotion (without screaming!), it's practically impossible for me to not hit "back" on my CD player and hear it again -- it's that good.
"99 With An Anchor" is a fantastic opener, really setting the tone for the rest of the album. Usually singing/screaming combos in this genre get a little grating, but in this case it works like a charm. My favorite part of the song is when the boys sing, "We all have, we all have someone..." The melody is just awesome.
"Streetcar" (with its great lyrics of "After what you did, why should I care?") and the final track (which features some great synth) are also standouts. There is no track on here that I skip, although I agree with the other reviewer that there is too often a single-mindedness in their approach to the songs -- which is apparently to beat the crap out of every track. Hopefully the band will progress and write songs that lull and meander in spots and build anticipation -- something that doesn't happen in any of these songs, which are generally full of full-tilt energy. Although, the energy is certainly infectious.
And one reviewer remarked that the production is terrible -- it definitely isn't. The vocals (which sound awesome) were given so much attention that the guitars specifically suffer on the album. The guitars are mixed pretty weakly, which is a shame and a big no-no in my opinion. The guitars rest mostly in the background when they should have been huge in the mix with the gain cranked. The album would've sounded a lot different (and better) with the guitars sharp and chunky, but instead they're just warm and a bit muted. On a side note, the violins used on the album seem out of place and unnecessary -- the four instruments quite nicely stand on their own feet; anything extra is more or less a distraction.
And I also wonder why the drummer on this album isn't a regular member in the band (they still don't have a regular drummer) -- he's very talented, and it's a shame they don't keep him around. Revolving drummers in a band doesn't usually help its sound solidify or progress.
Despite a few flaws, this album definitely rocks and I would recommend it without hesitation. It's different, and that counts for a lot in my book.
emotional, but not the pu$$y emo........2006-04-06
i heard this cD from one of my good friends and loved it right from the start. They are a very talented band and they created something a little more original to be considered there own.
I read over alot of the reviews and a lot of them are B@LL $H1T. one person said the recording was bad, well.. its not there fault u DL the cr@ppy versions. Buy the actual cD and it sounds good, just a little quieter, all the more reason to listen to them loudly! and alot of people are saying that they wanna see more slower and lovy duvy songs.. idk about you, but this album intreged me because of the fact that they created something emotional that wasnt your average pu$$y emo. they didn't ruin it with any MTV $H1T.
For hard core listeners, this is a good ALBUM to broaden your taste and bring out that inner side of you W/O being a flamming PU$$Y! As for you ATFEH! Keep up the amazing work and please don't go mtv emo pu$$y on us! you have an amazing talent, keep up the exceleant work!
Great.......2006-03-29
A Thorn For Every Heart was a band that I just recently started listening to. What really blew me away was the originality of their music. Someone in a previous review stated that "if they had put this cd on shuffle, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the songs" or something like that. This is somewhat true. Every single song has a different sound but they do mix different paced beats in EVERY SINGLE song. However, I think this gives them their originality, because they have a sound that is totally different from anyone else in their genre. I would recommend this cd to someone who is an avid emo/rock listener but wants to check out something different.
*side-note* Someone else said this before, but you should really take the time to listen to the songs before you go out on a 'whim' and buy it because of the mixed paces.

Album Description
You Can Relax Now offers nine songs to soothe, inspire and uplift the listener. Some tell a story, some weave a chant, some offer a new look at familiar spiritual concepts. Each song, in its own way, affirms the presence of the Divine in all things. The collection includes: "Each Holy Child" and other new songs by Shaina, a revisiting of "You Can Relax Now" which was first recorded for her "Songs For The Inner Child", "All Is Well", and innovative interpretations of "Silent Night" and "Angels Watching Over Me". Shaina's distinctive vocals are backed up by her own work on piano and keyboards, lush harmonies, guitar, cello and recorder.

