Editorial Reviews
From Jazziz
Guitarist Pat Metheny's career is linked to many aspects of jazz's future. Perhaps the most recognizable guitarist on the scene, he's worked lately in free-improv contexts (1997's Sign of the Four), in gentle duets (1997's Short Stories, with Charlie Haden), and has continued to expand the sound and reach of his multiple-Grammy-winning Pat Metheny Group. Imaginary Day finds Metheny exploring world-music influences and orchestral colors and opening up new avenues for contemporary jazz. And he introduces a range of new and recent additions to his collection of axes - among them, the 42-string Pikasso guitar, the baritone guitar, and the acoustic sitar-guitar.

WOW!.......2007-03-04
the best cd i have ever heard period. I'm not even a big metheny fan but him n lyle outdid themselves with this cd, it's nothing short of amazing, every single track..
The Coincidence of Roots.......2005-07-09
A brilliant work, and no this review isn't of much help really, but I'd like to forward a theory about the guitar solo in the prog rocker Roots of Coincidence: PM had been listening to Tribal Tech guitarist Scott Henderson in the mid 90's as Scott moved away from compositional jazz-fusion toward fearless, bluesy, attitude-driven free-form guitar, decided Scott was having way too much fun at it - and with songs like "Canine" on TT's Face First who could argue? - thusly deciding to stake his claim on this invigorating new ground. It's good, interesting, but fleeting and disjointed, and Scott does it better. Still, what PMG here, on Imaginary Day as elsewhere, are able to render as musical generalists, by selecting from the full pallette of sonic colors and using each to maximum effect, ah! This, the artistic specialists and the attitude-driven often by contrast find elusive.

This album, like all things holy, requires no discussion. The deep roots of coincidence have brought you here. If you do not already possess this album, buy it and join the rest of us within the Imaginary Day.
Hypnotic.......2004-11-20
I purchased this CD around Christmas '97 and continue to listen to it from time to time. If I had to pick a deserted island CD, this would probably be it. Everything from the killer guitar solo at the end of the opening track to the hypnotic `A Story Within a Story' is just flawless (what do you expect from PMG?). Also, pick up the DVD Audio version if you have a home theater system. It's incredible.
I saw them in 2002 (front row). The musicianship was breathtaking. If you ever get a chance to see PMG, take it. You won't regret it.
Amazing on DVD-audio..........2004-07-22
I purchased Imgainary Day a few years ago and it has been my favourite Metheny album of all and, indeed, one of my favourite albums. What is most impressive is the versatility of the group, flowing from world beat, to jazz, to rock, and back. There is an intense variety here and it is complemented by the richness and fullness of the sounds. Another aspect of this album is the subtle nuances of sound such as the little bells, 'tick' sounds, chimes, 'wind' noises etc. These add to the already-complex soundstage.
Now, a few days ago, I received my order from Amazon which was a DVD-audio disk of Imaginay Day. (this requires a dvd player nad a surround sound system). As I mentionned before, there are many subtle sounds that one might not notice usually but with a DVD-audio disk, the sound opens up and becomes more full than you could ever have hoped for. The winds and ticking sounds are heard and one becomes aware of all these little sounds that make this album great. (Not to mention the incredible 5.1 channel surround sound engineering).
If you love Pat Metheny, get this album. However, I suggest a dvd-audio disk if you want to experience the music to it's full potential. DVD-audio is the way this album was meant to be heard and it doesn't disapoint. It won't be leaving my DVD player for a long time...

Every last note..........2006-06-14
A super budget 5 CD collection of all of Grainger's Piano music.
Every last note!
The shipping alone would be $17.00+ for the 5 individual Cds.
Englishman Martin Jones plays these as if he wrote them. He is thoroughly inside this music.
I think his best work to date.
He is joined on CD #5 by Richard Mcmahon and Phillip Martin. Where they rollick in various combos and trios on 1, 2 and 3 pianos. This is exhilerating. Especially on an truly uplifting version of Green Bushes.
The entire set is strongly idiomatic and given a clear, crisp, warm and spacious recording. FIRST CLASS sound.
There are too many highlights to single out, but the In A Nutshell Suite and Green Bushes are especially GOOD!
There is not a bad note or "vibe" on any of these CDs.
Highly recommended for Granger fans and fans of English Piano Music.

This CD absolutely blew me away! The vocals, the arrangements, song lyrics, just everything was as wonderful as a CD should be. I've seen this band live many times and the only thing that can rival their performance is this CD. My only regret is, now I have to wait for their next one!
I love these guys.........2000-03-22

Album Description
This is where we're comin' from: Two guitars, bass and drums. It all starts with the three "Bs": Beatles, Buddy Holly, Burt Bacharach. After that, throw in elements of Johnny Thunders, The Smithereens, Kansas, King Crimson, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Redd Kross, Motley Crue, Green Day, Gin Blossoms, Fastball and the "Rent" soundtrack. The end result is pop music that's mostly loud, consistently melodic, eminently lyrical and...did we mention loud?
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic!.......2001-04-19
This review may be a little biased considering the lead singer/guitarist (Mike Daly) is my uncle, but I'm gonna write it anyway. This album is fantastic. I've been listening to Every Damn Day since its inception, and they just keep getting better. I listen to this CD quite often and I can't ever remember skipping a song. There is no lull, no point in the album where you stop listening. It just rolls on and leaves you wanting more. An Imiginary Sitcom backs up my long running theory that these guys make better music than 99.9 percent of what's played on the radio. I highly recommend this one to anybody who likes good music.
Love ya, Uncle Mike. Let me know when Custom Cruiser will be out on disc!
The album you've been waiting for!.......2000-06-14
Wow! what an album. All hits, all the way, no filler. And they're even better live. Seriously, music fans, look no further, you *will* enjoy this cd. Turn off your radio and listen to the music that should be popular. Long live the Imaginary Sitcom!
From The Courier News, Bridgewater, NJ.......2000-04-30
With its snappy pop arrangements and killer vocal harmonies, Every Damn Day is as Beatlesque and Smithereensesque as ever. But the songwriting of frontman Mike Daly and guitarist John Reynolds works on many different levels. Both offer funny, touching insights about growing older in an increasingly colder world. The best music critics are musicians. Former Aquarian Weekly editors, Daly and Reynolds aren't music critics anymore, but they pack a bunch of their favorite musical references into their second full-length CD, including Redd Kross, Mountain, Kiss, Nirvana, The Specials, Bad Religion, Boston and Blondie. Yet because they're such good songwriters and musicians, they mix all those inspirations into a cohesive, entertaining sound.
