Randy Weston is best known for being one of the few American jazz musicians to actually spend a lot of time in Africa, making the connections between the motherland and the improvised, swinging blues of America's cities. Less well known are Weston's links to European music. In the 1950s, the pianist retreated from New York to the Berkshire Hills in Massachusetts, where he attended many of the summer symphonic concerts at Tanglewood. These helped inspire him to compose a series of elegant jazz waltzes for children for his classic 1958 album, Little Niles. In 1981, Weston performed four of his compositions, including the standards "Hi-Fly" and "Portrait of Billie Holiday," with John Williams and the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra. So when he recorded his 1997 album, Earth Birth, with his trio and the 24 string players of the Orchestre du Festival de Jazz de Montreal, Weston revived four of his children's waltzes as well as "Hi-Fly" and "Portrait of Billie Holiday." Weston is a marvelously succinct pianist, saying as much with his pauses and elisions as with his quick-fingered phrasing, and he achieves an obvious rapport with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Billy Higgins. Nonetheless, the true star of the live recording is Melba Liston, who has done many big-band arrangements for Weston, Count Basie, and Dizzy Gillespie. Here she turns her attention to a string orchestra and delivers always-sympathetic, never-intrusive charts that greatly enhance the inherent romanticism of Weston's writing. --Geoffrey Himes

"performances light up the heavens ~ Crouch End Festival Chorus".......2005-06-25
This reissue originally released in 1997 was on the top American Billboard Charts, ranked number #13...dramantic in every respect "CINEMA CHORAL CLASSICS", featuring the CROUCH END FESTIVAL CHORUS and their leader David Temple (Choir Master), world renown with a strong reputation for hitting the mark everytime...for additional listening pleasure THE CITY OF PRAGUE PHILHARMONIC, conducted by Paul Bateman, Kenneth Alwyn and as always Nic Raine these gentleman are the icing on the cake...for additional listening pleasure we have the classical favorite "CARMINA BURANA"(1981-Carl Orff), the dark tale of Camelot...now that's just for openers.
Silva Screen Records takes us on a journey of adventure "CONAN:THE BARBARIAN"(1981-Basil Poledouris), with Arnold Schwarzenegger and resounding singers with brilliant orchestration...then we have two selections from "THE MISSION"(1986-Enno Morricone), beautiful choir blends emotion, enhanced by haunting themes and counter melodies..."THE LION IN WINTER"(1988-John Barry), a favorite among Barry fans, this arrangement and rendition has it all...next we travel with helmet in hand(with horns included) with "THE VIKINGS"(1959-Mario Nascimbene), if it's action you crave, then this Kirk Douglas epic is a real winner, but Nascimbene's score adds color and breaths life into this tale of the Viking God "Odin"...another remake leaps to the screen with "HENRY V"(1989-Patrick Doyle), one can only marvel at Kenneth Branagh's Shakespeare film, but the music from a solo to full choir gives you goose bumps...the CD is excellent, recorded in Dolby Surround sound is completely mesmerizing and outstanding...orchestration, every intstument, every voice, crystal clear...for all the "film-score-buffs", do not pass this one up...needs to be in your every growing collection (nuff said)...gotta love it!
Hats off to Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman and Nic Raine conducting the world renown CITY OF PRAGUE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA...plus James Fitzpatrick(album producer)...Reynold da silva(executive producer)...and a special thanks to David Temple(Choir Master) and our favorite-dynamic choir that made all of this possible...THE CROUCH END FESTIVAL CHORUS!

Sprited and Spirtual.......2005-07-17
Why have we not heard more from this artist? Some tracks on this album encouage reflection/meditation; while others can be used while you do your Sat.morning exercises or housecleaning. The spirits are definetly speaking through her, especially the female deities. I would recommend this to anyone who understands the powerful influence that music with positive energy can exert; and the difference it can make in your day at any given time.
Divine, relaxing, energizing; all of the above.......2004-07-02
I first heard the track Praises in a pre-natal yoga teacher training class. She played it during meditation at the end of class. I was completely engrossed in the music. It almost brought me to tears; it was that beautiful.
So, I bought the CD and was really happy. I was worried I'd only love the one track I bought it for (that happens to me frequently). HOWEVER, the entire CD is great. Very different tempos and moods, but it's all very good. I will defintitely use it for pre-natal and regular yoga classes.
A pleasure to listen to..........2002-02-07
Rachel Bagby blends chant and African drumming into a truly spiritual experience. The tracks Full Woman and Yemaya will appeal to women who practice Goddess and/or African centered religions.

