"His appearance with the top saxmen in the genre confirms his emerging status as a star on the rise..."
Product Description
"The title says it all...SOPHISTICATION. This indeed is a sophisticated, polished, impeccably produced and performed Smooth Jazz sax album! Lauren Wood.......2002-03-08
Bought this CD for a special song and loved hearing all the songs Lauren sings to on this cd. It's great to play during a dinner or when some friends are over.
No duds in the bunch.......2000-05-31
Lauren Wood, best known for her hit "Fallen" has put together an album of a dozen songs that takes this reviewer on a trip back to the Beatles. With at least 4-5 real hits waiting to don the airwaves, there are no duds in the bunch whatsoever. The ballad Back in Time, is so heart wrenching, it almost hurts to listen to the words. The Beatles influence is so strong, it was a little spooky. You can hear McCartney bass lines with that distinct melodic tone as well as Lennon-type vocals and guitar. Her voice is what makes the album complete. At times she's a deep contralto, other times she sings thin wispy BV's that blend with the music perfectly. The levels of musicalnship is very high. When was the last time you heard a cymbal cresando with mallets played this well (in the sure hit "Back in Time")? Look for the hits to be 1)"The Big House" song about subdivisions buring like the Amazon 2)" Back in time" - tear-out-your-heart ballad. 3) "I'm Usually Obsessed" - chicken-picken (dang near Country-Funk) guitar 4) "Twisted Reality" -complete w/ that trademark Hofner Beatle bass. Must listen Bruce
She's back, thank god........2000-04-14
Lauren Wood is one of those rare women, she has both talent and voice, and proves that she can belt with the best. Using reflections of her life, Lauren digs deep into her soul, and comes up with many fabulous tracks. Check out her web site. It's great. Glad to have you back, and hope for many more fantastic CD's from the best singer ever, period!
Lauren Wood.......2000-04-04
If you liked the cool jazzy sound of "Please Don't Go" and "Fallen" from Lauren Wood in the 1980s, you probably won't like the standard rock 'n' roll instrumentals and lyrics of this new album. The bonus track of "Fallen" simply doesn't belong with the twelve new tracks. I'm sad to see such a bendable voice as Wood's get lost in all too familiar rock licks. She can do so much in modulating her voice, that to hear thse songs indicates a loss of direction for her. I hope she'll return to what made her distinctive.

Album Description
The Hollywood Blue Flames began life in 1975 as The Hollywood Fats Band, led by guitar phenomenon Michael "Hollywood Fats" Mann, and featuring what was arguably the best traditional blues line-up this side of 1954 - the multi-talented Al Blake on harmonica and vocals, legendary bassist Larry Taylor from Canned Heat, veteran drummer Richard Innes, and featuring Lloyd Glenn protege Fred Kaplan on piano. Sadly, Fats passed away unexpectedly in 1986, and the band members all went on to other successful musical ventures.
Now they've reunited for one of the most anticipated blues releases in years, under the banner The Hollywood Blue Flames - appropriately named, as they both fired and carry the torch of the blues into a new millennium. And to fill the huge musical shoes of Fats, no one could be a better choice than Kirk Fletcher, a young man who was literally raised on the sounds pioneered by the original incarnation of this band. Fletcher plays with the taste and power that truly does justice to not only this band's illustrious legacy but also the blues masters who inspired them.
The Hollywood Blue Flames literally burn their way through a set of fresh originals sprinkled with well-chosen covers on their new CD "Soul Sanctuary." This is blues with both a history and a future - and it's as fresh as today. It doesn't get any better than The Hollywood Blue Flames.

