Pittsburgh-born pianist and bandleader Ahmad Jamal is one of the most influential artists of the modern era. His brilliant arrangements and unique synthesis of Art Tatum's incredible technique and Errol Garner's improvisational genius are in full effect on this engaging concert, recorded at the famed Olympia Theatre in Paris. Jamal is joined by long-time band mates, drummer Idris Muhammmad and bassist James Cammack, and a special guest, saxophonist George Coleman. With his trademark dynamics, Jamal reinvents standards such as "Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and "Autumn Leaves," with vigorous straight-ahead swing sprinkled with zesty Latin tinges. Coleman's muscular, Coltrane-like tenor tones, Muhammad's inventive Crescent City rhythms, and Cammack's rock-steady bass lines beautifully complement Jamal's orchestral soundscapes. Johnny Pate's "Appreciation" and Jamal's "Aftermath" are rendered with melodic sophistication in inventive trio settings. This live date shows that Ahmad Jamal is still full of musical genius and surprises. --Eugene Holley Jr.

Album Description
In 2001, Dreyfus Jazz issued the Olympia 2000 album on which Jamal joined forces with saxophonist George Coleman. The album, recorded in celebration of Ahmad's 70th birthday, was well received by critics and quickly became a popular favorite with fans. It is paired, for this new set, with the wonderfully unique Live in Paris 1992 album, featuring a different repertoire and sound (with his long time cohort James Cammack on bass guitar rather than upright).

Moustaki's First Live Album was in 1970, He Recalls Being a Beginner and Blaming the Imperfections He Heard at the Time on his Youth and Desire to Succeed. 30 Years Later the Magic Bond Between the Singer and his Fans Allows Him this Time to Forgivehimself for What He Sees as Imperfections. This Live Show Demonstrates that He is in Harmony with his Audience and Lets Him Demonstrate his Singing Talents Without Concern for Minor Technical Errors that He is Probably the Only One to Notice.
