In the 1950s, guitarist Ernest Ranglin was one of the prime creators of Jamaican ska, which eventually led to reggae. Ranglin adapted the style of Wes Montgomery to his island's native musical forms. For years Ranglin was a well-kept secret in his homeland, and jazz-guitar legends Les Paul and George Benson were some of his early fans. But thanks to his recordings with Monty Alexander, Ranglin now has a legion of fans around the world. This CD highlights Ranglin's unique jazz and Carib style over some zesty ska and reggae beats. Backed by a Jamaican-American combo featuring saxophonist Antonio Hart and pianist Warren Bernhardt, Ranglin's percussive and soulful guitar lines form a strong hip-swinging link between America and the West Indies. From Ranglin's infectious original compositions such as the title track and the seductively syncopated "Soulful Moments" to his fresh versions of the reggae and pop hit "Pass the Dutchie" (a.k.a. "Pass the Louchie") to the Melodians classic, "Rock It with Me," Ernest Ranglin reigns supreme, from the jazz club to the dance hall. --Eugene Holley Jr.

Incredible!.......2005-03-06
This is the group of reggae/jazz incredibles right here. Guitar mastermind Ernest Ranglin dazzles me and will never stop. First he recruits Antonio Hart, who probably is one of the greatest saxophonists living today, and has him blow the house down. His solos on all the songs are great. Ernest himself does quite a job himself, and matches all his solos. I'd have to say this is one of the only reggae cds I like. Take a listen to all the songs, you'll never get bored.

Awesome!.......2004-09-06
This CD is worth getting. I got this CD for over 17.99, and Amazon sells it cheaper. I listened to the CD over and over, and have never gotten sick of it. I have memorized the solos which are incredible by both the saxophones and the guitar. It really is a nice mix, since the sounds of the saxophone and guitar really blend together nicely. It also helps that the players have nice flowing solos, so the songs are upbeat and never get boring. Track 3, The Bubbler has a good solo by the saxophone who sounds exactly like Michael Brecker. This is a good buy!
Very Nice Jazzy & Caribbean Mix!.......2004-03-27
Here we have a fine blend of sax, vibes, guitar, percussion, and some other varying instruments resulting in superb, rhythmic jazz flavored Jamaica sounds. Every piece is excellent, and there are some nifty guiter solos for the guitar buff! All in all, darn good. My only criticism is that the tunes and rhythms do get a bit repetitive, but still a 5-star piece!
Ranglin the master........2004-01-05
This is as good as music gets! Ranglin has again prooved himself as a guitarist without peer. This music is appropriate for any occasion and will be appreciated by everyone from 4 to 100 black, white or whatever. Ranglin needs to be heard to be believed.
wow wow.......2001-10-21
What appears to be a ska-lite or eazy listening reggae-jazz cd on first listening reveals itself as a deep groove! The deceptively simple melodies are a foil for exceptional solos and artistry. There is just good playing in abundance. It IS easy to listen to, and has a mature feel, but man, the more carefully I listen, the more I find that draws me in and back again. Moondance is exceptional stuff. A terrific little gem!

Fun cd that never received the attention it deserved.......2003-03-06
Ok, I know DLG is basically a boy-band put together by a producer fronted by the very [good looking] Huey Dunbar-that being said keep it mind that Huey sings as beautifully as he looks. The music takes risks and has fun, and the result is a really [great] cd that grooves with great fun.
The result is a cd that consistently raises my spirits whenever I listen to it. Fun is the word that keeps coming to mind-but that shouldn't undermine the fact that there is true talent and creativity here. Huey Dunbar has gone on to release a nice solo cd which also merits a listen and I enjoy-but it doesn't match the energy of DLG.
Fingernails down a chalkboard..........2000-05-26
This CD was so bad I thought it was a joke! I love latin music of all kinds, so when I saw this album recommended time and again, I thought I'd try it. The music is pretty good, but I could never get over his voice. It made me cringe listening to it. I listened to the whole CD, all the way through, because I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I ended up sending it back! Definately pass on this one.
Great fusion!.......2000-03-11
This work is pure synergy, the combined energy of hip hop, caribbean, rap and latin rythms combined to create explosive beauty. All songs are not to the level of De Oro and Acuyuye, but then again, those two are so great they'll keep some of us impatiently waiting for their next album.
EXCELENTE.......2000-01-09
Hey, I have a collection of over 75 latin cds of all kinds, and I had never gotten really anything from DLG, and I got this one.. I love it so much. My favorite songs as of now have to be. Volvere (both versions), Eres mi vida, acuyuye, A veces me pregunto. This cd is special get it, even though they broke up.
good alternative for better-known Latin stars.......1999-12-18
This is really an album that grows on you. DLG combines Latin sounds with modern dance music, like Ricky Martin, with the difference that DLG's music is much better. "Acuyuye" should have been a world-wide hit!