Product Description
The hypnotic rhythms of Aztec drums and hautning sounds of Mesoamerican wind instruments blend with the seven voice of SAVAE in this companior recording to their bestselling "Guadalupe: Virgen de Los Indios." The music, dating from the mid-16th century reflects the unprecedentd vangelization that occurred as result of the appearance of the Virgin Mary to the Nahua Inidan Juan Dieo in 1531.
Customer Reviews:
SAVAE IS A HIDDEN TREASURE.......2005-08-09
I did not know much about SAVAE or this recording until I attended the annual conference of the Hymn Society of the US and Canada, which met in San Antonio, TX this year. There, I had the wonderful experience of a workshop with several members of SAVAE, in which we sang and clapped the complex melodies and rhythms of the music, and were introduced to some of the indigenous language, as well as the various drums, stones and flutes they used for accompaniment. Later in the conference, we (some 300 of us) were treated to a sublime concert, which included some of the pieces on this recording. We also got to sight-read three pieces from their upcoming CD of Christmas music from the same era. I don't think they had ever performed before so larga and appreciative an audience. This group deserves to be discovered by lovers of Early Music everywhere!
Culturally pleasing..........2003-06-19
In the album, El Milagro de Guadalupe, SAVAE clearly demonstrate their ability to cross-cultures and to unite or fuse the commonalities without difficulty. The sacred music somehow seems so much more holy in this context. The vocalists are quite talented singers and linguists. Overall a very pleasant cd and would recommend it to others.
Let tell you something..........2002-06-14
This is not what I think that
the Spaniards would wanted done,
in actual practice. This is all
sacred music all performed on
native aztec instruments, not
a single significant part for
convetional European instrument.
In most poor congregation in colonial
Latin-America, there would at least
be an organ, or a gitar, in the poorest
congregations, if an organ was out
of the question, a pair of recorders
would do just fine for church services.
There are better versions out there of
colonial Latin-American music.
Unbelievable.......2001-11-09
I was given this CD as a gift and I must say that it is the most incredible thing I have ever heard. There is something about it's "earthyness" that attracts my friends and I to it. I hope that SAVAE is around for a long time and that they keep blessing the world with their music.
Modern Aztec Interpretations.......2000-11-02
The music on this CD is in a word, ethereal. Beautiful choral music fused with Aztec instruments for a listening experience to not be forgotten nor matched in sheer beauty. The Nahuatl language is a joy to the ears, it speaks in whispers of a time long forgotten. The playing of indigenous Aztec instruments transports the listeners to another time period, a time without cars and planes, and the hectic schedules associated with modern times. Put this CD on and relax, it is hauntingly beautiful. The songs are all superb, inspiring one to transend the mundane to elevate to a higher plane. I don't know about 6+5+4 beats but I do know that the complex rhythmns astound the soul. The inspiration for this CD is La Virgen de Guadalupe and her grace must have bestowed supernatural powers on this recording because it is excellent. If you know of any devotees of La Virgen de Guadalupe this is an excellent choice to give them. The music is so different from anything you may have heard before. A revival of Aztec music, by a superb group of choral singers and musicians that is breathtaking. Put this CD on to listen to your inner sanctum, you might like what you hear, it is music for your soul. A real jewel, file this under inspiration.

Album Description
The long-anticipated album contains 11 original and one traditional song. The original songs have myriad influences that encompass the worlds of art, the ancient Greeks and Celts, the country of her birth (Moldova), social activism, and a fierce love and commitment to the Earth. Scarborough Faire, a traditional song, is given here as introspection on lost and impossible love. Below is a list of songs.
Izolda sang lead and harmony vocals and highlighted her performances on guitar, violin, Native American flute and percussion. Other instrumentation on the CD includes: cello, mandolin, electric guitar, percussion, and recorder. It features: Diana McFadden, Jim Brewster, Diana Sunday, Luis Nasser, Janet Morton, Jeff Laramee, and Jeff Sieracki. This fantastic array of instruments was arranged to fuse in the style of music known as Folk Nouveau.
Folk Nouveau music combines the story-telling and instrumentation elements of folk music and the reverence for nature of the Art Nouveau movement with melodic influences that span the Earth. Izolda's songs feature this innovative approach to music and include: stunning vocals, guitar work that combines exciting rhythms and delicate finger-style expression, and original work on violin, which she began studying in Moldova when she was just five years old.
In addition to being a musician, Izolda is also an excellent photographer and the album also contains some of Izolda's photographs. Some of these are: the orchids that are the hallmark of all of her musical endeavors, gold leaves, and the back of the CD tray card which is an image of the Vernal Equinox sunset on Inch Strand on the Dingle Peninsula, Ireland.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful. Just wonderful........2007-07-10
WOW! This woman has a voice! (which rivals Loreena McKinnett.) To call this music New Age/World just shows we can't pigeonhole all music into tidy little categories. Izolda sings life, love and joy with every breath and brings you along for the journey. The lyrics and melodies intertwine and weave a tapestry that take you into a world where Nature is smiling upon you. "Sun Warmed" and title track, "Sound the Deep Waters" for instance, lead you into a magical land of wild abandon and Woodland Folk.
There are a couple of heart-wrenching songs ("Leap of Faith" and "Understanding") as well as a Country-Western send-up ("Two to Tango") to keep the roller-coaster ride more dynamic. Many other treats on this disk. Plus, the cover of "Scarborough Faire" makes the hairs on my neck stand up. Just beautiful!

Album Description
From one of the most well known stories in human history comes this offering from Babylon Mystery Orchestra. However, "On Earth As It Is In Heaven" is no ordinary tale. Culled from ancient and controversial texts, it is the story of the origin of music itself. Built on a backdrop of fallen angels and the well known flood story, this is a tale of the highest treachery and betrayal. The story of angels that knowingly violate the laws of God for one brief moment of world domination, bringing with them a forbidden knowledge and behavior. Since this is Babylon Mystery Orchestra, you know there has to be a twist to this story. The music brought into this world was, by no means, a benevolent form of entertainment. Music was used to actively teach and promote violence and debauchery. It's ultimately successful purpose: to decieve the whole of mankind and drive them away from God. By it's description, this music could easily be labeled as rock and roll. Once again Babylon Mystery Orchestra dare to ask a most dangerous question: If rock and roll was used to decieve and destroy the entire world thousands of years ago, what is its purpose today? Long Live Rock and Roll?....It already has!!
Customer Reviews:
