I regret that i got carried away by the recommendations given on my previous purchases as well as the other reviews on this compilation
"Peel slowly and see" is definitely one of the worst in my collection.

It sounded more like a jam session by a not so talented garage band! Do i say more.
Can i have my money back or atleast exchange the same for some better music?

the greatest box set ever.........2007-01-07

i've owned this set about three times for one reason or another. i always come back to it, though because it holds up well. it actually holds up better than most of the music that came out of that hippie era because the experimentation was way ahead of its time. i also like the way the avant garde blends with pop melody, to make it more accessible in some way..this music really is not as hard, as say Ornette Coleman is to fully digest. you just have to have an ear for it..beleive me, the rewards come in great dividends for sticking with this music.

The Whole Is Not the Sum of its Parts.......2006-06-21

I hate to give anything by the Velvets less than 5 stars but "Peel Slowly and See" has enough unessential material that it weighs down the classic albums. The first disc of demos can really be only listened to once. Repeated takes of semi-acoustic versions of songs on the first album that don't go anywhere plus a couple of unreleased songs like "Prominent Men", from when Lou Reed was still worshipping at the temple of Bob Dylan. Of course, hearing "The Velvet Underground and Nico" and "White Light, White Heat" are a necessary experience in anyone's life. The first album (found on the 2nd disc with out-takes) was totally unique when it came out. Yeah there were maverick groups out there that experimented with noise (Red Crayola, AMM) but the Velvets were the ones that got it right, making any efforts of the flower children wilt in comparison. "White Light/White Heat" (on disc 3) is a step further. It did not sell well at the time which was a reflection not on the album but how ahead of its time it was. It would take a decade for rock to catch up with it though some groups such as the Stooges were quick learners. "Sister Ray", in itself inspired bands and is a piece of punk perfection, an extended song that seems maniacally focused the whole time so that you can't take your attention from it. The clip of "Melody Laughter" on the 2nd album is a section of a noise jam, from a very listenable concert from 1966 that should be released officially. "Guess I'm Falling in Love" and "Booker T" on disc 3 are two songs from a 1967 concert that no one has heard and is rumored to be in the possession of John Cale and deserves an official release on its own. The out-takes on disc 2 and 3 are of minimal interest. The Nico songs are good but she would get even better when she left the band and released the scarily teutonic "The Marble Index" (produced by John Cale). Disc 4 contains "The Velvet Underground" a lesser (but still important album) after John Cale had exited the band. Recent groups from Galaxie 500 to Yo La Tengo could be said to be influenced by this album though it is nowhere near the masterpiece of the first two albums. "Loaded" (on the 5th disc) is of minimal interest. I'd recommend that you purchase the first two albums, perhaps the third and skip the box set.

Despite a few flaws, an essential purchase.......2006-01-24

The Velvet Underground is probably one of the most written about bands of all-time. Their influence and genius is well-known so I won't bore the reader with tired truisms about the band. Instead, this review will be very meat-and-potatoes, focusing on the content, and pros and cons of this box set.

"Peel Slowly and See" (1995) is a five disc box set and includes all four Lou Reed era albums that were commercially released while the Velvet Underground was an active band; "The Velvet Underground and Nico," (1967) "White Light/White Heat" (1968) "The Velvet Underground" (1969) and "Loaded" (1970). While the first disc is a collection of demos, disc 2-5 each contain a complete album, with a lot of bonus material. The bonus material includes live cuts, demos, and finished studio tracks that were recorded between the third album "The Velvet Underground" and the fourth and final Lou Reed era album "Loaded," (this material can be found on the "lost" Velvet Underground album "VU" (1985) and its follow-up "Another VU" (1986).

If you are a fan of the Velvet Underground "Peel Slowly and See" is highly recommended. While it would be cheaper to just pick up the four studio albums individually, it is better to spend a little more money on this set and get a ton on bonus songs ($60.00 as opposed to $40.00). The demos are great, as you get an inside look at history being created and it's cool to hear songs as works-in-progress. The live songs sound great and should no doubt please fans of the band. The bonus material, selections from "VU" and "Another VU" stand as some of the band's best recordings and are generally just as good as what's on the first four albums.

