I am sure that this CD is best of Ted. Probably re-union session after Ted died. But the performance is not changed due to traditional member's participation.

The Ted Heath orchestra is the kind of music from my childhood- years when music still was a manifestation of elegancy, beauty and handmade work. Anyway, "easy listening" is a dubious concept, it pretends to define commercial, forgettable music and artists that create with orchestras a style of an age - like Bert Kaempfert, Jackie Gleason, Burt Bacharah, Herb Alpert and many others (from the 50's to the 80's aprox.). Ted Heath is an artist. He has a complete vision: percussion, melody, latin taste of inspiration, great arrange, good choice of themes, even an aggressive and objective approach with any kind of melody. It`s a nostalgic pleasure in all senses.

I take exception to reveiwer Otto's thoughts on several counts. First I DO agree on the misleading info RE: Not the actual Ted Heath band; However...Many alumni are included and are playing original charts, and Don Lusher does a great job! Also DENNIS LOTUS who handled the male vocal chores for the touring band in the fifties is here and in great voice. Only thing missing was the female vocal styling of LITA ROSA. The best part of this CD
however is the AUDIO! The stereo presence AND directioality is as good as anything I own by the Heath band, and that includes about 20 CD's If you liked the Heath band on London, you should have this CD. It even has remarks by Ted's wife Moira. Every big band lover should indulge themselves on this one! DW

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of Ted Heath.......2002-01-17

I heard a cut (All The Time and Everywhere) on cable radio and was so captivated, I knew I had to have this CD. The band is comprised of ex-Heath sidemen and led by Heath's lead trombonist, Don Lusher. It may not have the punch some former Heath recordings had, but the repertoire doesn't lend to that. It does offer musicianship uncommonly found and the type of big band sound I wish I could get more of. The guys in this band are old timers (Heath died in "68"), but age certainly has not diminshed their talent. This CD is testimony to that.

The CD is deceptively packaged. There is no way to know that these are not the original recordings by Ted Heath without opening the package and reading the enclosed booklet. These tracks simply do not have the excitement and feeling of Ted's original recordings. Even if you haven't listened to your Ted Heath records for some time you will immediatly hear the difference.
