Throughout his career, he released only six albums - the two of which he recorded for Columbia are included here. Jazz from Peter Gunn is one of my favorite albums of all times. The music is cool and sophisticated -- everything Mancini wanted to be, but never quite managed in his own arrangements.

Wilder's spare clear trumpet rings out on the breezy, easy songs and gives them a great walking feel. When the tone gets down and dirty, Wilder's trumpet tells you just where the music is leading -- very sexy.

If you've never heard of Joe Wilder or never heard any of his music, I think this is a terrific CD to take a risk on.
