Though Senderos includes just two players, the nicely layered complexities of their individual approaches to their instruments makes for an incredibly diverse set. Now seventy, Dino Saluzzi is a powerful composer for his instrument the bandoneon (a part of the accordion family). From hymn-like reveries to cabaret songs to folk-based melodies, Dino's breadth is impressive. When he lets loose with a few lines of wordless singing in "Allá!... en los montes dormidos" it is as if, so swept up in the emotion, he had nowhere else to go but to let it out. Drummer Christensen can be a very quiet presence (he does in fact sit out a few numbers), but that has been a hallmark of his playing as the resiliency of his pulses never waver, even at a whispered volume. --David Greenberger

disappointing.......2007-03-26

I was expecting an album in the tango nuevo-modern tango category but this is a jazz album. As a jazz album it is very static. The musicians seem to be in doubt whether to play a certain chord or not. I don't recommend it.

Dino Saluzzi, bandoneon.......2005-09-09

Dino Saluzzi is bandoneon player, as was his more famous countryman Astor Piazzolla, but Saluzzi seems more classically oriented and his music is more introspective and harmonically adventurous. Particularly toward the end of his career, Piazzolla tended to become his own cliche, recycling a lot of the same harmonies and chord progressions. Saluzzi never does this--I own four of his recordings and every one is different. His music is probably something of an acquired taste--it doesn't have Piazzolla's popular appeal and there's less of a direct connection to tango--but it's fascinating stuff and well worth more than one hearing.

Dark & involving music.......2005-06-02

This was originally planned as a solo session, but ECM head honcho Manfred Eicher made a call to drummer Jon Christensen, inviting him to sit in on a few tracks, & in the end the musicians & producer liked the results so much that most of the album is duets. Bandoneon/drums duets are unusual to say the least, & the resutls are fascinating, not least because you can hear the musicians thinking about how to respond to the situation. Saluzzi mostly favours dark, brooding, quiet textures, sometimes like a nostalgic memories of tangos & folksongs, sometimes quite dissonant, like some atonal church organ piece. Christensen plays sparsely but very dramatically--silences & rustles broken by big abrupt blobs of sound. He almost never keeps time--more often it's the bandoneon that states the pulse (when there is a pulse).

In a rare packaging mistake, ECM says there's 60 minutes of music on this disc. There are actually 79 minutes--way too much music to absorb in one go, I've found, but this is an album well worth lingering over. Definitely not for all tastes, but if the idea of bandoneon/drums duos sounds intriguing, then by all means check it out.

Amazing band........2005-07-18

I dicovered this band back in 1990, and all I can say is I haven't find any other band with the same feeling and dedication as this band. This band is not your average Spanish Rock band because other bands are just filled with mediocrity and no sense of melody.
As a professional guitar player I can tell you that the guitar work in the band is one of the finest and unique sounds that you can get in the whole Rock En Español scene. The lyrics and vocals are profound and obscure; Enrique Bunbury demonstrates his vocal abilities, showing that he's not an ordinary/average singer. You can truly feel the anger and power of the vocalist, and the lyrics clearly demosntrate Bunbury's fury and sense of imagination. Both the music and the lyrics create a very unique atmosphere which leaves me wanting to hear this album over and over again.

If you're looking for pure art expression manifested through music, I really recommend this album along with their other masterpiece "El Espíritu Del Vino".

Best cd of Heroes !.......2005-05-24

This album is a typicially rock album starting with "Entre dos tierras" which was the first big hit of the band, "Maldito Duende" is a nice ballad, but "La Carta"is one of my favourite here on this cd.

The real winner here though is "Hechizo" which is my fave HDS song EVER !(along with iberia Sumergida and La Herida). Great rock n roll the way it should be, and the singer has the most uniqe voice Ive ever heard !! its just something about his voice that is so special, I think he sings uptempo songs much better then ballads but thats just me. Oracion is a terrific song which is probably on the more spiritual side while "Decadencia" is more hard rocking !

