CBS Records (now Sony Music) didn't make a concerted effort to woo the black pop marketplace until the early '70s, so its catalog of R&B and soul was fairly thin until the advent of Sly and the Philly Sound. But that's not to say its labels--particularly OKeh--didn't release some true classics of the genre pre-Family Stone. Just because the corporate powers that be allowed great protorockers such as the Treniers and Roy Hamilton to be largely ghettoized in the '50s is no excuse to miss them now. Or that you shouldn't hear balladeer Walter Jackson's towering, elegant, grateful-to-bursting "My Ship Is Comin' In" (1967) due to the company's lousy promotion of the disc at the time. Despite whatever sins are to be atoned for (including Sony's ego-tripping series Soundtrack to a Century, this set's raison d'être, From Doo-Wop to Hip Hop does tickle one's historic imagination by bringing together raucous touchstones such as "I Put a Spell on You" (in its slightly snipped version) and "Bring the Noise" and smooth ones such as "Me and Mrs. Jones" and "Pony." --Rickey Wright

From Amazon.co.uk

Amy Winehouse's second album, Back to Black, is one of the finest soul albums, British or otherwise, to come out for years. Frank, her first album, was a sparse and stripped-down affair; Back to Black, meanwhile, is neither of these things. This time around, she's taken her inspiration from some of the classic 1960's girl groups like the Supremes and the Shangri-Las, a sound particularly suited to her textured vocal delivery, while adding a contemporary songwriting sensibility. With the help of producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, "Rehab" becomes a gospel-tinged stomp, while the title track (and album highlight) is a heartbreaking musical tribute to Phil Spector, with it's echoey bass drum, rhythmic piano, chimes, saxophone and close harmonies. Best of all, though, is the fact that Back to Black bucks the current trend in R&B by being unabashedly grown-up in both style and content. Winehouse's lyrics deal with relationships from a grown-up perspective, and are honest, direct and, often, complicated: on "You Know I'm No Good", she's unapologetic about her unfaithfulness. But she can also be witty, as on "Me & Mrs Jones" when she berates a boyfriend with "You made me miss the Slick Rick gig". Back to Black is a refreshingly mature soul album, the best of its kind for years. --Ted Kord

Album Description

Hailed by Newsweek Magazine as a cross between Billie Holiday and Lauryn Hill, British soul singer Amy Winehouse's U.S. debut, Back To Black hits the US amid a flurry of accolades, radio and TV buzz unprecedented in recent years for a young siren.

Her brassy mix of emotive vocals tinged with 60's girl-group stylings, sly funk, and anguished jazz, sparked the New York Daily News to crown Back To Black a "marvelous debut that would do Etta James proud" while New Yorker Magazine called her "a fierce English performer whose voice combines the smoky depths of a jazz chanteuse with the heated passion of a soul singer," and Spin Magazine affirming "there's never been A British star quite like her."

Back To Black smolders with a bristling fusion of old school doo-wop/soul inflected uprisings, (the charismatic singer/songwriter wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the album) brewing instant classics such as the Shirley Ellis influenced "Rehab," the Supremes tinged title song "Back To Black," the aching "Wake Up Alone," and the album's closer, "Addicted."

4 out of 5 stars Finally a breath of fresh air!....Musically.......2007-07-11

Any Winehouse is the best thing to come along in YEARS. With a touch of girl group pop and motown soul, and a dash of jazz Amy's got it. When she sings she reminds me of Etta James. For just being 23 years old her lyrics speak of love lost and found as if she had been 40. Not to be negative...the people who don't get what she is all about are really missing out on something special. Amy Winehose fills a void that has been missing in the music industry for the last 15 years. I look forward to her next album. And Amy if you read this....You rock girrrl!

4 out of 5 stars FLASHBACK.......2007-07-10

THIS ALBUM IS PRETTY GOOD. A VERY SOULFUL ALBUM. IT TAKES YOU BACK. TO ME ITS AN ALBUM THAT I HAVE TO BE IN THE MOOD TO LISTEN TO. HER HIT SONG "REHAB" I CAN LISTEN TO ANY DAY.

1 out of 5 stars Sorry folks...........2007-07-08

Don't see (or hear) the hype about this one. Actually, I'm not sorry.Too many of these non singing folks who are just here for a minute. We need to hear more Amel, More Jill, More Goapele(?). Talented folks who can sing. BTW, Where is MAXWELL? What's he doing? Tyrese SURPRISED me! Brova' can sing! And Ac k t (as Marisa Tomei says in My Cousin Vinny).