Inspired Singing.......2004-02-05
If you are looking to uplift your mood-or your consciousness-listen to Shaina Noll. This new CD, You Can Relax Now, is as charming as Songs for the Inner Child, her first. Again, each piece is sung with simplicity, love and clarity. Sheer elegance. The recorder, cello, guitar and piano add richness.
I've always felt that Shaina simultaneously sings to two universal themes within us: the vulnerable inner child and the expansive realized One. She's doing it again--holding our hand as we proceed on the journey.
Shaina writes to the listener: ..."each of these songs deeply supported me in making the transition from a life based in fear to a life based in trust." Her accomplishment with that transition resonates in the way she sings each song.
I use Shaina's collections to soothe myself or help my friends relax at difficult times. I heartily recommend this CD for your library, for the quiet times when you want to connect with the Divinity that you are, and the Divinity that surrounds you.
Lullabies for Stressed Adults.......2004-01-23
Shaina Noll's musical talents are an important piece of the beauty of this CD. Her voice is clear, pure, and seems effortless and unforced at all times. The arrangements are wonderful, soothing, and relaxing. But to me the most powerful part of this is the spiritual energy and healing love which infuses every song.
Shaina's CDs are an important and powerful part of my own healing journey. As with so many people, I find myself often struggling with fears and doubts."You Can Relax Now" is perfect for those times, offering what I experience as lullabies for adults, powerful because there is nothing artifical or inauthentic in them, but they are straight from Shaina's heart. At times they contradict my old recordings so exactly that many healing tears come. At other times I simply remember to breathe again, more deeply. When I need to, I can imagine myself curled up in her lap, being sheltered from the storms of life.
The qualities of unself-conscious, un-held-back genuine tenderness and love and reassurance expressed in these CDs are quite rare in my experience. They could only have come from her dwelling in the truth she sings. She sings as if there is no one to impress, no one to convince, no one watching and judging, just a pure offering of love. What a precious gift!
Beautiful Music for the Holidays.......2002-11-01
The CD "You Can Relax Now" invites its listeners to slow down,
and allow themselves to be soothed by Shaina Noll's angelic, nurturing voice and gentle, contemplative music. Shaina accompanies herself artfully on piano and with rich harmonizing vocals, and is supported by other talented musicians as she weaves together storytelling and chants offering the message that 'All Is Divine'.
This spiritually inspired and eloquently soulful CD has a clarity and simplicity which, while very relaxing, is also deeply moving.
I particularly like listening to it in my art studio, where it helps me sink into a quiet place in myself that supports creative
inspiration and expression.
I highly recommend this beautiful CD as the holidays approach. Its
serenity and affirmation of the Divine in each of us, is a welcome
alternative to traditional seasonal music.
- Laura Ellis
Beautiful!.......2002-10-20
Since I first played this CD I have listened to it with my children every night as they go to sleep. This recording is truly a masterpiece! Soothing to the heart and yet musically so beautiful. The harmonies move my heart. Shaina and Richard have so masterfully but together some beautiful work. You can "hear" the love they have to share with the world.
Another amazing creation from the Singing Heart.......2002-10-09
My experience with Shaina personally has been so pleasant. Even though I am only a fan she has been kind to answer my e-mails and questions I have. Shaina's music comes from years of personal work and also caring for her children. You can hear the love she shares with her husband through his contributions to her latest recording, You Can Relax Now. I am a minister/therapist in the upstate area of SC and regularly use Shaina's music to soothe my patients and encourage them to relax and meditate. It helps them into a place where they can open up in our sessions and begin to heal. My own experience has been one of healing as well and I have spent many hours listening to Shaina Noll's haunting, soothing melodies from her Singing Heart. She has through her music helped me along my own journey with Spirit and the qualities of her music have healed my heart and mind and opened the well of my soul. Shaina's music tells us we can relax and live at Peace as we were intended to all along. What a relief!

Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13
Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.
I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.
A Must Have .......2006-12-12
I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.
The Mario Lanza Collection.......2006-11-10

extract from most important LPs. Brilliant sound quality from RCA. Also included are soundtrack recordings from some of his movies. The are several reissues from Mario Lanza but this one is a collection you should have.
WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19
The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.

