I wanted to purchase this cd when it first came out but I procastinated and I was sorry because it is an excellent cd. I especially love all of the jazz rendentions of Luther's compositions. I listen to this cd almost every day. I loved Luther singing the songs and now I love listening to the music.

This star-studded smooth-jazz tribute to Luther Vandross adds credence to the idea that the saxophone is the instrument that comes closest to mimicking the human voice. The passion that these reed players--including Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Mindi Abair, and Dave Koz--pour into their respective tracks makes it seems like they're speaking right from the heart. Guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. does a very funky turn on "Never Too Much," and two of the most underrated singers in contemporary urban music, Lalah Hathaway and Ledisi, also provide highlights. l am a great fan of Luther and this was a very well done rendition of his songs. The best thing that happened for me was discovering Lallah Hathaway, l daresay she may have outdone Luther in the 'My sensitivity' track but that's a big MAY. Together with Ledisi these were the perfect divas to bring out this compilation

Who could ever forget such classic songs such as "The Groove Line","Always and Forever",Eyeballin', and "Boogie Nights"? This band truly covered the R&B charts with these top hits, and made their mark in the annals of the music world. These songs have stood the test of time and are still very popular today as they were back then. One of the things the listener will find is the band was very well rounded and was very diverse in their musical talents. From start to finish,this album will definately get your hands clapping and your toes tapping.

Heatwave were the thang during the late '70s. Dance music was at it's height and "The Groove Line" flew up the charts. It became one of their biggest hits and one of the biggest records that year. You couldn't go to a club without hearing "The Groove Line" or "Boogie Nights". Of course they had more singles outside their dance cuts. "Always & Forever" one of their most enduring hits ever. The song became a major popular hit among R&B fans. It's a out the box classic slowjam and many people have later used the record for their weddings. "Mind Blowing Decisions" is one of their smoothest singles and "Ain't No Half Steppin" became a popular radio aired track during it's album release and it has also been used as a standard for Hip-Hop sampling. Get the album if your a fan of old school love songs with meaningful lyrics great singing or dance music but if you're just looking for some great music, this album is good for any music collection.

Sometimes a simple voice can carry the day. I listened to this album every day for months when it came out in 1987, and into Summer 1988. Randy Travis was the "IT" guy, guest starring on late night TV and breathing new life into country music. I was a huge fan, and am still a huge fan. His voice is unique and a gift. This album is superb,natural country music. Delightful!

... having worked for a prominent cosmetic surgeon, I tend to spot facial details that most people miss... for instance, Luther's ears here appear to be quite close to his head, while photos in more recent years make them appear to be more prominent... also, he had a more masculine look to his face here, but later in his career he appeared far more feminine-looking... these are just observations, not criticisms - none of this changes the fact that he was an awesome vocalist who, like Prince, wore many hats in the recording of his albums, serving as singer-songwriter-arranger-producer, although I would have loved to hear him pair up with Quincy Jones at least once just to see what they could have come up with together.

'Forever,For Always,For Love' is Luther's critical sophmore release from 1982.Luther Vandross is very much going out of his way to fasion a grand soul epic with this release where even the uptempo songs have a very cinematic feel to them.All eight of these longish songs are wonderful,beautiful and hoplessly romantic as always.My favorites are of course "Bad Boy/Having A Party",'You're The Sweetest One" and "She Gives Love Back",all of which are peppy dance tunes with great hooks and each one had an elegant house party atmosphere.The title cut is very beautiful and also extrodinarily melodramatic.And Luther REALLY lets his soul bare on "Since I Lost My Baby".As opposed to David Ruffin's more tortured tone on the original Luther gives the song a lot more meloncaughly and sadness.On the album cover Luther is leaning cowly up at you almost as if to say "come inside because I've got some great stories to tell".And this is an inviting album-Luther shares his musical and lyrical concepts of love and human relationships here and all the RSVP's are sent out.As always he makes the best use of Marcus Miller as writing partner and crucial bassist and keeps his links strong to classic R&B.This creamy smooth album stands somewhat in contrast to the slightly more groove oriented sounds of Never Too Much and Busy Body which this is sandwiched between but certainly being in the middle can be a wonderful advantage.