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-07-08

Amy Winehouse is very refreshing. She reminded me of a young Timi Yuro with the runchyness of Milli Jackson. I cannot wait to here what next she has available.

There's a cool new development in summer singles: they no longer need to be sunny. In fact, the wetter the better. "Umbrella," the first single off Rihanna's ragingly good third album, may be her strongest ditty yet, and that's saying something considering her run of past summer chartbusters. More stylish than "S.O.S." (from A Girl Like Me) and more interesting than "Pon de Replay" (from Music of the Sun), "Umbrella" barrels forward with big, brawny drums and a hot but haunted-sounding vocal. From there, the upbeat numbers chug forth like chilled pina colada mix into a blender: "Breakin' Dishes" trades skillfully on a recent vogue for man-directed venom, and "Shut Up and Drive" borrows "S.O.S."-style from the '80s New Order song "Blue Monday." Both are irresistible. So, too, are a couple of late tracks. "Rehab" and "Lemme Get That," both produced by Timbaland, prove that being an island girl is no barrier to holding one's own amid a sizzling stew of urban beats. In fact, it's a boon--one that'll register with pop music fans instantly. -Tammy La Gorce

I THINK THIS IS ONE OF HER BEST ALBUMS. SHE REALLY SHOWS HER VERSITILITY ON THIS ONE. I CAN LISTEN TO ALMOST THE ENTIRE ALBUM AND WHEN YOU CAN DO THAT YOU KNOW ITS WORTH GETTING

4 out of 5 stars Okay, for what it is.......2007-07-09

I listened to this at work and heard it quite a few times over the course of around 5 days. It annoyed some of my workmates and others didn't mind it - I quite enjoyed some of the music on this album, which is undoubtedly well produced. I imagine that it would sound quite good played up loud at a party or in a club.

Some of the song lyrics struck me as being a little silly, but that didn't bother me too much.

I don't think I'd listen to this album very often, but if I had a lot of guests over for a party, I'd consider playing it if people looked like they may want to dance.

"Good Girl Gone Bad" is a good album. I feel Rihanna has taken her music to a new level and it really shows in her music. If she keeps this up she'll go a long way. I recommend this album to anyone who is a Rihanna fan or people who appreciate her music.

5 out of 5 stars Please don't stop the music!!.......2007-07-09

I cannot stop listening to this album repeatedly! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Rihanna is a truly talented artist. I love her songs, beats, and her attitude on this album. This album makes me wanna get up and dance. Check out Breakin' Dishes...I didn't like it right away, but after hearing it a few times, it captures the anger a woman can feel for a man doing her wrong.

If you thought Black Eyed Pea-sized bites of Fergie might be all you could handle--that a full plate of Fergie is possibly too much for any discerning musical palate--The Dutchess might change your mind. For here the lumpen lady throws caution to the wind and threads her pop needle with an ambitious ribbon of yet-to-be-conquered genres: reggae and ska on "Mary Jane Shoes," with Rita Marley; vintage soul on "Here I Come"; '80s hip-hop on "Fergalicious"; and sophisticated R&B on the John Legend-assisted "Finally." It's a tremendous and unpredictable expenditure of effort that mostly pays off--echoes of more talented vocalists like Pink, Beyoncé, and Christina Aguilera poke through in places. But while unbridled messing about can pay handsome artistic dividends (here, the guitar-propelled rock-like track "Big Girls Don't Cry" coughs them up), ultimately it's when Fergie's at her Peas-iest that she's most lovable; cases in point are the raunchily irresistible "London Bridge," which earned every week of its chart-topping success, and the will.i.am-assisted "Clumsy," a girl-group-styled bump-a-thon that showcases Fergie's coolest and most distinctive asset--her personality--to winning effect. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good singles but lots of filler.......2007-07-08

I wasn't really a Black Eyed Peas fan so I was surprised I enjoyed Fergie's singles so much. From the hardcore "London Bridge" to the 80's rap feel of "Fergaliscious" to the self-descriptive "Glamerous" her singles are just amazing. I also love the single "Big Girls Don't Cry." I wasn't however a fan of the album besides the singles. There is a lot of filler and you can tell this album was rushed for the market. Thanks to youtube (where you can listen to the songs for free!) I was able to listen to this album without buying it and I am dissapointed with Fergie. Hopefully next time she'll release a good album with good songs besides the radio singles. If you're a fan of Fergie from listening to her on the radio then I wouldn't reccomend this album. Sorry but I think I'll pass.