Too Cool West Coast Blues.......2006-09-23
I also stumbled upon this CD and thought I had found the Holy Grail. You can smell the smoke and taste the gin when listening to this disk. The rhythm section is rock solid, the guitar work outstanding and the interplay between the guitar and piano is just mesmerizing to me. I really enjoy the harmonica and vocal stylings too. It's just an outstanding CD and I can't stop listening to it. I would highly recommend you give this a try, the Road to Rio disk and the Hollywood Fats recordings - you won't regret it.
Where have I been?.......2006-09-09
This is another album I luckily stumbled upon. If you want hip hop, this probably is not for you, unless you have finally come to your musical senses. If you've had life experiences they sing about ( within reason, of course...I mean, who has been "born on a mountain, raised in a lion's den"?, it makes the songs more personal and special.
My favorites:
Coco Puffin' ( the sample doesn't include the soul stirring guitar work of Kirk Fletcher...maybe you can listen to the whole song from an online music service)
Flamed
Nit Wit
I'm a Lucky, Lucky Man
Black Cat Bone

This Is A Great Album!.......2005-05-20
This is a great album in the west coast and Chicago style blues. The band is the late Hollywood Fat's band (Hollywood Fats = Michael Mann) with Kirk Fletcher on guitar. Al Blake on vocals, harmonica & guitar, Richard Innes on drums, Fred Kaplan piano & organ, Larry Taylor bass. Kirk Fletcher is a superb guitar player and this album is a must have if you like guitar players like Ronnie Earl, Dave Specter, Alex Schultz & Steve Freund! The rest of the guys are as good as it can get!

Inspired by a UK bankcard ad and daring to encroach on the shadow of the Austin Powers franchise, this Bond film satire may well end up as The Spoof That Got Left in the Cold. But in perfect contrast to star Rowan Atkinson's broad physical humor, composer Edward Shearmur delivers a deliciously deadpan musical score that skewers the 007 canon from twangy-guitar main theme to romantic Euro interludes and action-packed chases. Anchored by Robbie Williams' suitably earnest mock Bond-song "A Man For All Seasons" and seasoned with evocative tracks of Moloko's electronica and the suitably named Bond's classics-meets-worldbeat sensibilities, Shearmur's score brings it all to a satisfying conclusion on "Agent No. 1," where the former Pink Floyd/Shakespeare's Sister sideman showcases his own considerable synth and keyboard skills. --Jerry McCulley

Excelent Soundtrack...........2006-07-04
This soundtrack Johnny English is very inspirational you can sit down put on your headphones and enjoy the music the first track with Robin Williams is a very relaxing song i think that it makes a very good main titles theme..
When you watch the film and listen to the soundtrack you remember the funny scenes of the movie.
I hope they make Johnny English Movie i can see a Sequel
Not Bond, but not bad..........2005-11-23
The themes for "Johnny English" are quite good and very nice to listen to. So yes, when you listen to them, images of Rowan Atkinson ARE going to form in your head, but it's generally a very cool soundtrack. The first track, "A Man of all Seasons" by Robbie Williams is nice and is definitly a sing-along song!
If you liked this movie and are a fan of espionage type music, you'll probably enjoy this album.
Quite a fun CD to listen to........2005-09-19
I personally enjoyed the movie, and soon found the soundtrack via Amazon.com. I couldn't find it anywhere else, so I was glad I did. In my opinion, it is a CD that you can listen to time and time again. The first track, entitled "A Man For All Seasons" by Robbie Williams made a great opening credits theme, and it a fun song to get the CD going. I recommend this CD to anyone who has seen and enjoyed the movie.
The best soundtrack I've ever heard..........2004-02-06
I love this soundtrack. It's loud and clear and swinging and perfect music for the movie. I love it more every time I play it (which is often). (It's great to play it at work when the stress gets too much.)