The Kronos Quartet have been luminaries of modern Western classical music for more than thirty years. So despite their previous forays into world music, a headlong dive into the alternative universe of Bollywood (Bombay-plus-Hollywood) soundtracks may seem somewhat incongruous. But Kronos leader David Harrington is a longtime fan of composer R.D. Burman¹s florid pop extravaganzas, which propelled an already saturated palette into day-glo and beyond. To get the project off the ground, he had to convince one of India¹s prolific and versatile "playback" singers to come on board. The legendary Asha Bhosle is a renowned Burman interpreter so securing her services was a major coup. To replicate the reverb-laden "wall of sound" typical of Burman arrangements, Kronos and Ashaji, accompanied by Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain and Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man, overdubbed themselves into a teeming multitude. However, there is nothing soulless or "canned" about the results; indeed, composer and singer emerge refreshed and more vivid than ever before, shaking their stuff amid swirling Technicolor veils of tongue-in-cheek mystery and sensuality. --Christina Roden
Album Description
Sumptuous and surreal, the Kronos Quartet and Asha Bhosle's You've Stolen My Heart is not unlike the colorful, melodramatic Indian film musicals to which it pays tribute. Eight of its twelve tracks feature superstar Bollywood film playback singer Asha Bhosle, widely considered the world's most recorded vocalist. The songs were chosen from the repertoire of her husband, the late composer R.D. Burman, who revolutionized the sound of the movies produced at Mumbai's (formerly Bombay) fabled studios, a.k.a. Bollywood.
Customer Reviews:
Warning: this CD is addictive.......2007-01-12
Now in her early 60s, Asha Bhosle's voice has matured since the heyday of her Bollywood career in the 60s-70s and in these reworkings of some of her greatest hits (written by her late husband R.K.Burman) it's positively honey-like. The collaboration with Kronos Quartet is inspired: substitute electronically enhanced violins for Duane Eddy guitars and you have an inkling of the ideas flying around the disc. The liner notes are informative and there's plenty of information for the Bollywood novice. However, whether you understand Hindi or not, this is a collection of songs - humorous, romantic, tacky, and at times so hilariously naff in the way of Indian homages to western pop it's actually cool! I would be amazed if you don't want to keep going back to it, once heard.
Clever, but...........2006-04-07
Chronos has always emphasized being clever over being musical- although they are splendid musicians- and this album is perhaps the ultimate exegesis of that. The actual music is perhaps exotic, to western ears, but it is also uninteresting. Indian film music combines the sound of the East with the banality of pop, and the result isn't anything that bears more than one listening; personally, I was continually reminded of the incidental Indian-themed music that kept popping up in the Beatles' movie "Help", although that soundtrack was a bit more clever. Another volume for the library of the die-hard Chronos fan, perhaps, but not necessarily anyone alse.
Bhosle, Pavrotti, Sinatra.......2006-02-12
Some vocalists are one-of-a-kind, brilliant and beautiful, setting the standard for their particular music. Asha Bhosle is one of them. I heard her with the Kronos in performance in San Francisco, and they took my breath away. This album isn't quite the same as being there but it's very, very close. Asha, Kronos - please do it again!
Cheap music.......2006-01-02
I dont know how the kronos quartet to come down so low. The music is cheap. I couldn't hear any of the tracks completely. They were so insipid.Complete waste of money. I have heard much better from Asha.
I Think They Should Have Selected a More Contemporary Singer.......2005-11-05
I love Asha Bhosle and one only has to listen to her Live at the Albert Hall album. Problem is, she has aged, and her voice shows it. Regrettably, her vocals on this album constantly remind me of this and I can't listen to the album with pleasure. I would say the same of such wonderful singers as June Carter and Amalia Mendoza. This was a wonderful opportunity to introduce much of the world to the zaniness of Bollywood movie music, with its fabulous arrangements and wacky use of all imaginable instruments from all over the world. Instead it makes me sad to hear Asha not at her peak.