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Albums I've Ever Heard.......2007-06-22

I just bought this album last night and I loved all of the songs instantly, which doesn't usually happen to me. All of the songs are catchy and fun, very few of them are flops. I would recommend this album to all!

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good.......2007-06-21

I was not really interested in buying this album but I decided to get it after I heard GLAMOROUS. The album is actually good. I love the beats and it is very original which is hard to come by with todays music. My personal recommendation is that Fergie is no longer "The Dutchess" she is THE QUEEN.

4 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag.......2007-06-12

Fergie is young, fun, and funky and marches to a different beat...think Gwen Stefani. Her music is funky, but her lyrics are creative. Not as bubble gum as some pop artists, and come on....we get tired of hearing the same words written to a different beat....that's why I like Fergie. Even if she does like to spell a lot....hey...she's no dummy...haha.
Glamourous is a cool song, and "Big Girls don't cry" shows that she really has a great voice. Her songs are not obvious, and more creatively written than other songs of this genre. "London Bridge" is not a song that I personally like, but is different and creative. "Fergalicious" is fun, and hip saong that you can dance too. "Here I come", a cover, is a good remake too. Fergie has a lot of appeal - to women and men, and does have an amazing range, and a good show of versatility here that I think will throw her into the front of the scene for a bit. She's here to stay, and I welcome change, even in it's funkiest form.

4 out of 5 stars I personally like her...........2007-06-02

Okay so she's not like most other artists out there.... big deal! That's exactly why I like her because she's not afraid to be herself and makes no apologies for it. I didn't like London Bridge when it first came out but after hearing it it became tolerable and now I listen to it if I happen to hear it. Glamorous is one I don't hear much but I like it nonetheless. But overall, my favorite song is Big Girl's Don't Cry because although it is vague you still get what she's trying to say and at this point in time I identify with this song. I don't own the album but I will buy it.

R&B with tempo: Justin Timberlake resurrected it, and it's proving way more influential than that other lost commodity--sexy--he claimed to be bringing back in 2006 on FutureSex/LoveSounds. Timberlake is to Robin Thicke what 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys were to a band like O-Town, in fact: he pretty much made it all possible. But even though it took one blue-eyed soulster with a hot look and an achy falsetto to bang down the door for another, Thicke presents a convincing case here that he had the goods to get us grooving all along: Evolution is a classy disc that tiptoes up to its listeners, first with an elegant duet with Faith Evans ("Got 2 Be Down"), next with a slick lament that wouldn't sound out of place on a Boyz II Men disc ("Complicated"), and then with a sweet plea that commands a finger-snap ("Would That Make U Love Me"). By the time we reach the long, sweeping lullaby that is the final track, "Angels," we've also had a taste of Thicke's swaggering side ("I Need Love," "Cocaine"), his hip-hop loving side ("All Night Long" and "Shooter," both with Lil Wayne), and the side that fantasizes about 1950s Latin ballrooms ("Everything I Can't Have," a hot tamale of a number that commands a visual if ever there was one: it's impossible to hear this song without imagining a raven-haired woman with a red rose between her teeth). Despite the range of moods on display, they're all in service to Thicke's inner R&B smoothie, and they all brush up against the ear with something like affection. Hard as it will be for listeners of a certain age to get past knowing that Thicke is the son of Alan Thicke, the actor who did his part to cheese up 1980s TV with the sitcom Growing Pains, they're going to have to: with his fan base swelling by the second, the evolution of Robin Thicke is going to be a deservedly loud one. --Tammy La Gorce