While the value of the material on this set is indisputable, the way the box-set is compiled is flawed. Except for "Loaded," each disc does not start with the studio album, which is a bit annoying, but not really a big deal as the tracks of the albums are in order and you can just start the CD where the album begins. The biggest flaw, however, is that this set only contains selections from "VU" and "Another VU." It would have been far more desirable if both albums were included in their entity, so the consumer would have the complete works of the Reed-era available in one place.

It also would have been great if the Velvet Underground's fifth, post-Reed-Morrison-Tucker; now out-of-print album "Squeeze" (1973) had been included. While "Squeeze" has a reputation of being utterly awful, it is still part of the band's history and should be available. I have recently acquired a bootleg CD of "Squeeze" and it's nowhere near as bad as people say it is. While it is nowhere near as brilliant as the band's other work, (it's basically a Doug Yule solo album, Deep Purple's Ian Paice plays drums) it's still pretty cool in its own right and should be available for fans to hear.

One criticism of this set that I don't agree with is that it contains a "closet mix" of the band's third self-titled album, which sounds a bit stuffy compared to the original release. This isn't really a problem though, as the non-"closet mix" is still in-print and readily available. Both versions are worth owning.

Despite a few flaws in the way this set in set-up, it's still most definitely worth owning, as it contains all four albums and a vast array of bonus material.

Here is what I recommend you do:

Buy "Peel Slowly and See," along with "VU," "Another VU" and the non-"closet-mix" of "The Velvet Underground" in order to get a complete collection.

These "remasters" are horrible - .......2007-01-06

Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death are two amazing death metal albums. Roadrunner has issues a lot of these 2 for 1 packages (suffocation, gorguts, etc...), and to be honest, its a rip off. The inserts have nothing new, and its just 1 piece of papaer with no additonal information; not even a band history has been added. It really just a waste. If you already own these two albums, there is no need to pick this up. Also, I notice no difference in the sound compared to the original CD's.

GREAT OLD-SCHOOL DEATH METAL!!!.......2006-05-06

Obituary was one of the main DM bands to come out of Florida in the late 80's- early 90's. They disbanded for a while, but recently got back together & released another album, "Frozen in Time," which I hear is actually pretty good. But I guarentee it DOES NOT beat either of these 2 masterpeices... I don't know which one of these I like better. I'd have to say at 1st I liked "Cause of Death" better, but I've been listening to "Slowly We Rot" again lately, & it's just as good. I recommend this "2 From the vault" double pack because you get BOTH of their original classics remastered and for the same price as you'd pay for just one of them by themselves. Great DM here, get on the ball & get it man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if a rotting corpes popped out of the ground & started talking to you, he would sound like john tardy.i heard that on the 1st album ("slowly..") they did'nt even bother to write lyrics for a lot of the songs.he would just scream,growl,grunt,& howl whatever sounded right.this may turn some people off but its so cool to me.this may have came out 4 or 5 years after "scream bloody gore" & "seven churches" but i still consider obituary 5 of the founding fathers of death metal.nothing realy stands out on either album from any other part of either album(did that make sence?).no one band member realy stands out either .they all compliment one another equally here for two well rounded & very entertaining cds.i would have to say, though that if somone asked me what death metal was i'd have to pop in "cause of death" track 7 ,the title track.

Terrific set worth buying.......2004-07-10

Obituary was one of the myriad of death metal bands to rise out of Florida in the late '80s, along with bands like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and Death. And they are probably the best of those bands. Sure, they're pretty much a more extreme version of Death's first album, but the music IS very good, and there are some doom-metal bits scattered over both these albums. While the albums here aren't as good as their next two albums (with Cause of Death being their career lowpoint), there are enough good songs on here to warrent picking this up. Everything sounds great with the remastering, and there's a few bonus tracks for each album.

On the downside, no lyrics are included (though the vocal are partially understandable). Plus, the cover artwork is horrible. What's with the cheesy, kinda CG looking hands and crypt, with the bands name looking very out of place? Would it have been so hard to simply have the band logo, and pictures of the albums included?

Despite the packaging, this set is still worth picking up for it's low price and great music.

all kick much a$$. The first four CDs listed above you can get cheap and remastered with these 2-fer sets, which are a good deal. Their style is blood-gurgling/bass-drum battering death metal that never relents. These two albums just sound mean.