Get this if you are serious about Rock en espanol! its one of the first true rock n espanol classics

ONE OF THE GREATES AND FINEST SPANISH ROCK ALBUMS.......2005-04-05

I'm a big Heroes Del Silencio FAN, and of course I have all their records, My favourites album is "El Espiritu Del Vino" and this one "Senderos De Traicion".

Senderos de Traicion is very different with the other ones, really each album has it's own sound and spirit! The guitar arrangements are so unique, I have't heard anything like that before by anybody except by the hand of Juan Valdivia, it's just one of the best guitar players in the spanish rock scene, maybe the best!! They have all the spirit and passion in their music as well as the Flamenco music. But don't get wrong! they don't play flamenco. It's just pure rock n roll but at it's finest.

I have had the chance to rediscover Heroes del Silencio this Christmas. I grew up in a small town very close to the province of Zaragoza and I had heard a lot about Heroes well before "Senderos de Traicion" was released. At that time I didn't like the group much.
But then "Senderos de Traicion" came to my hands and I became a hard core fan of the group overnight.
I didn't like much the songs from CD's "El Espíritu del Vino" and "Avalancha" at the time of their release so I thought I didn't like the group anymore. But! This Christmas I have had the chance to listen to their songs again, including those I didn't quite like from "El Espíritu del Vino" and "Avalancha". What can I say? This group is just great! And although at this time I appreciate very much also the songs from the latter albums, "Senderos de Traición" is still my favourite. Heroes del Silencio is the exception to the mediocity that has been ruling the Spanish pop music arena for the past three or four decades. Their songs are timeless and their contribution to rock music are of immense value.

BREATHTAKING & GORGEOUS.......2006-07-18

One of my favorite CDs-a truly amazing talent & voice-as good as it gets-this CD is soooooo GOOD-a MASTERPIECE-thank GOD for Olga Tanon-I love you!!

A new path for Olga.......2002-05-15

Nuevos Senderos was Olga's first non-Merengue CD. The songs are a lot slower than what she usually does and they seem to fall under the Grupero category on this CD. "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes" is probably the most popular and upbeat track. Most of the songs were written by Marco Antonio Solis. Olga's voice is very clear and gorgeous. Even though it's not her best release, it's still quite good.

Not for Newer Fans.......1999-12-14

Olga Tanon's "Nuevos Senderos" is a great CD for old Olga fans, seeing the way they react to it. But I am a newer Olga fan, and "Nuevos" really didn't get me that excited. I have four Olga CDs, most of them upbeat, and this CD kinda turned me off. The only songs that I almost always repeat are "Cuestion de Suerte", "En Ti", and sometimes "Basta Ya!". I like the live version of "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes" much better than this version, it seems slower. All in all, a good CD, but better get more experienced with Olga Tanon before delving into her more experimental works. :-)

From Meringue to Magnificent !!!.......1999-04-24

Nuevos Senderos was Olga Tanon's breather from her regular "Queen of the Meringue" status. The songs were artistically written and well produced by Marco Antonio Solis from Los Bukis fame. For fans who are expecting a fast-paced meringue workout, this album is not it. Instead, you get well-crafted and very beautiful, romantic boleros, ballads, and maybe a few cumbias. From start to finish of entire c.d., vocals and instrumentation are magnificent ! You can feel the passion and emotion that Olga put into this project along with Solis; She can really belt out with her voice on these ballads ! This c.d. is highly recommended. Do not dismiss it simply because you might think it's too slow- paced--there are plenty of surprises that may change the way you think about Latin boleros, cumbias and ballads with this one!!!...

Un verdadero clasico del Rock.......2007-01-31

Heroes son un grupo tan original y unico que hacen de su musica sea eterna. Este y todos sus album son recomendables no tengo un favorito. Heroes no supo hacer un mal disco y ahora en esta versiones se escuchan excelente los cd y los bonus son tremendos. Si quieren nadar mar adentro vivir una revolucion compren estos cd
