From Jazziz
The lasting influence that pianist Bill Evans had on the jazz world surfaced again with Don Sebesky's 1998 tribute disc, I Remember Bill. Sebesky, the arranger-in-residence for many classic CTI recordings in the '70s, here presents a collection of Evans compositions and inspirations, including renditions of "So What" and "Blue in Green" from Miles' Kind of Blue (when Evans was in Davis' band). Featured is Sebesky's arrangement of Evan's "Epilogue." It showcases the clarinet of Eddie Daniels, whose comfort level with orchestral settings is also well-evidenced on 1995's The Five Seasons (Shanachie).

Thoughtful and daringly conceived one moment, lightweight and saccharine the next, arranger Sebesky's heartfelt tribute to the innovative pianist Bill Evans triumphs despite its occasional missteps.

Excellent Arangements and Fine Musicianship.......1999-12-31
There is a lot of magic here. On Miles' "So What", we are launched into a musical tornado, and within seconds left with only guitar, bass and drums. When the melody comes, it at double tempo, giving rise to fine haunting solos by our musicians. Another heart felt piece, "Blue in Green", with lyrics by Sebesky and the voice of Jeanie Bryson is a gem.
If you're a jazz buff, this should be in your collection. If you're looking for fine composition and arrangements, with some of the best players in jazz, look no further.
A unique concept from a unique man........1999-03-01