If you already have these CDs, then you may still want to upgrade for a few reasons. This set features 5 demos at the ends of the respective CDs and the other 2-fer has 5 live tracks from way back. The original album covers are included full-size inside the packaging, so don't worry about having to squint to see the Cause of Death painting. The remaster job makes it all a little crisper, but let's be honest, these albums are more-or-less intentionally lo-fi. There aren't any lyrics included, oddly enough. Obituary often wrote some of the best lyrics around, particularly as their career wore on and they became more socially-conscious.

If you are new to Obituary's style of DM, then I have to say they offer a new twist on the typical proceedings. The musicianship is commendable, but John Tardy's vocals are really what sets them apart from other great bands like Suffocation or Pestilence.

Should you buy this album. Yes. Cast a vote for Obituary and send Britney Spears to hell!

A wonderful encore to the movie soundtrack!.......2003-07-20

After I listened to the CD 'Music from the motion picture The Pianist', which had one piece played by Wladyslaw Szpilman, it was only natural to want to hear more recordings of this great musician and person. This CD has 13 music pieces by Szpilman, and they are wonderful. The movie used mainly Chopin's music, but Szpilman's repertoire- which he preserved through mental piano practice during the war- is quite varied. The CD has him playing Rachmaninov, Schumann, Debussy, Albeniz, Gruenfeld, J.S.Bach, Kreisler, and of course Chopin (Nocturne in C sharp minor appears twice- recorded in 1980 and 1948 respectively).

The highlight of the CD is Szpilman's own composition- Concertino for Piano and Orchestra which he mentions in his book, and which he wrote in 1940- just when the difficult times began.

Szpilman's piano style is different from that of Janusz Olejniczac, whose performances are on the other CD. They both are wonderful in their own way, but it was exciting for me to listen to the real life Pianist. I will look for more works by Wladyslaw Szpilman, including his songs.

This classical recording inspired Roman Polanski to direct this great movie about a pianist, Szpilman who survived the war.
Everyone should have this cd in their collection.

Impressive CD by the Pianist.......2003-01-06

Could not wait to get my hands on this one. Sorry, but did have to buy it elsewhere. Could not wait. After seing the movie I wanted to know more about this man and what he played. It includes his version of Chopin's Nocturne as performed on the end credits. Great !
Only sorry that I did not get such a good deal as from Amazon. This is a keeper !

The original recordings by THE PIANIST W. Szpilman.......2003-01-06

I saw Polanski's "THE PIANIST" last weekend and was very impressed and wanted to learn more about the real hero of the movie. I searched online for his recordings. After two days I received two CD's from Amazon.com related to Wladyslaw Szpilman: One with his beautiful songs by Wendy Lands and another one with his Original recordings. He plays wonderful Chopin ( i.e. the Nocturne from the final scene of the movie ), Rachmaninoff, Bach and his own music - Concertino for Piano and Orchestra composed in the Warsaw Ghetto in a time of deepest repressions by the Germans. He was a great pianist but I was surprised how optimistic is his music and indeed how American it is. After I learned his story through the movie, now I also got in touch with this man personally, trough his artistry. Great feeling!!

Director Spike Lee states, "When I listen to Aaron Copland's music, I hear America, and basketball is America." That may be far-fetched for those who saw Lee's film, especially when the only other music in the film was that of Public Enemy. On its own, though, this album is a welcome "greatest hits" collection of Copland's Americana. The CD and the movie start off with John Henry, a slow-building, beguiling melody that works effortlessly with Lee's montage of basketball images. More spirited numbers such as "Hoe-Down" from Rodeo and Fanfare for the Common Man are also featured on the soundtrack. Unlike many Copland compilation CDs, this collection features abridged selections, allowing for more variety of source material: symphonies, soundtracks from movies (Of Mice and Men, Our Town), and ballets. Maybe not the CD for the purist, but a welcome first album for those who were introduced to Copland's music by the film. At over 60 minutes, it's a worthwhile investment. --Doug Thomas

Beautiful Music.......1999-09-25

The Music of Aaron Copleand is timeless and purely Amerian. Thus, it is the best choice to be in a movie about basketball, one of America's favorite sports. This collection of Aaron Copland's music introduced me to this great composer and is a perfect start for new classical listeners. SUperb.

