Master of his leauge.......2005-12-02
Al DiMeola is definitely the one of the best guitar players of all time and there is no question about it. Unfortunately a lot of Americans won't even know him even though he has followers watching him here in US and buying his CDs, I believe he is much more known abroad. Al never stayed cliche with his music he explored and took chances by following his heart. This is also one of his great albums it was nice to hear his electric fusion guitar again. Comparing Al to Santana is very rediculus, Santana just an another commercial guitar player, Al is different he is a virtuoso a grand master guitar artist, and that's that. Great album educated music for people who understands high quality music.
Yin and Yang.......2005-11-09
I am sure this album will raise brows in both camps of fans. It requires some thinking outside the box. For some of us, this box is narrow. I remember vividly one guy who claimed "Another brick in the wall" was a good disco dance. He was into Beethoven, mostly, and the rest of music was a big blob of goo without much shape. So, if "The rite of strings" is your Bible, you might be reluctant to make steps toward "Hey hop la la lei". And it's a terrible shame if you won't. Personally, I loved the album. Al's solo in "If I'll get a chance" stands high in my world, just for the penetrating soul of it, something so free and emotional that it hurts... like only true inspiration can. I've been missing that in Al's works lately. I admit he is not necessarily comfortable with the role of brasuca (have you seen the German video of their live appearance?), because Al is a brilliant surgeon general, *not* Santana. However, his reserved demeanor was the right recipe for me, I liked his intelligent precision in the middle of fiesta... Yin and Yang, temple and bazaar, the architectural beauty and a secret Russian soul. There is so much life in this combination. Cosmopolitan life, that is, where calls for purity of gender are not welcome, and badmouthing by the hardcore fan[atic]s is only regretful and pitiful. Walk away if you can't accept the form; just like Glazunov walked out of his student's performance... and missed the rising star of Sergei Prokofiev. Here's Leonid now, and he is darn good.
weaker than karaokee.......2005-11-02
I was misslead from Al Di Meola name on the cover and bought the cd
from Viena airport in a hurry. When I played it at home I got ashamed from my choice. It sounds so week like Modern talking or
like karaokee on a beach with Michael Bolton songs.Just
listen the Next Generation of Gary Burton and you can feel the real
music world.I am sorry but AL should have put his name onlyin the cd book next to all guests of the project, because now he is making
favor to Leonid on the back of trustfull fans.
Open Your Ears!!!.......2005-09-09
First of all, it is evident that this album is Agutin's with Di Meola as a guest. HELLO!! Di Meola did not write any of the compositions, so where do you get off saying that he is going backwards??? In playing??? Try taking a listen to his last albums "Flesh on Flesh" or "The Grande Passion" and the intricacy in his playing and compositions. He's done nothing but grown as an artist and has reached levels that obviously surpass, "your boy", Santana. As for this album, I wouldn't call it pop by today's standards. It's more of an Adult Contemporary. And it's definitely far from the Santana thing. IT'S BETTER!! Di Meola's solos throughout the songs give it so much life and seasoning. Very cool album!
Al Di Santana.......2005-08-22
When i saw the album release on his website i thought it was a jazz album with another jazz musician "Leonid Agutin" but i was way wrong, when i first listened i was very disapointed.
First of all, Al Di Meola is not a pop guy, i think he is 100 times better when he picks the ovation and plays acoustic, i dont like his electric sound either, but mainly he plays jazz not pop (for those of you who are not familiar with his music), so when i first listened to this i thought it was another Santana feat thing.
Also there are some songs that sounds like Meola (only the guitar), like "Tango" but incorporate pop rythms, so i dont think the whole album sounds like Santana per se, but that was my first impresion, and it was not a good impresion cause i always liked his playin, and admired his technique and sound.
The licks are not part of what Meola's has shown over the years, if you really know his work with the guitar trios and other great albums he has like World Sinfonia I, and Elegant Gypsy you will notice that he sounds more like Santana. If you want to listen to the real Al Di Meola, i would recomend those two albums, and the 4 trio albums, 3 with paco de lucia and john maclaughin and 1 with larry coryel and bireli lagrene, all of them are great (if you like jazz-fusion).
As far as talkin about Leonid Agutin i have to stay shut, cause i dont really knew this guy, and the first time i listened to him was in this album, but i personally dont think he sounds like Sting. I read in a website that he was "one of the best jazz musicians in his country" but who knows, if i run a website i can say that im the best musician in the world.
I didnt expect a guy like meola that has play with all those GREAT guitar players, and has develop a technique around jazz and improvisation to come out with an album like this at this moment, maybe 15 or 20 years before i would say "the man gotta eat" but now is like walkin backwards.

Nice surprise. Al got on MTV Russia!.......2005-07-22
While travelling in Russia recently, I saw Al DiMeola playing on the local version of MTV! This was a most welcome surprise, and the music with Russian singer (in English) Leonid Agutin was a pleasing mix of DiMeola fusion, Sting-like world-pop, and some other rock & R&B influences. I had to get it immediately. Fusion fans will enjoy the CD due to Al's great guitar being all over every track. However, pop fans can also get into the melodies which are strong. It's produced very well, too. Agutin's English lyrics occasionally lack the sophistication that one might expect from a native speaker, but they are fine overall. I'm happy to see Al DiMeola finding time for these types of projects in between his heavier fusion outings. It's nice to hear his brilliant guitar in other contexts.

Album Description
Japanese pressing includes music by Al Di Meola, and vocals by Leonid Agutin & Alex Sino. The first was chosen world best guitar-player, the second is the most successful musician in Russia. For their album Cosmopolitan Life, they created together a unique sound. Each song has a different flair: a little bit of Santana, some remind me of Gloria Estefan, some of Sting. This edition includes a CD extra. 10 tracks. Victor. 2005.