It sounds like someone who's been around a long time, is totally comfortable with this music, and has surrounded himself with some of the best in the biz, like Jeff Lorber (who, by the way, calls Grady "the awesome new sax player of the millennium."), as well as Chris Botti, A. This Tulsa family man is totally tuned in to what works in Smooth jazz, and has delivered it in abundance on this, his 4th release (first for Compendia). The first radio single, "Allright," is already in power rotation on many Smooth Jazz radio stations, and there are more hits ready to go on this collection. The funky "Livin' the Life," the perfectly smooth "Dinner and a Movie," and the seductive "End of the Night," featuring Chris Botti, are just three that stand out for me. Customer Reviews:
Outstanding Jeff Lorber Production!.......2005-06-01
The publicist of Grady Nichols sent me a copy of his new CD. The Oklahoma native is a rising star in the jazz world. He was discovered by legendary jazz artist Jeff Lorber and he has produced his third release, "Sophistication". Lorber takes his style of smooth jazz and brings Nichols to the level of respect. His CD has a bunch of well known artists to help him out in addition to Lorber such as Chris Botti & Bill Gable. As for Nichols, his sound is crisp, clear and bright. I especially enjoyed the tracks, "Tuesday Morning", "Speak" and "Quiet Times". This is one CD that will get lots of playing time on well established Smooth Jazz radio. It's a great CD that will get second looks and listens!
Churches, private functions, wine tasting parties............2004-08-11
seems like Nichols has played his sax in front of every last person in Tulsa,OK and Sophistication should extend his reach. The CD has actually been offered for sale on his website for sometime now. Brought under the wing of veteran keyboardist Jeff Lorber and producer Paul Brown, you are certain of quality performances and audio. As mentioned above, Chris Botti and A.Ray Fuller join Grady on this effort which opens with the two very strong tracks Tuesday Afternoon and the very urban Livin' the Life. Other highlights include the single All Right, End of the Night with Botti, and the best track on the CD, Alone With You which exhibits Grady's superb alto voice. Sophistication is as good or better than 2004 releases of Euge Groove, Kim Waters and Marion Meadows. This is definitely a spiritual, soulful, talented artist on the verge of a deserved breakthrough....
Don't wait go buy it !!!!!.......2004-06-26
This is the 1st CD I have on this artist and I was not disappointed. This is a great CD. Smooth and laid back at the same time. I can't stop listening to it.
Just Buy It.......2004-05-27
After seeing Grady at the Newport Beach Jazz Festival, I went right out and bought this CD. I has been in hte CD player in my truck all week. Grady delivers a funky yet smooth sound much like David Sanborn. If he continues to team with major talent like Jeff Lorber for his productions, this man will really go places. Everyone who has ridden with me this week has purchased this CD.
At long last.......2004-04-28
Five stars just aren't enough to describe the quality of this CD.
After producing 3 mediocre CDs - very poor recording quality and average songs - this, his fourth CD finally delivers the goods. Even though I didn't highly rate his first 3 CDs I decided to go ahead and buy this one, simply because there is a unique quality about the man's playing - he's right up there with Sanborn and Koz, but just lacked the material to match his undoubted talent. With this new CD he has teamed up with his and my hero Jeff Lorber, who not only co-writes but produces and engineers everything. Gradys true potential has finally been realised..great songs, brilliant production and engineering. Difficult to pick out a top track as they are all so good but would recommend Tuesday Morning and Within the Blue as standout tunes. Make this man a major star and buy this CD.