I just purchase this CD a couple years ago. In I want to get some of Luther earlier recordings. He has a voice the melts with not only his lyrics he is so in sync with the lyrics and his voice So Very, Very Richly compliments his songs, lyrics. What Amazing Talent. Every song from Bad Boy/Having a Party to Since I Lost My Baby are so Rich of his Velvet voice you actually touch his emotions and his delivery of each of his song. His Voice is what reachs so deep within your soul and spirit. I can't say enough about Luther Vandross. With his so very Recent Passing this commentary of this songs for me is so overdue from me. I really Admired his Talent and His Dreams. He voice will be so missed. The one thing I regret is that I never got to see Luther Vandros live I really regret that but his music lives on. The Legacy of Velvet Voice and Heart of a Champion. Ratings from 5 being the Highest to 1 being the Lowest

Luther's sophomore release is every bit as exceptional as his debut outing, which was a tour de force itself. Luther was on his way to proving that he was finest male vocalist of the eighties, and this highly consistent, tightly-woven recording showcases his other considerable talents as well. The bravura medley of "Bad Boy" and "Having A Party" was the first track to prove that Luther has an undeniable gift for merging two seemingly different compositions, and actually making it work seamlessly. Luther's amazing versatile is really evident on this album, where he proves he can master nearly any emotion from the optimism of the delightful "She Loves Me Back," to the desperation of the intense "Promise Me."

No matter the tempo, Luther always instinctively knows how to interpret a song. The loosely-rendered title track, in particular, could have been a mess in the hands of a less capable performer, but the song is nothing less than stunning when graced with Luther's golden timbre and effortless phrasing.. And as always, his cover of choice (this time Smokey Robinson's "Since I Lost My Baby") gives both his vocal and his emotional range a thrilling showcase. This album is simply what it is, a well done cover album. Silk has done all of these tracks justice. No one is suggesting that they are as good as the originals nor will they ever replace the original versions but this is a good sidestep to hear classic tunes with a different spin. Too many reviewers here are acting as if by covering Always and Forever it will make Heatwave's version go away. That will NEVER happen so enjoy this for what it is and stop acting as if a crime has been committed. Boys II Men did a cover album (Throwback)and the earth is still spinning. Prince even covered the Stlystics. I'm just glad Silk is still out there and look forward to their next work, cover album or not.

I must admmit, I was really excited to hear good old Silk from the 90's come back (kind of like the new Boys 2 Men), however, once I heard the first track.....I became very disappointed.

The good thing about classic R&B is that they are timeless and really don't need other renditions, especially bad ones. So, Silk should have known better, that's just like Willy Hong making recreating "Freak Me"---BAD, BAD, BAD.

Like my husband said...someone should start a class action suit against Silk for this album.

I just purchased Always and Forever by Silk. These brothers are acting up! The harmony is second to none. I have been down with Silk since day one. This album is the best. The remake of Adore and Secret Garden is the jam. Silk takes you back to a time when you used to be able to turn on the radio and people could REALLY sing. Get this in your collection. My bad evaluation isn't disrespectful for Silk's vocal skills, already shown in their previous efforts. It's a personal opinion related to the bad idea to release a whole "cover" album. I must confess that i'm a bit tired to hear covers and samples of old songs, and i really crave to hear "original" sounds. The concept behind a disk like this is another evidence of how much we're currently far from the excellent level of '90 R&B (how a previous reviewer rightly said).
Just to give an example, i'm wondering about the producer's choice to make a cover of a song like "Secret Garden"! It's totally unfair, in my opinion, to ask to someone else to perform a tune previously blessed by the wonderful (and unique) voices of artists like Barry White and James Ingram...this comparison can be too tough for everyone, and Silk's members deserve the opportunity to evolve their own musical style in a more personal direction.