Warning: this CD is addictive.......2007-01-12

Now in her early 60s, Asha Bhosle's voice has matured since the heyday of her Bollywood career in the 60s-70s and in these reworkings of some of her greatest hits (written by her late husband R.K.Burman) it's positively honey-like. The collaboration with Kronos Quartet is inspired: substitute electronically enhanced violins for Duane Eddy guitars and you have an inkling of the ideas flying around the disc. The liner notes are informative and there's plenty of information for the Bollywood novice. However, whether you understand Hindi or not, this is a collection of songs - humorous, romantic, tacky, and at times so hilariously naff in the way of Indian homages to western pop it's actually cool! I would be amazed if you don't want to keep going back to it, once heard.

Clever, but...........2006-04-07

Chronos has always emphasized being clever over being musical- although they are splendid musicians- and this album is perhaps the ultimate exegesis of that. The actual music is perhaps exotic, to western ears, but it is also uninteresting. Indian film music combines the sound of the East with the banality of pop, and the result isn't anything that bears more than one listening; personally, I was continually reminded of the incidental Indian-themed music that kept popping up in the Beatles' movie "Help", although that soundtrack was a bit more clever. Another volume for the library of the die-hard Chronos fan, perhaps, but not necessarily anyone alse.

Bhosle, Pavrotti, Sinatra.......2006-02-12

Some vocalists are one-of-a-kind, brilliant and beautiful, setting the standard for their particular music. Asha Bhosle is one of them. I heard her with the Kronos in performance in San Francisco, and they took my breath away. This album isn't quite the same as being there but it's very, very close. Asha, Kronos - please do it again!

Cheap music.......2006-01-02

I dont know how the kronos quartet to come down so low. The music is cheap. I couldn't hear any of the tracks completely. They were so insipid.Complete waste of money. I have heard much better from Asha.

I Think They Should Have Selected a More Contemporary Singer.......2005-11-05

I love Asha Bhosle and one only has to listen to her Live at the Albert Hall album. Problem is, she has aged, and her voice shows it. Regrettably, her vocals on this album constantly remind me of this and I can't listen to the album with pleasure. I would say the same of such wonderful singers as June Carter and Amalia Mendoza. This was a wonderful opportunity to introduce much of the world to the zaniness of Bollywood movie music, with its fabulous arrangements and wacky use of all imaginable instruments from all over the world. Instead it makes me sad to hear Asha not at her peak.

I have three of the Dinner Classics. "Dinner For Two" "Romance"
and "A Cocktail Party" All are wonderful cd's and I would like to find more, other than what is listed here. "An American Picnic" is good but I like "Dinner For Two" the best.

as a huge mxpx fan and listening to these guys for the last 11 years, this CD gets straight to the point with great punk smashing music and clever lyrics that raises eyebrows.
my personal favorite band and one of the greatest of all time in punk music.

Best MxPx album to date........2006-11-29

I'm surprised to see that a lot of the reviews of this album claim that this was not when MxPx was at their peak. Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, the follow-up to their breakout alubm Life In General, is easily their best effort to date. I can't say much about guitar or bass (since I know nothing about them), but Yuri's drums on this album are intense! Mike's vocals and lyrics are slightly more polished than those of earlier albums and the band hadn't yet hit complete "pop punk" status. This album is some good fun rock. If you're a fan of MxPx and haven't heard Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo yet, you HAVE to buy it now--this is MxPx at their peak, and it's awesome.

Somewhat disappointing...defintely not what I expected........2006-07-17

The first two songs I ever heard from MxPx were Grey Skies Turn Blue and Wrecking Hotel Rooms and I completely loved them. I was looking for more of the same when I bought this album and what I found was all fast, hard rock. I bought this album because it was so highly recommended both here and on various christian rock playlists. Now it's not like I don't like this style of music, it's just that virtually every song sounds the same because of the same overbearing drum rhythm. I'm hoping that it grows on me, but at the moment I'm kind of repulsed by it.

A good album.......2006-06-15

While not MxPx's best, this is still a great album. My favorite songs are The Final Slowdance, Inches From Life, and Tommorow's Another Day, plus a few others that I can't think of the names right now. This is a good album for any MxPx fan, but if you are new to MxPx you should start with Let It Happen, or Life In General.

This was one of those cds that you would memorize every word to and stand in front of your mirror playing air guitar in your underwear.