Dark Red.......2001-03-13
Louise Taylor has one of the most expressive voices recording today in acoustic music. At times her alto is reminiscent of Emmylou Harris. "Written In Red" is most often dark in tone, but with a struggle toward the lighter side, one illuminated by love. Using the George Washington story as a departure point, in the first track "Cherry Tree" Louise sings that she cannot tell a lie. For the rest of the CD, she delivers what is at times a painfully honest portrait of a woman struggling with the darker side of her nature. "Over the Mountain" is a deceptively beautiful tune about "where the angels play" and encourages us that it's "time to learn to pray," but these positive sentiments are undercut by a sinister electric guitar that wails with a plaintive roar. This is a brilliant track with a creative tension between lyric, melody & arrangement. "Meet You here" musically downsizes to just acoustic guitar & Louise's world-weary voice, "Living's lived up to my worst fears." The directness creates a musical honesty that is breathtaking. With "Two Bends in the Road" we finally get a needed break with happy guitar lines as Louise sings, "I never needed anybody so." "His Hands" is lyrically inventive, recounting the attraction to a man because of the beauty of his hands. "Miriam Bell" is a driving folk ballad about a poor girl used & discarded by a rich man, not a happy love song. "Gunny Hole" has some very tasty electric guitar in a song about a whaling town. Taylor gives about as boozy bluesy smokey barroom vocal in the title track as you're likely to hear. Singing about what a little morphine can do, the imagery that the closing sign is "written in red" makes one almost taste the blood on the tracks. "My Dove" is a pretty folk tune with what sounds like a flute playing a Gregorian chant. "Stubborn as a Gun" is one of the best melodies on the CD. Taylor sings, "Somebody ought to point me in a new direction" because this road is the "way to the blue connection." "While My Love Is Away" closes with a bright piano, a pretty melody, and Louise's alto, about as beautiful and expressive as you're likely to hear. As a writer, Taylor's lyrics are stronger than her melodies; but as a singer & arranger, all combine for an impressive, honest musical achievement. This CD is on the dark side, one of the best of 2000. Don't miss out!
"Written In Red" - Louise Taylor.......2000-08-12
Imagine a child having Bonnie Raitt and Greg Brown as parents. That child might be Louise Taylor. Her latest cd,"Written in Red", is her very best work yet. Her lyrics are dark , intriging, at times disturbing. Her voice has that smokey, chocolate sound that never gets tiring. Her guitar is perfectly matched to the tone and color of each piece. This entire cd is well written, beautifully performed, and well produced. It contains some of the best new music I've heard in a long time.
A New World of Nuance.......2000-08-10
Louise Taylor is a complete original -a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and street poet who sings of souls tarnished by life's rough edges. The CD combines a buoyant mix of acoustic street blues with touches of folk and celtic soul that draws you in with such powerful energy you can't get the people she is singing about out of your head.
Possibly one of the most freshly original releases of the year - a real find for those who love their music original fresh and natural.
Stunning & Soulful.......2000-06-12
Louise Taylor is simply one of the best kept secrets in acoustic music. Her music is blues influenced, but also includes touches of celtic, jazz and even country. She has a unique, rythmic style of guitar-playing and one of the most distinctive, souful voices around.
"Written In Red" is her best album yet. It begins with "Cherry Tree" a stunning acoustic blues duet with Canadian bluesman Ray Bonneville. Other highlights include the Bonnie Raitt-like "Two Bends In The Road" and the celtc fired murder story "Miriam Belle". This is one of the year's best songwriter albums.
I'd also recommend Louise' 1997 album, RIDE.

Now and again a songwriter appears, as if out of nowhere, and reminds you just how far and deep a good song can go. Tanya Savory is that kind of songwriter. In truth, she hasn't really been a secret. Town to Town, her 1998 independently released debut (subsequently picked up for wider distribution by Rounder), is the work of a mature artist in full command of timeless folk melodies, images worthy of classic country song craft, and knowingly detailed narratives that suggest the fiction of Bobbie Anne Mason and Eudora Welty. That may sound like overstatement, but Savory's visions--of small-town struggles, intricate relationships, and the beautiful and fearful power of nature--are rendered with a wise, observant eye and sung with an unaffected, clear voice. The sweet acoustic settings, provided by accomplished bluegrass and country musicians such as Wanda Vick and Nancy Given Gardner, are set tastefully around (but never over) Savory's stories. These songs will raise your hopes, test your heart, and lead you through landscapes you won't soon forget. --Roy Kasten
Customer Reviews:
2 Blocks from My Back Door.......2005-02-28
Tanya Savory's "Town to Town" is an excellent folk set that is one that still reads well 6 years after its initial release. "40, 80, or 10" is probably my favorite track with Wanda Vick's fiddle punctuating this uptempo track about a love of travelling & America's highways, "Now just 2 blocks from my back door I can hear the whisper of 24 & even when I'm sleepin' it comes creepin' like a dream." The opener, "When the River Rose," is also another lovely little folk gem with Tanya's homey guitar strum and confident vocals, "5 miles of sand & a floodwall from the 50s, 7 engineers stepping on each other's toes ... it sure didn't count for much when the river rose." "Different Shores" is also a lovely melody with John Mock's tin whistle giving an ethereal setting along with Nancy Given Gardner's beautiful harmony. "Reuben Brown" is also an excellent ballad about a farmer grown old. "Town to Town" is an excellent folk set, one to seek! Enjoy!
What Folk is About!.......2001-01-23
I wish she had more CD's. I like every song on the CD, which is extremely rare for any CD. This definitely folk at its best.
This is what songwriting is all about!.......1999-10-26
This is a very refreshing breath of songwriting fresh air. The stories are compelling without relying on radioable hooks and the arrangements are spare, crisp and lovely. A beautiful blending of country, folk and bluegrass (just enough banjo and mandolin to tweak your fancy) sung in a nice clear voice. Buy it, you won't regret it.
A brand new sound ..with a familiar feeling!.......1999-07-02
One of my favorite CDs so far this year...thank God there is music like this out there that is a combination of several styles...country/folk/bluegrass/pop..Without being schlocky country or whiny tie- dye mentality folk or male dominated bluegrass! For anyone who likes Mary Chapin Carpenter or Iris Dement, this is a CD for you. Intelligent but accessible lyrics, wonderful melody and voice, and top notch production!