Great performance from these guys. Grab the Love Session CD to hear the best cover they've ever done, "Ebony Eyes".

Since Vandross is an excellent, peerless contemporary R&B vocalist, this is an excellent opportunity for him to shine, and he does, particularly on "A House Is Not a Home," "Anyone Who Had a Heart," "Going Out of My Head" and "I (Who Have Nothing)."Vandross shines throughout the entire album, making it another treasure in his catalog. It would have been nice to hear Luther cover some of the modern songs that were big at that like Dru Hill's Beauty or Jagged Edge's Gotta Be, it's still a great collection.

Listening to this CD, one would think Luther is still here with us. He didn't miss a beat and gave us a bench mark that few vocalist will raise above.

This is probably one of my most treasured CD's of all time. Words just cannot describe the incredible talent this man had, and news of his untimely death was devastating. However, what he has left behind is truly amazing. Just to name a few of the songs from this CD; A House is not a Home, incredible!!!, Circles, amazing!!, I who have nothing (the duet), mesmirizing!!

And one of my favorites is Always and Forever! I hated this song years ago, when it was done by Heatwave (nothing against the group of course), but when Luther sang his rendition of it, it blew me away, and I have loved it ever since.

Luther's talent really amazed me! His voice, and the way he performed a song, took your thoughts and feelings to a whole other dimension. Places you never thought your mind could go, it went. Whatever your mood, Luther had a song for it.

You will be missed Luther. Your work is apparently done here on this earth, and may you now rest in peace, and thank you, for sharing your incredible talent with us all!!!!!

Hello my name is carenda cummmings I am 20 years old and I have been a large luther fan since I was about 10 years old. So that means I been loving luther for almost all my life. The CD
Always & Forever is a classic CD and I know its loved by many al the songs on the Cd is great. My favorite is Always & Forever. Luther is the Best Artist/songwriter that ever walked the surface of this earth. I won't to tell Luther and all of his family that he is in my pryers and will stay there until he fully recovers. I rate Luther Vandross CDs from a scale from 1-10 I give him 20. Luther is a great artist may GOD be with him.

This music is not an original Giovanni cd but a re-mix of another cd that was recorded without Giovanni's permission and should not be considered as original Giovanni music. For Giovanni music, it is available at [...] If it does not have "NewCastle Records" on the back, it is not Giovanni music!

There are no words adequate to describe the feelings I have when I close my eyes and listen to the music of Giovanni. I am trying desparetly to find his other album, "Always". that album is also too beautiful to describe. Why is it so hard to get? Music that beautiful should be around all the time. Help in locating it would be greatly appreciated. (Not Always & Forever;I have that)

I found this awesome astists beautiful music when I was vacationing. I listened to it all the way home! I then ordered four other titles he has. I think there are over thirty but I have the four that are available here in the USA. If you are romantic and love piano, this music is for you! It is passionate and powerful. It vibrates through your body. You can feel his spirit soaring in ecstasy as he plays. He loves what he does and so do I* It is great love making music! I adore this artist!!!

An amazing debut album from my favourite group. Eternal have really done well throughout the last 5 years, with 14 UK Top 15 hits, 12 of them making the top 10. This first album from them really started their career well. With 6 Top 15 singles included in the package, this album is really one record you will treasure forever. From the strong opener "Stay" to the short reprise "Amazing Grace" there really is something for everyone on this album of 14 tracks. My personal favourite, like so many other Eternal fans, is the groovy "Just A Step From Heaven", which was the girls' 3rd single in the UK, peaking at no.4 in April 1994; with it's wicked dance routine and catchy chorus, this song shows off the girls' talents to a very high degree, with Easther's vocals setting it off excellently. A truly perfect album from the UK's leading All-girl R & B group. And with the loss of another member, Kelle Bryan, Eternal have kept going, and Easther & Vernie are releasing their new single "Whatcha Gonna Do" in late 1999, which is taken from the long-awaited new album to follow up the massive success of "Before The Rain" and "Greatest Hits".