Mostly up-tempo, good time blues is to be found on guitarist Lloyd Jones's Blind Pig Records debut, Love Gotcha. Whether it's funky ("Nickels and Dimes") or sultry ("Ain't Nothing a Young Girl Can Do"), this is late-night bar music of the highest order, or the sort of thing you hear from someone who's constantly on the road, as Jones apparently is, judging from the track "Highway Rider." --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
Oh Lloydie Lloyd, look whatcha done!.......2003-04-15
When the man plays you jus'gotta get up offa' dat thang and get on the good foot! Yes, yes, Blue Eyed Soul is still alive and doin' mighty well.
Mr. Jones has got that inside groove thang going on. He's been paying his dues for a long time, turning out some great music and not a weak CD in the bunch. His latest "Love Gotcha" is no exception.
"Love Gotcha" was my first ticket on what has become for me a rockin' musical ride. After listening to "Love Gotcha" I just had to jump back and grab everything I could that this gifted artist has recorded. If you can find a copy of "Have Mercy- Live" grab it. The man can step to it on the Strat with a fat tone & funky style that'll make your shoe laces come untied and put a major grin on yo face. Live or in the studio he loves what he's doing and it shows!
Yes, Me & Mr Jones gotta thang going on!
If the band were any tighter, it'd snap!.......2003-02-23
Just have to join the rave reviews for Lloyd Jones' Love Gotcha. This is the real thing, from the vocals through the rhythm section and out through the horns. Memphis Blues with Oakland punch.
Thanks to CD Now's sample cuts you can check out the title track and see for yourself.
Blues album of the year!!.......2001-10-03

Delbert McClinton look out!.......2000-04-02
OH MY GOD this is the real stuff - Lloyd Jones is so like Delbert its scary. As a long time McClinton folower, I'm crazy about Jones' take on the blues. The whole package is fat - guitar to make B.B. cry, killer Hammond organ, Tower of Power like horns, and a peppery smooth vocal with the perfect smile and frown lyrics that define the blues. Does not get much better than this!

Not as good as Volume 1.......2000-11-06
I am not a big Ska fan, but I was pleasantly surprised by the "Skandalous: Gotcha Covered" CD. In Volume 2, the covers just aren't as strong as those in the original. The Hawaii-5-0 Theme is the only one that might appeal to a non-ska fan. The rest of the CD sounds like every other ska song I've heard, so it might appeal to a hardcore ska fan.
Very good collection.......2000-04-30
great collection of songs. there are a few i dont know but there are also a ton of great classics. try el pussycat by the timeless skatalites and the hawaii five-o cover is great too. a song i found by accident but is incredible is 'mother' by the independents with evil presley at his best. awesome cd
good cd.......1999-07-20
dude...this cd is pretty good...the only problem? some of the covers are of songs id never heard of...but theyre still really good songs...and the ones you will recognize (la bamba, turning japanese, hawaii 5-0) are great...this is a cd youll wanna listen to over and over

This is another ska covers compilation featuring old-style bands such as the Toasters, Bim Skala Bim, and Skavovie & the Epitones. They cover TV tunes such as the themes from Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, and Get Smart, as well as classic rock songs such as Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and Black Sabbath's "Paranoid." It's a strange but effective mix, and it's usefully for illustrating exactly how any sound can be skankified with the right elements. --Jim Derogatis

Lots Of Replayability!!! Great CD.......2005-06-06
I'm outside the US for an extended time so I loaded all my cd's
into my notebook. This one, Skandalous:I got You Covered is one of my favorites now! I picked it up a few years ago browsing through a cd bin and its been a while since I tuned to it but today when me notebook on random hit "Police Woman" I was like, oh man is that just awesome?! I've played to death my Specials, English Beat, Madness, Selector stuff and if your in the same boat wanting some different Ska check this disk out. For the low price it's selling for it's a great buy!
For Ska fans and non ska fans who watch tv!.......2000-11-06
I am not usually a big fan of ska (read: I hate it, save for the classics -- The English Beat, The Specials, etc.), but this compilation has got some great covers! The standards aren't that interesting, but the cover of Paranoid by Black Sabbath rivals The Cardigans' version of Iron Man, and the tv themes are genius! Anyone who is a fan of tv theme songs should pick this one up.