Release Date: 2002-12-03 |
Album Description
Scott Fisher's national star begun rising with official Olympic showcases played for the French Embassy in Salt Lake City. American-born but also fluent in French, Fisher is primarily a contemporary American pop performer.
Fisher's 14-song debut, "Fleeing Towards Creation," was recorded over a two year period and is unified by Fisher's masterful compositions, stirring lyrics and deft production. Fisher takes a love for old school `70s funk/soul/groove (Shuggie Otis, Herbie Hancock, Curtis Mayfield) and marries it to contemporary pop (Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Norah Jones). Add impressive songwriter chops (with nods to John Lennon, David Grey and early Elton John), deep delectable vocals, masterful piano, electronica-inspired production, and seasoned musicians that include bassist Matt Voth (James low, Flatirons), drummer Josh Yafa (Jack Johnson) and guitarist Bob Dunham (Belizbaha). The result is a sound that's ready for the airwaves and a live presentation that rivets listeners.
"Nothing," the album's kick off track and "Fleeing Towards Creation," the title track, reveal Fisher's kinship with brit-pop balladeers, while "Promises" and "Struggle" strut old school jazz-fusion in support of Fisher's evocative vocals.

Album Description
What does Open Sky sound like? Here's a description:
"Open Sky, the much anticipated follow-up to Jeanette Alexander's internationally acclaimed debut CD Still Point, is a treasury of gentle, memorable melodies, lush with strings arranged by producer and violinist, Jeffey Sick, and graced by special guests oboist Nancy Rumbel and guitarist Eric Tingstad.
Destined to be a hidden flower in a desert of synthesizer music, the all-acoustic sound of Open Sky will delight your senses, inspire your heart, and soothe your spirit."
Touching melodies and unbridled creativity await listeners on the gorgeous sophomore album from Jeanette Alexander titled OPEN SKY. Alexander's vivid compositions are equal parts classical sophistication and romantic abandon - beautiful flights of fancy that set the spirit free. "Common Ground," one of the album's most powerful works, is like an ode to lost love and bittersweet youthful memories. The interplay between Alexander's poignant piano melodies and the warm instrumentation of Jeffery Sick (violin) as well as guest artists Eric Tingstad (guitar) and Nancy Rumbel (oboe) adds to the piece's emotional impact. Others like "Because of You" and "Out of the Blue" make one feel as if time no longer exists, just a realm of endless peace and rejuvenation.

Touches the Soul.......2003-05-28
I just heard Jeanette in concert and immediately bought both of her CD's. My Father recently passed away and this music has been a healing ointment to my hurting heart. I've just listened to the entire CD 5 times and am not at all tired of it. I only changed CD's in the player because I was eager to hear her other music. Her music has incredible depth of emotion and beauty.