Get ready for the serious side of our favorite American light composer. First: have you noticed how certain works, musical or visual, have an uncanny knack for perfectly evoking the period when they were created? Thats one of the distinguishing features of the wonderful music on this new disc. The Symphony No.6 sounds exactly like the late 1940s, much the same way that classic post-war movies conjure that period. In fact, the Symphony No.6 might be the most cinematic of all of Gillis works in that form, with a wonderful sense of tension in the first movement that would be right at home on the soundtrack of The Big Sleep or This Gun for Hire. The second movement is full of excitement, like a modern analog to the scherzo of the Mendelssohn Scotch Symphony. The bluesiness of the third movement recalls Gershwin at his most relaxed, and the boisterous final movement with its cushy harmonies proves that Gillis had a lot in common with the great Broadway and Hollywood arrangers. The Symphony No.5 is probably the most serious of his symphonic output, reflecting the mood of the immediate postwar era. This contains one of his most beautiful slow movements (and if youre an ongoing fan of this series, you know how effective his quiet moments are); the keening sense of nostalgia often bears a striking resemblance to Bernard Herrmann (think in terms of his scores for The Devil and Daniel Webster or The Ghost and Mrs. Muir). The strictly fun piece of the collection is the Paul Bunyan Overture, full of rollicking spirits but, again, with a more contemplative sound. All of this is performed with the greatest enthusiasm and color by the Sinfonia Varsovia and Ian Hobson. An absolute must!

Spectacular performance, OK music.......2006-07-01

This CD is frustrating. It's nice to have world premiere recordings, in astonishingly good sound of two major Gillis symphonies. Unfortunately, none of the pieces really catch fire, and the Paul Bunyan work in particular keeps interrupting itself, unable to find a consistent mood. Probably the best movement is the slow section of the 5th symphony. The ending is one of the most eloquent we have by Gillis. Elsewhere, the 6th Symphony features dull ideas that soon wear out their welcome, and each movement is far too long for its rather meager content. Certainly the 5th Symphony is a whole lot better, especially the last two movements. Gillis' shallow gestures and trite material grows "old" rather quickly, and as a whole these pieces did not sustain my interest. 5 stars for performance and recording, 1 star for the actual music. A disappointment!

Don Gillis Gets (Mostly) Serious .......2005-07-16

As I titled my earlier Amazon review ( at http://snipurl.com/gabm ) of the previous release of Don Gillis's 'Star-Spangled Symphony' and the 'Dance Symphony', he wrote 'Absolutely Top-Drawer Light American Symphonic Music.' His brand of brash pop-music-inflected orchestral music on that release was a spot-on representation of what it was like to live in America in the mid-twentieth century. And that is just as true with the current release - two symphonies written in the 1940s, plus his later 'Paul Bunyan Overture.' Except that in the symphonies he is going for a more serious statement.

Symphony No. 5 'In Memoriam' (1945) honors those who died in World War II and its tone is appropriately somber and at times monumental. But the materials are the same as in his lighter works -- walking tenths, rich brass chords, plangent wind melodies (in particular, the lovely, sad English horn melody of the middle movement) all in typical 1940s big-band influenced orchestration. This is evocative music but it is also immediately accessible and singularly American in its straightforwardness. The finale is a lilting 6/8 tarantella/jig sometimes sounding Italian, sometimes Irish --- a fitting evocation of the American melting-pot -- and always lively, celebratory in honor of those who served and survived. And it also suggests the burgeoning optimism of the immediate 'let's-make-up-for-lost-time' postwar era, but with reminiscences of the horrible sacrifices just past.

Symphony No. 6 'Mid-Century U.S.A.' (1948, and coming right after his hilarious and very popular 'Symphony No. 5 1/2') is more of the same but is in general much livelier and lighter. At times I think I hear Indian melodies (rather like those in MacDowell's 'Indian Suite') as well as typical pop-music harmonies, Coplandesque wistfulness, American dance rhythms and, again, that open-faced optimism so frequent in Gillis's music. It is amazing to me, as it was in the earlier release, that this music can be played so idiomatically by a Polish orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, conducted by a Briton, pianist/conductor Ian Hobson. This is their third Gillis release and one might think that's why they get it so right, but in fact from the very first release they have played as if they were an American orchestra, high praise in my book.

The opening number is the 'Paul Bunyan' overture' (1964) and it is a genuinely folksy, funny, bigger-the-life 7-minute boogie-based romp. The first time I put it in my player it was so enjoyable I immediately played it three times. Gillis had the gift of writing instantly memorable melodies, and this overture has several of them.

