About the Artist
Scott Moulton is an unusually gifted composer and performer. He was born in Massachusetts and raised in the natural beauty of New England's ever-changing seasons. His extended travels and diverse places of residence, including Colorado, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Idaho, have been sources of inspiration for his compositions which express his deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the spirit of the land.
Scott acquired a guitar in junior high school and soon formed a band which was heavily influenced by groups like The Byrds and The Beatles. By the time he was a high school senior, however, he'd been deeply influenced by acoustic musicians and decided to sell his rock `n roll records, quit the band, and become a folkie. Musical influences included Ian & Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Tom Rush, and Simon & Garfunkel.
In the early `70s, while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Scott's interests expanded dramatically to include classical music, jazz, and bluegrass. He learned to play the 5-string banjo, mandolin, and dobro while performing in various acoustic ensembles. In 1975 he joined the country rock band Deputy Dog and spent the next several years touring the western mountain states. After moving to Hawaii in the `80s, Scott established himself as a solo performer, and appeared in concert with Graham Nash, Jesse Colin Young, Richie Havens, Taj Mahal, and the Kingston Trio. Product Description
The idea for a musical tribute to the Southwest began as a quiet seed when Scott was living in northern New Mexico. It took root and grew, finally compelling him to return. These pieces are named for the locations in which they were written, and are dedicated to the peoples of the Four Corners Region, past and present, and to the spirit of the land, which may have had some hand in their creation.

Best of the the popular Copland..........2004-12-26
Here's a great introduction to the popular music of Aaron Copland. When "Fanfare for the Common Man" begins, sparks of recognition will fly for most listeners. This song has been everywhere: presidential inaugurations, the olympics, commercials, movies, etc. Some flatten it as hopelessly clichéd, while others find it moving and inspiring. Copland also reprised it in the finale of his Third Symphony. Arguably Copland's most famous piece, "Appalachian Spring" closes the CD. In between, more great Copland: excerpts from 'Rodeo' (apparently the beef lobby has appropriated "Hoe-Down" as one of their themes); a great vocal rendition of "Simple Gifts" and a large chunk of another of Copland's best known works: "Billy the Kid". The only confusing piece is the "Variations on a Shaker Hymn" from Appalachian Spring when the entire Appalachian Spring is already included. Seems slightly redundant.
Though most of the pieces on this CD were written in the 1930s and 1940s, they tend to evoke the old west. With titles such as "Rodeo" and "Billy the Kid" this shouldn't surprise too many people.
Copland went on to compose more dissonant and twelve tone compositions later on in his career. These obviously weren't as popular with the public in general as the pieces on this CD. Nonetheless, if this disc whets the appetite, a foray into Copland's less popular works will yield much. It will help to expose the totality of Copland's output. This disc only represents a small portion of his work. Regardless, this disc is a great starting point for getting to know one of the United States' best known composers of the twentieth century.
A Great American Album.......2004-02-13
This is a great album representing true patriotic American music. Songs like "Hoe-Down" are lively and energetic and give rememberance to what one can imagine as the true American spirit.
Must have this one..........2002-09-17
I like all types of music, I wanted this album because I liked the song "RODEO" that is used on the beef commercials. This CD has made me into a Copland fan. It has many great songs. If you want a CD that says "I am an American." This is it. I am sending copies to a friend in Bombay and Tel Aviv. This is who I am put to music.

An American Picnic.......2002-08-11
I have three of the Dinner Classics. "Dinner For Two" "Romance"
and "A Cocktail Party" All are wonderful cd's and I would like to find more, other than what is listed here. "An American Picnic" is good but I like "Dinner For Two" the best.
Worth It.......1999-11-29
This album is one of the "must haves" in the great "Masterworks Dinner Classics" series. Beautiful!

Taken Back.......2006-09-23
I first heard this CD about 10 years ago. My mother picked it up right before we decided to drive to California for a while so the CD was played over and over on our drive. And when I found the CD, covered in dust tucked away in a desk, I quickly played it and was instantly taken back to our trip. The amazing guitar work and the air that it brought was still very strong even after 10 years. I highly recommend it. And the comment about his work being "rural but not country" is very right. I'm not sure how he did it, but he pulled it off without any 'twang'. And thats a feat all on it's own.
This CD will transport you to another place!.......2003-11-07
When I read the previous reviewer say that this CD was in perfect harmony with his soul, I just had to grin and nod my head. I can put this CD on and close my eyes, and the lushness of the music just transports me to a place where I feel my spirit is alive and all my worries disappear. Even better is to listen to it with headphones, so you can hear the precise and magical elements of each musical instrument. This is a wonderfully arranged composition of music that embodies the very essence of the wilderness and nature.
Some of the catchiest guitar music out there!.......2000-11-04
Scott Moulton composes and plays some of the catchiest and most enjoyable acoustic guitar-based ensemble music out there and this album is, to my ears, his best effort. There is a lightness to these songs that perfectly captures the feeling of being outdoors in much the same way that Craig Chaquico's earliest music does, too. But, unlike Chaquico's abundant use of keyboards and more "oomph" to his guitar, Moulton's music is more "rural" in feel (but is never country-sounding). The uptempo numbers are perfect for "top-down" cruising down two-lane highways and even the relatively softer songs are not in the least bit "new agey."
So, if you're looking for a "feel good" CD that never strays into "too sugary" territory and that features some real spirited acoustic guitar work, along with some top notch ensemble playing from guest musicians, this is one album to grab ahold of.
Peaceful and discriptive music of the Four Corners area........1999-09-01
Wonderful mixture of music that absolutely represents the flavor of the country that it expresses. I love to revisit this music time and time again, and am each time, the music enables me to visualize the vibrant colors and the texture of the beautiful four corner areas.
This is my number one favorite.......1999-06-01
I don't really know how to explain it, but when I listen to this CD, I feel like it is in perfect harmony with my soul.