The album is filled with incandescent magic. It is an album that tells the tales of love, loss, temptation, redemption and finding hope when all the odds are against you. One spin of FutureSex/LoveSounds and it's hard to believe that Justin Timberlake was ever a boy-band barnstormer--no modern-day male artist beats him when it comes to single-minded self assurance or suavity. "SexyBack," the inescapable summer sizzler of a first single off this short and thrillingly unwholesome disc, makes that clear on its own: If there was ever any question about whether sexy was in need of reviving--a doubtful proposition at best, given the sheer volume of JT's gyrating counterparts--he lays it to rest instantly over a small but insistent Timbaland-concocted beat. On that track, Timberlake's appeal is his sweet but newly thuggish-sounding voice--here's a good kid gone bad, and he's determined to convince us of it not only by tossing a few well-timed mother****ers our way but also with such lyrics as "I'll let you whip me if I misbehave." The rest of FutureSex will feel familiar to anyone who picked up 2002's brilliantly funk-flecked Justified: "Love Stoned/I Think She Knows Me," shifts from Michael Jackson-esque paranoid trilling to pulsating guitar rock; "Chop Me Up," a collaboration with Three 6 Mafia and Timbaland, gives up the grit rap-style but still manages to recall both Prince and Stevie Wonder; "My Love," with T.I., mines classic Timberlake territory with meltaway lyrics like "I can see us holding hands walking on the beach/Our clothes in the sand"; and the straight-up but groovy lament "Losing My Way" asks, searchingly, what may be the silliest question a squeal-inducing pop star has ever posed: "Can anybody out there feel me?" Rest assured, JT: we feel every past-, present-, and future-sexy verse. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars JUSTIN IS HOT AND HIS MUSIC HOTTER!!!.......2007-07-06

I must say that I was very surprised that the whole CD was unbelievable... not just tracks Sexy Back and What Goes Around that is now being played in most radio stations. Every song was amazing, with great lyrics and jammin' beats. It just underlines and reiterates the incredible artistic tales of this dude. I will say that this is my first CD from him as I have bought only single tracks in the past - and definitely will not be the last. Thanks Justin, for a totally kickin' and rockin' album. LOOOOOOOVE it. Definitely blasting this on the way to Vegas!

4 out of 5 stars Best one yet!.......2007-07-05

This is Justin's best CD. His sound is blended well with Timbaland and other artists. Good funky, r & b, and hip hop sounds.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice.......2007-07-03

When I first got the CD as a gift, I only listened to the songs I had heard on the radio. One day I decided to sit down and listen to the entire thing. With the exception of maybe two songs, I love the CD. Second time was much better than the first. Good job!!

1 out of 5 stars Perfect for Nickelodeon?.......2007-06-26

I am shocked that the author of this explicit album hosted the Nickelodeon Kids Awards. This is inexcusable, and a huge failing for the network. Kids listen to TV more than they ever did their parents, and what is this teaching them? I am 22 years old and I know that when I watched Nickelodeon ten years ago they never would have allowed such a person to host the awards.

Boring is the only way to describe this over produced and over hyped album.

Few bands of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock and roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the B ," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential. --Genevieve Williams

An excellent greatist hits CD, I used a handful of songs to burn a CD with other related style of music.

listening to this CD makes you realize how great john fogerty was back in the day. great songs, great sound.

5 out of 5 stars Gets me going in the morning.......2007-06-27

I've been listening to this CD for 2 weeks in my car on the way to work.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack of an era.......2007-06-15

This is an excellent compilation of CCR's tunes from the late 60s, early 70s. There's a reason why Credence tunes kept popping up in movies and commercials. It's great music and evocative of the era from which it comes. No need for me to review the individual tunes; anybody with a radio has head most of them. A must-have for any music fan.

5 out of 5 stars Fogerty.......2007-06-10

Great value. If you are into the 60s' and 70s' you will love this one.

Elliott Yamin's debut is so agreeable and well-executed it may well convert hardened R&B experts--the kind who'd normally distance themselves from a disc with a TV pedigree. With sincerity and a voice that vaults itself to places no talent-show contestant should be able to go, Yamin bares his soul here in a way that would do his hero, Donny Hathaway, proud. Tracks like "Take My Breath Away" and "You Are the One" find him twisting a wrench around love-stained lyrics; "I'm the Man" and "Find A Way" flow with hat-in-hand grace (and, in the case of the latter, a scat worthy of a vintage jazz stage); and opener "Movin' On" immortalizes the season five judges'-table words of Paula Abdul: Ellliott Yamin is "one funky white boy." As he proves with this five-star album, he is also among the most gifted artists ever to a turn a stint on the show into a recording career. --Tammy La Gorce

Very well done. Not as good as Daughtry's, but darn close. His sound is smooth and jazzy. Definitely good riding in the country music!

    2 out of 5 stars Elliot Yamin.......2007-07-07

I'm a big Elliot Yamin fan and guess I was hoping for more than I got. It has a couple good songs but for me that was about it. If I had heard it before I bought it, I would not have bought it. Better luck next time, if there is a next time after this.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-07-06

A great CD. His music is a wonderful break from all the hip hop/rap on the radio today.

2 out of 5 stars Excellent Singer - Weak CD.......2007-07-05

I was very disappointed in this CD. The song choices were poor and the vocals were weak. I could not even add it to the CD's played in my car.

