Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to the R&B Hits of the 60s and 70s.......2001-08-03

I know very little about the movie on which this soundtrack is based, but it makes me want to see the movie. The music provides a snapshot of the Motown, soul, R&B era in its prime. All the greats are here -- Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Issac Hayes, James Brown and Barry White -- plus some more obscure artists such as Arthur Conley, Fontella Bass and the Bar-Kays. Nothing most boomers probably haven't heard before on the radio, but together, the music comes alive and transports you back in time.

Although most of the songs are fairly mainstream, they are not quite as obvious as the selections on the Big Chill or the Commitments soundtracks. Overall, this complilation provides a great introduction to the soul and R&B hits of the 60s and 70s.

4 out of 5 stars sucker punched............2005-06-06

got this cd as a fluke. have never heard of this woman before and don't particularly care for reggae music. played it while copying to my computer and ended up listening to the whole thing... repeated a few of the tracks several times! there's something here, the rhythm? or rhymes that remind me of mark morrison (return of the mack). definitely worth a listen!

2 out of 5 stars 2 stars - for only 2 songs.......2003-04-05

2 stars for 2 songs: "Summer breezin" and "sugar sugar" are really convincing and quite up to the level of her first hit "shy guy". The rest of the album is ok, but not very spectacular and rather boring to my ears.
