Gene Ammons was a beautiful ballad player. Whereas Volume 1 concentrated on 2 Moodsville LPs, this CD surveys Gene's ballad work on a number of Prestige outings from 1960-71. Best are "It's the talk of the town" and "Stranger in town," though it's hard to choose favorites when all sides are so consistently fine. Granted it lacks variety of approach, but it's the perfect album for kicking your shoes off and chilling out.

This is great music, by an great artist. The music is gentle on the ears and touches your emotions. This is music that you can play over and over and never tire of it. It would make a great gift for anyone who appreciates good music and the saxaphone instument.