Some music is celebrated for its elegant subtlety; Pink's slams you over the head. Four albums in, she's not changing her formula. I'm Not Dead touches on bulimia ("Stupid Girls"), war-mongering politicians ("Dear Mr. President"), teen angst ("Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self," "Runaway"), overheated pickup artists ("U + Ur Hand"), and gross materialism ("I Got Money Now"). None of it, in other words, is for featherweight listeners. Then again, none of it suits eggheaded college tastemakers either. Where this translates, then, is with those willing to man up and embrace what makes Pink Pink: her spellbinding ability to render rebelliousness in all the many colors of the rainbow. Neil Young-inspired acoustic guitar is sketched into "The One That Got Away," but it's just as quickly scribbled over by Joan Jett-style ranting (on "Long Way to Happy") and Janis Joplin/Joss Stone-fueled howling (on "Who Knew"). Even R&B gets its turn ("I Got Money Now"). The album also includes appearances from the Indigo Girls, who duet on "Dear Mr. President," and Pink's father, who joins for the hidden track "I Have Seen The Rain." Pink pulls all of this off, and probably without even breathing hard. She's not dead. --Tammy La Gorce

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic discovery!.......2007-06-28

I never was a fan of hip hop/dance/rap music, so I never really paid attention to Pink. I'll be the first to admit that was a big mistake. I heard "Who Knew" on the radio and was absolutely bowled over! I immediately went out and bought the album based on that one song. Turns out the album is full of fantastic musical gems. I didn't realize she changed her style to more of a rock/pop style. "Stupid Girls" is a great social statement (and totally made me think of Paris Hilton). "Who Knew" is one of my favorite songs of all times. "Long Way to Happy" is so catchy and awesome, it's my 2nd fave on the album. "Nobody Knows", "Dear Mr. President" and "I Got Money Now" are all great slowed down songs. I almost cried the first time I heard "Dear Mr. President". Extremely political and so very true, beautifully sung and deserves a lot of attention. "U + Ur Hand" and "Leave me Alone" are fun and full of attitude.

I'd like to add that not only is this album awesome, but I finally found out that Pink is an incredible vocalist and performer. Based on that, I ended up buying Misunduztood and there are several songs on that album I loved as well. I just wish I had noticed Pink long before this! Buy the album, you won't be disappointed!

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-06-10

Great album! Pink has really shown some great range! This cd is way beyond some "Stupid Girls".

5 out of 5 stars AH! SHE OUT DID HERSELF!.......2007-06-06

EXCELLENT. EXCELLENT. EXCELLENT. A PINK MUST HAVE.

    Intelligent, thoughtful, inspiring!

5 out of 5 stars Wow! I know I'm late but this album is excellent!.......2007-06-05

"Stupid Girls" and "U + Ur Hand" got the attention but "Who Knew" and "Nobody Knows" really are great standouts as well. Pink has great vocals and she's versatile (her acoustic songs sound great as her pop/rock songs). Pink is really talented and I'm really late in finding this out. But I will be checking out her "artistic" debut "M!ssundaztood" (her proper debut was "Can't Take Me Home"). The best thing about this album is that it has personality. I know that sounds silly but what I mean it's fleshed out. It's probably the most entertaining album I've heard all year.

    5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2007-05-31

Don't be put off by the explicit rating, and don't buy it from Amazon despite the great price. You owe it to yourself to go to the store and buy this album right now. Pink finally deserves to be lauded as an artist.

    R. Kelly's rep could be considered controversial at best, but that's not to say the man who does for raunch what Beyoncé does for backsides (that is, caused the masses to arrive at a more multidimensional consideration) is not a fascinating artist. On Double Up, arguably his most sex-crazed, diabolically sleazy CD to date, Kelly grunts like a monkey, envisions a hot and heavy interplanetary romp, and indulges in NC-17-rated rhymes. Stylistically, the self-described king of R&B kicks up a hip-hoppy storm, spitting rapid-fire rhymes and tossing the 'n' word around too freely. But then there's the saving grace: that voice. Throughout a couple of inspirational numbers and collaborations with friends such as Usher ("Same Girl") and Nelly ("Tryin' to Get a Number"), Kelly does what he did so capably on the megahit "I Believe I Can Fly": he reaches even reluctant listeners with deep-seated sincerity. Even when he doesn't, he still knows how to capture catchy--first single "I'm a Flirt," for example, locks it up with a whisper and a wink. --Tammy La Gorce

    Album Description

Kelly joins forces with some of the hottest and best Hip-Hop talent and the result is fiercly sexy. From the amazing duet with Usher "Same Girl", to the smooth stylin of "Freaky In The Club," fans around the globe will jump at the opportunity to Double Up with R. Kelly

    Customer Reviews:

    1 out of 5 stars What a shame!.......2007-07-06

The completely unnecessary use of profanities makes this unsuitable listening to genuine music lovers. Come on Mr Kelly, there are young people out there who look up to you, and expect better. There are a few good tracks but I did not finish listening to this and doubt I will play it again.