"top film scores of the 1960's ~ Percy Faith".......2004-02-18
If you are a collector of Percy Faith, you must run out to your local music store and pick this one up ~ "Plays The Academy Award Winner Born Free and Other Great Movie Themes" (originally released on Columbia Records CS 9450 in 1967) and "Windmills of Your Mind" (originally released on Columbia Records CS 9835 in 1969) ~ following the formula of previous Columbia Records releases featuring Faith's classic style of sweeping strings and haunting arrangements, they've come up with two more winners.
Master of arranging, Faith's formula is so natural in keeping the arrangements fresh and new with his distinctive style ~ his tasteful treatment always highlights the quality of the composition ~ ultimately making them a hit all over again. Remember the days when you could turn on the radio and hear Percy Faith with many familiar pop standards ~ when you put this compact disc on your player, get ready for the "Percy Faith Touch" sprinkled with pure magic over the orchestration and leaves you simply in that unforgettable mood.
Top performances inclusive for the twenty two tracks of film score themes ~ "A MAN AND A WOMAN" (Barouh/Lai), "A TIME FOR LOVE" (Webster/Mandel), "ALFIE"(David/Bacharach), "AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME" (Lionel Bart), "BORN FREE"(John Barry), "CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG" (Richard M. Sherman/Robert B. Sherman), "ELVIRA'S THEME" (Percy Faith), "FOR LOVE OF IVY" (Russell/Quincy Jones), "THEME FROM "THE FOX" (Lalo Schlfrin), "FUNNY GIRL" (Merrill/Styne), "GEORGY GIRL"(Dale/Springfield), "THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER" (Peggy Lee/David Grusin), "HOW ARE THINGS IN GLOCCA MORRA?"(Harburg/Lane), "THE LION IN THE WINTER"(John Barry), "SONG FROM "THE OSCAR" (Evans/Livingston/Percy Faith), "THEME FROM "THE SAND PEPPLES" (Bricusse/Goldsmith), "SOMEWHERE MY LOVE(Lara's Theme from "Dr. Zhivago")"(Webster/Jarre), "STAR" (Cahn/Van Heusen), "THIS IS MY SONG" (Charles Chaplin), "THIS HOTEL" (Keating/Quine), "THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND" and "THE WISHING DOLL" (David/Bernstein) ~ notice two of the selections were composed by the man himself Percy Faith! Impressive line up of top movie songs that will surely satisfy the appetite of all "film-score-buffs" and Percy Faith fans...gotta love it!

Customer Reviews:
one of the only good things happening in hardcore .......2006-12-27
the things we carry is amazing. i think that have heart are one of the very few bands keeping it real in hardcore these days. it's deffinetly the best straight edge band to come out with anything in a long time. if you're into carry on, verse, donny brook, casey jones, or my turn to win. you'll most likely be into these guys.
good stuff.......2006-12-22
HAVE HEART are one exceptional band....another 5star relese from one of the best bands about today!!
"something more".......2006-10-14
Have Heart is simply amazing, and with an amazing band comes an amazing album. The Things We Carry is amazing. The lyrics are positive and uplifting, and make the music something that goes far beyond "average" music. The vibe the music gives you from Have Heart makes you feel uplifted and just straight up great. You can tell that Have Heart have a hudge passion for what they do and what they stand for, which you have to look hard to find these days in hardcore.
The music is brilliantly recorded, it's not sketchy and poor. The sound quality on this album is great, every insturment has a great touch to it and come together perfect. For anyone that is into hardcore or just uplifiting music, this album is definitly for you. If you want to feel great about life, you should get this album. If you're a fan of Modern Life is War, Champion, and Signs of Hope I would definitly recomend this album. It will blow you away. Have Heart is one of the most important bands in hardcore today, and everyone (a hardcore fan or not) should experience their music.
Great Straight Edge Band, Good Album!.......2006-08-22
these guys are real good, some of my friends bands went on tour with them this summer, and all I can say is that 'things we carry' and their album 'what counts' are rock solid, great music all around, all of the tracks are great, some just stand out more than others, like 'The Machinist, Something more Than Ink, Old Man II', all carry that Hardcore Charm.
Good Music Fellas, keep up the good work!
