Lovely guitar pieces by the Great Laurence Juber. I listen to this over and over. It's amazing that people can play like this. If you love fingerstyle and jazz, you'll love this. (I adore people who play like this: Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, and other fingerstylists.) I want more!!!

I saw Laurence Juber at the recent Fest For Beatles Fans in Secaucus, NJ, and was completely blown away by his playing ability. As he was mentioning the various CDs and DVDs and Grammy awards he has, I told my son "I'm buying all those CDs and DVDs tomorrow". Well I didn't buy them all but I made sure I got this one, and I am here to say that it is an excellent example of his great creativity and guitar-playing skill. I scored a double-header on this as I got a great instrumental guitar CD and a great Beatle CD. If you even just LIKE Beatle music, if you even just LIKE acoustic guitar, this CD will have you smiling and humming in no time. A great CD by a great guitarist. You just can't go wrong with this CD.

As many of us are, I am a long time and never ending admirer of the Beatles and all they encompassed. Over the years I've taken interest in various tributes, variations etc. of their music and usually am disappointed. Somehow I missed this one and stumbled onto it recently. Halfway through the second track I knew I found one of those great albums that will always stay above the surface. There's too much to go into here...all I can say is I can't imagine anyone past the entry level Beatles fan not enjoying this. Juber has pulled off a great and rare thing here, making tribute to the music we all know and love like a lifelong, irreplaceable best friend, while displaying his inventive arrangement skills and breathtaking talent as a guitarist. There's some twists and turns and depth to challenge us but he's not out to lose us and forget what brought us all here in the first place. Beyond that, or I guess in addition, it's simply an acoustic guitar daydream, perfectly produced. Impressive stuff to put it mildly. I just wish I'd found it a few years earlier...

    Half the tracks combine percussion with Juber's guitar. While not tough enough to compare with Leo Kottke, Juber plays harder than William Ackerman. The guitar is honest and spritely, even if many of the melodies are forgetable. I still prefer Alex De Grassi.

    forget all the NewAge snooz music and "soft" jazz...this is the bomb! Juber writes and plays some of the finest tunes with some of the tastiest arrangements these jaded ears have ever heard. Check out his other titles...Mosaic, and Winter Guitar as well...

    I have to say, I wasn't sure what I'd get by buying this CD, being that I've never been too interested in acoustic guitar...but I was pleasantly surprised! This CD's great for relaxing, driving, and even sleeping! A great buy. ;)

    Laurence Juber's CD "LJ" is a very pleasing album of acoustic music that has his excellent guitar backed by a first-rate ensemble. This is fine music that you will enjoy with your first cup of coffee in the morning, or late at night when you are alone with your wife, having finally gotten all of your children to bed. This is a definite buy.

        In answer to Elwood Conway, don't expect a Bar None release of these titles. I was told directly by Bar None that the "Genius Of/1968", "Latin-Esque" and "Early Mexican Recordings" CD's will not see the light of day becuase of high licensing costs.

        Was it taken from a marginal vinyl source? Absolutely. But, for now, this CD is the only game in town. Buy this disc and enjoy an authentic master closing out his career on RCA.

        SKIP this CD. It is a not very good vinyl source for both recordings. Wait until Bar-None or RCA release these properly. And while they are at it, why not release the Ames Brothers Hello Amigos which featured Esquivel and his orchestra in Juan's typically fun arrangements!!!!
