Pittsburgh-born pianist and bandleader Ahmad Jamal is one of the most influential artists of the modern era. His brilliant arrangements and unique synthesis of Art Tatum's incredible technique and Errol Garner's improvisational genius are in full effect on this engaging concert, recorded at the famed Olympia Theatre in Paris. Jamal is joined by long-time band mates, drummer Idris Muhammmad and bassist James Cammack, and a special guest, saxophonist George Coleman.         In 2001, Dreyfus Jazz issued the Olympia 2000 album on which Jamal joined forces with saxophonist George Coleman. The album, recorded in celebration of Ahmad's 70th birthday, was well received by critics and quickly became a popular favorite with fans. It is paired, for this new set, with the wonderfully unique Live in Paris 1992 album, featuring a different repertoire and sound (with his long time cohort James Cammack on bass guitar rather than upright).

        Ray Charles 70'th Birthday was Spent in Paris at the City's Famed Olympia Theatre. It was Charles' First Concert of the New Millennium and the First Time in 40 Years that the Master Had Taken this Particular Stage. But all was Not Right; Thanks to an Air Traffic Controllers Strike in Lisbon, his Orchestra and the Raylettes were Stranded in London. Sticking to the Addage that "The Show Must Go On", Charles Performed "Unplugged" with Just his Piano and Two Other Musicians, Making this Quite a Unique Event. He was in a Really Good Mood, in Full Command, Feeling Happy, Stressless and Genuinely Pleased to Play in this Beautiful Place. You'll Hear it and Feel it with Every Note. Just Enjoy and Remember…and as Charles Used to Say "Good is Good, Man !"

        Glide your mouse to the add to shopping cart icon asap! This cd is worth it just for the live version of What'd I say! It starts out with Ray fumbling around on the keyboard as if he is making mistakes when in reality we all know he never made a mistake because he is the high priest of soul and a musical genius. Whoops, I got carried away! After his entertaining run up to the song he flows into the begining of What'd I say and the crowd goes nuts. It gives me goosebumps everytime I here it. It is amazing to hear the 70 year old Charles belt out this song with so much energy. The reason I give the album 4 stars is because he skips alot of the lyrics while singing the songs. I don't know if its due to his age or just because he felt like doin it that way. Buy the album its Ray Charles for cryin out loud, besides what else is out there nowadays except a bunch of crap music!

        This live album is from the year 2000 and that's the reason I bought it...I didn't want a live Ray Charles album from the 50's or 60's...but sometime in his older and maturer days. And that's what you get here.

        The best part about this cd is it's simplicity and straightforwardness. It's Ray Charles and vocals and piano, a drummer, bass player and guitar player. They are the Ray Charles Trio. What you get is a complete, smooth, fresh and wonderfully drippingly jazzified 70 minutes of music.

        Charles' voice is beautifully rough and older which adds a new dimension to the songs and his keyboard work is amazing...wonderful solos that wail through your speakers.

        My only complaint was that the concert was longer...and had more hits like "Night Time Is the Right Time" and "Hit The Road Jack" (i don't know if he played that song as frequent in his older days). Still, this CD is beautiful. I didn't pay $30 but paid $12 through a private seller here on Amazon. I dunno if I'd pay $30 for it...but it's a great cd.

          Over the Course of Three Months at the 'olympia' Theater in Paris Johnny Hallyday Entertained 100.000 Spectators with Concerts on a More Intimate and Personal Level Than Some of his Recent Mega Shows. It Seems Johnny Needed to Remind his Core Fans that He Has Not Changed and Really Cares for Them, the Crowd was Able to Stand Up Close to Him and in Some Cases Even Get Invited on Stage. These Shows have Gained Rave Reviews in the French Media and the Resulting Double CD is a Gem.