This is another treasurable release in what appears to be an ongoing series of recordings of major Gillis orchestral works. Bravo to Hobson, Sinfonia Varsovia and Albany Records for that.

Un-noticed classic..........2004-09-13

It's been about 10 years since I've even listened to it, but as of today, I can officially say it's classic. This is very traditional thrash sounding. Horrible production, but hey, they were on Caroline back in the day and every good thrash band at first had horrible production. A little bit of typical Zombie doom n' gloom as well, although the lyrics weren't quite as vague and they would later become. Fans of early Metallica and "South Of Heaven/Seasons In The Abyss" era Slayer should be able to find something they like in this album. Definitely not the sound of the White Zombie you heard on the radio, but not too far off as well. I'd even go so far as to give this 4/5 stars had the production quality not been so low... but just turn it up! Not to mention the bass and treble as well...

Not for the squeamish.......2003-08-18

This album is not for the weekend White Zombie fan. This is raw, visceral, and should only be left to the professionals. It's unpolished, and quite crude, but then this was done before they signed with Geffen, so what can you expect?

If you're coming here, trying to decide if you should buy this album based on the reviews, then you probably won't like it. If you're a hard-core WZ fan, then you probably already have this album, and I'm wasting my breath.

However, I recommend giving it a try, no matter your level of admiration for this great band. It's a love it or hate it album.

Die slowly..........2003-07-15

It is surprising how many of Rob Zombie's and White Zombie's fans do not know this album exists. If they did manage to pick it up however, most would find it too hot to handle. This is far removed from the radio-friendly(-ish) comic book/splatter movie rock Zombie has made his name with. The common first reaction when hearing `Make Them Die Slowly' is "what was that?". So what do we get?

Probably the best way to describe the album is half-paced Thrash. OK, so Thrash is identified with it's speed and aggression. This has aggression by the bucketload. It just lacks the speed. Play it at 78rpm and you'd get something like a dark and gloomy, almost Gothic, Nuclear Assault. The riffing is fairly standard Thrash fare, nothing flashy, but catchy enough. Strangely, the riffs should be memorable, but they slip through your mind very quickly. The solos and drumming are both solid, but unimpressive because of the inability of the band to change out of second gear.

The guitar tone is, well, odd. Imagine Bob Dylan's singing voice as an electric guitar- twangy and nasal, with a hint of a whine. An unusual effect, but as memorable as the riffs are forgettable.

Anyway, enough of the instrumental sideshows, what about the main event? What about Rob Zombie's voice? Luciano Pavarotti he isn't, but like any good singer with limited ability, Zombie knows his limits. He has written the songs to fit his voice, rather than embarrassing himself trying to stretch himself too far. The subject matter of the songs is just what you'd expect from Rob Zombie- B-movie schlock horror. Zombie drawls, moans and snarls his way through such lyrical niceties as "This is murderworld sister/A deep throating little baby-face" and "Justice claws/A death horizon/ Freak-zone flesh/Maggot man rising".

Conspicuous by their absence are the movie samples overused in later White Zombie releases, and a good thing too. The samples were often more interesting than the songs. On this album, the minimalist, stripped back metal is allowed to shine through, uncluttered by obscure cinematic outtakes.

Aaron Copland: Essential Classics.......2003-11-21

This excellent introduction to the symphonic Copland repackages an earlier "Decca Double Decker" (see B000004284). Deleted are "Old American Songs" and added are "Billy the Kid" and "Danzon Cubano". These recordings were made from 1969-1994. The sonics are exemplary. The performances are all very good to excellent. Everyone has their personal favorites of these works so your mileage may vary.

Gregory Peck comes across very, very well. Warm, personal, forthright. Worth the price of the disc just to hear him deliver the words wrapped in Copland's music as directed by Metha and performed by the LA Philharmonic Orchestra.

Don't expect any copious liner notes here -- there aren't any. Just a listing of what's what and who did what. Two panels of the folded sheet are needlessly occupied by advertising other "essential" CDs. I would gladly rip them out if I didn't like the overall design so much. The art direction and design of the package is stellar but lacks "essential" or any background information.

Unless I'm mistaken, there are 5 "hits" on the first disc and 6 on the second. That's 11. The subtitle here is "12 Greatest Hits". Am I missing something?

Still, judging by what's here, the selections and performances, an excellent compilation. I'm glad to have it.
