Editorial Reviews
Stuart Broomer, Cadence
...meticulously executed, technically adroit music. It swings brightly through a catalogue of keyboard approaches, a pleasant warmthâ¦consistently entertaining.
Product Description
Piano virtuoso Billy Taylor has stood at the forefront of the jazz world for almost half a century. At the peak of his powers, he brings matchless grace and authority to these robust interpretations of originals and old favorites.
"In August of 1996, Bob Karcy suggested I make a recording for his new record company, Arkadia Records. His video company, V.I.E.W. Video, was doing very well and he wanted to expand into recording. We had decided to work together and this seemed to be a good way to start. Chip Jackson and Steve Johns had been working with me for about three years and during that period we had performed in many different musical settings with a wide variety of musicians, so I decided it was time to record some of the music we liked to play as a trio. Since my most recent recordings had been done in studios, I thought it might be more interesting to use another kind of space. We chose the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck, New York, because of the fine acoustics and the feeling of intimacy on stage. Since my last two albums were thematic, I just called some tunes and we recorded them. We hope listening to the music will be as much fun as playing it." -Billy Taylor