1 out of 5 stars What Does The "R" really stand for?.......2007-07-05

What does the R in his name really stand for? RAUNCHY!!! And this Raunchy R&B King has left the building and should not come back after this cd! I used to be a big fan of R Kelly's but after listening to this cd, I could not even get through most of the songs on it. I found it to be so tasteless and it showed that R. Kelly has no CLASS!!! He has reached an all time low with this cd. We all know that R can sing, write and produce, but it seems like he is so consumed with partying and sex, sex, sex. It makes one wonder whether he is confused about who he is and what he really wants to be doing in his life. One minute he is singing about getting you so wet and the next, he is singing about God. He has such a gift that he can even sing gospel music and touch your heart. It makes you wonder, is he trying to serve two Masters?, because you can't. I think that this is the WORST Cd that he has every made! There are a handful of songs on there that are okay. The duet with Usher, Same Girl and why in the heck would he put a song on this cd dedicated to the people of the Virgina tragedy called Rise Up. The majority of the cd is just nasty!!! I think that R Kelly believes that he can sing anything and it will sell and it pretty much has happened whether it goes gold, or platinum. Some of his previous works have been about sex and partying but not to the extend of what he is singing about on this cd. He uses the "MF" and "N" word a lot on this cd and it's like he is saying, "f _ _ _ all ya'll cause I can sing what I want and still get paid"! I would not recommend anyone buy this cd unless they want to hearing about f _ _ __ _ _ _, smoking, partying or fighting. What a waste of money! What a waste of talent and if he keeps this up, he may find himself caught up in a lot more sorted things besides being accused of having sex with minors and making dirty music. If ya wanna be the King of R&B, start singing like one and stop putting your sorted sex life or fantasies on cd's. It would be nice to see him do a REAL R&B Cd without all the cursing and sex acts that he seems to sing a lot about. Kings & Queens lead by example, walk upright with pride and dignity and keep their private affairs and fantasies in their bedrooms. Now, Let's pop the Crystal on that!

    Word!

    2 out of 5 stars It's a shame, Robert.......2007-07-03

Double Up is right up there with TP.3 as far as being R. Kelly's worst album. Every artist is allowed a foul-up. Kells' foul-up was TP.3, but he's done it again with Double Up. It doesn't appeal to those who came up with him during the time of Born into the 90's, 12 Play, R. Kelly and R. Like many reviewers have stated, R. is 40 now. It's time to make music to reflect it. Double Up has some of the weakest lyrics I've ever heard from an R & B album. You're not 25 anymore, and neither are the majority of your fans. Don't just say you're the "king of R & B". Prove it to us.

    1 out of 5 stars A big disappointment .......2007-07-03

I was really looking forward to his album, but once I heard the album I was highly disappointed. The only songs that I really like are Freaky In Club and the Zoo, I like those songs mainly because if the beat. R.Kelly you are very talented, please make your music for the older crowd, because we were all clubbing when we were buying your albums in the 90's.

2 out of 5 stars Where the hell is the King of RnB???.......2007-07-01

For the last 15 years I have been a die hard R. Kelly fan...I got a little shaky when the charges came up, But nevertheless I still rocked with him. NOW...I dont know. Its like I'm 24 and even I'm tired of the club songs. I want the R. Kelly that recorded Born in the 90's, 12play, R. Kelly, TP2, R. (2disc) and Chocolate Factory. TP3 and this double up, I can do without. As funny as "real talk" is, its nothing you can sing with...nothing you want to sing 10 years from now like you would "Slow Dance." This is disposable music thats he's putting out right now! COme on now, 40 yr olds in Doo rags in the club poppin bottles is wack!!! Kells its time to let it go and grow into the legend that you are destined to be...dont mess it up trying to conform to what everyone else is doing, you are much better than that. Tisk, Tisk...this is what Mid life crisis is about...
